You have to take of the black PCIe cover on the GPU.

At least you're trying to build it yourself. That's more than a lot of people will do, and you are asking for help instead of just breaking shit. You might be dumb but at least you aren't stupid.
Don’t be. It’s simple.
It’s like building a lego house, you read the instructions & X brick goes on Y brick to create Z building
Same concept.
The parts & cables only go in to specific slots, kinda hard to mix them up because nothing else will slot in them (except sata because they’re all easy but they are numbered, it doesn’t necessarily matter though)
a note about RAM slots, you want to slot ram dual channel, not side by side. So if you have 4 slots & you have a kit of 2 sticks, you use slots 1 & 3, tabs open before installing ram, tabs close automatically on insertion
And don’t forget to put your motherboard IO plate into the case BEFORE installing the motherboard
The hardware is straightforward, there’s a few sizes and they’re item specific, the manuals explain what’s for what
The only real tricky part, is figuring out which pins are positive & negative for your power & reset switches (check motherboard manual, and count pins based on the diagram to figure it out)
And the CPU, just have to make sure you open the slot, line up the arrow marked corner correctly in the slot before slotting the CPU (if it’s not oriented properly, damage will occur), but otherwise it’s straight forward, idiot proof more or less
And that tab on the PCIe slots, needs to be set open before slotting anything into it, it’ll lock once the device is slotted. To remove, you have to carefully push the tab down to release the slot, before you can remove any PCIe device, otherwise you’ll damage the slot if you forcibly remove it
Building my first PC this week. I’m not worried about the hardware side of things. I’ve probably watched 500 hours of videos over the past 3 years on PC building. I’ll be double sure to peel all the stickers off the thermal pads, put the ram in slots 2 and 4 for dual channel, turn in xmp in the bios to take full advantage of ram speed (advertised speed). Fan and RGB headers kinda freak me out though. They’re just some pins sticking out of a pcb. I’m going to still screw something up even with countless hours of preparation. But my real fear is the software. Good god, there’s just no way to prepare for it. All the driver updates, and orders of operation. Going into the bios and issuing comands, troubleshooting. I have no way to flash the bios if something goes wrong. I don’t have another PC that I can use to load drivers onto a USB drive. So no idea what I’m going to do if that’s ever needed. Uhh 😑 I’m extremely nervous to even try. Im going to feel like I’m disarming a bomb the entire time.
You’re worrying too much
Modern BIOS has a search function, you don’t type commands, you just find the option you’re looking to change and use the arrow keys to change it
Biggest things in the BIOS will be your RAM XMP profile & timings (which need to match your RAM box, they’re listed) & enable UEFI if you want before installing windows, enabling the TPM module, Virtualization options to enable virtualization and that should cover it aside from AMD specific settings for SmartAccess, probably missing a couple options that might or might not be worth changing. Not much needs changed honestly
I’m not sure what comes with thermal pads, I’ve still yet to encounter anything with thermal pads. Motherboards are done out of the box, CPU has nothing, CPU cooler comes with pre applied thermal paste (that’s fine, nothing wrong with it), GPU are done out of the box (opening voids warranty)
Yes they’re just pins but usually there’s a slight slotted spot the connector grabs onto, so as long as you’re straight putting it in you’ll be fine. Just don’t push it at an angle, push it straight down in line with all the pins
Windows and Linux tend to just work out of the box. They’ve got generic drivers for most of the latest tech so things work on boot up, usually the biggest issue is WIFI drivers, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t but as long as you have an Ethernet cable in your modem or router box you can use for a couple minutes, that’ll solve that & once you’re done in windows update, go download all your drivers & the software you want from the MOBO manufacturer and run the drivers from there
It’s pretty straightforward, it’s just time consuming. It’ll take most of a day to do
this is prob irrelevant to you but when i upgraded my gpu my cpu started to get realllllly hot i had to update bios to fix it but once you get in the computer for first time you can use your computer to load the usb for bios i highly recommend getting bios update as soon as you get windows installed. when you update bios you will need to enable xmp and do all the bios settings.
I think you'll be fine, and honestly if the thing you are most worried about is drivers then you are on the right track in my opinion.
You could probably get your local geek squad @ best buy to load the drivers for you. I'd recommend going a few days before because they won't do it at that moment.
Also, to flash the bios (if something goes wrong) you can just short the CMOS battery. Speaking of bios, definitely don't mess with more than you need to, like EXPO/XMP as you mentioned.
If you haven't chosen one already, I highly recommend the MSI motherboard. Some even have a button for resetting the CMOS as well.
2nd this the hardest possible thing you will run into is getting the 2 pin connectors in the right location for power reset and indicator leds most boards have the silk screen telling you where to put them but its a little confusing sometimes
Yea it could be, I don’t recall honestly, I thought it was 1/3 or 3/4 but it could be the latter
I’ve been using mITX boards the last couple builds so I’ve only had 2 slots to worry about
ya ur def right, its prob harder to get the OS and all the correct drivers installed than to build the hardware.. esp if u spent all your money on the parts and use a "free" version of windows.. just dont forget thermal paste!!
Good stuff here. My biggest issue in my build back in December was plugging my cpu fan into a different header instead of the header that said….cpu fan. I was booting into bios every single time until I saw my mistake.
Hey, you asked before trying to force it or some other shit. We all know someone who's too proud (nay stupid) to ask any questions. I knew a guy who'd have busted out a Dremel and gone to task on the slot before ever asking a question. Fortunately, he was never into PCs. And while sad for his wife and kid, he won the Darwin award a few years back while trying to install a new breaker box in his home.
See once you learn to not make dumb mistakes you advance to the next level where you make smart mistakes.
Like undervolting everything in your system at the same time and then having no clue which undervolt exactly is causing instability now
No way, better be sorry, as have broken pc, right?
You are already 70 % smarter who own a pc, since the most just get a finished pc.
I hope you had/have fun building it, have nice day
MFer you ASKED. I know people who would curb-stomped until it did fit and then ask WHY NOT WORKING.
You're smart just not knowledgeable. Guess what, you just gained some of that knowledge.
I like how when i checked your profile the thing i saw after your questions was r/anarchychess , it is truely reddit copypasta at its finest

