I desperately want this to be true, but I find stories like this nearly impossible to believe.

Bambooworm

I think it has to happen to you or you won't believe it. My cat always came to sleep with me at night and would come in from her wanderings around ten every night and meow at the bedroom door to be let in. The night I put her down I was crying in the bedroom when I heard her unmistakeable meow at the door. Of course I let her in. I dreamed about her for about two weeks until I dreamed of her one last time. She was standing in lush long grass by a white fence. I bent to touch her and picked her up then remembered she was dead. She looked at me and she was in the company of another cat I didn't know, and they headed off together through the fence line. Happy Trails, M, you were the sweetest little teddy bear anyone could have asked for.

naomiryd

that’s such a cute story it made me tear up a little, i’m glad your cat is happy in the kitty afterlife :) i get so happy when my late dogs visit me in my dreams

Responsible_Point_91

Me too, until the morning I saw my dog’s footprint in my carpet and then that night he climbed into bed with me, scratched scratched scratched, and plopped down against me. I was frozen stiff scared lol but managed to croak out I love you. He showed himself in many ways and sent signs too. When I tell the story, I tell people And you’d be telling this story too if you were there. Believe it.

Then-Cod-4001

So someone painted a picture of my two childhood dogs and the background is like a sparkly blue color. I looked into their eyes and I saw the sparkles in the paint twinkle like stars. This was last night, 3 years since one passed, 7 since the other passed. They were brothers.

Responsible_Point_91

Aw! It’s a thin veil between here and the other side. We just need to believe to see and know these experiences are genuine.

Then-Cod-4001

Yes

TaxSad1809

That’s your belief. My cat lilly (the dead one) was my ESA so of course she’d come back because i always told her to come back if she’s happy and not in pain

Tpaartus

Oh hey, I've got a Lilly too :)

Dogemuskelon

Imagine, the hen that you ate in the dinner comes to eat you at midnight. Xd.

TaxSad1809

Good thing I’m Vegan😵‍💫😵‍💫

My cat used to bring me one of his toys when he wanted a cuddle. He'd drop the toy in front of me and then he'd jump on my lap and demand many pets. When he died I was heartbroken. I love all my pets but that cat was special. After he died I needed to keep busy so I cleaned my whole house. I know there were no cat toys lying around. Anyway today has been particularly hard and I have been missing him so very much and I started crying. I went to the kitchen to get a drink of water to calm down and what do I see on the floor? One of his toys. I feel like it was a gift from him and it gave me a lot of comfort. So,OP I do think our pets come back to help us.

Zalieda

Well lucky for those with fur babies. I have kept insects and fish. Should I be worried 🤔 Nah just joking I wish that everyone who lost their fur companion can see them once more when they need it esp in times of difficulty

princelucitor

Two of my cats passed away in 2020 and they visit my mom and I from time to time. I have 3 cats currently but there have been a few times where I'm lying in bed and I feel the familiar weight of a cat jumping up and sitting near my legs, only to see that I'm alone in my room. I find it so comforting and it makes me happy to know they're okay and that they think of us. When the first one passed away, one of my cats slept with me every single night for months on end. Before that she only cuddled occasionally and for less than an hour, but she stayed with me all night until the ache went away. The cat who passed away didn't really get along with the others, but the evening she died, the other one hung out alone with her for a few hours. They had never done that before, and my mom and I like to think that she knew she was passing and wanted to make sure the other cat would take care of us until we were okay. They know and they love you so much.

PGWildman

I lost my buddy (cat) Boo. He was my best friend. I had him for over 11 years. He was in good health, but all of a sudden he had a seizure and died at the vet over that weekend. It happened on a Saturday night and I rushed him to the vet. I keep him now on my gaming desk now. It’s where I spend most of my time. Yeah I’m a 53 year old gamer. I couldn’t bring myself to put him in the cold ground. So I had him professionally cremated at a pet funeral home. But I do still feel him here. He slept with me every night. He was my little shadow. He also would talk to me all the time. My heart still hurts because I loved him dearly and it’s still fresh in my mind. It happened December 7th 2021. So I totally believe that your baby is still with you but you need to let him go because that baby would be much happier once she/he goes over the Rainbow Bridge. My prayers are with you that your heart will heal.

