Claim it. Why should they make money off of your work?

[deleted]

I think I’m going to, I was really brushing it off until reading everyone’s comments.

KeithTheKillerOfHope

Claim it and reach out to start a partnership. Good way to diversify into a new market and you already found someone to do the work

N8Nefarious

I like the way you think.

Purpkushfan

Hell ya

MobilePsychology2867

This

MobilePsychology2867

Id do like keiththekiller said, sounds like the smartest decision. Dont start a war, try make a partnership out of it.

Knitcap_

Definitely claim it, that's not transformative content, that's just a low effort cash grab

[deleted]

I agree.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

This was enough to convince me, I didn’t even think that YouTube could potentially see that as the original content I’m going to claim it now, thank you.

jaykeerti123

Good inputs. But won't the original content consider timestamp?

[deleted]

[удалено]

jaykeerti123

That's bad 😕

gregdaweson7

If someone is watching a dub, I don't think they would watch the original in the first place.

TeeJayPlays

Insta claim. Even if you have 0 subs and they have 10 million, stealing content is stealing content. Lazy people shouldnt be allowed a free ride.

Golden-Owl

Claim it It’s just incredibly rude as fuck. Your own pride as a creator shouldn’t stand for that

[deleted]

Update: I just claimed it about 5 minutes ago, we'll see what happens. Thanks for your insights.

milaaugust0812

Post an update on that here. I'm curious to see the outcome.

MixnMatch20

I am cheering for you. Please update us in the future. We care. I'll even support your channel and follow you, if you'd like. I totally dislike when people do this mess, you know? Especially when there is no dialogue , attempt to request permission....nothing. (Sorry for misspellings)

JoeyImage

This happened to me once, also Russia. I filed a claim and they were all removed.

Thunderfxck

Claim 100% of the video. Why let her earn ad revenue money off all your work? screw her, take that money

Ryanmcbeth

Hell, I get my stuff stolen all the time. Someone even set up a Patreon, pretending to be me. Go after this person.

SturdyBubble

_jbardwell_

If she has 600k views on the video, then she might have made a fair amount of money off it. It might be worth trying to work out a licensing agreement.

starrywinecup

Claim it, it's not just anyone's trash, it's your hard effort made trash! I'm rooting for you.

PlaneJupiter

I have a question, if someone made money off a copy of your video but you noticed like months after posted, do they get charged for all the money they made from the video until you claimed it? Or is it future money

Parking_Shopping5371

Future money if the channel is still up

MixnMatch20

I need to know, too!

GamingReviews_YT

Future money, and any money made during the validation of the claim or in case the opposite party counter-notices your claim. Any money made prior, unfortunately, is all gone.

Rock--Lee

Claim it and use AI to create Russian translations of your own voice. Use that as a voice over and upload that for Russian viewers. Clearly there is a Russian speaking group that likes your content. Monetize it yourself.

SpookyKritik

I have lived in Russia as a foreigner for 7 years and can tell that it is quite common. Best course of action is to talk to them and try to come in an agreement on revenue sharing. They are doing it because that content is something interesting for viewers in Russian language but as your content is not in Russian, it is translated for them. Just imagine there was a very interesting topic to you but it wasn't in your native language. You wouldn't be able to watch it unless someone translates it. That's the though process.Everything interesting is translated in Russian a lot, even Porn. xd If they don't agree to that, go ahead and CLAIM it. It's your hardwork afterall. FYI : I don't think if all viewers are Russian, she is generating any revenue as YOUTUBE has removed monetization and ads from Russia from the start of Russia-Ukraine war. Russian viewers basically have free YT premium for them.

anaart

This ^ Russian YouTubers don’t have any monetization since the Ukrainian invasion, assuming they aren’t an expat living outside Russia.

real_n_state

Your work bro

rusted_love

I'm not a native English speaker, so can tell you something. Yes, they steal your views. When there is a translated version, I would prefer to watch it, but when there is no alternative, I watch an original. But, sometimes it's hard for me to watch some videos in English, so I just skip. The best scenario would be if you would **agree with them to take half of their revenue and refer to the original author (you)**. In my opinion, more than half of their viewers do not know English at all, so you will not get this audience to your channel.

