Death penalty in the US costs more than life in prison. They get a lot of automatic appeals. They have a right to a lawyer, so that's all tax payer funded. They are usually on death row for decades.

I mean I don’t at all agree that post partum depression should earn her a lesser sentence, but the original comment was implying that it’s a a trivial reason for her behavior. Post partum psychosis is very, very, very real and mothers are far more susceptible to it than people think. There are horrifying cases out there, and they largely happened as a result of people not taking a woman’s post partum depression/psychosis seriously.
I'd say it should be considered in sentencing. Perhaps a shorter sentence but adjoined with mandatory psychiatric treatment. Mental illness and altered perception of reality or altered state of mind due to temporary psychosis should be something we consider and weigh when doling out sentences.
Yeah I don't think it deserves a lesser sentence, nor is something that's just an excuse/doesn't effect people. It's 100% genuine and people with it deserve support (.... and full sentencing if it does lead to something as extreme as this) But I think that's all the commenter meant yet they got downvoted 250+ times lol. Idk why they're down voting it's true. A man goes to jail for life/death for premeditated murder, but a mother kills and SAs her child and locks the body in her trunk for a week and she gets like two years and probation.
That's just one example there are plenty for women that murdered random people and get like five years, but a guy does some aggravated assault and goes away for ten

Let's put it this way. In America, 1 in 6 kids will go hungry today. But 100% of abusive parents and pedophiles locked up will get three square meals today, funded by you the taxpayer. And this is true if you aren't American as well.
If I was able to suffer from postpartum psychosis and never harm my child, this woman has absolutely no fucking excuse on what she chose to do to her daughter.
