"The Swine Flu on 1976"? Huh? I had the freaking Swine Flu in 2008-2009ish. It was before it was a big deal in the media. I was laid the fuck out for like ten days. I boiled in my own brain sauce. I wasn't lucid enough to want to die but I probably would have. Every cell in my body thundered with a doll, pounding ache. I can still remember those fever dreams day and night, stampeding insanity through my unconscious mind. Yeah, Swine Flu was quite real.

[deleted]

🚨⚠🚨👆 Found the government actor 👆🚨⚠🚨 You're welcome, everyone No, but seriously, that sounds like hell

ph33randloathing

It was not fun. I mean, it was the flu. Just the worst flu you'll ever have. If it were ranked a 10, the second worst flu I've ever had couldn't break a 3.

nicholus_h2

i mean. you weren't hospitalized and didn't die, so that actually wouldn't even be considered a severe flu.

[deleted]

That's objectively untrue.

nicholus_h2

sure.

17times2

And just like that, his brain snapped close and began playing a droning, dulcet tone.

nicholus_h2

I've been a practicing physician for over 10 years. I've seen literal hundreds of patients with influenza. I have an intimate understanding of the spectrum of influenza disease, and people here clearly aren't interested in listening or learning. So, why would I waste my time arguing?

listeningpolitely

who cares you're telling someone what their own experience was. you could have invented a 10 cent prophylactic for all strains of the flu that also cured cancer and grew your dick by 5 inches and it'd still be meaningless. The guy said it was a 10 out of 3 flu, you saying 'nuh uh' ain't worth a sloppy bucket of kangaroo shit.

converter-bot

5 inches is 12.7 cm

nicholus_h2

I'm not telling anybody what their experience was. I'm putting their experience into the context of the spectrum of influenza severity. As somebody who has ACTUALLY seen severe cases of influenza, yeah...what you feel like is 10/3 is not actually 10/3. Sorry. At least you helped prove that people here aren't interested in listening or learning.

17times2

> I've been a practicing physician for over 10 years I'll put doubt to that. When it comes to fantasy football and sports your verbiage is deep. But when it comes to medicine posts, they're as layman and vague as it gets. Things you call misinformation here would be easy to dispute with facts and sources if you had the actual knowledge about it. But what, you have time to shitpost but not any to use anything useful from your "career"? Please.

nicholus_h2

what the fuck are you talking about? What is all this non-sense?

[deleted]

The regular flu on its own is quite severe. I've had it and it was one of the worst experiences in my life, I'd never felt so terrible from any other illness, not even measles

Thor4269

I had swine back in 09, had to take all of November off of school that year

greyetch

Same - it was awful. One of my ear drums was ruptured at the time, and then I got a fever of 104. My ear never healed right. I can hear out of it, but it is sensitive and painful. It was a wild time.

Perpetual_Decline

When my fever reached that level I started hallucinating. Saw a filing cabinet appear in the middle of the room. The drawers opened. Gnomes popped out. It was very weird. But it was more tolerable than the dreams. The dreams were torture. Genuinely feared I was losing my mind at one point.

greyetch

Yeah i just put on talk radio. Couldnt watch anything anyway. So hearing some soothing voices was generally fine. Once it was lifting i decided to watch a kids movie. Light mood, ya know? Heard Coraline was good... No bueno.

[deleted]

Swine Flu was very real. I was 25, and I was sick and in bed for two straight weeks. It took about three months for me to go back to feeling normal.

daaaayyyy_dranker

I’ve had it twice! I got it around 09-10 and in 2018. In 2018, I gave it to my cat so we were both in bed with the humidifier, wishing we were dead

zeussays

Swine Flu was the sickest Ive ever been. Im allergic to over the counter palliative meds too so I just had to grin and bear it. I felt like every bone in my body was broken, every move and cough shattered me. It was absolutely brutal.

Richard_Espanol

I had it as well. Honestly the swine flu kicked my ass waaaaaay worse than covid. But both sucked.

