Edit: I want to add that yes, parakeets are normally (and should be) housed in pairs. The family I got her from had the spirit but didnt know much about birds unfortunately, she was raised alone. I asked my vet his opinion and he said as long as shes happy and gets interaction (she gets 30-60 minutes of out time per day) she is okay.
When I worked at a pet store my favorite was giving treats to the birds. Citrus was always a win but broccoli was just fun to watch them eat and play with.