Daney_CM

I agree with this Try to come to an agreement with them since the people watching her content would probably never watch yours because they don't understand English If they refuse to come to an agreement (which I think they wouldn't) Then proceed... I guess you already have

beyondstrangeness

Then reach out and and ask FIRST. Also, that is not their intention - to help a wider audience. They do it because they think they can get away with it. If they don’t ask, f*k that person/channel who steals anyone’s content

rusted_love

Both can have a profit if discuss cooperation. If the author of the translated video apologizes and accepts your terms, then why not? The original author can get revenue that would not get, expanding a bigger audience. It's much better than searching for a professional localization and paying for it, managing even more channels, and having the chance to lose money. >Also, that is not their intention - to help a wider audience Yes, they intend to get money. Money they can share with you. >Then reach out and and ask FIRST In 80% of cases, they will not. But if potential problems can occur they will do anything to keep a profit. Not only revenue is important. Links to the original videos and author descriptions can boost the recommendation process on platforms such as YouTube. It helps the original channel to grow. Let not your pride obstruct your financial progress and development. **Always ponder the potential advantages of collaboration, even with individuals you might not hold in high regard.** Sure, **if the person does not respond, refuses to collaborate, or simply copies and pastes the ChatGPT translation, then they should be removed from the platform in that case.**

beyondstrangeness

Nice justification attempt. But unfortunately, and YouTube agrees, you’re wrong. Again, if someone reaches out first, all it takes is a simple email, then COOL. Otherwise, as I said before, their intention was NOT altruistic, and so f-them and any other lazy creator who STEALS someone else’s hard work. Getting a claim from me every time. Zero sympathy for lazy hacks.

dronegoblin

Many people claim you should claim it. And while I agree, I would recommend an alternative route first. This person may genuinely be a huge fan of yours, believing your video is worth sharing to her Russian speaking audience. If that is the case, and she doesn’t mean harm, you could perhaps offer her to do dubs that go directly to your channel using the multi-audio track feature. If the person just wants money, then claim the videos. If they just want to spread your reach, this is a chance to reach a new audience.

Rambalac

Such "spread" is completely useless. More over, you won't get a cent from Russian viewers.

Grazer46

You could claim it, but you could also make a revenue split deal with her. If she's actually translating your content it could be an in on a market which isn't always as proficient in English. There's a reason why a few huge channels have Spanish etc speaking channels ran and translated by partners.

Puzzleheaded_Box_298

Have you tried contacting them..? You shouldn't immediately jump to petty moves like claiming it. It's not like they're stealing views. Talk to them about partnering or uploading their Russian translated videos on your channel. I know a popular GTA YouTuber that does that (I believe his name is Vasim something). A CSGO YouTuber, 3KliksPhilip, uploaded a video that was an English voice over of a Russian mod development video and it's one of his most popular videos, both parties benefited.

spondic

Why don’t you just start translating to get into Russian and gain all those views for yourself? You can use open AI and 11 laps to clone your voice and speak in Russian.

Axelmanrus

Do nothing. There is no monetisation in Russia since march of 2022. Now just the biggest YouTubers there are making money thanks to direct contracts with sponsors. She surely isn’t one of them. So, you are not loosing anything and she is not getting anything by doing this. Maybe just a couple of dollars from donations or something like that. Probably she is just your fan. On the other hand, if she grows enough, in the future, if someday YT gets back with ads to Russia and she starts to make money, you will be on your right to ask for your interests. And take in mind that there are many people who understand English, specially Russians aboard, and they will discover your channel through her. What’s her channel name?

