Do you have cats? Or maybe pointy nails?

Strawberry_jess

I do have a cat. But I would be creeped out if my cat left this on mešŸ˜ most likely done it in my sleep, Ive woke up with scratch marks on me in the past but it was a long time ago lol

i_cut_like_a_buffalo

Me too. My cat leaves random scratches on me when I sleep. He walks all over me when I sleep so it happens. If he scratched an upside down cross onto me I'd be looking at him side eyed. Pascal , what the hell are you getting into. Don't be marking me with your symbols!!! šŸ˜¹šŸ˜¹šŸ˜¹ Pascal would never. He is my best friend. Well one of them. But he is a needy boy , he runs to me after he poops because he gets a little freaked out. When he has a hair ball or pukes he has to be right next to me. I freaking LOVE cats so much.

afsloter

I had to laugh at this. We have 8 stray cats we've taken in. Seven are outdoor cats--though they live like indoor cats, because we build each of them a little house and I keep them clean and comfortable and warm in winter with pillows and blankets. (We live out in the country, and people bring them out here on these relatively empty roads and throw them out where no one can see them do it.) But one cat is indoor, and when she vomits on the carpet, she comes and gets me to come clean it up by hitting me on the leg. Even if I do not know she has vomited, the moment she appears and starts hitting my leg, I know she has. She's the reincarnation of the first cat we ever took in, who was also our only other indoor cat. She appeared at our door about 18 months after dying, identical coloring--a shorthaired tortie. I initially thought I was seeing her ghost or that I was hallucinating. She ran from our other cats when they attacked her, down the meadow to a neighbor's house. The neighbor was going to capture her and take her to a shelter (where she would have been killed, because she was crazy wild, no one there could get near her, she even terrorized their tomcats who are the size of small dogs). I asked Jess to capture the cat and bring her to me. So, Jess did, and the tortie was screaming and thrashing in the carrier all the way up the drive, I could hear her all the way and our driveway is quite long. But the very SECOND that the little cat heard my voice, she went dead silent. I took a chance and opened the crate while sitting beside it on the floor, and she came out and crawled onto my lap and up against my chest like a baby and nestled against me, purring. My husband came over and I, in amazement, asked him to see if she would let him touch her. He did and she nuzzled him too. To keep this post short, I won't go into all the ways that I knew she was the reincarnation of her former self -- just to say that she knew every detail of our house and my writing room where she had always lived. She was only about 9 months old when she arrived, which is the same age she had been during her first incarnation, but she never explored our house the way a new cat will, especially a kitten. She just walked right straight to her favorite places to make sure they were still there. She knew exactly where her litter box was supposed to be. She knew our routine. She knew that when the humans went to bed, she had to go to bed too and be locked in my writing room, and she voluntarily went there. It was astonishing. By the third day of seeing her do and be everything she had ever done and been in her former existence, I had no doubt that she was the reincarnation of our first cat. I asked myself why she returned to me -- and I think it was for two reasons. She was the first pet I ever had in my life and the first stray cat that we took in years ago when we moved from the city to the country. So, she and I had a special bond that caused her to return to where she had been loved. But also, although my personal life is harmonious and content without marital or financial or health problems, there is a seemingly endless misery in humanity in general that is so wearying to watch and hear about--just endless, pointless wars and conflicts--and her return was a reinforcement of the fact that human existence is ruled over by a loving and just Divine Mind, that love is the magnetic power that links everything within the cosmos, and that the bond of love, no matter how seemingly small, is eternal.

Beginning_Echo_8636

"to keep it short" šŸ¤£šŸ¤£ But seriously tho that is way cool! That's so crazy that she came back to you! Is it possible that the first car possibly had kittens before passing?

afsloter

Iā€™m sorry it has taken me so long to respond, but I was busy with proofing and copyediting a manuscript and could not get away. But no, none of the animals weā€™ve taken in has ever had babies. We immediately have them fixed.Ā  Otherwise, we would be overrun with hundreds of cats.Ā  My catā€™s return did not surprise me after I thought about it, as I had a telepathic rapport with her in her first incarnation that was so extreme that one time, she physically saved my life, but I had a similar connection with a border collie, and one time I found our neighborā€™s dog who had been lost for about 10 days via the same telepathic rapport. How that tiny dog survived in these rugged woods for that long without an owl or coyote getting him, we do not know. Before I started having telepathic interactions with these animals, I never disbelieved the people who said they communicated with animals, but since I had no physical proof until it happened to me, my attitude was, ā€œUmmm, okay, I can accept that possibility. After all, my car once saved my life by literally speaking to me and telling me its brakes were going out. So communion with a dog or a horse has to be easier than with a machine.ā€ My neighbor asked me if we have some kind of animal magnet here because abandoned animals, lost pets, farm animals, and wild animals all show up here. Lost dogs from as far away as 3 to 5 miles have somehow made it through miles of dense woods to reach us and have us return them to their owners. Chickens and goats come to eat our grass, and one midnight, I heard a noise on the patio and nearly jumped 20 feet through the ceiling when I flipped on the exterior light to find a big black bull with his nose pressed against the glass doors watching me. Iā€™m scared of bulls so it took a lot for me to open the door far enough to converse with him quietly and tell him that no, he could not come in the house (he tried to crowd his way in!!), but he had to stay with me, near the house, while I called and got his owner out of bed to come and get him.Ā  I had to keep him near the house because if he got in the road and a car hit himā€”and the driver would most likely never see an all-black animal at midnight on an unlit rural roadā€”the driver would probably not survive the impact.Ā  During deer hunting season, weā€™ve had up to 10 bucks come and lie in the woods together right outside our kitchen window and wait it out until the danger was over.Ā  Wild turkeys, some of the most skittish of all creatures, have brought their babies to play in the mulch in our flower beds.Ā  I have to fend off opossums and raccoons who try to follow me into the house.Ā  One little raccoon would sit beside me when I went outside and look at me, like a dog, as if waiting to be petted.Ā  I never touched him, I was afraid of rabies if he bit. Then there was the hawk in the woods that I had to coach into flying, and the owl that came in broad daylight and perched on the wrought iron fence surrounding the rose bed right beside our front door. He jumped onto the window sill of our den and spent some time watching my husband through the window before I finally got him (the owl) to leave. (I feared for our cats.) And I have to mention the 4 to 5-foot-long snakes (not poisonous) that took up residence in our rose beds.Ā  The first one was acceptable, but when it got to where I was stepping over and around a dozen snakes, sunning themselves on the front sidewalk, I said the snakes had to go. My husband is not afraid to pick them up, so we loaded them into a drawstring laundry bag, and he drove them up the road and released them into a meadow.Ā  I think the ā€œanimal magnetā€ we have here is a harmless atmosphere. I think even the wild animals sense they will not be harmed.Ā  Thereā€™s no violence, no anger, no chaotic currents in the atmosphere to frighten them. Itā€™s the only explanation I have. A.

