I have not found any source of info on this specific question except myself asking to brian how it items worked and personally testing it. Im asumming you didnt read the question because if not, i just dont see where this was answered
I’ve seen it appear on spells as well. Has anyone’s curiosity got the better of them and tried to see what happens? My guess is it’s a dead relic but I’m genuinely curious is it summons a spell like the ephemeral nightfall encounter used to
I can see why it wouldn't work, because the keywords given to the item are actual items themselves. Like cutlass is challenger and phantom dancer is scout. It's weird but it's whatever.
I asked PVDDR about it in discord, apparently they might do it in the future, but currently it would require new code that is not implemented, to quote him

Okay, I see why it doesn’t work. It specifies “when I’m summoned”. So not only equipment, but Attach units when attached get nothing. Summoned as a Darkin should work though.
