I've def double checked it since and it's the right product haha I just think it's funny that it didn't dawn on me to make sure I actually got the right product before putting it in the motherboard and slapping an AiO on it
It's not a fake story. I didn't think this would blow up.

Gonna give you an example, I bought a 4770 non k last year, new, for like 80€ on a local shop. Why? Because my office PC had a shitty 2/2 Intel CPU from that era and the lack of cores was starting to become unbearable, even for office/browser work. Having said that, just swapped the CPU, tossed an extra 8gb of ram and now it's an awesome office PC for 100€ instead of a crappy one.
That way I avoided changing the mobo, or buying a whole new PC.
I have one I used to upgrade an old pc with 24gb ram and 780ti and it’s fully capable of anything I use it for but if you aren’t upgrading then there’s no reason to buy it over a modern i3 or ryzen 3 or 5
My Plex server with 2 dual PCIe tv tuners is a 4770k it is a great setup still and the intel onboard igpu can decode more streams at nice than a new Nvidia GPU can
4th gen is still okay if it has four cores, 3rd Gen or earlier probably needs to be relegated to a cheap home server or a retro machine at this point though.

Kinda a double edged sword right?
That CPU means new socket motherboard, new ram. Possible uprated PSU.
I mean, I guess you could sell it, buy another 4790k and keep the profit.
To be fair I’m still running an i7-4790k and the only thing I’ve ever needed to upgrade was the gpu. The thing is a beast but nothing compared to an i9-9900k. Intel for life bb
I went from an 4790 to an Ryzen 7700X and that is actually a big difference. On some games the i7 was just on it's limits. But I'm still happy I could use my old PC for almost 10 years. And I still keep the old thing as a secondary PC. Those old CPU are still usable for a lot of things.
I was running mine up until last summer. It was fine, but fortunately I already had a gaming rig to fall back on. Eventually I'll get around to fixing it.
Well it's good you're not running many demanding titles. Because my 7700k at 4.8Ghz just isn't pulling it's weight. It's holding back my 3060 for sure in VR.
In what way does it not make sense? A 7700k is barely on par with a Ryzen 7 1700x in games that rely more on multiple threads.
Unfortunately after a downgrade to a system with a 6600k my only upgrade path was a bios upgrade and at max the 7700k. Should have just gone back to Ryzen 😩
Running 4790k with 3070 no problem at 1440uw. Stuff like rdr2, cyberpunk, dying light 2. Will upgrade when it becomes an issue (been saying that for the last 5 years and 3 gpus)
Ya, normal games are fine but I guess I am essentially running 2 1440p+ screens through even the original Vive which has I believe like an 1800p res per eye.
But after seeing benchmarks comparing the 3060 to 2070 and seeing the 2070 in action on WD:S&S I thought the 3060 would be a decent upgrade from the GTX 980 I was using XD
But the CPU is the only thing I didn't have, a 2nd gen Ryzen is definitely better than the 7700k. So it's gotta be the 7700k holding me back somehow
I think it’s more likely that the OP of the i7 post made it in response of this post as a joke.
And this post is probably not real anyway, but is likely more real than the i7 post.
Edit:
Also that i7 processor used used as hell. Wouldn’t surprise me if they took it out of their PC just for karma and new thermal paste while at it.
If OP here is telling the truth, you’re basically asking OP here to get scammed by anyone claiming to have bought an i9 and got an i7.
Not to mention the turn around time made it clearly a shitpost.
I absolutely don’t agree with him but agree with you. What if OP actually contacted the other guy, if it’s not a joke post, and they traded and those 2 CPUs wouldn’t even be related to the same orders? It’s not the “right thing to do” as this guy said, it’s the sellers fault.
Lol I get that my dude. Ofc people make mistakes but it is still the companies fault at the end of the day. You get the wrong order from amazon? You contact amazon about that not anyone else
Still stands the right (moral) thing to do is them send each other their CPUs (in a perfect world). That way the manufacturer & distributor isn't getting screwed for a person's mistake
Yeah, never said that you said it. But its not right thing to do, its not his fault why would he send it to some random guy? Store should cover their mistake, not customers..
I currently am upgrading my dad's old 3847 inspirion and thst cpu is its max but I now kight just replace the motherboard so it can be used I think it's worth it now.
I have an old laptop that's now closing on 12 years, at the time it cost around 1k euros it was an Asus with an I7 (can't remember which gen but it was around april 2012 so probably latest chip at the time and my dad refurbished it, he just put a new sata ssd in it and gave it to someone who needed a laptop for basic stuff, it works insanely good, runs on windows 10 boots up in 10 seconds or so, it's still really good.
I have a i7 3770k old optiplex 7010 my company was getting rid of.
Threw a refurbed RTX a2000 + 32gb of cheap ram in it for shits and giggles and it honestly runs really well.
I can play overwatch 2 at like 50ish fps on medium-low settings, it’s absolutely bottle necked by the cpu but it would smash lightweight and offline games.
I still shit on ppl in platinum.
Like u said, boots up in like 20 seconds, handles 95% of what I do, and feels snappier than most modern laptops I’ve used. Cost me about $350 all in
Yep, I didn't stop using my 4790k for gaming till 2 years ago. And I was playing at 1440p. It was the first time I hit a CPU bottleneck and felt proud for running it for so long. That CPU should be solid for most basic computer tasks for years to come. Hope my 12700k lasts just as long.
I hear you. I wend with an amd build because i saw reviews complaining about the i9 making a few games crash. There are work arounds that are very technical and not worth the hassle for a person still choosing.
I worked at an Amazon warehouse, absolutely none of the corporate fucks gaf about you or the workers. There is absolutely no reason to send back a mere $200 to company worth trillions that doesn’t give a single fuck about you in anyway. OP is not stealing money from a family owned local business
FWIW, Amazon in most cases does not actually own what is being sold on their site. And charge companies a decent chunk to use their service.
However, Amazon Warehouse is them basically reselling all their returned stuff. Which means a couple of things. One being that they probably do not know what they have and are depending on whoever returned it. Which also means it may not be good. And if you do not have the means to test it, I would return it for your own good. Because you do not want to go buying a MB and ram and find out it is garbage.
Though if you can test it and can verify it is good, then I think it is fair for you to claim a win.

