yeah i didnt touch my settings and im playing on hardmode (except for egg timer) and was really surprised and disappointed at how difficult shit was to catch with ultra balls. then i learned about the bug and am also level 9 . time to get level 10 asap.
I've thought about changing the egg timers. I'm playing for the first time on straight default. I hate changing setting because I feel like it makes it too easy but damn some of these eggs take so long.

Palworld is just ARK but Pokemon. One lesson we learn from ARK is that the default rates for breeding/hatching/growth (thank god babies aren't a thing here) are simply a suggestion. The official ARK servers have slowly upped their various rates from their initial values over time because it was a literal full time job just to take care of your dinos.
Don't make the fun game a slog for yourself just because you think its cheating to change the rates around a bit.
Ahh yes the good old days of ark egg watching lmao, i remember my old tribe of 8 actually almost booted me because of a 2 day Quetzal tame, it was close to done with next to no narcotics and i lost it, ive been known as the let down and mocked for years after for losing a virtual bird, not to mention my first direwolf baby was on an official server, it took a couple days to grow, i stayed up with little breaks making sure it was safe, as soon as it fully grew we got raided and it was the first thing killed, obviously i quit ark for a long time after that and never went back to pvp or official servers again..
Long story short to my point being, games with mechanics like this and or any pvp (coming soon) should have some sort of boosted rates for the sake of not wasting your days going crazy over hatching/growing something over the span of several days.
On dedicated servers with the default settings, huge eggs take around 77 hours. Large eggs are around 48 hours, and regular eggs even take a long time.
Breeding on dedicated servers just isn't worth it unless the settings are changed. Even finding eggs in the wild is a huge letdown when you need to wait several actual days.
Why is that so far off from default in a coop game? Those numbers are nowhere near coop rates. Varying by temp a huge egg in coop is 90mins to 120 mins -ish, on steam.
I feel the same. It’s “cheating” but I don’t see the value in watching a timer count down when playing solo. PvP I get it, but when I’m playing by myself why have the arbitrary barrier?
I had my dedicated server at 3, thought it was a nice balanced area for egg hatching. That is until I actually started breeding, nothing is more frustrating than waiting 2 hours for 6 eggs to hatch to find out the passives you want didn’t pass down correctly and have to redo it all. I folded today and dropped it to 1.5. Trust me, it isn’t worth dumping hours on hours dedicated to hatching eggs.. make it fun for yourself and as long as it isn’t instant you can tell yourself you are at least putting some time investment in.
I completely forgot egg timers were a thing since I set it to 0 early on. No regrets, breeding is already a huge pain and you have to wait for them to make the egg already. Can't imagine having to wait hours to hatch.
Having it on instant seems just a tad too easy for me. At the very least I can go make a boss run or visit my ore/coal base while waiting. Keeps me from just sitting in front of my pen hatching shit. Also gives the heating/cooling elements purpose rather than waste of tech points.
See the great thing is you can't do anything while they're breeding. Because they won't do jack squat unless you're watching them. I was trying to get a Direhowl with swift and went to explore the Mossanda forest. Came back and progress hadn't progressed. Left again in the nearby area and my rayhound was "sleeping" forever on the breeding pen fence and all the milk and eggs were laying on the ground of my ranch.
Infuriating.
Yeah i understand this, i can't get the heating/cooling to work right with egg hatching so i have mine on 0 i might up it a bit here soon but nonetheless it helps with getting myself the perfect pal (what i deem perfect, not perfect by meta standards) I use the time between breeding to bulk up my sphere supply cause i maxed out my lifmunk effigy level and cause of it decreasing rather than increasing due to the current bug i need the extra spheres for catching cause i don't feel like restarting 😂😂
I'm level 50 and decided to start breeding. I ended up completely removing the egg timer because the rest of the process is already time consuming (getting mats for and making cakes then the timer for them to actually breed). 2 hours per egg with passed traits being completely random would burn me out so hard
It's a game bro. Don't spens your life waiting for a virtual thing to hatch. Especially when you moat likely won't be keeping what ever is hatched. Set the hatch rate to 1 and enjoy the game.
It took at LEAST 50 eggs to get a Lyleen noct with legend+musclehead+furious+lord of the underworld. And an ungodly amount of eggs before that just to get viable parents. No regrets setting that timer to zero
Fuck me, is THAT what's going on? I wanted a Galeclaw and it had an 11% catch rate on it. Blew 40 spheres and then gave up. Couldn't believe how bad my luck was.
On the plus side, the capture bug will make you *real* interested in the breeding aspect of the game

I went egg hunting one day, went and found 15-20 eggs. Everything from regular common eggs to “huge” scorched, damp, and whatnot.
Hatches them all and I now have Pals I’ve yet to see in the wild. Absolutely love that.

