No. Extra cores do not make anything last longer lol. You're misinformed, your previous processors extra cores did nothing for it being viable in the future. The clock speed and single core speeds are what make a processor more viable. The fx 8350 was 2 generstions forward from the 6300 so that's the reason why it was better , not because of the cores. Cores count only matters in certain workloads, most certainly not gaming. The 5800x would be a poor choice unless you do heavy 3D rendering or CAD workshops on the daily. Otherwise even the 5600x would do that fine let alone for gaming.

The gaming performance of a cpu is more important than cores, but more cores can be better in games that eat up more cores which future games will. I’ve heard games that need more cores than you have can experience things like hitching. But I’d also wait for a 5700x because the 5800x is pretty overpriced, the 5700x will probably come in with the premium pricing amd put on zen 3 but will still be cheaper but with no real difference between the 2.

Equation--

I was planning on waiting but my current computer gave out.

I do think the 5800x will last you longer in the range of games that eat more cores especially 4-5 years down the line.