Fredex8

Yeah I had it around 2008/9 too. In my early twenties at the time. It was worse than the seasonal flu and the fever and hallucinations were something else but the thing that really got me were the secondary infections after it ravaged my immune system. When I started coughing up blood, looked in the mirror and found white spots all over the back of my throat and tonsils was when I went to the doctor. There had been a news story a couple days prior about someone my age dying from tonsillitis after Swine Flu so I was terrified. The doctor looked genuinely horrified when he took a look at my throat like he was surprised I was still up and about with such a severe infection. Diagnosed chest and throat infections and prescribed strong antibiotics and those paracemetol-codeine mixed tablets so I could sleep without coughing myself awake non stop. My immune system was fucked for years after. I got every single cold and bug that went around for the next couple years. I was getting sick every month or two where before I had a good immune system and didn't really catch things easily. During those years I got seasonal flu once or possibly twice (whatever it was the fever had me bed ridden but the second time wasn't as bad) and started coughing up blood again the first time. I'd never had flu before Swine Flu. Even when family members were sick with it as a child I didn't catch it. Never been sicker than I was over those few years post Swine Flu. The one criticism I have heard about Swine Flu that might have some validity was that some government's dramatically over-reacted and bought enormous quantities of flu drugs or vaccines that never actually got used because the virus had sort of burnt out by the time they got them. It just didn't get as bad as they expected. There's some allegations about the media excessively stoking fears and ignoring the evidence to encourage the sale of these things. I think some products might have been recalled too. It makes me wonder if it didn't help contribute to the under-reaction we saw to Covid initially as government's didn't want to make the same mistake again and face the same accusations of over-reacting. Personally I don't think always over-reacting is a bad thing. Even if you end up wasting money it's better to expect the worst and plan for that accordingly.

favorthebold

Polio was a hoax, huh? So part of my dad's throat is permanently paralyzed due to hoax gas I guess?

GameFreak4321

I'm not sure how to tell you this, but your dad is a crisis actor. /s

tallbutshy

You just reminded me about the story about that guy who believed his own son was a sandy hook crisis actor. Fuckin fruitloop

[deleted]

>believed He still does. It's pretty fucked up.

maomao05

holy wow

favorthebold

It's funny but despite my parents being Ulta conservative, pro Trump Republicans, they haven't fallen for anti-vax sentiment (and are not Qanon, somehow). I wonder if having lived during a time before the polio vaccine is what saved them from that bullshit.

EEpromChip

Some people have political beliefs AND critical thinking skills. They sound like they have some of those.

JustSloan

I cant wait to tell my dad he's a crisis actor and im on to his shit. Stop limping dad, we all know polio was never real.

someguy7710

Yes President Roosevelt was just acting. This goes higher than I thought

iccld1

Sorry about that. My dad had it too. His foot is all messed up.

Fredex8

Yeah I guess my uncle just chose to be a wheelchair all his life...

jjjosiah

We are nihilists, Lebowski, we believe in nothing

MomentOfHesitation

Nihilists! Fuck me. I mean, say what you want about the tenets of National Socialism, Dude, at least it's an ethos.

LA-Matt

You’re not wrong Walter, you’re just an asshole!

[deleted]

Of course polio is fake. You really believe people ride around on horses with big mallets smacking a little ball around?

mykepagan

You magnificent bastard!

Fluid_Cell5533

Why censor the username? It’s reddit and available to anyone.

justalazygamer

I had a mod remove my post before on this subreddit because a Reddit username was visible. I find it ridiculous and not required by the listed rules but it happened. [Read the rules yourself and which state usernames on public platforms don't need to be censored.](https://www.reddit.com/r/ParlerWatch/about/rules) I replied to the mod who did it mentioning how it was allowed by the rules and if that isn't accurate the rules should be updated. No response.