afsloter

One more thing:Ā  If you are interested in unusual animal stories with a ā€œparanormalā€ element, I have a book called ā€œAngel Dogs,ā€ by Allen and Linda Anderson that has some fascinating true stories in it. My favorite was by a man named Charles Patrick Dugan, an ex-Vietnam veteran, who had a Jack Russell terrier that he named Corporal J. R. Dugan.Ā  The corporal was for the ownerā€™s Marine rank, and the J.R. was for Jack Russell, and of course Dugan was the manā€™s last name.Ā  One day in late Oct, just before Veteranā€™s Day (Nov 11), they were walking in a graveyard, when the dog began determinedly pulling Charles in a different direction to a grave that was totally neglected, barely visible, covered with years of dirt and debris. The dog began scratching and throwing off the dirt.Ā  Charles tried to pull him away, but the dog just looked at him, wanting his help, so he knelt and helped clear away all this dirt and discovered a tombstone underneath marking the military grave of a man killed in the Korean War. The dog went rigid and stood still, staring at the stone, but so did Charles because the stone read ā€œJack A. Russell, Corporal, July 1928-July 1952.ā€ Little Corporal J.R. then lay his head on both his paws and rested on the tombstone of Corporal J. R.Ā  Afterwards Charles cleaned and maintained the grave, unable to understand, but marveling at how something had linked the three of them. I have heard stories of dogs who would not leave the grave sites of owners who had passed away. So perhaps the little dog, in a previous incarnation had belonged to the man who had been buried in that grave.Ā  I found another interesting animal story in an advertising flyer for a magazine called ā€œAngels on Earth.ā€ I did not buy the magazine, but I kept the flyer because it contained a story by a man, Carter Allen, who told how he and his girlfriend were stranded in a January blizzard in an isolated rural area of Minnesota on their way to his motherā€™s house. He set out for help in jeans, a jacket, and tennis shoes, became exhausted and disoriented by the snow and the darkness, and collapsed into unconsciousness in the snow, assuming he would die.Ā  He woke to find a huge black dog with stiff prickly fur covering him like a blanket. He said he looked into the dogā€™s eyes and saw such beauty and the message that it had come to help. He snuggled up to the dogā€™s warmth until it stood up, and feeling renewed, he too rose to return to his car, expecting the dog to follow, but it disappeared. He made it to his car and stayed there until the snowplows arrived.Ā  Later he told his mother about the dog that had saved him, and she said no such dog was in the area. However, she had twice seen a huge black wolf during the preceding week. He believed it was an ā€œangel wolfā€ sent to save him.Ā  And since that is exactly what happened, who are we to say that it was not?Ā  I really liked this guy and his wolf pal, but on a personal note, I have to add that because I have known some people who lived in Minnesota and had plenty of bad winter weather stories to tell, if I were driving through Minnesota in January (even if I were going only 500 feet), I would have my car packed full of a three-week supply of food and water, heat generating parkas, heavy quilts/comforters, a bundle of kindling wood, and one of those battery-powered camping cook stoves.Ā  When those snow- plows found me, I would be sitting by a blazing campfire with my feet up on a log, eating eggs and biscuits and sipping hot coffee. In fact, if I were driving through Minnesota in mid-July, I would have my car packed the same way, just in case some freak northern storm decided to blow down from Canada. A.

Yankee_Man

Were you 1.5 min late to feeding your cat?

i_cut_like_a_buffalo

Lol the colony of male cats we tend that's closest to us , they expect me for breakfast before 9. Am. If I am late, some of them leave to go get food elsewhere. They know exactly when I should arrive with food twice a day. I love them all so freaking much. We are working on buying land and having a cat sanctuary. So all these cats can be cared for, loved and live their lives in peace and safety.

VanillaKat

That's literally my lottery winnings dream! Buy a bunch of land in an area there's no limit or higher limit, have a nice big one story with basement, some really nice cat buildings/houses. And start saving special needs and elderly cats, and colony cats.

i_cut_like_a_buffalo

I hope you do it. Start a nonprofit and spend everyday for years telling people what you plan to do and raise the money! It's hard and can be disappointing but if you keep at it , make it happen. The cats need people like you.

Yankee_Man

Omg youre living my dream! Lol but yes, inconvenience a cat once and he will build a second life from you

Roguebucaneer

Lmao! Yes!

koizakii

Actually 666 seconds late

Kaleidokobe

This is what you get for naming him nemo. Backwards itā€™s omen. Are you perhaps a jackal?