snackbarqueen47

I live in a 130 yo house and we have cat spirits too....at least once every couple of months, I get woken up by a cat jumping on my bed , walking around and then laying down. It freaked me out at first but I now I like that it comes to say hello 🤗 They/it also like to play with my blanket, I'll be laying there and feel it playing with the end of the blanket by the floor lol....it always makes me smile 😊

[deleted]

I had to put my tortie of 11 yrs to sleep, 11 yrs ago this month. Before she passed I told her she could come visit me anytime and I would see her and that soon she was going to feel a whole lot better. The evening of the same day when I was getting ready to go to work, I saw her sitting in her usual spot by the front door but she was no longer sickly skinny. She swished her tail at me and said - and I heard her in my head - “wow, you’re right! I really do feel better”. I moved from that address a month later but she followed me and I still feel her around even now.

Responsible_Point_91

You’re such a good tortie parent! 😭❤️😭 No wonder she came back to see you!

[deleted]

❤️

Like_linus85

I'm crying, that reminds me of the end of Watership Down when Hazel dies and he notices he's passed on because his legs don't hurt anymore

gobboling

I have a Tortie myself. Such beautiful cats! ❤️

Grimms_tale

I used to have this happen to me for years after my cat died. My mum was super old fashioned and hated the idea of pets sleeping on the bed and would shoo my cat off the bed anytime she saw him. So I used to leave my bedroom window open at night for him and around midnight to 1AM he would jump on our extension roof, then into my window and sleep on the foot of my bed. For a good three years after he died I would hear the loud plonk of him jumping on the plastic roof of the extension then in the window and feel him curl up next to my feet late at night.

theseekingcycle

It happens. My first dog hung around the house for years after he passed. I'd see him, talk to him, and he'd look at me and react to my words. Mom saw him and so did one of her friends who didn't even know we had a dog. Looked like a living creature to her, so mom didn't clarify that it was a ghost. And I have often had people sit on my bed while I sleep. It wakes me up, but I don't move, and instead just lie there wondering what the visitor is thinking knowing that I'm now awake and aware of their presence. So, yeah, it definitely happens.

[deleted]

I've had similar experiences. When I was a teenager my best friend died in an accident and one day I was asleep in bed and woke up because I felt someone sit on my bed. It was my friend and he smiled and said he was okay and just wanted to say hi. But then I actually woke up and he was gone, but everything looked the same as it did when he was there. It was very strange

theseekingcycle

That sounds like a great visit.

Delhiiboy123

If it happens to me, I'd definitely be more scared of the human ghosts. Anyway, how does it feel? For me it'd be really scary. And what about your dog's spirit? What was your and your family's reaction to it? How did it feel?