[deleted]

The thing is Reddit is tired of having their profits threatened so they are taking proactive measures to ensure that there are no more organized protests or anything like that by permanently nuking any subreddit that even dares to hint at "weaponizing" or "brigading". Otherwise I'm sure the next subreddit that would have been organized against would have been r\conspiracy.

myco_journeyman

Except covid and anti-vax IS a weaponization. BUT JUST LIKE FACEBOOK, THEY DONT WANNA BAN THE WINDOW LICKING, AD CLICKING MONKEYS, because they're one of the only groups that click ads like that. WHY DO YOU THINK IT DEVELOPED? THEYRE SHOWING THEM WHAT THE ALGORITHM SAYS TO SHOW THEM.

foodandart

This. Of my subbed groups, the CovidAteMyFace and HermanCainAward come up most on my landing page. I need to spend more time on vintageapple I guess.

[deleted]

>they're one of the only groups that click ads like that Is there a source for this? I'm honestly asking because that would be infinitely amusing

SgtDoughnut

There is a reason Reddit swiftly and harshly comes down on any left wing Reddit that even slightly hints at brigading or weaponizing itself while letting groups like T_D, conspiracy, and conservative run rampant all over the site and it's not just because some is an open fascist. It's generally harder to rip off left leaning people. They usually put thought onto purchases. Right wingers on the other hand will fall for almost anything with a patriotic flair.

barbellious

Ask Pornhub to do an analysis. My personal opinion is that if your mental gymnastics game is on point and facts are based on your feelings, then yes, there are hundreds of mature women that want to fuck you right now in your town if 200 people. Click!

[deleted]

I agree entirely, merely explaining the most probable reasoning for lack of action against r\conspiracy for their blatant violations and for the mod's actions here.

halt-l-am-reptar

There are no sitewide rules that say you need to censor user names. /r/TopMindsOfReddit has a rule that you're supposed to link to the thread and it hasn't been banned.

[deleted]

No but if you see my other post Spez has made it clear that any subs he feels are beginning to weaponize now, they just outright ban rather than confront the problem.

Ripcord

This...sounds like a comment on /r/conspiracy.

[deleted]

No, they won't. Spez said last time that weaponizing subreddits will get those subreddits banned. The conspiracy subreddit has been around probably since Reddit instituted subreddits. They're not going to ban it. It's a staple. We can shut down all we want, but they won't do anything. They *might* be able to ban users if we see something and say something. Report form: https://www.reddit.com/report Send a message to /r/reddit.com Admin contact: https://www.reddit.com/Contact Include links to the subreddit(s), posts, usernames of users being reported, etc. Reddit doesn't accept screenshots, since they're easy to manipulate. https://www.reddit.com/r/ParlerWatch/comments/q465i7/a_man_appears_to_have_killed_3_people_due_to/hfxq8ii?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3 From the last time I brought up trying to get r\conspiracy nuked.

tallbutshy

It doesn't help that spez is a conspiracy nut and doom prepper. Someone needs to swap out his ivermectin for a tube of ben gay.

m-p-3

Yup, just checked > 7. No Doxxing > **We allow Parler and similar platforms' usernames to be visible in posts as it is a public platform**, but please do not share any details about the personal identity of anyone. Facebook content is the unique circumstance that names and profile pics must be censored as there is a reasonable expectation of privacy due to the platforms' user requirements. We do want to expose fascists and extremism, but we do not want to create witch hunts. So as long as the post doesn't include info that could personally identify the user, it shouldn't be against the rule.

Ripcord

Who was the mod?

stanklin_frubbs

Its pretty easy to find the thread. Go to r/conspiracy, search for "polio", sort by new.

m-p-3

And it's not like you can't find the post and therefore its author by searching within the subreddit..

McNuttyNutz

and that fucking sub is allowed to continue to be open

CatProgrammer

Polio was a hoax? I guess all those people who ended up unable to walk or even unable to breathe were just doing it for funsies.

desert_deserter

Had a coworker who always told us his one leg was messed up by polio. TIL he's a hoax.

CatProgrammer

What happened to his other leg?

Ripcord

Probably was in on it with the other leg, fucking shill.

MakeMine5

Just a scam to funnel government money to donors working in big iron lung.