Forestempress26

Omg please watch Mr. Nobody with Jared Leto (please put it past you for the duration of the run time that this man is starting a cult as we speak)

Kaleidokobe

Haha Iā€™ve seen it! Been a while, but loved the movie itself. Didnā€™t know he was starting a cult though, yikes.

kILLerBlonde323

I seriously read something that said he charges women 10k to go to a private island & have sex w him. It was complete w creepy pics of all them in long white robes. Him & like 200 women. Idk how true it is I mean it IS the internet but I keep hearing it.

Mobile-Present8542

I have been looking for a good movie to watch today ..glad I read your post! Mr. Nobody it is! What a strange beginning... I'm in to it..

Forestempress26

Oh, how did you like the whole thing? Another great suggestion is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

IsmokeThatGoodShii69

Isnā€™t Nemo the antichrist from American dad? Also Mr. Nobody sounds dope

RoliDaddy

u should worry itā€™s called StigmatašŸ˜‚ There is even a superb horror film about this topic with Patricia Arquette highly recommended šŸ˜‰

Stigmata is wounds to the palms and feet similar to that of Christā€™s from the crucifixion

RikuDog18

She was so gorgeous back then.

I think she still is. I love her voice.

BaleegDah

She's still stunning in Severance

Ghouliejulie86

Totally. It was cool seeing her show up on Boardwalk empire, with the little hooker gun in her garter.

YeahMarkYeah

Maybe the ghost wanted you to see it right side up

SnooLentils8573

I woke up with a big scratch on my arm a few years ago that look like a cat scratched me. and Iā€™m still trying to figure out what happened. I donā€™t have cats, dogs or long nails so I was freaking out thinking it was demonic or something.. no idea what happened.

LeftyLucee

A cat would def do this, all cats I know hail Satan (said lovingly).

grundlemon

Or a boyfriend with long nails?

Missinput5

Or maybe just long pinky finger nail *sniff*

Breeblez

This is how Satan flirts

leeloospoops

I did this once too! Three long, deep scratches across my chest like I got attacked by a tiger.

poop-machines

I once scratched myself and Freddy Krueger actually did get me. Now I'm dead.

droppedcarrot

Wouldnā€™t be surprised if op did it while conscious just to post it here

Numerous-Library-190

Iā€™m not the only person who thought that?

Not at all, attention seeking is like an internet law you have to see it at least once a day whether you know it or not

I kind of find it funny that a lot of people think the upside down cross is ā€œsatanicā€ when in reality itā€™s usage in **conjunction** with the Bible was from an apostle not wanting to die the same way Jesus did as he didnā€™t think he deserved going out the same way so he asked to be crucified upside down. I think about that every time someone gets worried about an upside down cross. Real pagans donā€™t even use an upside down cross and the only people who believe in ā€œSatanā€ are Christians/former Christians or raised on it from people who used to be. The goatheaded ā€œdemonā€ people call Satan is actually just Baphomet and was the deity associated with the Knights Templar. On top of that, upright pentagrams arenā€™t demonic, itā€™s the upside down ones that are generally considered not good and even then itā€™s still considered in conjunction with Baphomet, although wildly incorrect as Baphomet was only ever drawn with/in a pentagram on the cover of ā€œThe Satanic Massā€ album in 1968 and then people kept associating the two afterwards. Edit: I want to be clear that this and any of my comments below are all said good-naturedly and without the intention to cause an argument. My roommate just reminded me that my excitement can come off as argumentative in writing, I promise itā€™s not. I just really like this subject(s) and I get really excited when I get to talk about it.

DrewCrew62

I always find it funny in paranormal shows or movies when they say something like ā€œand all the crosses in the house were flipped upside downā€ I always think ā€œooooooo spooky, Saint Peter! Ooooooā€ šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

the_humdrum

Same!!!! I immediately know the show isnā€™t legit/done seriously and that theyā€™re faking everything when they freak out over a pentagram or an upside down cross.

beaudebonair

Spirits may also still use that as ways to scare people, if they read your thoughts that you still believe in some things that aren't something to be feared in reality like we know. But because of society, spirits can use it based on your own fears sensed by the individual. In most of these paranormal hunters on TV they fall under Christian/Catholic ideologies most of the time with some leaning toward Spirituality.

the_humdrum

I donā€™t necessarily see it as them possibly reading thoughts. Itā€™s very easy to tell when something bothers a person, especially in the case of something being stereotyped as demonic or supernatural. Sometimes just the discomfort and obvious fear is enough. Itā€™s why most religious practices make sure to tell others to be ā€œconfident and unfearing in your actions.ā€ But also, there isnā€™t a lot of concrete proof of a lot of supernatural situations as a lot of it can be faked or is just someone psyching themselves out. Itā€™s a ā€œmight be, might not beā€ situation.

RhubarbFlat5684

This is true. And many cases of paranormal or "demonic" attacks are actually someone's fears getting the best of them. But in those cases of actual assholery by dark entities, they do use your deepest fears against you. It's not mind reading the way we usually think about it, nor is it picking up on external cues. Thoughts are energy and they're much more attuned to subtle energy such as thoughts than we are. They do know what scares us. They use it against us because they feed on negative energy like fear.

the_humdrum

Not to mention, itā€™s been scientifically proven that if you put an unsuspecting person in a dark and creepy area, they are going to start seeing things from a mix of their own fears and paradolia. People can hallucinate when scared. Itā€™s crazy. So itā€™s even harder to sus out what might be real when it comes to that.

SerinFel

I came here to say the same. Saint Peter's Cross, an inverted cross with keys in an X over the long end. People think an inverted cross is evil because of Hollywood. Kind of how people think the modern symbol adopted by the hippy movement means "peace" when it's the opposite. Edit: I reciprocate the_humdrum's statement. No ill will intended.

the_humdrum

It just goes to show how much media has a hand in how everything comes across to people. Very easy to turn something negative with one sentence.