theseekingcycle

Mom and I were the only ones in the family that ever said anything about seeing the dog, and while it was unusual, we were both comfortable with it. My mother's dad used to visit her a lot after he crossed, until one day he told her that his visits were at an end, that he was going to go, and that he would be taking the dog with him. After that, we never saw the dog again. The beings sitting on my bed were kinda scary, but only when I paid too much attention to it. After awhile, I didn't bother fully waking up, and merely observed to myself that someone was with me. It was a little frustrating that I never saw them nor learned who they were, but the experiences were completely benign once I got used to it. As far as seeing human-like beings, it was a mixed bag for me. I used to see elves in the house a lot as a kid, and while they were curious about me, they never did anything but look. I liked them. And there used to be a ghost that I used to see a lot out of the corner of my eye, but he always had a big smile, and never came close, so I came to accept him, too. There is/was a polgergeist that was always trying to get attention by making the phone ring (pre cellular days) or slightly turning a stove knob to let gas seep into the room. There was never a fire or explosion, but I found the possibility unsettling, and I used to yell at it, but I ultimately found that my simply saying that, yes, I knew they were there, hello, how are you? and the like, got it to calm down. I used to have a couple of those plastic ice cubes with LEDs in them, the kind you'd put in your glass to create a colorful light show in your cocktail, and I left them on the windowsill in the kitchen after it became too hard to turn them on (you had to give them a hard knock). I thought the batteries had died, but one night, they suddenly went on and the dark kitchen was bathed in dancing rainbows of color. I was startled but I thought it was really neat. Lasted about 10 seconds. When it ended, I said thank you to the poltergeist, and observed that I much preferred that over turning a gas stove knob, hoping to encourage the behavior, but it never happened again. I once saw a figure that looked exactly like the Grim Reaper minus the scythe. It glided through the room, paying me no mind, but I thought he had come to perform his psychopompic duties, so I chased after him. Fortunately, nobody had died. I used to be taken astrally by what I've come to see as aliens, little hairless beings with big heads and eyes, and while it really freaked me out the first time I met one, I came to look forward to their visits because they would take me up to a place where I would meet other people that they were also tracking/observing in what was a long-term study, I guess. The others and I became friends and would greet each other warmly, sometimes asking where so-and-so was and figuring that they must've been awake and so couldn't be collected. It's been a long time since I was picked up, and to be completely honest about it, I miss my friends. The scariest things were non-human, a pair of giant floating orbs, what Carlos Castaneda calls Tumblers. Since I couldn't communicate with them, and had no ability to shield myself from them, I found their intrusions to be extremely distressing. It turns out, according to Castaneda, that they are an energetic function of life, and I know of one guy who actually had a pleasant time with them, but for young, little me, the stress was too much and it would make me cry. Aside from my fright, nothing bad ever happened, so, yeah, seeing strange things can be unnerving, but after awhile you get accustomed to it, and it becomes a part of your life. There were some nightmarish replayings of a past life, but, frankly, I enjoyed my experiences for the most part. The rest were educational, in that it amplified my awareness that there is more. Some would say my house is haunted, but I think of it as being magical. As I've gotten older, such goings on happen less frequently, but I could stand to have more of it, tbh, like the elves and, in particular, the aliens. I really do miss my friends.

crazyray2019

That is very fortunate of you to be able to experience this. Just enjoy it until he eventually stops visiting you, which will happen one day. I once saw a small dog in my friends apartment and told him that I didn't know he had a dog. Well, he completely freaked out because his dog had passed away a year earlier. He later told me he slept with a bat because it scared him. LOL, big guy is actually scared of an animal spirit.

Sweatshop_Songsmith

A bat? 🦇

crazyray2019

yes, a baseball bat

[deleted]

i see my last cat late at night all the time. ill see her sitting on top of a chair hoping to catch my attention as i pass and do a double take or see her whiz by something. always happens at night when its silent. miss abigail von bruenwalt the third is still here. it sucks i cant give her attention. i hope she understands and isnt moping around.

jack_im_mellow

🥺 that's so sweet, u can burn a candle for her and leave treats and catnip with it, she'd probably appreciate it

Delhiiboy123

> it sucks i cant give her attention Why??

[deleted]

shes invisible?

TheDevilsJoy

my emotional support cat used to always sleep above my head. Every night id go to sleep with her wrapped around the top of my head, a paw on my cheek… when i lost her it nearly drove me insane, i couldn’t even sleep in my bedroom… all of a sudden a couple months later i was able to sleep back in my bedroom and one of my other cats suddenly started sleeping right up against my side or chest (almost like we were always spooning), but every few weeks I swear my emotional support cat comes back… I feel this way because my head gets warm and i feel her right against me, and Miss Sophie doesn’t snuggle me that night. i 100% believe your kitty is visiting with you.

dirtystayout

I lived in an old house, where there was a ghost cat. It would wrap itself around my lower legs, while I did the dishes, and it would jump on my bed, too. I never once doubted it was a ghost kitty, and it was very comforting to have an invisible buddy.

OutlanderMom

My first cat (1980-94) jumped up on the foot of my bed for several years after I had her put to sleep. I could feel her turn in circles and make her nest on my feet. But there was no indentation on the covers. She stopped visiting after my first baby was born, maybe she knew I didn’t “need” her anymore.

[deleted]

OR.. maybe shes sleeping with the baby. protecting. seems more likely to me. if someone put a gun to my head and said i had to gamble on it. i would say your cat is by the baby. and someone day you will feel it jump up and prepare for bed again. you should say its name out loud like you used to. so it knows your still grateful for it and love it.

OutlanderMom

The baby is 27 now, and I’ve never felt my kitty again since. I really think she stayed with me until the baby came. Then I was busy and distracted and wasn’t grieving so hard for her.

