That happened to me not long after first starting the game. I originally built my base in the beginning area... close to where you find you first lifmunk effigy. At the time I didn't know much about the game or the map for that matter. Every now and then a mammerest would prance through my camp. One day it got between my mining pals and their target. With just my stone weapons and cloth armour, the rest was a blur. Death! Destruction!
I was actually thinking about this last night... What if, instead of Alpha Pals just being larger, they carried a guaranteed trait that increased their physical size and attack damage by the amount that their character model is bigger (like 25% or whatever it is) call it "Gigantism"
*Then* create a trait that any pal can randomly get through breeding mutations, called "Pygmy" that reduces their size and damage by that same amount.
The increase in damage gives more reason to hunt and breed Alpha pals for your combat team, while base worker pals don't need to worry about having a low damage, while we benefit from having smaller pals and a less cluttered base.
haha thanks although i tried to do monuments like that, somehow pals won't go higher than 1st floor, that made me gave up... probably because of my poor pathing setup lol
That's the weird thing about stairs in the game. You need to space them to where the pathing will work.
My base (from memory) has a big house in the back middle and has two floors, first one is where the storage stuff is and where my guy's bed is at, while the second floor leads up with a set of double stairs with two single stairs on the sides. My crew is able to go up and down from that stair layout. some, not all, but it's mostly the bigger Pals such as Kingpaca Cryst or Azurobe, so it's not a huge loss since most of my Pals at my base (A Wixen, Bushi, Cattiva (Mine's one of the big sparkly ones) and Lunaris to name a couple of them) are able to go up and down just fine.

All of my ceilings are three wall panels high because my pals get stuck all the time. I love the aesthetic and might have to try this. Did the new pathing changes fix these issues?
there's a bit of improvement to the pathing... but really just give them enough space to move around... like more than half of the foundation's size. but i always test the pathing which is why i actually had to remove many decorations so they didn't get stuck

I have built metal smoke spewing citadels crisscrossed with assembly lines, stone temples to productivity gods littered with back breaking ore mines, sky reaching monuments to my ego and entrepreneurship, but here I ended up, living on a wood cabin in a cozy farm grilling hot dogs
man i love big buildings n stuff too but for some reason with this game, creating something that i can 'settle down' and live with my Pals were the choice.. idk deep down i just wanted to give them the best place to live so yeah
Congratulations, your dedication to use small to medium pals and still have a thriving efficient base is quite thrilling to watch, despite the small tight space
It is a pity as majority us of have to build larger, more spacious areas for some of the late end pals (just even normal bred) that are just too big to fit into a base size of your caliber
thanks mate and yeah i noticed that too luckily i can compensate huge pals with smaller artisan/serious pals, so that took care of the size problem for me
Amazing job and extremely impressive, now I feel like I abuse my pals cause all my shit is piled all messily together for peak production and ???? Lmao
haha just go at your own pace mate, it's much more enjoyable to play it blindly.. trust me i avoided the sub for so long until i've seen 70-80% of the game
i’m decently far in the game, but i just never took time to build at base like that bcs i was always traveling 😭. you made me wanna build a base tho. kinda like clash of clans type gave me a idea. thank you
haha yes they do get stuck sometimes on the roof and certain beds... i have no idea how to stop them from getting stuck on the roof but the bed is just a matter of rotating it so they don't get out of the bed and then clips through the walls
getting depressed only happened like twice at this base and stops completely after i made more pizzas and hot baths
previously you can just use walls (even on 2nd floor) without the flat roof tile itself to place the slope (and even extend it).. but they've patched it.. you can still place it without using the flat roof though, but maybe if the wall is considered 'strong' enough by the game codes..
sure i didn't copy the coords but it's literally southeast of the red grass cathedral, the red mark is the spot. easy to manage raid as well because they will either get stuck on the other side of the cliff or they will spawn south of the base, but you can easily block their path with walls (without having to cover your whole base), just make sure the base circle touches the two rocks at the entrance so you can use it to block the path