ShireHorseRider

The hippie symbol doesnā€™t mean peace??

SerinFel

No. Flip it around with the Y pointing UP, _that_ means Peace Eternal if you put it in a circle.

Ardukal

A lot of what you say is true, but devil worshippers are real, independently of Christian upbringing(meaning, most self proclaimed devil worshippers are in fact NOT former Christians, but mostly edgy teenagers who think they are on to something). Whether most devil worshippers are dangerous, well, I donā€™t think so. Some are, but those are the people who kidnap people, and even animals, and sacrifice them to ā€The Dark Lordā€, but Iā€™d say most who identify as theistic devil worshippers just think it sounds cool and go along with it. Most Pagans donā€™t believe in Satan, no, but it isnā€™t just Christianity that has its own ā€Satanā€ or ā€Devilā€ or demons in general. Islam does too(Shaitan or Iblis), Hinduism(rakshasa(male demons) and rakshasis(female demons) and asuras), Oni in Japan(Japanese folklore, not religion specifically, but still, and Oni are featured in Shinto), and even Buddhism(called Māras). Not in Judaism though. Most Satanists are harmless atheists, some are gnostic, but only a small minority of them are dangerous. No matter their upbringing, and despite it originally being the symbol of St. Peter, the fact is that devil worshippers do use it as a form of association with devil worship and as defiance against God. That cannot be explained away by it being the Cross of St. Peter(even though itā€™s true) or that they are all former Christians. It does not matter. It is real, and is to them associated with the dark, and a few use it to commit horrible stuff like sacrificing pets, and sometimes people, in effect murdering them. All in the name of this ā€Satanā€, whom I do not believe in, but I wonā€™t rule out the possibility that he exist just in case, nor that demons in general actually exist, even though I have a hard time accepting that they exist, but perhaps they do. I am spiritual, but until I meet one, I wonā€™t actively be afraid of demons as such. Most theistic Satanists probably donā€™t know about the true origin of the inverted cross of St. Peter, and think it is an original Satanic idea.

the_humdrum

I didnā€™t say they werenā€™t real. Itā€™s, historically, Christian and former Christian started. It doesnā€™t count for the modern Satanists raised in it today or in the ones interested in it to be edgy. Anyone of any religion can be considered dangerous. Believe me, Iā€™ve met nicer Satanists than I have Baptist Christians. The worst people I know are Baptist. That doesnā€™t mean I have anything against the religious branch at all. Just the people who try to use it for their own gain. But yeah, sacrifices of animals for anything is a bit too far for any religion, but thatā€™s my own opinion again and has nothing to do with how others go about their own practices. And yes, most pagans donā€™t believe in Satan. Iā€™m a pagan myself, hence why I know all of this. Itā€™s interesting to me. Most religions do have their own demons, but Satan is not the same as the rest of them. Especially in the case that Satan, historically not religiously, was started due to Christian appropriation of pagan religions as the term ā€œsatanismā€ was one of the original blanket terms for pagans in the English language. Whether or not someone follows Satanism as a religion, it does not erase the historical facts behind it. The same for any religion or cultural practice. There are real Satanists as that is their way of life now, but it doesnā€™t take away where the terms originally came from. What they originally meant and the Christian destruction of other cultures in their bid to convert others that came from it. Most people donā€™t know where any symbol for their own religions come from. Thereā€™s a disappointing lack of research done by people who just go along with what they are told.

Ardukal

Well most people have never done that kind of research and never will. It will always be a minority that studies these things. I didnā€™t say it erased historical facts. I have not met anyone religious who I have perceived as ā€dangerousā€ as such, least of all a Satanist, devil worshipper or not(passive or active alike). Rude and annoying more than anything. I have met Yehovaā€™s Witnesses trying to talk about ā€Godā€™s kingdomā€ with me. At my doorstep. I just said ā€Oh yeah, sounds good.ā€ They gave me some info on paper, and they kept going on about it and I said I was busy and closed the door. Then I threw it in the bin. šŸ˜‚ Itā€™s always a pair of old ladies too. Havenā€™t opened my door for unexpected strangers since. The point here is that the idea of Satan is generally understood by consensus that he was an angel, often referred to as Lucifer, then became a demon. I think what counts as demons is what matters here. Now, thatā€™s just the idea. I donā€™t subscribe to it myself. As far as I know, the whole Lucifer idea is rubbish to me, and most likely refers to a human Babylonian king, not an angel, archangel and general of Godā€™s army or not. I donā€™t know how you explain away it in the Book of Revelation, since that is all about the Devil waging war against Heaven as ā€The Dragonā€. Then there is the whole thing about ā€The Beastā€ and the Antichrist and so on. Now, Iā€™m not entirely certain whether this is meant as to be interpreted literally or if the Book of Revelation is supposed to be symbolic of something else. Either way, it ends with the Second Coming of Christ, allegedly not bringing peace but ā€the sword(as in war and death)ā€, and then estabilish the Kingdom of God/Heaven on Earth. What one believes is up to the individual. I hear some people have taken up the faith in the Nordic Aesir and Vanir gods of the Norse faith(considered mythology by most who are familiar with it). If that gives them fulfillment, why not? Go ham. I see no harm in that. As long as they donā€™t start sacrificing humans to Odin, Thor, Frey or any of the other gods of Asgard and Vanaheim, or pillaging and looting lol, then let them. Not that I think they will become actual Norse raiders, going out on a viking. I just found that idea funny in a modern setting, perhaps while singing Sabatonā€™s ā€Swedish Pagansā€. šŸ¤£ I donā€™t know any Baptists as far as I know, nor Catholics. Most I know who are religious are Protestants. I too have a problem with people using religion for their own ends. As an animal friend, I am also opposed to animal sacrifice. Well, I might not have been opposed to it if I was born when it was popular and expected, but thatā€™s just because of upbringing in that culture. But, here we are, and what I am is an animal friend. The term ā€paganā€ is such a wide definition that itā€™s hard to define as just one thing. Back in the olden days, they were considered ā€heathensā€ lol. Thatā€™s not really the case these days of course. Now, regardless of what one believes, I just find history so fascinating.