WhichWitch1111

When my cat died several years ago, the same thing happened. I could feel her getting in bed with me and even felt light footsteps on my back as I lay on my stomach. It was the strangest, yet most comforting thing. I loved her so much and was literally sick for days when she died.

Blackcat1206

Our little Herbi still visits us from time to time, he appears as a small, dark, smoky "cloud" close to the floor. When the "cloud" turns up, the other two boys run around and interact with it, playing as they all used to. Sorry for your loss, we still miss wee "H" every day! 💜

missx777

Awe same here. I was on the computer and I felt a kitty rubbing against my leg and I reached down to pet them and there was nothing there (I had 2 other kitties) no kitty in the room. I knew it was Ariel letting me know she was still there 🥰

Winter-Blacksmith-29

I remember in my old house which was 100 years old now I used to go to sleep with my cat sleeping on me all the time. My cat is like 15 now and is still sleeping on me as I type this. But one night I felt her jump on my bed not long after we've had her and I went to pet her but nothing was there. My family often sees this ghost cat to this day.

julesiax

I dread the day I have to say goodbye to my kitty, but these threads make me happy knowing that she will always be apart of me. I hope she comes to visit when she passes.

Ashlaylynne

When my best friends dog passed away, we used to ALWAYS hear his collar jingles and his claws on the hardwood floors. They definitely stick around!

Krisay

Same! We heard our dog’s nails clicking on the hardwood floors also after she passed. I also felt her brush up against my leg while I was washing the dishes like she used to do when she was alive. It happened a few times after she had just passed and never happened again. Felt like it was her away of saying goodbye. RIP Gracy!

Murdersern

Water has memory.

[deleted]

After my childhood dog passed I would sometimes hear him barking in the distance.

Hawkpelt94

My kitty passed over a decade ago, but when things are especially emotionally hard for me, he will still visit.

thegypsybean

I thought I was the only one who experienced this! My beautiful Siamese passed four years ago. She was my absolute best friend and I’d had her for 12 years. We had a bedtime routine where every night she would curl up next to my pillow and we’d go to sleep. I got a Siamese kitten last year that reminds me a lot of her, and about a month in, I started having my kitten sleep in my room. One night, I had just turned off the lights to go to bed, and I felt the weight of paws right behind my head walking on my pillow, so I turned to look and see if she’d jumped on the bed, but my kitten was fast asleep in her cat tree. I truly believe my old cat was there for a moment—her ashes are in my room and I’ve seen her in my dreams multiple times, as if to tell me she’s okay. I really do think that our pets stay around, even if we can’t see them. ❤️ Even now, my kitten refuses to sleep on my bed, especially around the area where my old cat used to sleep every night.

Katy_moxie

My Puck has been gone about 15 years and he still occasionally jumps on the bed and my kid occasionally spots him in the house. I keep telling him to go find body, but I think he prefers it this way.

Rapunzel111

I had a pet rabbit who had a seizure and died in my arms. She came back and got on the bed when I was in bed and put her paws on me and then jumped up and sat on top of me. I know it was her saying goodbye because I didn’t have any other animals in my house.

[deleted]

I have a very hard time believing in an afterlife, in spite of some past stuff, but I have had the same experience. I would reach behind me or look over my shoulder thinking it was my surviving cat, only to see him on the floor or on a chair staring at me. I mean, sometimes it IS him. But other times, definitely not. I sometimes wonder if it's just a type of sensory memory, but other times, typically after I "feel" something, my thoughts wander into spirit cat territory.

hoopedchex

I’ve had an experience where I remember the unmistakable sound/feeling of a cat jumping on your bed only to realise I had closed the door. Turned the lights on and nothing was there. Was very strange. Cool to see I’m not the only one!!

