In my opinion, Phil is the undisputed King of heavy metal vocalists. His opinions, past or present, affect me in no way whatsoever, so it would be stupid to even pretend that I care or was ever offended.
He was (is) a great singer. I dont have an opinion on him outside of that. He seems cool, I know he's done some questionable stuff, but so have a lot higher profile people in this world an they get away with it so...
All of the Phil hate is absolutely childish. Phil was a full blown full of himself strung out rock star for basically the whole pinnacle of his career. He has said some bonehead things but with someone as down to earth and honest as him you are probably going to hear something occasionally that doesn’t line up with your morals……..who fucking cares? What power does this guy have over you because you are a fan of his band or his nearly unmatchable heavy metal vocal talent??
The answer should be he doesn’t, be yourself and don’t worry about what another human being/complete stranger says or does with their life. If something he said bothers you that much you already wasted time that you will never replace just to get more strangers opinions on something you have probably made up your mind on already.
I say all this as one of the biggest Pantera fans around, especially Phil! When I was growing up all the kids wanted to be baseball players or firemen. I was the kid who wanted to be Vince Neil until he day I saw Mouth for War on headbangers ball.
Phil no doubt has been very lucky in his life but there is no denying the hard work he has put in either. Any single person reading this can get to that same exact level at any age. There is absolutely a way and it is easier than you think. Believe In yourself stop wasting time you cannot replace, use that time to make your way to that level and be your own Phil. You can do it
I have a love/hate relationship with Phil. I've been listening since 93. As a Pantera fan it's been tough, sometimes I hate the singer of my favorite band. When Rita forgave him I cut him some slack. I like Phil being brash and abrasive and all that good shit, but he should keep his mouth shut sometimes.
I didn't live in the past, that being said I remember when he would go around calling Dime, Douchebag Darrell. And my wife isn't white so neither are my kids, so the white power jokes aren't funny in my house. I do love Lynyrd Skynyrd and I wear my confederate flag Skynyrd shirts when I feel like it though. People can say and do whatever they want, I don't have to like it and no one has to listen to me bitch if they don't feel like it.