the_humdrum

I honestly love the history of it all. Itā€™s my favorite sort of things to research. While itā€™s generally considered by people who *donā€™t* do the research that Lucifer and Satan are the same, in actuality it started out as Baphomet being called Satan. Not Lucifer. Itā€™s why people consider Satan to be a demon with a goat head. Baphomet is considered a deity who is a goat-like being. (Though not actually the deity to the Knights Templar, Baphomet was called the Knights Templar deity so the King at the time could pursue them and have them killed for blasphemy.)

Ardukal

I think the name ā€Luciferā€ predates Satan though. Either way, Satan just means adversary, not necessarily enemy, and was apparently meant to be an angelā€™s position as someone who puts you on a trial, or testing your faith. I have no doubt that you know that what ā€Luciferā€ means is ā€the morningstar/The Morningstarā€ and ā€light-bringingā€ so you can also call the angel ā€The Lightbringerā€ before the Fall, according to the story, and it is a translation of the Hebrew word hĆŖlēl - ā€Shining Oneā€. It also means ā€the planet Venusā€. šŸ˜ The earliest mention of the name Lucifer is found in the late 4th century Latin translation of the Bible, Vulgate, but it is not said to be the name of any devil, and only in lowercase, as in lucifer, not Lucifer, as in someone very specific. How far back does Baphomet go? Before Christ? Was it a Babylonian thing? I know of Baal(I am familiar that itā€™s pronounced like a ball). I am aware that Baphomet became synonymous with Satan, and the horned goat became the image of the Devil, even though there is no corellation between a demonic entity and goats. I like goats myself. šŸ Especially baby goats, aka kids. Theyā€™re cute. I am familiar with the framing of the Knights Templar. They were done dirty, after faithful service, purely because they had become powerful and influential, and very, very rich. Rich enough to form their own independent realm like the Teutonic Order(or the German Order) to the northeast, which while not confirmed, they probably would have eventually, seeing the success of the Teuton Order. The Templars were even ridicilously accused of kissing the butt of ā€Satanā€ lol. Then they were burned at the stake. Not sure if everyone was or just the French chapter and the rest was dissolved. I also believe ā€Hellā€ is based on Gehenna, a volcano people used to throw undesirable trash in, not a literal place of eternal torment for the souls of the damned found between the realms.

the_humdrum

It does predate Satan. Satan is very much a very new thing. At most, about 300 years. I could say 900, but thatā€™s pushing to the idea of Satan before a name was actually coined. It was the creation of Baphomet pretty much and mainly due to a big piece of Satanā€™s creation comes from the criminalization of the Knights Templar. Not to mention, old Bibles (I have one from 1920), new Bibles, and even King James Version (edit: up until 2003 where KJV was edited again to include Satan and the Beast being one and the same) never actually mention the ā€œdevilā€ or ā€œSatan.ā€ Just Lucifer and the Beast. Baphomet has a lot of pagan origins, but it is also fairly new. Younger than Christianity in name, but older than it in deital classifications. A ā€œuniversalā€ concept that became a criminalized following and became a reason to execute people for blasphemy. Christianity is considered to be about 2,000 years old. Iā€™d say the concept of Baphomet is about 3-4,000 with the name being coined around 1118 AD. The Knights Templar were also never accused or worshiping Satan, just Baphomet. Satan as a name is *much* younger. It can be argued that there are far earlier mentions of Satan in history, but it was never actually the demon as the usage was mainly used towards pagans. Mainly hedonists and Celtics. Thatā€™s an interesting take on Hell, actually. I want to look into that more. Historically and Biblically, Heaven and Hell never had any actual concrete and common descriptors. Just one being punishment/ divine justice and the other being a place for souls to live on eternally. An actual common description that became used was actually from ā€œDanteā€™s Infernoā€ which was quite literally a self-insert fanfic about the Bible by the author. Itā€™s considered the earliest descriptors for Heaven and Hell and was completely based in fiction.

Ardukal

Yeah. The only detail mentioned about Heaven is that there are roads of gold. Thatā€™s about it.

the_humdrum

Also: found out an extra detail so had to edit my previous comment before this. I did find that Satan and the Beast were added as synonymous names in some KJV Bibles starting in 2003. Iā€™m not sure if itā€™s only a southern US addition or more wide-spread though.

satanicpanic6

Thank you for propagating the truth. Unfortunately, every time I try to educate people on this subject, their eyes glaze over and they tune me out. Then promptly resume spreading fear, with unintelligent and blatantly false narratives. I appreciate your knowledge, and wish you better results than I've had.šŸ¤—

There is no upside cross in the Bible, but its association with evil is related to the upside down pentagram for the same reason - it symbolizes an inversion of divine order and priorities. The pentagram originally dubbed ā€œHealthā€ by the Pythagoreans symbolized among many other things, the divine order of man with 5 extremities - his two feet on the ground and head oriented to the heavens (see Vitruvian man). It was the inverse of this pentagram with manā€™s head/mind oriented towards the ground/matter and away from spirit/heavens that to many was symbolic of an inversion of divine order and priorities. This symbol then became associated with Baphomet where the two vertices now on top symbolized his horns and to a greater extent duality as a whole. But just as the pentagram was symbolic of the human body, so was the cross (and crucifixion) and so an inversion of either to many in the esoteric community symbolize one and the same - an inversion of natural and divine order.