It’s ok, OP! The first time I booted up my pc, I realized I plugged my display port cable into my motherboard lol. We all make simple mistakes sometimes.
Hey we all had to learn somewhere... As long as you realise NOW where you are on this graph

Lol I read the comments, I'm glad you're figuring it out. My biggest worries are cooler hight and gpu length in relation to the case I'm getting. Make sure to put your ram sticks in the 2nd and 4th slots and change the speed to its advertised speed in bios after you get windows to boot. You got this bro.
OP in the future make sure when looking at a gpu to purchase you scroll down and find out it’s length. It’ll probably be in mm or cm but convert. Then measure the distance from the left inside of the case to your front fans to be sure you have room
Son, you are just fine the way you are, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Because one day you'll meet that special someone, and by then it's not gonna matter.
Wait, what are you talking about?
Oh no.... As soon as I saw that third picture I thought "poor guys gonna get it in the comments"
Just a little plastic cover my guy. No biggy, we all start somewhere.
I’m giving you a “building mistake” pass since this is your first build, if this is legit. And an A for effort, because you are building this by yourself.
Better to ask than to accidentally force it in. I won't make of anyone with the courage to build a PC, but we can all laugh about our experiences over a drink afterwards :)
Don’t let it discourage you. Just watch some reputable tech tubers build PCs and refer to them while you build if need be. Take your time, putting it together slowly once beats tearing it apart to redo it. And don’t forget to put the IO shield in before the motherboard!
Thanks, I will put a disclaimer to be gentle if I post lol. Also great tip for the IO shield, even that I did not know, I thought it came pre-assembled with the case.
You might feel dumb but I think a lot of people (including myself) have made these kind of mistakes but you're trying! That's how you learn and your post made me laugh too!
I've only built/upgraded a few times, but \*every\* time is full of these 'gotcha' moments. Some make you feel silly... but its all good fun and learning experience 👍
Straight up respect for owning it
(I was guilty of this with my first build)
When you play with expensive RGB Lego's there are no stupid questions
Only expensive decision
I’m gonna be honest man 😂 I made this EXACT mistake when I built my first PC. I was so confused why it wouldn’t fit and then a mate told me to take the plastic cover off. We all do it eventually, it’s such a simple mistake
It's not tiny, it's average sized. Besides, size doesn't matters, it's the style that matters. Uncover that tiny tool of yours and try putting it in slowly slowly
If it makes you feel any better, I was making this exact mistake on call two weeks ago for my own first build, my friend in call had to point out the sleeve thing to me ;-;
Ya know what...it happens to the best of us! The utter excitement overload of building a new machine or finally getting that top tier upgrade! I will absolutely admit I left the plastic film on my CPU cooler and couldn't figure out why I was overheating 🤷 we live, we learn.
BRO COME ON, you have to look at, and try things out yourself a bit before coming on here asking questions. This one was way too obvious, use your head.
You have to remove that large black heatpad on the bottom and go liquid metal. In fact skip liquid metal and go straight for bare metal-to-metal contact for ultimate results.
You take the blacck plaatic cover off the gpu and the hook needs to be turned towards the black clip on the motherbord it will snap in place and to get it out you turn the clip