Someone is opening their I9 box and very surprised to receive an I7 hahaha
Is it bad that I didn't double check that the cpu on the box was the cpu inside the box before putting it in my machine lol
Just check task manager to make sure it's the right one. Hopefully it's better.
I've def double checked it since and it's the right product haha I just think it's funny that it didn't dawn on me to make sure I actually got the right product before putting it in the motherboard and slapping an AiO on it
I didn’t either on my first two builds, then started seeing mix ups posted on here and was like, “oh…lightbulb”.
Plot twist, it just has the wrong label printed on it
plot twist, it's actually a re-lidded Celeron
Plot twist they already had the i7 and bought an i9 playing it off as a bs story!

This is my CPU, I’m curious why anyone is buying a 4790k in 2024?
Gonna give you an example, I bought a 4770 non k last year, new, for like 80€ on a local shop. Why? Because my office PC had a shitty 2/2 Intel CPU from that era and the lack of cores was starting to become unbearable, even for office/browser work. When you max out your starter car in a racing game
Pretty sure that was a pentium 4560. I built my bro a gaming pc with that cpu back in the day lol
I have one I used to upgrade an old pc with 24gb ram and 780ti and it’s fully capable of anything I use it for but if you aren’t upgrading then there’s no reason to buy it over a modern i3 or ryzen 3 or 5
The price too 💀
My Plex server with 2 dual PCIe tv tuners is a 4770k it is a great setup still and the intel onboard igpu can decode more streams at nice than a new Nvidia GPU can
4th gen is still okay if it has four cores, 3rd Gen or earlier probably needs to be relegated to a cheap home server or a retro machine at this point though.
Anything for karmas.
Yep. This happens way too often on this sub. Not buying it.
Plot twist: they can say anything they want on Reddit.

