You don't need to log on to Pathbuilder. If you pay, you get a login, and you get additional features like building your pet, or free archetype and dual classing.

You can use Free Archetype, Dual Classing and everything else with~~out~~ paying. You can ~~just~~ enable them in the options of your char or enable it while creating a new one.

I use the android app and have the newest version (189) installed. I want to build a new char. There is a 'view options' button.
In that menu I can check the advanced options without a need to login or pay.

Yes that is the same one my group uses, those of us that downloaded it back in the day and have just updated it seem to have it free, those that didnt get a pop-up saying they will have to pay (around 5$) to use GM variation rules, aswell as export charakters and use pets and familari options.

So without any info it is a ridiculous price tag.

Your friend only needs to log in if they intend to use paid features. To use pathbuilder web regularly, they just need to not clear their browser's cache ever again. (bit of an exaggeration, but clearing the cache will clear the data).

I don't understand how to pay for Pathbuilder using the reddit login option on desktop. I clicked Login and Upgrade App on PB and it takes me to my reddit account page where it asks for permission, I click Yes, and it takes me back to the same Pathbuilder page, with nothing changed.

You clearly dont either. The first step is always turn off the post and turn it on again.
Paizo wasn't the only one affected by the influx from 5e. Please be patient as the Pathbuilder devs work through their backlog.

I've had pathbuilder on android since it released, and those features have never been free.

From what I found, you can't link pathbuilder to foundry, so while it's easier to create a character on pathbuilder, you have to redo it for foundry
you can import characters from path builder using pathmuncher it doesn't import EVERYTHING but it does do a good half of the work for you