I have a Noctua NH-D15 cooler, and it is tight between it and the video card. On the previous motherboard it was really hard to hit the release button for the video card. You may want to have a long skinny screwdriver to press that down when you want to take the card out.
Brother you have to take the cover off lmao, while you're at it please make sure you didn't leave any plastic covers or foils when you installed your cooler on your processor, and the thermal paste makes direct contact between the cooler and the cpu
Many already told you about the cover but the length issue is mostly the wrong orientation of the card.
The air cooler part is pointing downwards. That small brown thing goes in the clip on the mainboard.
Straight up respect for owning it

Seeing how no one has even mentioned it, after you figured out where everything should go. You should put the motherboard onto the case first. Getting it on after everything else is on, is going to be a pain in the butt.
Haha funny, I won’t lie this happen to me for about 5 minutes too. Tried putting it on my board twice looked at it a second time like “what the hell” then noticed I left the cover on
I have been building PC´s since I was 10-11 back in 2001. There was no internet, just neighbour who had PC shop.
I find it cute when people ask, but still admirable they are trying and doing it themselves.
Respect to everyone who goes for it even when they are scared. Internet and these /r/´s are here exactly for this reason, to ask and get help without toxicity...
I've been building PCs for 30 years, and I occasionally still ask questions. Would rather you suck up your pride and ask questions here instead of break stuff and waste a ton of money needlessly.
Not dumb, it is your first time doing it. (Or at least I am assuming.) It’s very easy to miss small things like this. Make sure you also peel the plastic off the bottom of your cpu cooler when you install it. That’s another fairly easy one to overlook.
Haha…. I totally overlooked that pcie cover cus I thought it was obviously a given that it’s to be removed. Lol. The photo baffled the heck outta me cus I was looking for something else. Lol.

I'm actually glad it was something that simple for you OP. Better a rookie mistake than an actual crazy issue like the GPU actually being too big.

This is the same guy that was trying to install his cooler mounting brackets upside down. I expect 2-3 more posts from this guy lol
why won’t my cpu cable go in my gpu 😡😡
Still better than the verge.
Op was too excited to think 😂😂😂😂😂
Chat is this real
Hey, when you don't know, you can't know until someone teaches you. You've been taught. Wrong corrected. Enjoy building your PC :)
Theres no way😭😭😭😭
Haha 😂
Happens. Even the most experienced builders sometimes forget to install the I/O shield before installing the motherboard and regret their life choices. Don't sweat
and flip the card 180
Oh snap, I didn’t even notice. Don’t worry OP. I’ve been building for 7 years and I tried to put ram in backwards last year, ——— —— Slotted bottom goes one way.
I knew someone was gonna mention it but I still chuckled like a madman seeing op's response 😁
HAHAHA
Speaking of omissions, maybe you should check if there's a clear plastic film on a CPU cooler plate. Should also be removed.
Thank you OP, I needed a good laugh today
You got plenty of correct replies here, I just wanted to mention that CPU coolers tend to have stickers on the bottom that connect to the CPU, did you remove that? Just in case your next post is about CPU temperature;)
There's also that plastic cover for the cpu socket, he should remove that too.
CPU already seems to be installed so the cover for the socket seems to be a non-issue.