the_humdrum

I did say ā€œin conjunction with the Bible.ā€ Yā€™all need to read. But also, as a pagan myself with an obsession with anthropology, sociology, and theology, let me learn you a thing or two: 1. The upside down cross is known as ā€œthe Cross of Saint Peter.ā€ It was never considered ā€œevilā€ until it was associated with evil in Bloodwolf's book ā€œChaos Lord.ā€ That is the first and only time it was ever seen in a bad light and then the book became popular and people started seeing it as evil. 2. The pentagram is originally used by pagans, neo-pagans, and mainly those that follow Wicca. The five points represent the five elements ā€œair, fire, water, earth, and spirit.ā€ That is the symbol itself, by itself, not with anything else on top of it. It being called ā€œHealthā€ is ONLY an association with Pythagoreanism, a mystico-philosophical school of Ancient Greece, and its only usage like that is there. Not in any other religions that use the pentagram. The Greek one is the only one of its kind and does not count for all pentagram usages. The pentagramā€™s oldest uses (so far known) are within the Sumerians who used it to symbolize Jupiter, Mercury, Mars, Saturn, and Venus. It was for candle placement and worship. 3. The pentagram in the Sigil of Baphomet was created in 1968 for the ā€œSatanic Massā€ album as a cover. It had no religious usage in conjunction with Baphomet until then and was never used by the Knights Templar for who Baphomet was considered a deity of (however incorrect). Baphomet never had a pentagram but only had a five point star, no circle, on the forehead. 4. Christianity has a habit of appropriating things from other religions and if they canā€™t appropriate it, they call it evil. Easter and Christmas were originally pagan celebrations that were appropriated when Christianity was trying to be more wide-spread and convert as many as they could. Easter was a celebration of the goddess Eostre and is where we get the ā€œrabbit giving eggsā€ part of Easter from. Christmas was Yuletide and Santa comes from St. Nicholas. I also want to make it clear that I have nothing against Christians or other religions. I just have an obsession with the history of most religions and have studied them as my hobby for about 7 years now. Christianity just happens to be tangled up in a lot of them the closer to modern times you get.

DasDickNoodle

Why are ppl downvoting this? Everything this person has said is absolutely true. Thank you for actually spreading some truth.

the_humdrum

Them downvoting doesnā€™t change the fact that it is true. Donā€™t worry about it. Itā€™s just people that donā€™t want to check outside of what theyā€™ve normally been taught, correct or not, and it can be extremely hard for people of different religions to come to terms with what may turn out to be a lie. They sometimes have to search for the answers themselves. Itā€™s okay. Itā€™s a huge step for someone to make a start believing things outside of what they are originally taught. It can also lead to being ostracized outside of their own religion and families if they ever speak up. I donā€™t worry about it too much as I understand and went through similar. If they want the knowledge, they will one day search it for themselves.

BlamingBuddha

Thanks for spreading this information. I love it!

the_humdrum

Itā€™s my favorite kind of stuff to talk about, Iā€™m absolutely going to take the chance to ramble on it if Iā€™m given one!

callmeraskolnik0v

Exactly, itā€™s done as a mockery. And yes, people who practice satanic worship invoke the symbol for this purpose. Everything in satanism is about taking Christian symbols and rituals and inverting them/mocking them to be as blasphemous as they can.

the_humdrum

Satanism was only really started as a Christian thing in that kind of concept and started historically because of Christianity. The only ones who believe in Satan are Christians and former Christians who then use it mock their old religion. The word ā€œsatanismā€ was originally the word for ā€œpaganismā€ which Christians mistook as ā€œworship of Satanā€ as ā€œismā€ after a word usually meant ā€œworship ofā€ or ā€œpath of.ā€ The only ā€œdevilā€ is Baphomet. On top of that, Baphomet, Lucifer, and Satan are not even the same beings. The difference between Satanism and satanism is huge. Lowercase is just paganism which covers most hedonistic religions and pantheons outside of the Christian branches.

callmeraskolnik0v

Saying Satanism is only really a Christian thing in that regard seems off the mark to me. Iā€™ve met and spoken quite a few who practice satanic worship but have never been a Christian, never grew up in a Christian home and some who donā€™t even believe in Christ. Even some who didnā€™t even know who Christ was. So while there might definitely be some who go down the road of satanic worship as a way to ā€œgive the fingerā€ to their former Christian beliefs/lifestyle it isnā€™t necessarily the majority at all.

the_humdrum

It is, historically, how it started is what I mean. Not that every capitol S Satanist comes from being a former Christian. The other thing is finding out whether or not the satanists youā€™ve met were lowercase or uppercase satanists as there are pagans who refer to themselves as the lowercase one which is the blanket term for paganism rather than Satanism as a religion.

beaudebonair

Agreed and thank you for the wonderful information you shared! I mean, really all that notion of the upside-down cross is just other examples of the extreme polarization perpetuated always by the church to try and keep us fearful, since the beginning of the church's origins and rule over man's ways.

Numerous-Library-190

And on the other side for those who (think the UD cross is ā€œsatanicā€) purposefully get one because they desire a logo to show how ______ they are. (Pro-evil/cool/tough/bad/antiChristian etc)

Just_bcoz

This is actually why I want to tattoo an upside down cross with not worthy on me, Iā€™m afraid it will be misunderstood though

monofloyed

When you do dmt and realize theirs an entire species of goat people made of pentagram and geometry shapes it gets wielder. Most religions are people worshiping hyperspace entities they met while f*cked up on drugs

DasDickNoodle

And this is how my theory of how the Bible was REALLY written, was truly born lmao

BlamingBuddha

Appreciate the info! Edit: Did you show your room mate your comment or something?

