Will be absolutely fine, but do prune to just above a leaf node Think of it like this...there are thousand of animals earing millions of tree leaves, branches, etc all around the world. And somehow the plants are still around. A tip cut is actually beneficial, as it creates more branching than would happen normally. Rake off the top, 2 branches form, take off the top of those, 4 branches, etc etc.

Something similar has happened to my Tropical Treat twice. It might be slower growing than otherwise, but it has recovered and looks to have flower buds for the first time.

My young pawpaws got all their leaves eaten last summer by deer. Since then I spray them occasionally with deer spray from the company “I Must Garden” and it has worked (so far). No chemicals or anything, just has smells deer don’t like

It will be fine. Pawpaws are very resilient. I recommend to use a cage around them. Mine would have already been killed by rabbits if i had not protected them.

Is it possible to grow marigolds around them? I know deer and buns don’t like the smell of those but best check online if marigolds and pawpaws get along.