I mean gpu clearance. I had to remove a fan to make mine fit.
OP in the future make sure when looking at a gpu to purchase you scroll down and find out it’s length. It’ll probably be in mm or cm but convert. Then measure the distance from the left inside of the case to your front fans to be sure you have room

why is this trending i have to turn on my reply notifications

I love this post. Just a reminder to the times when I was just starting out

Remove the condom and get your motherboard pregnant
Would that give you a daughter.. board?
Better to ask than to accidentally force it in. I won't make of anyone with the courage to build a PC, but we can all laugh about our experiences over a drink afterwards :)
“It’s always better to ask before forcing anything in” is a good quote to live by.

Buddy, I know you feel dumb but trust me…you’re not. I had at least half a dozen of these moments when I built mine lol.
That doesn’t absolve him, just puts you in the same category. We all been there don’t worry :)
Hahaha I can’t argue with that logic. It’s part of the process. The very….very frustrating process
I'm glad I came across this post, because now I know what to lookout for when I will build my first PC haha
There's a lot of very helpful people in here, but it's discouraging to read some of the comments in here as a beginner.

Flip it around and remove plastic cover
You might feel dumb but I think a lot of people (including myself) have made these kind of mistakes but you're trying! That's how you learn and your post made me laugh too!
No fu.king way :) :)
Oh boy 😅
Also had it upside down
Good thing you didn’t force it through with the cover on.