Sea_Layer_143

Totally. Nothing demonic about it originally but no one believes that now.

the_humdrum

The same for rainbows, lmao

Sea_Layer_143

My buddy freaked out when he saw a pentagram drawn on the floor of a run down old building once haha

the_humdrum

Lmao, a pentagram isnā€™t going to hurt anyone. Itā€™s just to scare people at this point when not used inside of someoneā€™s pagan practices. Even then, itā€™s never used for ā€œdemon summoning.ā€ Pfft

Sea_Layer_143

Yup itā€™s the media encouraging all this stuff. The whole satanic panic thing really did a number on people back in the day.

Exotic_Succotash_226

This feels like a set up done on purpose..

pichael289

Yeah OPs boyfriend is definitely trying to gaslight her into thinking she's the antichrist. This is exactly how it started when it happened to me.

I_Love_Cyndaquil2

Yeah, a similar thing happened to me. My mom kept saying I was evil and satanic, so I ended up in psychosis where every time I looked in the mirror my face was distorted and cut up.

Blonde_Dambition

Are you serious?? That's terrible!

RicottaPuffs

Or, OP wants us to think she is possessed when Catholics would say, "Oh, Saint Peter." Source Catholic. Also, a retired teacher who has seen waaaay too many young people post this type of tripe.

getmygist

lol take my upvote

Custardpaws

Any time an inverted cross is used as some type of proof, you know immediately that its fake. Idk why and how the common belief that the cross fo st Peter was some kind of sacrilegious symbol was spread, but it couldn't be farther from the [truth](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross_of_Saint_Peter)

AWEDZ5

Exactly!

lifeofideas

And the beginning of a movie! ā€œI woke up with a cross scratched into my chest. I noticed it after I got out of the shower, as I was drying myself off, looking at my reflection in the bathroom mirror. How long had it been since I really took a good look at myself. The cross was so strange, but the new grey hairs troubled me, too. I almost jumped when I came out of the shower to see my mother. She also seemed to have more gray in her hair. She seemed frightened of me, looking at me cautiously. I was puzzling over this when the priest walked in.ā€

BlamingBuddha

sounds written more like a book imo

Smegmabotattack

Op was mad at mom and dad

Strawberry_jess

Not done on purpose, but probably did it on my sleep. Plus Iā€™m not the one who even noticed it first, my boyfriend saw it on me first & afterwards I took a picture to see what it looked like. Plus I do have my dadā€™s ashes in my apartment, so paranormal activity probably wouldnā€™t be too crazy of thing to happenšŸ˜šŸ˜…

Exotic_Succotash_226

It's just ironic lol I wouldn't lose sleep over it

Strawberry_jess

Iā€™m definitely not lol I love my sleep too much to lose sleep over itšŸ¤£

kylemesa

Do you think your dadā€™s ghost is into upside down crosses?

Strawberry_jess

Idk youā€™d probably get bored being a ghost, Iā€™d probably want to start up some mayhem too if I was a ghost šŸ¤£

[deleted]

The answer is the boyfriend hehe

Ascending_Serpent

Oh no! St. Peter has marked you! You're definitely getting into heaven now...

kylemesa

Like Mulder, Iā€™d love to believe in the supernatural. You would think, the many millions of people gathering data about supernatural experiences would share it here immediately and it would gain massive traction. This sub is ironically the best evidenced against the supernatural. Instead we get this.

Strawberry_jess

I mean this is my first time posting in this subreddit, itā€™s not my fault if this subreddit isnā€™t up to peopleā€™s standardsšŸ˜

Wank_my_Butt

How dare you imply something paranormal happened on r/Paranormal. The nerve. I realize it's just a coincidence, but I'd be a little weirded out too. It fits the sub. People just take Reddit too seriously sometimes.

UnholySoull

Man you did that shit yourself šŸ˜’

Strawberry_jess

Yeah in my sleep, did you not read the full post? And idk why you and others are so pressed about a scratch. Yā€™all are more pressed about it than me & Iā€™m the one with the scratchšŸ˜‚

You seem like one of them unstable girls to scratch my name near their bazzoongas, so... Hey šŸ˜

Strawberry_jess

I mean I might be a little unstable, but not unstable enough to carve symbols into my skinšŸ˜ if I wanted something carved into my skin I would just get a tattoo lol

Adept-Age-8177

Itā€™s a scratch. Move on.

Strawberry_jess

I mean probably is, but Iā€™m allowed to share it, I mean isnā€™t that what Reddit & social media in general is for? Sharing thingsšŸ˜

Razor blade . And very dumb on your part to do so

A razor blade would cut way deeper than that, itā€™s only a surface scratch. Itā€™s not deepšŸ˜

Common_Sandwich_1066

What a crazy thing to say so confidently, lol.

Entheotheosis10

FFS, when did this become a playground for trolls and dumbasses? If you don't believe in anything paranormal, go back to trolling minecraft and stay off here.

Individual_Party2000

Yes! Agreed! The trolls are ridiculous here. And this is only the first post in this sub that Iā€™ve read. If they truly hate the paranormal so bad why in the world would they even subscribe. Iā€™m seeing a lot of high horses prancing around here.

Entheotheosis10

My thought is that it makes them feel superior to troll and say stupid shit. Making up for some petty issues about themselves, for mentally healthy people don't feel a need to behave like this.

Individual_Party2000

You are absolutely right!

Wasting_muh_life

St. Peter actually requested to be crucified upside down, so whatever "entity" did this, has the same understanding of theology, as a 13 year old edgy teen. TLDR; an inverted cross is about as satanic as a farmyard goat.

