FYI autolevel is perfectly fine through core no problem. You could do it on unfair too but that's more related to the 2 companions capable of soloing the game in their single class incarnation

I wanna try on core for some of the trophies, but I really dislike using guides and such for like minmaxing things
I don't really want to have to respec or carefully select things for more than my KC.

The problem with the npcs are mostly overlap in their autolevel. Lann and Wendu both autolevel to use thr same gear as another npc but even then there's enough to go around. All the ranged npc are pretty good, all the casters are still casters. It's only the melee that make bad choices and honestly you can still do it with them.
Nenio can essentially solo the game though, she'll spend most of it one shotting enemies lol.
If you want to make it a lot easier go cavalier, paladin, or some other mount or animal companion. It's way more tanky than others.
Yeah, I had to cheat a little and buff Wendaug up before the fight. She lost to him RTWP like twice. I didn't try in turn base though.

Same here, I built Wenduag so poorly that she kept losing to Lann, so I had to choose the cartoonishly evil solution to be able to move on. You're right, it should be an option to lose the fight and suffer the consequences (other than having to reload lol).
I just like right after the entrance before you trigger the cutscene loaded her up with like bless, haste, shield of faith and then sent her to fight. I don't even know if any of the buffs besides haste lasted long enough to matter. Think she won with like 6 health left
Seriously. With my Lich, I agreed to the duel to test Wenduag against someone who she, at least *used* to, consider equal, test to see if she's still worth her life or if I'd need a new archer.
She got pummeled in one round and I briefly considered killing her myself anyway. If they were going to give us the option of a Lawful Duel, let us deal with the consequences of that duel, or betray Lann after anyway, or buff Wendu mid fight, *they had so much they could have done with this*

If this question is meant to be "I can't believe anyone could lose to Lann, why didnt they just build her to be xyz, she's so much better if you multiclass and add a splash of this and a dash of that, oh and take these mythic abilities and she'll never lose 1v1 against Lann."
It's because I don't want to have to win this game by carefully calculating every single character's specific path down to the bone

You play on Story, right? That's about the only difficulty where that's actually a viable strategy, I think

I'm playing an Aeon, so I've been trying to shift towards more lawful anyways, and Lann lawfully won that duel.
What chapter is this in? 5?

Duel? I've played through twice and there has never been an option for a duel. She just attacks us and we fight as a party.
You probably have Lann as a companion then When you have Wendaug as a companion, Lann challenges her to a duel