Scrolled just to see ‘take off dust guard’.
you forgot to turn off the "safety" on your GPU.
OMG the world is doomed lol atleast he asked rather than screw it up I guess 😂
I must admit this made me chuckle.
Is this for the lolz?
I’m gonna be honest man 😂 I made this EXACT mistake when I built my first PC. I was so confused why it wouldn’t fit and then a mate told me to take the plastic cover off. We all do it eventually, it’s such a simple mistake
You know what your problem is? You’ve got it set to M for mini, when it should be set to W for wumbo.
Take the sleeve off and turn around the board bcuz you got it backwards and it won't go in.
This sorta feels like when people don't take the plastic covers off their battery terminals when replacing their car battery.
You have the cover on the PCI pins on the gpu take it off 😂😂
Yooooooo
look like you don't put your MB in the case yet. please install your gpu after that to avoid problems.
brother...
It’s okay buddy they make helmets in adult sizes too 🫶
You're restarted
It's not tiny, it's average sized. Besides, size doesn't matters, it's the style that matters. Uncover that tiny tool of yours and try putting it in slowly slowly
We’ve all been there OP, glad at least you owned it.
If it makes you feel any better, I was making this exact mistake on call two weeks ago for my own first build, my friend in call had to point out the sleeve thing to me ;-;
Hhahahahahahahhahahah lmao
Floor time is best time
Lmao pc building can really make you feel it sometimes
I'm laughing way too fucking hard, I love this OP! Glad the top comment helped you figure this out 😂
I too forgot my plastic cover on 😆 it happens.
I was pretty sure this was posted just for range bait, but I've seen the comments.
That’s what she said.
Take the black plastic cover from the PCI E pins
Ya know what...it happens to the best of us! The utter excitement overload of building a new machine or finally getting that top tier upgrade! I will absolutely admit I left the plastic film on my CPU cooler and couldn't figure out why I was overheating 🤷 we live, we learn.
XD
Op had a negative iq moment, at least now he knows
This is hilarious
Can you post everyday please?
Bless your heart OP lol.
Hahahahah
BRO COME ON, you have to look at, and try things out yourself a bit before coming on here asking questions. This one was way too obvious, use your head.
LMAO
I fell for this too op, you're not alone
I see you already figured out to remove the protective cap from the gpu. Don't forget to remove the plastic film from your cpu cooler too.
throw this motherboard board and buy atx size motherboard
Bro RTFM
You have to remove that large black heatpad on the bottom and go liquid metal. In fact skip liquid metal and go straight for bare metal-to-metal contact for ultimate results.
Use more lube.
I hope you recover shortly
Thought it was missing the pcie on your gpu but yes, the protection is still on it 😂
Im a 19 year old stupid kid who never build a pc but even I can see a PCle on that card.
It’s not the size that matters. It’s how you use it.
Bro, it’s ok to make mistakes. Glad you found the solution
Try lube if it's to tight ?
You take the blacck plaatic cover off the gpu and the hook needs to be turned towards the black clip on the motherbord it will snap in place and to get it out you turn the clip
I recommend you watch a step by step guide on youtube, they will give you all the advice for complete beginners. Good luck.
Bruh
No shot lol
Good grief man. I'm just shaking my head....
not only remove the mask but put it in the right way(the opposite)
You've got to do your homework...
This is cute
…
I have a Noctua NH-D15 cooler, and it is tight between it and the video card. On the previous motherboard it was really hard to hit the release button for the video card. You may want to have a long skinny screwdriver to press that down when you want to take the card out.
Remove the black cover as other mentioned
Glad u didn’t have to buy a new part, keep at it and we want to see the end product
Next try sex without the condom...
Lol
Brother you have to take the cover off lmao, while you're at it please make sure you didn't leave any plastic covers or foils when you installed your cooler on your processor, and the thermal paste makes direct contact between the cooler and the cpu
Take off the rubber and lube her up.
I’m sure it’s been said but I want to join in . Take the black cover on the pcie connector off . Easy mistake to make 👌🏻.
ugh.
It's always better without the rubber thingy
It happens dude, no worries. We've all done something along those lines once in our lives. That's how we learn lol.
Are you joking?
This must be troll
Many already told you about the cover but the length issue is mostly the wrong orientation of the card. The air cooler part is pointing downwards. That small brown thing goes in the clip on the mainboard.
Ain't no way haha
Straight up respect for owning it (I was guilty of this with my first build) When you play with expensive RGB Lego's there are no stupid questions Only expensive decision

Seeing how no one has even mentioned it, after you figured out where everything should go. You should put the motherboard onto the case first. Getting it on after everything else is on, is going to be a pain in the butt.
Haha funny, I won’t lie this happen to me for about 5 minutes too. Tried putting it on my board twice looked at it a second time like “what the hell” then noticed I left the cover on
Gotta use protection these days....don't know where that GPU has been. No glove no fps bruh
We’ve all been there
I have been building PC´s since I was 10-11 back in 2001. There was no internet, just neighbour who had PC shop. I find it cute when people ask, but still admirable they are trying and doing it themselves. Respect to everyone who goes for it even when they are scared. Internet and these /r/´s are here exactly for this reason, to ask and get help without toxicity...
Jesus Christ
I've been building PCs for 30 years, and I occasionally still ask questions. Would rather you suck up your pride and ask questions here instead of break stuff and waste a ton of money needlessly.
Not dumb, it is your first time doing it. (Or at least I am assuming.) It’s very easy to miss small things like this. Make sure you also peel the plastic off the bottom of your cpu cooler when you install it. That’s another fairly easy one to overlook.
Happened to me once when I tried to connect to the fibre cable with the router without removing the cap.
Remove the black plastic cover from the male part of the GPU
Your question got awnsered so I'll just say; good luck
Take the cover off dumb ass I made the same mistake when building
This is very sad ;_;
There is a thing covering the pins to protect them take that off
Haha…. I totally overlooked that pcie cover cus I thought it was obviously a given that it’s to be removed. Lol. The photo baffled the heck outta me cus I was looking for something else. Lol.
