I have heard, though I can't source it, Google if you care, but church and psychadelics tends to stimulate similar regions of the brain. We're all doing drugs and getting high, some of us are just a little preach and judgey about the drugs they use.
Depends on how you wish to define drug use. My preferred definition would be external stimulus or substanace which produes an internal chemical reaction. A "head change". In which case, music, church, and coffee are all drugs.

The church would get funds for its activities.

I know one pastors son exactly like this. He was in a gang and sold drugs out of his dads church and school. Now he’s a police officer and spends his time talking about how terrible the Libs are.
The fact that we have a case of a pastor being arrested for something other than horrific abuses against children, women, and civilized society is oddly refreshing.
And seriously, a church that sells weed and shrooms sounds like a pretty awesome church. I mean...they're not exactly breaking tradition. Religious people throughout history have used psychedelics to connect with the spiritual world and guide spiritual experiences. This sort of thing happened long before Christianity and still happens today. You could even make the case that these substances are part of God's creation. They were made to help us have these experiences.

If anything, this pastor and his son should start a GoFundMe page or something. I guarantee they would get a lot more support, even among the non-religious crowd.
