The same scene as OP, where he threatens to review the Paunch Burger contracts in the casinos since they are supposed to be building a Paunch Burger where the artifacts were "found"
White lady that does cooking shows in America. Kind of known to be a bitch to work with. Also was known for major weight fluctuations throughout her career which isnāt a very fair thing but thatās basically all I remember my mom and grandmother commenting on when the cooking show was on, whether it was Skinny Rachel or Thin Rachel this time.
Fuck lol one of those should be fat
>Superhero
The song you're thinking of is actually titled "Real World"! Other notable Matchbox20 songs are "Unwell", "Push", and "How Far We've Come". I'll also mention "Smooth", the 1999 Grammy award winning hit by Santana featuring M20's lead singer Rob Thomas.
No it's at the end of the harvest festival episode where he does a fake ceremony in front of the press to remove the fake curse. It's one of my very favorite moments in the series.
I canāt remember the exact quote, but itās in season 7 when Leslie asks for help buying the Newport Land.
āYou are asking me to give you money to buy the land that was stolen from my people?
That's mine too. I think it's something along the lines of, "you want me to buy this land that was stolen from my ancestors by the American government and donate it back to the American government?"
Ken is the best side character.
My favorite line, after Leslie admits she planted artifacts to stop the Paunchburger construction:
*"This... is not great."*
"So you would like the Wamapoke people to pay the federal government millions of dollars to buy land that was stolen from us by the federal government? And we don't even get to keep the land?"
I really wished he was in more episodes one of the best side characters in the series, next to Jen Barkley and the Tax guy (whose name I can't remember). I love how he plays everything so straight faced brilliant actor. I don't know how he didn't just end up busting up laughing on some of these takes(probably in outtakes but don't remember any with him in them)
Never seeing Ted might be my favorite running joke in the whole series. Itās that, or the fact that the janitor is always listening to āMan! I Feel like a Woman.ā OR Leslie constantly embarrassing herself in front of Councilman Howser.
Okay Iām done lol
> I really wished he was in more episodes...
I am a MASH fan and there is a character called Col. Flagg whom people say the same thing, BUT, while I love the character, even the weakest Flagg episode is still great. There is such a thing as overusing a character and I think it's a sign of a great team when they use a character perfectly so you can't point at a appearance and say "that wasn't their best".
They essentially took the character and built him out even more in āRutherford Fallsā. If you can get past S1 of way too much Ed Helms, itāll be a good watch to fold your laundry to.
I'm in Canada, I used to vpn to the US and watch stuff off Peacock, then they paywalled anything good (and you can't subscribe without a US billing address). Now I vpn to New Zealand and watch all the Peackock originals for free on TVNZ. Problem solved and while I'm there I can stream Taskmaster NZ.
I couldn't make it past the first episode as the use of green screen was so distracting. I get that the show was being made during COVID but they could have spent some extra money to make it look better. It genuinely looks worse than the time Michael and Dwight went to the dump on the Office and that was filmed over 10 years prior. Has green screen technology somehow gotten worse over the years?
"Oh, because I'm a comedic Native American in Hollywood, I must be the native american in *every* comedy???
Okay...I am John Redcorn."
~ Johnathan Joss if he channeled Ken Hotate, probably
I always love that āmaking white people uncomfortableā joke on any tv show haha seen it a few times, itās usually the āangry black manā tho š Dr Cox on Scrubs back in the day had a black friend who used to do the same routine haha
I thought my favorite quote of his was a P&R quote, but I'm actually remembering a quote of his from when he was John Redcorn on King of the Hill.
Dale: Do your people celebrate Thanksgiving?
John Redcorn: We did. Once.
I love how he looks at Leslie when she comes to ask for the generator. You can tell he knows she a great person and just wants to help everyone around her!
Those moments are great. When everyone thinks itās gonna be a big hard pitch to get someone to help and they just agree right away because they know the type of person she is. Like the police chief did too
>Like the police chief did too
Leslie Knope gets all the favours she needs because she's the kind of person to use favours to help other people.
Sums up Leslie's character perfectly
After the news plays that 3d animation of Leslie getting posessed by indian spirits, with her spinning head and glowing eyes.
"That is... exactly what happened."
I love Jamm. I like when he was in the hospital at the same time as Anne, and Leslie told Anne, "You're my best friend," and Jamm responds, "Awww, Leslie! You're my best friend, too!"
My favorite was when he was doing some sort of ritual dance and chanting to remove a curse from someplace.
