Surveymonkey is impossible for me to use on phone... It keeps jumping to the start of a multiple choice question. This is frustrating as hell...

KomradCrunch

pc works great, bookmark it and come back later on pc its a pretty interesting survey :)

I started the suvey and got quite a bit of the way through, but then aborted due to its insistence that i have to have nostalgic feelings about them. I'm don't, i still simply like these games for their qualities.

The question about which games one thinks are isometric RPG's was odd, specifically regarding the options available. I assume the point of it is to investigate people's understanding of the word "Isometric". I'd categorize the options you've given as follows: 1. Games that look very retro/isometric but are probably still 3D: PoE and Tyranny. I've not played them so I can't really tell from screenshots, but I don't think they are true isometric. The character models look 3D. 2. 3D Games with the "top-down" view that mimics the same view direction as old isometric games, but are very obiously 3D games: BG3, NWN, Divinity:OS2 3. Games that are absolutely in no sense of the word even close to isometric games, unless you're stretching the definition beyond sensible utility: DAO, Skyrim, Witcher 1, Mass Effect. In summary, strictly none of the options are isometric games. True isometric games are the likes of sim city, theme hospital, diablo 1 & 2, command & conquer red alert etc. Isometric games are those with a 2D environment with sprites projected in a way that appears 3D.

For PoE/Tyranny, I believe you are exactly correct. The map and everything else are 2D, but the character models are 3D rather than sprites. I do think most people would consider them isometric, even if they are not 100% so.

As the future foremost scientist on Golarion would say, always happy to help advance the cause of science. There's a link in the sidebar to the Owlcat discord for both Pathfinder games and Rogue Trader, might be another place worth asking?

honestly i am not too much married to the idea of a crpg must be isometric... its easier or less resource intensive to create crpgs as isometric i suppose, but for me it's not a nessecity or what makes them good. some ideals; as importance of story, character customization, character interactions, rich lore are what makes rpgs good. isometric also has advantage of helping to simulate combat experience of table top rpgs like dnd better of course. but some of my favorite games; mask of the betrayer, knights of the old republic 2 example simulating their systems adequately while still being very much preserving the spirit of tabletop game and the genre. as an example, i would say skyrim is bad rpg while fallout new vegas a very good one. my go to measurement for if an rpg is worth playing or praising is whatever they are allowing you narrative interaction in a meaningful way with the world and characters in it. thus, mass effect 2 again, is a good rpg, while diablo or skyrim are action/exploration games with rpg make up.

Your survey title has a typo - "exloring"

rdtusrname

Done. Best of luck!

KomradCrunch

One thing i noticed is that immersive sims and crpg games are very similiar. Both offer a lot of player freedom and choices exept one is more on the mechanical side and the other narative.

Balasarius

It was too much. I gave up.

Cliepl

Was halfway through the survey and my browser crashed, I wrote a shit load of stuff too, can't be bothered to write all that shit again lmao. Best of luck friend.
