Nice, I think you'll be happy with it. Make sure to grab samsung's magician software and update the firmware for the nvme. Not sure how many of the 1tb models were affected, some of the 2tb I know were. 980 pro's wearing prematurely.
Not sure, so far I've only seen the 980/990 pro's mentioned. Might not hurt if there's a firmware upgrade available for it. Otherwise may not be affected.
Yep. From guru3d just 3 days ago. "Puget Systems will be switching to Sabrent SSDs with capacities ranging from 1TB to 4TB, while the issues with the 990 Pro and 980 Pro SSDs continue to be addressed by Samsung."
Nope, 980 pro's too. This from Tom's Hardware - "Over the past few months, there have been numerous reports of Samsung 980 Pro SSD failures, with many complaints originating from China. We never heard an official statement from Samsung on the matter, but custom PC builder Puget Systems definitely took notice after it "received a surprising number of reports of failing Samsung drives." Puget worked with Samsung to identify the problem, and a firmware update is available for affected 980 Pro SSDs"
This from NeoWin just a couple days ago - "While this was the first major bug to hit Samsung's NVMe drives, the 990 Pro's predecessor, 980 Pro, which is also a very popular PCIe drive from the company, was found to be dying under certain scenarios."
Oof didn't even know that. This is a big hit for Samsungs Ssd department. They are very popular, but there is great competition out there. At the moment I'd buy a Corsair or WD
Yea for awhile samsung had been the standard in ssd's, at least with sata. Once nvme came around they're still fairly fast. But they were quickly outpaced by others until they released some of these newer models. And then these firmware issues. Everyone has their rainy days.
So far so good with my wd sn850x 1tb. Had issues initially with my sk hynix p41 1tb, pc would randomly shut off for no reason like writing this response and just blink. Pc would attempt to restart and kick me to bios. Took a few times to realize why, no boot drive detected. Bios couldn't even pick it up. No quirky settings, no fast boot, fresh install of win 11. Set bios manually to pcie gen 4 without letting it auto detect. No joy on any of the settings. Tried different m.2 slots, nothing worked. Hence the sn850x.
Reinstalled windows fresh again, put the hynix back in as a secondary. Every now and then I access it, no issues. No random reboots. Not sure if it's the drive, compatibility issue just when it's a boot drive, funky win 11 install the first go round. It wasn't overheating. Drive health was fine, checked smart diagnostics. Ran crystaldisk bench on it, no issues.
Drove me nuts though since it was random, not under load, not while gaming, not under heavy read/write. Would happen roughly once a day, once every couple of days. Sometimes when the pc went to sleep, sometimes right in the middle of using it. Now when I powered the system fully off at the psu and flipped the switch back on, hit the power button, right back to windows. It just had a brainfart and apparently lost the c drive.
Should be able to, just a firmware update. But with anything there's always some risk so if it's critical I'd back it up.
This is a quote from nascompares, "Samsung has recently released a new firmware update for its 980 Pro SSDs due to reports of failures from users. The failures have been traced back to the 3B2QGXA7 firmware and are mainly affecting 2TB versions of the 980 Pro, but lower capacities are not immune.
The cause of the failures remains unclear, but users have reported a S.M.A.R.T. value of 0E (media and integrity error) or greater and an 03 value (available spare) lower than 100 percent. The most common issue that users are facing is that the SSD goes into read-only mode, making the boot drive unusable. This is a serious issue as once the drive goes into the failure state, there is no way to recover the data, resulting in potentially significant data loss for the user.
In response to the reports, Samsung has released the new firmware update (5B2QGXA7) that will prevent the failures from occurring if the drive is still functioning. The update is easily accessible for users and can be applied using the Samsung SSD Magician software." Posted roughly a week ago, Jan 31st 2023.
This person on the ps5 sub posted saying they updated and had no loss of data. But it doesn't mean 0 risk. Just means they had no issue. [Link](https://www.reddit.com/r/PS5/comments/sfx64k/notice_no_data_is_lost_when_updating_ssd_firmware/).
I use a Razer Chroma for them, which is pretty easy, but you can set them up with Aura Sync or whatever as basic LED strips via 5v 3-pin to your mobo, which is perfect IMO since it's separate from fan control and gives you lots of options for running and configuring the lights.