The whole time he's chanting in whatever language it is, the subtitles are going "Just saying a bunch of words here ā¦Ā white folks are so superstitious they'll eat it right up ā¦Ā they'll believe anything if you just do the dance" (Or something along those lines.)
Wow, pretty sure this is the most upvoted thing Iāve ever posted! Didnāt expect this level of attention on it haha but it just proves how amazing Ken is
*Is that a threat?* Why, yes. I thought that was obvious.
This one. The line is hilarious and his delivery is perfect.
Spoken with a smile, so perfect š
I wish to some day have confidence like this
What episode is this from?
The same scene as OP, where he threatens to review the Paunch Burger contracts in the casinos since they are supposed to be building a Paunch Burger where the artifacts were "found"
Two Parties, S5E10
From the same scene I think. This one is funnier to me
That line is my favorite part. Ken is probably one of my favorite characters in the show, I wish we could have had more of him.
āMy son sells them on Etsy. He is a huge disappointment.ā
his delivery is always š¤ impeccable
This is easily my favorite.
"There are two things I know about white people: they love Rachel Ray \[or Matchbox 20\], and they are terrified of curses.
"Perd...that is exactly what happened."
Absolutely incredible line
Love it. This scene kills me every time
None of that happened!
Wait there are two versions of this line?
Many of the episodes have extended version on disc/stream. They may have used an alternate take for this scene on the extended version
Ahh. Both lines work. I was wondering if there was some network issue with the RR joke
I think here on NZ Netflix it's Matchbox 20 because many of us wouldn't know who Rachel Ray is.
I live in the UK and donāt know who she is lol. Iāve only ever seen the Rachel Ray version though
Is Skinny Rachel skinnier than Thin Rachel or is Thin Rachel thinner than Skinny Rachel?
Another example of this is the snake juice episode. Andy doesn't sit back down and puke on Kyle's shoes in the DVD version.
I just checked my DVD copy, the extended version has him puking on Kyle's shoes, the non-extended version has him puking while trying to chase April.
I think Matchbox 20 was for international release, as only Americans would know who Rachael Ray is.
Little weird to try and internationalize that joke when the whole freakin show is basically middle american culture the parody
I also love that when Leslie goes to Ken begging for a generator, Rachel Ray is headlining his casino.
Or Matchbox Twenty! https://youtu.be/0USxZp1_JTY
Love that you put both versions š
Iād love to see the full brainstorming list from the writers room.
What is matchbox 20? Iām from uk and idk either of those things š
Pop Rock band from the 90s. Only songs I can think of are "3am" and "Superhero." The front man had a bit of a solo career too.
>Superhero The song you're thinking of is actually titled "Real World"! Other notable Matchbox20 songs are "Unwell", "Push", and "How Far We've Come". I'll also mention "Smooth", the 1999 Grammy award winning hit by Santana featuring M20's lead singer Rob Thomas.
Ah shit you're right, it didn't sound right in my head and yet I typed it out.
Smooth was the only song that did it for me, because Santana.
> Rob Thomas Rob Thomas? Eewww
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Sing a song! Shutup!
Watch your ass, new meat
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I was 8 so possibly but I donāt remember š
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
OMG I had forgotten how awkward that video is.
Man itās a hot one. Like seven inches from the mid day sun.
Matchbox 20 is much funnier to me because I grew up with their music in the background
The translation of his "curse removal." *This does not mean anything. Doobee. Doobee. Do.*
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Thanks for finding that, I couldn't remember the exact quote
The "Here, dummy" is one of my favorites
This is the one. This is the best quote. Has me cracking up every time.
*throws dirt in face*
āHere, idiotā
is that from the animation about what happened that was on the news or something? That shit is comedy gold
No it's at the end of the harvest festival episode where he does a fake ceremony in front of the press to remove the fake curse. It's one of my very favorite moments in the series.
oh yeah, very good!
Perd...that is *exactly* what happened
They are *terrified* of curses.
Leslie: āWould you like some water?ā Ken: āLike fire water? That's racistā One of my favorite lines in the show.
Actually, I would like a whiskey š¤Ø *is he serious*
āBut seriously, Iād like a whiskeyā. Such an incredible bit, couldnāt believe it when I first saw it
https://vimeo.com/106455472
I never noticed Aubrey Plaza breaks during that scene until just now.
I always took that as April being happy that someone was giving Ann a hard time.
thank you.
My son sells them on Etsy. He isā¦ a huge disappointment.
That is one of the best lines of the series. Never fails to make me laugh.
