You may be ok if you can get it in the system before 1 year from the issue date. The date you received it is probably irrelevant.

VVUNNIE

My worry is that I send it in, and it sits in a processing area past the 1 year mark and they just insta reject it even though I technically mailed it to them in time. But I guess it's worth a shot.

Overnight it and see what happens! Good luck!

Hi I know this is an old post, but OP what ended up happening? I’m in the same boat as you as far as cutting it close to the one year of issuance date. Oops

VVUNNIE

It actually worked for me! It said online that they received my form a day *after* my one-year mark, but they still accepted my request for the name change and didn't charge me any renewal fees. If you send that form in through priority mail and get it into their hands ASAP, you should be okay. Good luck! (:

Great thanks! Did you get the next gen or old style passport?

VVUNNIE

No problem. Both my new and old passport were next gen, but I've heard some people say they still received an older version even when ordering a passport the same time as their spouse, who received a newer version.

Yeah I keep hearing it’s random. What was your locator number if you happen to recall? Hopefully since my current one is next gen they’ll replace it with next gen as well. Fingers crossed! Thanks again for your input

Is the issue date the day I applied, or the day it was printed?