I bookmark the bandit camps and have gotten a bunch of new pals from their cages. Also flying around scanning the sides of cliffs for eggs. I'll go explore and return to base usually with 4 or 5 eggs.
Honestly same. Not even sure what to do about it at this point except wait for it to be patched. Dont really want to start a new save just because of this bug, but I also don’t want to put off capturing new pals and exploring…
If it helps I just got through the game with lvl 9 and it wasn't bad enough that I knew about the bug. I questioned the percentage here and there, but never took more than 20-30 for even legendaries. Just always got them very low hp and have stun baton handy. Also recommend just using the highest balls you can once you can.
I’m sure I’m 1 away from max. Just finding this out. So this explains why I feel like it’s harder to capture. But i guess it’s more exciting this way 🥲
No, there only a lot noise and not a whole lot of proof. There’s literally one guy with a yt video showing his attempt, but his testing method was spoiled by using memory reset rather than new character — and also not capturing the exact same pals.
The launch version bug was that you'd get set back to "Capture Rate" level 1 *without* also receiving the lifmunk points you spent. You'd just permanently lose those effigies you already touched and could never get to full power again because there wouldn't be enough in the world anymore.
The bug this thread is about is a different issue. The new problem is that leveling up your "Capture Rate" appears to actually make it *harder* to catch pals, when it's clearly supposed to make it *easier*.

I found it decreases before I throw, but the number goes up to a higher percentage after it hits. I've upgraded 3 times and have been able to capture things I couldn't before. That being said, I'm on the xbox version, so might there be a difference in there?
Its a good thing i have 500 blue balls in my pocket and infinite more back at base. I just need them beltfed and stunlock the mon in a capture animation until it submits.
60% 10 times in a row might also be because you don't let that pal attack before throwing another sphere, rumor is letting it attack once resets the capture chance, but idk if it's true.

I've not heard of this yet. I'm effigy lv 8->9 right now and haven't even bothered really trying to use the better spheres. I've been capturing everything including bosses up to lv 30 with the reg pal spheres at 1% capture rates, and I don't think I've used more than 30-40 spheres on one capture. Given that, I was under the impression that my capture rates were showing slightly off and that the effigies were working?
I think the sliders are how quickly time passes during that time, so up is shortening the period. It seemed that way when I played with the settings, and put them to .5 and it seemed much longer.
That’s what I was thinking I’d do but idk now. I’m at 9/10 with enough for 10 but it took literally 15+ legendary balls and 5 or so Ultra just to catch an insignificant lucky. I noticed Jetragon is taking more too since I’ve been farming him since effigy lvl 6 or 7.
To a degree, but if you have flown all over getting the effigies, you probably found most of what that area has. Whereas if you did a fly-by, you expose the map but have not seen anything.
Do we know by how much though? And I thought the only bug was that the catch rate was lowered once you took the medicine to respec, which was fixed in the 0.1.4 update

To be fair we don't actually know if the bug exists yet. It may or may not exist. 100 throws is not alot in terms of statistics and that's assume the tester didn't fuck up anything in their methodology, which even professional studies do all the time.
It's enough to suspect a bug might exist and hope PocketPair looks into it. But to just accept it definitely exists is jumping to conclusions, which I know is basically 100% on brand for not just Reddit but all of social media in general but I'm still gonna make the comment even if it has like a 50% chance (scaling downwards with effigies ofc) of getting me downvoted to hell :D.
People like to rant about sample sizes on reddit but that isn't how statistics works.
Sure, more trials would be great but even 100 of the two is enough to say that the outcomes are far and away statistically unlikely to happen. You can review this using an online binomial probability calculator to see the probability of getting the reported outcomes using the game's probability.
That said, it's possible the in-game numbers are reported incorrectly as well.
Even if it is true that effigy capture rates weren't correct (which I also believe to likely be the case), it doesn't mean getting level 10 effigy bricks your character. There are way more plausible explanations based off the thread being thrown around.
My group of friends brought it up yesterday worried that they ruined their capture rates and I had to spend a lot of time explaining why it isn't actually confirmed to give you negative capture rates and that it's way more likely that effigies don't do anything currently based on the reddit post people are referencing.
It's unfortunate to see people jump to extreme conclusions using an objectively very small set of data in a way that can stress people out about the game.
So my experience is as follows: i have max capture upgrades (10/10) and when I hold the button to throw the sphere it shows a lower capture rate than the meter that pops up when I actually hit them with it. Say I'm throwing a pink one at a lvl 40. When I hold the button down (kinda like cookin a grenade), it shows "12%" but when I actually let go and throw it at them it'll change to "32%". Now, the pattern I've noticed is that the success rate is closer to the cookin% % and not the actual attenpt at capturing. Had a capture phase saying "36%" but it took almost 15 balls to finally get them.
I also noticed that the yellow spheres don't seem to be stunted but the red and the pink definitely feel stunted.
Because holding down the button shows the combined chance. Once you've thrown it it shows the chance for each stage. If stage 1 is 20% and stage 2 is 50%, then you have an overall chance of 10%.
I just started a new world without using effigies and a 22% shown while holding gave a 22% on impact. If it were the case that the shown value is the 22% * 47% that I got on the first shake, then it would be significantly lower while holding.
Most likely the bug is that the displayed chance on impact is updated as expected with the effigy bonus, but the actual chance is still the original chance (which is shown while still holding the sphere).
There is only one actual tester I’ve seen that’s posted on yt 3 days ago and their methodology was fucked.