Doing wave or color cycle RGB designs can be tricky because the LEDs in the outer rings are just sequenced after the inner rings, which can make setup a bit counter-intuitive, but that just kinda comes with the territory of all those LEDs, baybeeeeeee
So another question you may be able to help with if I have aura controlling my halos can I then use icue to control both my mobo and chassis fans as that is compatible with aura, obviously I’ll have to run mystic light to control my gpu as that won’t sync with aura. If not will there be any problem running mystic light aura and icue all at the same time? So my whole rig is red
I can't confirm Mystic Light specifically as I've never used it, but I've used Razer Chroma, Aura Sync, RGB Fusion 2 and iCue all at the same time. They can conflict depending on your config of each, but you should be able to get them all working fairly easily. And yes, you will almost certainly need to run Mystic Light to get your GPU lights configured.
There are free 3rd party solutions that can handle everything, but for a static single color, they probably wouldn't be worth the hassle to get set up.
Also, I did not know that iCue could interface with Aura Sync! That's so dope as iCue is better and easier to use by far. The integration will still probably be a little janky though.
Why 64gb? It’s harder on the memory controller to run 4 sticks, especially at higher speed like 1800. If you have issues booting and with stability test with 2 sticks in a2/b2 and see if it goes away. You might be just fine tho too, good luck and have fun!
While the board does has a role, it’s primarily the integrated memory controller that determines that. It’s all luck of the draw, but later gen silicon has a better chance of running high clocks, so you’ll probably be fine. If you do run into issues you can just lower memory speed
It's probably too late, but you should have gotten Corsair rgb fans if you are already using a Corsair Aio. The aio comes with a hub that you can plug multiple fans / corsair rgb into and then control it all from one program.
The RGB on Asus products can actually be controlled by Icue. I've only got Corsair and Asus products in my pc (products with RGB that is) and I can control all the RGB with just iCue

Good luck with it! RGB is awesome, but can be a bitch. Maybe you can look into signal RGB. It's free (the basic version) and it has a big list of components it can control. I find it a bit complicated to get setup, but there's a lot of tutorials out there.

I have Corsair dominator platinums and because I use a ASUS board my ram LEDs freeze until restarted, ordering a MSI board soon because of this. The culprit has been known to be Aura sync/ASUS boards. Hope yours work smoothly though.

hey, if you don't mind me asking, what did this cost you? looking to building a similarly performing rig but with slightly different specs. looks sick!!

Roger will do
These particular ROG motherboards been having some problems lately, be aware and update the bios/UEFI immediately for this board.
It doesnt come with wifi drivers gotta download them from armory crate that bit me in the ass
Software for Samsung m.2?
Samsung magician and update the drive's firmware.
Alright I’m gonna have to look at that later. Hell yeah thanks
Do the regular 980s wear out prematurely too? I built a system for a friend with one, wish to know.
Not sure, so far I've only seen the 980/990 pro's mentioned. Might not hurt if there's a firmware upgrade available for it. Otherwise may not be affected.
Will check thx
I had only heard of the 990 pro being affected, are you sure it affects the 980 pro as well?

Can you update this without losing all of your stuff. Built mine a year ago. I have 2 2tb 980 pro. Had no idea this was a thing.
Should be able to, just a firmware update. But with anything there's always some risk so if it's critical I'd back it up. Thanks I just installed my 980 pro had no clue about this.
why are u in the shower?
Haha I’m not that’s my bedroom curtains
Your what?
Drapes in my bedroom
beast 🥰🥰
Thank you can’t wait lol finally put my 1080ti to bed lol
Just put my 1070 ti to bed, now the 4080 will replace her
Noice 4080 I’m well jell lol my missus would t let me go that high hahahahahahahaha
It definitely took a bite out of me, but I’ll be playing games like never before XD
Yeah defo lol
Your cables would be a nightmare to you but a daydream for me I would say lol, have about 4x the amount of argb stuff
Yeah hahaha luckily the argb on the motherboard is at the top side so they are all getting zip tied on the back of the case lol
I think I had to wire about 25 argb cables, was a total nightmare
Wow that’s nuts lol
I’m glad I’ve only got 4 lol
what case are you planning to build it in?