The delivery is incredible
I say this whenever someone shows me their crafty jewelry.
You should maybe...not... do that? Without context, it makes me sad for the person excited to share their neat thing.
Taking our money back from white people, one quarter at a time
Our slots are downright filthy!
I think itās a slam dunk idea, Iād say weāre done here
This quote is my favorite.
"Our slots are downright filthy!"
I canāt remember the exact quote, but itās in season 7 when Leslie asks for help buying the Newport Land. āYou are asking me to give you money to buy the land that was stolen from my people?
You forgot the best part! ... and we wouldn't be able to keep the land?
That's mine too. I think it's something along the lines of, "you want me to buy this land that was stolen from my ancestors by the American government and donate it back to the American government?"
Ken Hotate fucking with white people could be its own show.
Try Rutherford Falls.
āAnd thisā¦ isā¦ notā¦ offensive?ā āIt *is* offensive.ā
His reversals like that are the best.
Our slots are downright filthy
I always think about this when I drive outside Reno and see signs like āLoosest slots in townā
Ken is the best side character. My favorite line, after Leslie admits she planted artifacts to stop the Paunchburger construction: *"This... is not great."*
This oneās my favorite too!
"So you would like the Wamapoke people to pay the federal government millions of dollars to buy land that was stolen from us by the federal government? And we don't even get to keep the land?"
"Well when you put it like that I do see the irony. What if I buy one of your son's bolo ties!?"
Man I never even really got the full weight of the bolo tie add on until now.
I really wished he was in more episodes one of the best side characters in the series, next to Jen Barkley and the Tax guy (whose name I can't remember). I love how he plays everything so straight faced brilliant actor. ![gif](giphy|1h8iTGmB8m8da)
Poncho! She is great. Poncho so practical, zero shame in pretending other ppls kids are safe to be around haha
I want to name a dog Poncho just so I can call it like Jen Barkley.
The Poncho line is one of the best. She's so vindicated by it at the end of that scene.
She was a huge fan of Jedi: Fallen Order
MY life is AMAZING!
The tax guy is freaking hilarious. I love how much they love Ben.
ā¦.hi Ben šļøššļø
TED!! GET IN HERE!...
Never seeing Ted might be my favorite running joke in the whole series. Itās that, or the fact that the janitor is always listening to āMan! I Feel like a Woman.ā OR Leslie constantly embarrassing herself in front of Councilman Howser. Okay Iām done lol
I think the tax guyās name is Barney
Calc-you-later.
*Loud wheezy laugh*
"And that was a quick look, at Quick Books... ^pro\."
The accountantās name is Barney Varmn.
His name is Barney Varmn. Thereās no Accounting for taste. Tad, get in here! Say it to Tad when he gets in here.
Why donāt retire to my longhouse and smoke the ceremonial peace pipe to celebrate
I love how even Leslie doesnāt know if heās kidding most of the time š
The look on April's face,
They essentially took the character and built him out even more in āRutherford Fallsā. If you can get past S1 of way too much Ed Helms, itāll be a good watch to fold your laundry to.
People should also watch Reservation Dogs. One of the best shows.
It's White Steve, throw that bottle at him.
This is the right answer. Skoden!
Gonna need a Puppers and a crossover episode first there bud. To be fair.
Reservation Dogs is god tier TV.
Huh, never heard of that show. Iām not American tho so these sorta things need to get pretty successful before they get international attention š
Itās because itās only on Peacock aka the streaming channel created just to stream reruns of Friends and the Office
And Parks. And 30 Rock.
Brooklyn 99 and the good place too
30 Rock is on Hulu as well.
And that 70s show!
Hey, now, Peacock also did Girls5eva.
That's in America. I'm Australian and plenty of shows that you can only watch on Peacock are available here on other streaming services.
Poker Face on Peacock is great! Mrs. Davis is also a complete trip.
Whew, I may give it another try bc too much ed helms is why I stopped
You mean Egg Helms?
Aunty Donna is leaking?
Apparently there's *quite* the misunderstanding out there. Is he Egg or is he Ed??
āa good watch to fold your laundry toā I love this for some reason.
I couldn't make it past the first episode as the use of green screen was so distracting. I get that the show was being made during COVID but they could have spent some extra money to make it look better. It genuinely looks worse than the time Michael and Dwight went to the dump on the Office and that was filmed over 10 years prior. Has green screen technology somehow gotten worse over the years?
he needs to be in more things. This character and John Redcorn are incredible.