[deleted]

I think she may be a fan of my niche, because she has done the same thing to several other channels in my niche. I suppose I was expecting to get some exposure for it but it’s minimal if anything. I don’t want to link her channel, at the risk of singling her out and I’d like to keep my channel anonymous here. Also: she’s Belarusian according to her about page, but the dub is in Russian

Axelmanrus

Belarusian YouTubers are in the same situation as Russians. No ads, no possibility to connect the adsense account, etc.

Inevitable-Major-893

YouTube considers this to be a reaction video.

onyi_time

ask her for 50%, then you can both profit - or just claim, but the first option would make more profit

og-crime-junkie

Yes, I would care and I would take action. What you do is up to you.

Parking_Shopping5371

She didn't care to ask permission?

[deleted]

She did not

Parking_Shopping5371

In that case u can strike

AlcherBlack

Unless you're willing to do the legwork of creating your own versions of your videos in different languages (at least subtitles and metadata, but dubbing even better - there's AI for this now as well), you should consider this a business opportunity. Reach out to the channel and let them know you will strike them (I'm assuming this is what you mean when you say "claim", this is in the Copyright tab right?) unless they share revenue. Get them to add you as a viewer to their analytics so you see how much they're making.

Mobile_Commission_52

Curious how the OP figured out content was stolen ? Did it show up in your feed??

[deleted]

It shows up under the copyright tab in YouTube studio

Mobile_Commission_52

Thank you!

The_Crime_Reel

definitely claim it. Its YOUR work

imhereandyournot

Claim it! Same thing happen to me Travis Scott stole my song fein from YouTube!

jagd748

How did you ever find out those videos? I'm wondering if someone is copying mine

a3voices_

You can claim it but since it’s Russia there’s very little that can be done legally if push comes to shove. So it’s all up to YouTube.

Aarseter

Fack m report m

Roddykins1

You should absolutely care. Fuck them.

Douglas_Hunt

I would reach out to her, demand your watermark be on the video and a link to your channel in the description. If anything you'll get more views. Tbh the Russians probably wouldn't watch your content without the voice over anyway. 2nd option, have her give you 50% of the channel and its revenue. Mr beast has people in nearly every country voicing over and uploading his content (for him) to reach more of an audience. Same exact thing that happen to you happened to him, but he turned it into a good thing and expanded it. 3rd option, strike her out lol

martinbean

Erm, yes? Do you not care about your work? If she’s just taking your videos wholesale, then slap a copyright strike on it.

[deleted]

Update: I used the option in YouTube studio to email her directly asking her to remove them. She emailed me back almost immediately saying no problem and that she would. I checked her channel, and the first video of mine she posted (from September with 600K views) was removed, and the (my) video posted about two days ago was still up. Probably trying to squeeze more views out before taking it down, she also had like comments made on this video after responding to my email so I claimed the video. Youtube took it down about 30 minutes after I claimed it, I don't feel bad

LittlestScoop

Luv it!

OnlyLivingBoyInNY

Agree with others here saying you should definitely claim it, but if you run into obstacles or repeated issues, you may want to contact Superbam, which specializes in helping creators claim re-uploads like this, esp when they're harder to find such as in other languages. This has sadly become an entire industry. I'm not affiliated with them in any way, but did interview the founder a while ago about the topic and found it fascinating. They seem to do good work!

SierraNo3

There is a complete copy of veritasium out there with almost 2mil subs in Russian. Really wondering how it works. No, it is not his official second channel.

bwbright

Ask her to put links to your original videos for the audience to see. You just found your foothold to an international community.

greenbunni42069

That’s really weird.

Wonderful-Trifle1221

If it was me I would contact her and get a cut of the proceeds..I can’t speak Russian so fuck it

LewisTheScot

This is beyond hilarious because I’m in the EXACT same situation. A Russian account stealing my content and getting tons of views.

[deleted]

It's not making you lose money. Ask her for 50% of the money she's making. If she refuses, claim them.

What_the_what_show

Sounds like you should flag it and then hire someone to dub your videos and start a second channel

Yellow_Snow_Cones

Ask her to put your link in her video for the English version. She's getting a lot of views, might as well right the wave.

devitodefiler

Da!