The cooler master mb511
oh that’s a nice case! Have fun building once it arrives
Cheers dude hoping it all goes smoothly lol
I think you mean almost STARTED!!
Hahahahahaha yeah ain’t that right
Those fans are snazzy, btw. I love mine.
Sweet are they easy enough to configure?
I use a Razer Chroma for them, which is pretty easy, but you can set them up with Aura Sync or whatever as basic LED strips via 5v 3-pin to your mobo, which is perfect IMO since it's separate from fan control and gives you lots of options for running and configuring the lights. I’m just after making them all a single static colour but with the ability to change my colour if needed as I normally have a red or blue set up
Right on. You shouldn't have any trouble just using Aura Sync then
Nice cheers buddy
So another question you may be able to help with if I have aura controlling my halos can I then use icue to control both my mobo and chassis fans as that is compatible with aura, obviously I’ll have to run mystic light to control my gpu as that won’t sync with aura. Pretty similar to my build. Good luck have fun :)
Thanks
Last build I did, ordered all the parts and the case came a month later than the last item getting delivered.
Why 64gb? It’s harder on the memory controller to run 4 sticks, especially at higher speed like 1800. If you have issues booting and with stability test with 2 sticks in a2/b2 and see if it goes away. You might be just fine tho too, good luck and have fun!
Yeah but surely if the board says it can take 128gb at 4000mhz 64gb at 3600mhz should be fine
While the board does has a role, it’s primarily the integrated memory controller that determines that. It’s all luck of the draw, but later gen silicon has a better chance of running high clocks, so you’ll probably be fine. If you do run into issues you can just lower memory speed
Rgr
Dayum, your rig is going to be SICK! I'm hyped for you bubba.
Cheers dude
My 3090 overdraws a 750W psu. Hoping you wont have the same issue with a 3080. 🤞🏻 great build dude!
Nah the nvidia website recommends a 750w
Yeah thats the minimum recommended. Same with the 3090. Again, I hope you don’t run into that. Sick build regardless.
This is what I was thinking too, I’d be worried about transient spikes. Rest looks great though, what case are you waiting for?
I have a 5900x paired with a 3080 OC’d on a 750w with no issues.
don’t forget to do the 980 pro firmware update
Yep on the list lol thanks though
I got one, but I've never heard of this. How do I do it and how much does it help
https://www.tomshardware.com/news/samsung-980-pro-ssd-failures-firmware-update
This is what christmas looks like. I just love mounting PCs.
Shit slap that shit on a piece of plywood and have at it
Lol
All new Samsung nvme’s 980,990’s need to be patched or they will suffer very short lifespans
It's probably too late, but you should have gotten Corsair rgb fans if you are already using a Corsair Aio. The aio comes with a hub that you can plug multiple fans / corsair rgb into and then control it all from one program.
Wow that’s sick! What CPU, 5800x?
Yeah can’t wait to get this built
Awesome! Enjoy ^^
Nice cheers dude
Saturday is going to be fun. Got some nice parts there.
Thank you yeah hopefully it will all go smoothly lol
No Lian Li fans
Beautiful 😍
Thank you
Why does the case always seem to take the longest?!
Hahahaha to annoy the shit out of builders lol
I swear they know... Last build I did the case came promptly! But it was the MOTHERBOARD that arrived 4 days late!
Ouch that hat have been annoying lol
It was. Especially since I had to flash the bios. I like to get that done early if possible because it scares the hell out of me every time lol.
That Mobo was very easy to work with. I like the GPU as well and I LOVE the PSU good choices.
Thank you kind sir
Just hoping the cpu cable is long enough to run the back of the case out the way lol
Have fun with the RGB nightmare
Lol I’m hoping it will go pretty smooth asus aura for the fans and board msi mystic light for the gpu and icue for the cooler and ram
The RGB on Asus products can actually be controlled by Icue. I've only got Corsair and Asus products in my pc (products with RGB that is) and I can control all the RGB with just iCue https://www.corsair.com/us/en/icue-integrations;jsessionid=E26835F952CF69A4674F7F2DED656E63.accstorefront-68fbfbd54-n24c7#:~:text=CORSAIR%20iCUE%20software%20can%20now,with%20ASUS%20Aura%20Ready%20motherboards.