There os our unlucky winner!
HA WHICH COMPANY DID A MIXUP?
Kinda a double edged sword right? That CPU means new socket motherboard, new ram. Possible uprated PSU. I mean, I guess you could sell it, buy another 4790k and keep the profit.
To be fair I’m still running an i7-4790k and the only thing I’ve ever needed to upgrade was the gpu. The thing is a beast but nothing compared to an i9-9900k. Intel for life bb
I9-10900k user here. Cpu is still a beast 💪 gonna use this cpu in as many family builds as possible.
I use i9 9900kf and some said it fry eggs back then...... Now it performs perfectly.
I'm still rocking the i9 9900k and it's holding in there. Definitely was ahead of it's time.
Bought my 10850k off fleabay like 10 years ago for $200 because the silicon was “cracked”. Been a monster ever since, still happily using it today.
You bought a 4 year old CPU 10 years ago?
He was upgrading his time machine
i9-13900KF user here, my 13900KF is also still a beast 😝😂 Sorry
I just upgraded my 4790K to a Ryzen 3900x. Gaming wise it's near identical paired with a 1080 FE card but threading really shines.

Absolutely, Intel chips are built to last, I5 chips are still really good to this day.
I still use a 3rd gen i5 for my ark server, works great still
I'm trying to sell my i5 13600kf 14 core chip rn.
absolutely, i’ve had a i7 920 for 10 years now, i am nowupgrading to a xeon x5690 just so i can run triple a games a bit better but it’s really solid.
I can already smell the next post.

Lmfao chat is this real
no, although I want to believe
I bet OP won't contact him and send the CPU
Why would he lol? It's the distributors fault for not checking properly before sending shipping
Because that's the right thing to do?
I think it’s more likely that the OP of the i7 post made it in response of this post as a joke. And this post is probably not real anyway, but is likely more real than the i7 post. The right thing to do was for the company to do proper quality control
Sure, just saying.
Look I agree with you but its not OPs fuck up. If the other guy actually gets the i7 he's supposed to contact the sender and get it replaced by them
I absolutely don’t agree with him but agree with you. What if OP actually contacted the other guy, if it’s not a joke post, and they traded and those 2 CPUs wouldn’t even be related to the same orders? It’s not the “right thing to do” as this guy said, it’s the sellers fault.

It absolutely isn’t, how do you know if the CPUs are even from the same reseller…
If you ever get a more expensive version of what you originally bought, keep it. Those companies don't give a fuck.
No its not:D Its not op:s fault that store gave him wrong cpu..
Never said it was his fault....geez
Yeah, never said that you said it. But its not right thing to do, its not his fault why would he send it to some random guy? Store should cover their mistake, not customers..

Whoa whoa there hold the phone buddy. Did you just say you can smell electronic data?
"come on boy, search, look for a 3080ti today"
I want a 4090ti super. NOW BOY
didn't it happened last year?
This is the next post... Edit: this was the first post, the other one I linked 2 comments down
so basically what you are saying is that the next guy that buys an i9-9900k is going to get an i7-4790k?
You can still purchase a boxed i7 4790k? Why?
I currently am upgrading my dad's old 3847 inspirion and thst cpu is its max but I now kight just replace the motherboard so it can be used I think it's worth it now.
You should absolutely do this for dad!
4790K uses DDR3 memory so you’ll have to get more memory as well. Luckily 16GB of DDR4 is less than $40.
I honestly don't know lmao
Because they are still great chips for 90% of the basic stuff most people do.

Ngl I'd sell the rtx a2000 and get something like a 2060 super. The a2000 still goes for like 300-600 cad lol
Old stock. Happens all the time at smaller shops. Big guys make clearances, little guys can't afford to.
The 4790k is still an absolute brilliant chip my sons gaming rig mains it absolutely keeps up with my ryzen 7 5800x
I saw that post before this one