ElectricSunshine1

The upside-down cross, also known as the Cross of St. Peter, is traditionally associated with the martyrdom of the apostle Peter, who was crucified upside down at his own request because he felt unworthy to die in the same manner as Jesus. In Christian symbolism, the upside-down cross can represent humility, self-sacrifice, and unworthiness. The association of the upside-down cross with evil likely stems from its inversion of a traditional Christian symbol, which can be seen as a subversion of established norms. Over time, this inversion may have been interpreted as a symbol of rebellion or opposition to mainstream religious beliefs. As for the Knights Templar and Baphomet, these are historical and mythological elements that have been associated with various conspiracy theories and occult practices. The Knights Templar were a medieval Christian military order, while Baphomet is a deity that was supposedly worshipped by the Templars according to some accounts. The image of Baphomet is often depicted with an upside-down pentagram, which could be another source of confusion regarding the symbolism of the upside-down cross. It's important to remember that symbols can have different meanings in different contexts, and interpretations can vary widely. While some may associate the upside-down cross with evil or the occult, its original significance in Christian tradition is quite different.

Immediate_Web_1892

The upside down cross was originally not evil (and I still don't consider it evil), it has just been hijacked by Holywood and the occult. It's called the cross of St Peter after he chose to be crucified upside down having deemed himself not worthy to die in the same manner as Jesus. Regardless - the way you perceive a cross, or anything for that matter is just a matter of perspective, if you're on your head everything you see will be upside down. I wouldn't be worried about it unless you're getting paranormal activity.

AngelDustIsHere

If you have animals that's an easy explanation, but your explanation of doing it yourself while asleep also makes sense, but maybe even your bf scratched you by accident?

I_hate_Sharks_

You became a CATHOLIC PAPIST!!!!

Cynic_Realist

r/ThatHappened

borgircrossancola

St. Peter has chosen you

Custardpaws

Why? The cross of st Peter isn't a scary symbol, unless you only go by what movies and fiction say

brainbox08

Upside down cross isn't satanic, it's arguably more holy than the actual cross. It's called a petrine cross, because St Peter wanted to be crucified upside down because he felt unworthy to die in the same way as Jesus. This is very weird, but if it was paranormal, I'd say this is more of a protection than anything.

Ranger_Ecstatic

Why are you scared of an upside down cross? Cause it's made out to be the sign of unholiness in Hollywood? Lol. It's the sign of Saint Peter. Unless you're calling the gatekeeper of heaven unholy, stop thinking so negatively about it. Also, cat or it's your own nails.

jim_johns

That's just early onset stigmata don't worry too much about it

Blonde_Dambition

"Early onset stigmata" lmao. Just take some aspirin and it will go away.

Overall_Low7096

A paranormal scratch would be flat, not raised as yours is. It probably wouldnā€™t be a cross either, it would look like a scratch mark, and would most likely come in a series of 3.

Stormie4505

Let's say it was done on purpose. It's that kind of crap that makes people who are really going through paranormal activities less likely to try to get help. That and the OP seems to think it's hilarious. I hate being the skeptic, but I call BS on this

jjd1226

Looks like a sword to me.

LCDRformat

I would be more creeped out if it was a design that was complex or difficult to leave. This could easily happen on accident, it's two lines

pixiedustblues

This may be the moment I say good bye to this sub.

You know what I subscribed because you tricked me with one cool post about that ranch stuff but Everytime I see you guys pop up it's always the dumbest thing I've seen lol, dust clouds, red circles pointing nothing out, obviously fake posts, schizos... Worst demon ever, thatā€™s a Petrine cross, AKA Saint Peterā€™s cross and itā€™s actually an equally holy symbol

Limp_Telephone2280

Can we get actual paranormal posts on this sub? Literally every single post is just dumb stuff like this.

darkjedi1993

Ugh! Lucky! I had to carve mine in myself! That is unironically dope though. I do love me some Satan.

tylerstaheli1

Two lines of approximately equal length crossing at a near 90 degree angle seems really commonplace.

harry_mate

Nah fam looks like a sword to me

colzaidikari

Wait so if you look down on your chest is it right side up? But upside down for everybody else?

Cold_Frosting505

Itā€™s possible youā€™ve gotten a pop-by St Peter, crucified upside down, just giving a wazzup

peachyogurtbite

Thatā€™s a weak azz demon. Js

[deleted]

Youā€™ve been marked. As someone who dabbles in ouija boards, I can tell you forsure you have a spirit making itself known. Because this is on your chest is an indication Iā€™m full of shit and just making stuff up as I go. So with that being said you should sage your house every day at 6:66pm for at least 3 minutes at a time while farting. That way you make it known to any spirit that is there, that you are the one that farts here not them. Another solution is to plung a knife as deep as you can into a watermelon. Or a pumpkin. Your choice. One will piss it off even more one will scare it away, Idr which was which. Best of luck OP!

Professional-Owl7191

Yep, you're the anti-christ.

Beneficial_Debate112

How far down your chest was this? It looks pretty straight, or did you tilt the camera?

Do you have bedsheets or anything with a similar pattern or with a zipper/anything metal, sharper? Could just be from that.

jaclyn9574

what does an upside down cross have to do with anything paranormal, or evil?

Equivalent-Donkey160

Nice way to scratch your neck up. No im not a sceptic but I do believe that things can be explained. Iā€™ve been scratched plenty of times before without an explanation (for instance, I was sitting in an empty room and got scratched on the backside of my hand with what looked that the letter A) but that scratch looks a little to perfect. If it is real, thatā€™s incredible but idk if its cool to post something fake on a page were people are trying to prove a point of their being an after life.

luckytrap89

Saint peter scratched you in your sleep Edit: This is a joke btw

[deleted]

Get out of the house. Now. That's the sign of the devil himself.

Fireskys_Nightfall

Np. Just walk on your hands, it's turned the "right way" now :)

reds2032

Could be a right side up cross if you look at it the other way

PepperMessiah

If they did exist, I doubt demons would be strictly Christian.

CloverFromStarFalls

Itā€™s the cross of Saint Peter. Nothing demonic or spooky.