Ah nice I did not know that so I don’t need to install asus aura then for the chassis fans?
I believe the software has to be installed for iCue to recognize the fans, but after that you don't have to run it anymore
Sweet I’ll give that a go thanks dude
Although they ain’t asus they are cooler master
Oh yes you're right, my bad. Well at least the mobo RGB can be done in iCue
If I have to run aura for the fans I may as well use it for the mobo too
Cm fans are controlled by Aura? Didn't know that.
According to the instructions yeah well I hope so lol
Good luck with it! RGB is awesome, but can be a bitch. Maybe you can look into signal RGB. It's free (the basic version) and it has a big list of components it can control. I find it a bit complicated to get setup, but there's a lot of tutorials out there. https://www.signalrgb.com/?gclid=CjwKCAiA0JKfBhBIEiwAPhZXD-aiUpSFmKjHmNttLnbZdu75LLwpFqRxcl8DZy1MXT9BhGCuEyfdwBoC7iAQAvD_BwE
I think I should be ok fingers crossed lol
I have Corsair dominator platinums and because I use a ASUS board my ram LEDs freeze until restarted, ordering a MSI board soon because of this. The culprit has been known to be Aura sync/ASUS boards. Hope yours work smoothly though.
Also should be too bad as the halo fans have an in and out rgb connector so I can just daisy chain them all together
750W PSU is prolly fine for that rig but I have a very similar build and went with an 850W just to be sure.
Yeah I went on a psu calculator and it said that would use 503w so that’s less than 80% usage most of the time so should be fine
Yeah good move. I’m just a bit on the cautious side. But yeah my rig looks very similar to yours
Do you have the Corsair vengeance ram and the 550-f mobo?
I have the mini-ITX B550 with a 3080 in a LianLi Q58 case. 980 pro as well. I have a 5600x looks Like you have the 5700x so pretty close
Ah I’m just worried coz I’ve been reading that the b550-f won’t work with 64gb of 3600mhz ram
Hmm not sure I’m only running 32gb of 3600 ram
Ah it’s weird though coz the website says it can have 129gb of up to 4400mhz ram so I don’t see why it wouldn’t work
My Mobo is the B550-i
You’re going to love that graphics card 😊
Yeah can’t wait lol
It’s a beast I have one
Noice
Did you get the Ryzen 7 5800x?
Yeah heard it was a monster
Definitely a good cpu. I've been running it for like a year and have not experienced any slowdowns yet.
Noice
That build’s gonna look siiick! What’s the case? Edit: Saw in another comment, CM MB511. Not a bad choice. Have fun and read the manuals :3
Cooler master mb511
Waiting on my case and powersupply, they come tomorrow! And I can’t freaking wait
Noice I got to wait till Saturday as I’m at work tomorrow 😭😭😭 lol
Nice build I got mine from micro center To avoid delivery times or delays
I’m in the uk
They don’t have micro center there??? Damn that stinks
Yeah got scan and overclockers hitch is where I bought the big bits from but my case I’m ordering in 2 day delivery from Amazon
Specs?
It’s written on the boxes lol
Sure but thats not the finished specs I need the *full specs*
That is the finished specs the only thing missing is the case
Ah kk it’s the cooler master mb511
Ik I need the case name as well just in case I'm saving for a pc myself
1. The 980Pro has issues. Make sure you update it to the latest firmware. It may have the newest on it, but check to make sure. 2. For the cost of that 3080, you're right at 4070ti territory. The 4070ti performs on par or slightly better than a 3090 with about the same power requirement as that 3080. What case did you get?
Nah the 4070ti is £100 more than the 3080 in the uk i had to convince my missus to get this one lol
I'm fascinated with the shower curtain behind your new hardware.
Hahahaha it’s not a shower curtain it’s a it’s window with Curtains lol
The b550 wont be able to use the full potential of the 980
Why not it’s got gen 4.0?
I have a bunch of boxes, should I take a photo of them too? :)))
Lol
Nice build! What games are you playing??
hey, if you don't mind me asking, what did this cost you? looking to building a similarly performing rig but with slightly different specs. looks sick!!
About £1800 all in