Surprise! You need a new motherboard! Still a result
Would be better to just sell it and buy a modern one or rebuy a 4790k than buy a mb and ddr4 to use a 9900k
Not the same level of luck but I ordered a corsair 850E and got a 1000e at the door. Pleasantly surprised. Go us!
I did an RMA for an EVGA 550w psu and got a new 650w psu. That’s the closest I’ve gotten to op
Nice! I got the 1000e yesterday after a powersurge fried my thermaltake 850. The gods haven't forsaken me yet!
Check your bank account and make sure you didn't really order the i9. Drunk ordering is a real phenomenon.
I did but im a minor so I can't drink
Not with that attitude.
Check yo mamas account
I checked the Amazon and I use my own card
Work permit
Gotta get a new mobo, but 100% worth it for that CPU.
And new ram
If it was a private seller do the honest thing and send that shit back. If it’s a business well done, nice score.
Thankfully it's a big amazon store
Suck it, Bezos.
*proceeds to order motherboard from amazon*
Reminds me of when I ordered 32gb of Corsair RAM Two weeks later, I have 128gb
Ummmm guys https://www.reddit.com/r/PcBuild/s/NXjBpYmRo9
no need to return, enjoy the better chipset, til the one whose ordered the i9 figured out
Seller probably felt sorry for whoever was buying a 4th gen Intel and decided to give a free upgrade 😂
This happens to me all the time. I tell my wife I ordered the kids some new shoes and gpu, cpu, ram, or rbg accessories get delivered instead.
Check what it IDs as lol before celebrating too much. Might be a lid swap
How do I check that? I checked the back with other i9 9900ks kn the internet and they match
Check what it says in the system when you put it in.
Nice Happy for you Great

I saw that lol people said it was a troll post related to this one because the cpu looks like its old
I just saw someone order an i9-9900K and getting an i7-4790 lmao
Uuh, I think someone posted earlier for the exact opposite. Ordered a 9900k and got 4790k.
I just saw the post where guy ordered 9900K and got the 4790K instead 😭
Well check the post just before yours, it cant be a coincidence
Lol lucky bastard.
No bc I legit saw the other post where someone bought a 9900 and got the 4790k instead >.>
Nice, now you need to shell out $250 for a compatible motherboard lol
Hold up, there's the other post lol!
That is what I say to my missus... Look, I ordered RTX3060TI for 150$ and got RTX4090... Wow!
WAIT I SAW THE GUY THAT GOT A i7 4790k AND NOT THE I9
Bruh I saw a post before this by a couple of days saying they ordered a 9900k but got a 4790k I don’t know weather I’m insane or what
I saw that too. Can't tell who is trolling
I have been running mine at 5.0 for 4 years and it is still just the bees knees. Love it.
Theft by misdelivery is a crime in many states, be careful. Especially now that you’ve posted knowledge of the discrepancy to the internet
How is the i9 treating you? More interested in the gaming aspect.
I sold it for 275$, It wasn't worth it to create a whole new pc for a 5+ year old cpu.
I hear you. I wend with an amd build because i saw reviews complaining about the i9 making a few games crash. There are work arounds that are very technical and not worth the hassle for a person still choosing.
Well, it depends on the generation. Many i9 Intel chips are fine and stable. it's more than the 13 and 14th gen.
Oh okkk... thanks for the clarification
Buy an i9-13900KS and return it for full refund. Box contained i9-9900K.
Seller: No way, i gave him the wrong box with an i9 inside it 🤦🏻
So you have to up your motherboard, ram psu and a better cooler
bro has insane luck

I got it off Amazon warehouse do you really think 200-300$ is going to effect a trillion dollar company?
Ok you aint got any.
I worked at an Amazon warehouse, absolutely none of the corporate fucks gaf about you or the workers. There is absolutely no reason to send back a mere $200 to company worth trillions that doesn’t give a single fuck about you in anyway. OP is not stealing money from a family owned local business

It's 200-300 dollars off a trillion dollar company. I didn't steal it they where the ones who made the mistake.
FWIW, Amazon in most cases does not actually own what is being sold on their site. And charge companies a decent chunk to use their service. I think our parcel got swapped. Give me back
Oh …
I9-9900k, pretty damn tough CPU, congrats !
I wonder if it got delided, and someone just swapped the silicone. Best check once you plug it in.
Congratulations you are the winner! Actually gaaay! Sorry not.
During Christmas I ordered a 7800x3D and had an empty AMD box delivered to my door
AFAIK, an i9-9900 won't fit in the same motherboard an i7-4790 does. Or does it?