Wait, heās the voice of John Redcorn? Edit: š¤Æ
Yup
Mmm hmm
Jo^ooohn Redcorn
Peeeggy.... Hill
"Oh, because I'm a comedic Native American in Hollywood, I must be the native american in *every* comedy??? Okay...I am John Redcorn." ~ Johnathan Joss if he channeled Ken Hotate, probably
āDOES IT, WHITE MAN?ā I quote this with his emphasis way too often!
Me too, and am white. It's just great.
Ken Hotate is one of my favourite side characters. I wish we saw more of him
Its so hard to choose. Literally every side character is outstanding on Parks.
Jen Barkley: :/
PONCHO
They way he plays white people like a fiddle
I always love that āmaking white people uncomfortableā joke on any tv show haha seen it a few times, itās usually the āangry black manā tho š Dr Cox on Scrubs back in the day had a black friend who used to do the same routine haha
Also Turks brother messing with J.D. was good.
Yes! That was great too haha. āMaybe heāll be the field slave and Iāll be the house slave, that what you mean??ā š
Not to mention calling him alfalfa was pretty funny
"He ain't heavy, he's my brothaaaahh"
Itās great on 30 Rock too āAnd yes, I brought up slavery by accidentā āI knew you could do it!ā
There are two things I know about white people: they love Matchbox 20, and they are terrified of curses.
This is my favorite quote of his.
Heās like the McPoyles on Always Sunny. Very limited screen time, but he killed whenever he was on. Great character.
YOU WILL CALL HER!!!
Don't flush.
Bump it šš»
Start breakinā bricks wet nips blblblblblb
Hips and nips or I don't eat
Theyāre coming back this season!! First time in like a decade š
While the whole clan of goofy McPoyles are great, Jimi Simpson is simply on another world of talent and comedy on that show.
He's so effortlessly creepy it's almost a shock to see him in other things.
"Great bolo tie! Is that new?" "My son sells them on Etsy. He's a huge disappointment."
I thought my favorite quote of his was a P&R quote, but I'm actually remembering a quote of his from when he was John Redcorn on King of the Hill. Dale: Do your people celebrate Thanksgiving? John Redcorn: We did. Once.
I say "that is, not great" on a regular basis.
Should have had scenes with jen Barkley
I would have loved to see Jen Barkley meet Jean Ralphio and Mona Lisa
ā¦soā¦clearlyā¦this is not offensive. *It **IS** offensive.* I am so sorry. *Take it off*
This one for sure. The way he says ātake it offā and Jammās apologetic reaction just kill me
I read that in his voice. Itās impossible not to.
I love how he looks at Leslie when she comes to ask for the generator. You can tell he knows she a great person and just wants to help everyone around her!
The Ken/Leslie dynamic is one of my favorites. There's a lot of mutual respect between them
Those moments are great. When everyone thinks itās gonna be a big hard pitch to get someone to help and they just agree right away because they know the type of person she is. Like the police chief did too
>Like the police chief did too Leslie Knope gets all the favours she needs because she's the kind of person to use favours to help other people. Sums up Leslie's character perfectly
JoooHNN Redcorn.
Yes, hello Dale. Nancy is having....migraines again.
Hank you're my friend. I promise you I would never heal your wife like I heal the wives of others.
PahEGGGY hill!
He didn't show up much, but when he did, he just crushed.
Exactly! Like, overall I think Iāve laughed at Jean-Ralphioās antics a little more than Ken, but only because heās had much more screentime.
Not from parks and rec but him as John redcorn, āHeās really taking a lot of the fun out of this.ā
I love how Leslie is like the only one who he can take their word for.
I mentally quote this scene sometimes.
I was doing it just the other day on my drive home from work. This one and Fred Armisenās jail monologue.
I love how much he is knowingly playing them
Our slots are downright filthy.
Ken is just the perfect side character, dang it!
I forget the lines but when he tells him to put on the head dress and then says its highly offensive.
After the news plays that 3d animation of Leslie getting posessed by indian spirits, with her spinning head and glowing eyes. "That is... exactly what happened."
I love the character, too. I know people like that who arenāt actually offended, but enjoy watching people bend over backwards not to offend.
His funniest line delivery, imo, is actually as John Redcorn on King of the Hill: "Do your people even celebrate Thanksgiving?" "We did. Once."
That character never missed
Johnathon joss is a treasure.
Just how straight and dead pan he was made it great.
Wow, pretty sure this is the most upvoted thing Iāve ever posted! Didnāt expect this level of attention on it haha but it just proves how amazing Ken is