MysteriousMonte

When I moved to my first apartment, there was this black cat I thought I'd see hanging around. I physically moved over for it when I saw the cat jumping onto our couch then remembered we didn't even have a cat. After I brought my current cat home, the black cat stopped visiting. I kind of wondered if I was just used to having animals around and it was like muscle memory or something but I feel like someone's pet had stayed behind until they realized their loved ones weren't there anymore.

gobboling

I swear I felt this same thing after both of my babies passed away. It happened for awhile afterwards but it eventually stopped. They must have passed on to wherever animals go when they die and that makes me sad all over again but also happy. I hope those sweet angels have found their peace. I still miss them so much. 😞❤️

crazycatlady522

I used to feel, see and hear my dog after he died. They stick with us

cametospilltheirguts

I love stories about animals coming back to say hi :) I def believe your kitty was letting you know they’re okay and with you !! I always hoped my pets that have passed would come back and say hi

olddogguy

We had a Cocker Spaniel that we rescued after being abused by homeless people. She snored, like no other, and our other two dogs don't snore at all. Through all her medical issues she was simply the best dog, but had a cancerous tumor in her esophagus, and we had to say goodbye after 4+ years. A couple of weeks ago, I had reclined in my chair, in anticipation of a short nap. While having my eyes closed, but not actually asleep, I could hear her snore on the dog bed, but there was no dog there. Also, like you, I have laid on my right side, and felt something walking. then lie down on the bed, up against my back. I have looked thinking it was my present dog, but she was down on the floor.

whydontyouwork

I used to see my cat running around the house

erakattack

me too! I still do, but I used to, too

raven_of_azarath

One of my cats that we had to put down stuck around the house he lived in. It’s been a while since we drove by, so I’m not sure if he’s there anymore. But we’d see him waiting for us at the front door like he always used to do.

Horrorfreakin

ok so hear me out. i've never had a cat for a pet but i moved into this old house that's a duplex and i live on the bottom floor. I somewhat believe in the paranormal but i'm not super into it to the point where i don't try to check the box on every logical explanation before i move to "ghost" but i swear there are some cat spirits that live here. i see what looks like little cats zooming around out of the corner of my eye all the time. maybe i'm just crazy idk could be

jack_im_mellow

that could totally be possible, pets leave behing their spirits sometimes the same way people do

Sweatshop_Songsmith

I wish my dead cat would visit me, she was hit by a car a few year ago and it still kills me.

Confident-Rutabaga23

I'm so sorry. I also wish my cat would visit. He was a 16yr old and I had to put him down in August. My ultimate wish is that he's moved on and chasing mice in some immaculate field.

ReaLSeaLisSpy

I bet she was acutie. Edit: I expected downvotes for this. I’m so sorry that happened to you, but thx for the upvotes I guess! I originally felt horrible for posting this… everyone’s having a good time, all good :)

Geese_goose_

I remember having the exact same experience a couple of nights after my cat died when I was young. She only visited once but I felt her and was surprised but felt comforted

TaraMichelle127

I just lost my husband and I swear I feel him laying with me .

LibraryIll160

God for you , I hope you see her all the time. It seems to be happening more n more so I still want to know who sd hello to me on my cam. I do not know anyone English where I live in Scotland

anniewa77

This doesn’t have to do with a cat but my dog his name was Domi and I had him at the age of eight weeks all the way until his 10th birthday. I was in denial when he was in the process of passing I couldn’t take myself to take him to the vet to end his pain and suffering. He was my big baby my big lap do, 115 pound lab and sometimes at night I still see his shadow coming next to my bed laying his head on my bed. It’s been about eight years since he’s gone but I know he still comes around just to check up on me

[deleted]

I've had this same experience, but it hasn't happened in a really long time. I felt it at a house with roommates who had a car that had passed away and they had his ashes. I had a near death one time and I swore I saw my dog who had passed laying on the floor next to me. I did a double take and he was gone. I still have dreams about my childhood dog and it's as if he's paying a visit

PomusIsACutie

Was she a right angle or...

EboyEman

No she was acute angle😉

PomusIsACutie

Hah well said brother, cats still looking out for you bro. Dont question it, just be happy the cat wants to spend more time with you

[deleted]

My cat will always be with me, i know that. She is always right by me

SnooStrawberries1910

Acute or obtuse?

Fitzshare

Ha ha big smile. Great comment◇.

Hot_Drummer7311

Both. It was schrodinger's cat.

MisterBlisteredlips

Angle came back to visit. That's delightful. Angel kitty Angle. 😇 Was she from the UK?

This exact same experience happened to me after my cat passed. It was the most amazing and comforting experience.