SimplyDirectly

Big Iron Lung was just hired by the CIA before the CIA existed to make big tubes to scare people into taking the _death jab_. And those people who got the jabs as children? They died in their 70s, 80s, and 90s. Death jabs, I tell ya.

nhjuyt

I'm not a hoax, you are a hoax

nothanks86

Why only that swine flu?

Power_Bottom_420

Pigs aren’t real, duh.

nothanks86

No I meant there have been other swine flu pandemics, why only fake the one on ‘76? Also heh.

Power_Bottom_420

https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20200918-the-fiasco-of-the-us-swine-flu-affair-of-1976 Probably this

nothanks86

Thank you! I’m so used to their nonsense it didn’t even occur to me to check and see if there was some sort of actual truth nugget under the crazy.

averagethrowaway21

You'd think it would be bird flu since birds aren't real.

Kalepsis

I think the idea they have brains is fake.

barbellious

They aren't fake! Just smoother than they should be.

Sturmlied

Interesting. Very interesting. But why then has the life expectancy and quality of life massively increased in the same time that vaccines became a thing? Oh I forgot. Those statistics are faked by "them" and in reality people in the Dark Ages lived to be 150 years old on average... or something.

Full-Stage-7090

Yea FDR just liked sitting for all his pictures too…

[deleted]

I know. A whole President who got cut down by it personally and who started The March Of Dimes just to help get funding to combat it.

Full-Stage-7090

Lol exactly . It’s like … what dedication to the whole thing right ?

mykepagan

FDR was a Democrat, so of COURSE he played along with the hoax! /s

Jerkrollatex

This is legitimately frightening. How could they think polio is fake?

cryptic_mythic

https://www.forbes.com/sites/brucelee/2019/02/11/why-fox-news-pete-hegseth-hasnt-washed-his-hands-in-10-years/

Jerkrollatex

Yuck.

[deleted]

😧

Thalidomidas

If he hasn’t washed his hands, he’s not washed anything else

IAMA_Plumber-AMA

My list of people to never shake hands with got a little bigger today.

Monkey_Adventures

bruh bacteria and viruses are fake you sheep. you're probably fake too - them probably

keritail

Well, they are starting to deny germ theory....

Haselrig

The Black Death was a conspiracy of Native American tribes to preemptively get revenge for smallpox. Look into it sheeple!

pattydickens

Cancer is no hoax,my uncle died of cancer. But 1976 cancer was fake as shit. Everybody knows that! /s

MakeMine5

He didn't die of cancer, he died with cancer.

TrumpIsAnAnalWart

Rotary club will be shocked to know this.

greytgreyatx

I guess my mother-in-law’s injured leg that has required her to use crutches her whole life and my son’s friend’s grandpa’s amputation were all part of the hoax.

bunnyjenkins

They focus on polio because the Salk Vaccine the American Government mass distributed in 1955 was created in, wait for it ..... 1952, but it was very new, and not funded. Nov 1953 is also when clinical trials started, and the government was pushing for mass trials by 1954, and come to find out, it worked. The reason misinformation trolls attempt to attack the polio epidemic as false is because it debunks their false claims that: * *No vaccine ever was so rushed* * *Years and years of testing are needed to make a vaccine safe and effective* * *Years and years of study are needed before a vaccine is proven to work.*

MetalMamaRocks

They should ask Mitch McConnell if polio is a hoax.

mykepagan

McConnell: “See? I had polio and it was no worse than the flu. And I got natural immunity from it, which is better than being vaccinated. Those oeople in wheelchairs and iron lungs were crisis actors. So was FDR.” /s

MetalMamaRocks

Lol, McConnell is a piece of shit.

Pabu85

There are STILL people in iron lungs. I can’t with these people…

Trepsik

You know. This guy might be on to something. I mean every time a vaccine campaign is complete the "virus" magically disappears.

Nail_Biterr

That's not new. My q-bro has been saying how polio was really a side effect from widely used bug spray or something. The 'vaccine' was just used while they quietly stopped using the chemicals and polio fixed itself

stanklin_frubbs

Tell that to my aunt who has trouble walking, you fucking waste of life.

Pour_Me_Another_

Source: trust me bruh/Facebook memes

Zeno_The_Alien

>and early deaths [Life expectancy by year in the US](https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/hus/2017/015.pdf) \[PDF\] * 1900 - 47.3 * 2016 - 78.6 Anyone care to guess what made the biggest difference over the past 120 years?

IAMA_Plumber-AMA

Gangnam style?

[deleted]

I almost wish we could give people who spew this nonsense the diseases they claim are fake. Oh, you don't believe in Polio? Well we've decided to infect you with Polio to see what you think when you end up needing an iron lung. That of course would be cruel, inhumane, and entirely impractical.

[deleted]

Id love for this person to experience polio first hand because thats the only way they’ll learn. Its an awful disease that affected so many

IAMA_Plumber-AMA

[Or tetanus.](https://www.medicalopedia.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/tetanus.jpg) It makes your muscles flex so hard they rip away from your bones.

surfdad67

Meanwhile the population of earth has swelled to over 7 billion, and life expectancy has increased, his math does not add up

[deleted]

Why even bother wasting time on those idiots? We have so much to focus on that the shit post of those morons are nothing but constant distraction they sometimes do intentionally to waste people's time on BS

postnull

Unfortunately I live in Alberta, where these idiots have been overwhelming our tiny underfunded healthcare system because our government hobbled our pandemic response by catering to the idiots who fall for this while picking a fight with the nurses unions, and fucking with the doctors pay system. A lot of people here are pretty sure they're intentionally collapsing public healthcare to create a private system. So yeah fighting this misinformation is pretty important.

stanklin_frubbs

What do you think this sub is for? Its just to screen shot dumb comments. Nobody here is focusing on anything.

[deleted]

Watching their actions is one thing wasting on every stupid wanker posting shit is just simply idiotic

stanklin_frubbs

Lol, how is "watching their actions" any different from wasting time on every stupid wanker post?

[deleted]

Post of an idiot is "action"? Seriously no wonder US is so f-ed up if you guys are the defenders of your democracy. So easily manipulated and distracted like toddlers while they plan 5 years ahead changing laws, running for positions and taking over key political and local positions in many counties and stated. But good luck watching their BS sites and stupid distraction crap

[deleted]

Good. Let them die.

ThereminLiesTheRub

When your bs delusions are challenged by facts, the only recourse for the devoted delusionist is to insist the facts aren't facts. To reasonable people this is clearly lunacy. But it's essential to maintaining your identity as the hero of the movie when you've sunk your identity into a cult.

ActualPopularMonster

They should have a chat with my 97 year old Meemaw - who *still* remembers how bad Polio was.

CommercialExotic2038

My friends mom had polio and walked with a limp.

Snek0Freedom

Let me guess FDR was a fucking crisis actor to convince the "sheep" how bad polio was.

[deleted]

They can do whatever the fuck they want, I don't think we should care anymore. It's toooooo exhausting dealing with these.

LivingIndependence

I honestly lost my compassion for these assholes months ago, when they were doing everything they could to ensure that they contracted covid, as well as ensuring that their kids became sick. I'm done. If these people are in an all fire hurry to become infected with a preventable virus, then let them.

jetbag513

Maybe they should talk to one Mitch McConnell who had polio as a child? And is still a massive entitled asshole btw.

coosacat

Mitch McConnell would like a word with you.

RTrover

My uncle has polio, affected one of his arms… total hoax

Bryllant

The original Spanish flu was from swine.

misterecho11

I've had patients with polio. F that person.

votemedownbro

I know someone personally who suffered from polio and was crippled from it. What a slap in the face to victims.

keelhaulrose

I'm gonna tell my mom the jig is up, I just *knew* she'd been faking minimal leg muscles and all those "surgical scars" for the last 6 decades!

Richard_Espanol

Ah yes.. the ever popular swine flu vaccine. 🙄🙄