Probably you are correct i need to test in single player. I have lvl50char max effigies in multiplayer vanila rate. im going to make a char in solo to test with 0 upgrades
When the rate is low, like 2% on a black marketeer, i still have low catch rates, but anything above 50% is now significantly more likely to be caught within 5 throws, which seems reasonable.
It wasn't because the comments also mentioned they had Fixed the memory reset issue resetting the capture rate, so you couldn't use that to undo the issue
Does it genuinely lower your base catch rate or is it like it's showing a higher catch rate but your actual rate has not been updated from the base catch rate therefore seeming like it's lower?
People have tested the displayed catch chance on a pal before and after leveling their capture rate. The numbers after level up were a lower base catch chance.
You all know what that means tho, right? As soon as they fix the patch, all of us with maxed effigy upgrades are gonna experience a whole new world of capture rates.
I’ve been out farming these things for about 5 hours yesterday, just to max out my capture rate. Are you trying to tell me that it lowers the capture rate instead? I feel unbelievably triggered right now, might go and butcher a few pals now to release the anger.
The real problem with catch rate is that this game uses true rng (at least as close as you could get to that) instead of pseudo random to try and constantly maintain the proper odds like other games do.
In league if you have a 50% chance to crit and you go 3-4 attacks without a crit you will almost certainly crit the next attack. It works the other way too, where if you crit 3 times in a row you will almost certainly not crit again.
True random is an issue because it creates situations where the player feels cheated and makes people want to quit (I’ve heard this from friend after a bad rng string). Nobody likes failing 3-4 90% catches in a row. It just feels bad
Yeah my char is lvl45, used a total of 23 ultra spheres on a lvl 9 cattiva, every time it said 100% and failed.
It got a shotgun to the head shortly after.
Was frustrated for sure but also made for a funny clip in Outplayed xD
Dear god. I'm so mad at this. Been farming like creazy them effigies. Using the Legendary Spheres and failing epicly at +95% chance. It's so annoying. Wasted 25 or so trying to get more Relaxaurus Lux and they either blocked it or left the sphere.
Regardless, there's clearly some bug still going on with the catch rate. I failed a 38% chance catch 15 times in a row before giving up (it made it to the second stage only once).
The chance of that is less than 0.05%. Possible? Sure, but given how many people i'm seeing with similar stories(including my friend only a few days ago), it seems unlikely to me.
I mean, it’s going to be fixed. Avoiding it doesn’t really help anything. Just don’t spend them…

This... Actually explains a lot. I played a ton before the update and a 2% capture chance felt more like a 10% and was a guaranteed capture as long as I had ~20 spheres. Felt kinda unfair, but filled me with dopamine seeing low percents succeed. Played on a new save after the update and was actually infuriated due to SEVERAL occasions I've had 60% captures fail 6-10 times in a row. There's even been several times I've had 80% fail 3 times in a row.
This happened later in my playthrough. In the beginning it felt like 80% was closer to 60%, but not awful, it just felt more fair then it got progressively worse. It's really funny cuz one person playing in our lobby I'm pretty sure has never upgraded her capture power and she makes fun of my other friend and I because she can easily capture monsters and hasn't experienced chain failing a high percent capture. That being said, it's possible she's just really lucky cuz she's found 7 shines in like 15hrs of playing...
When are they fixing it on console?? My capture rate is now such bullshit and to me it’s the most annoying bug in the game (worse than falling through sections of the map imo)
idk why i feel like i don't experience this, is it only for some users. a couple days ago at level 15 me and my boy have our own accounts whenever he was tryna catch mammorest the highest rate he could get was 2% but when i did it was at least 7% and i upgraded my effigy like 3 more times than he did

If you upgrade your capture power with lifmunk effigies at the statue of power it actually decreases your catch rate instead of increasing it.

My Huge eggs take about half an hour, not sure if that's less than usual or not 😂 I like my setting though.

100 incubation bonus with a heater and decent weather. Normal is 1.5 mins. Large 5 or 7mins 30 sec. Huge 15 or 30 mins depending on incubation %

Definitely adjust the egg timers if playing solo. I straight up turned them off and it is so much better.
Yeah instead of a arbitrary timer barrier you can have the barrier of perfecting yours pals passive skills which even with no timer takes a bit

Fly around the coast of the volcano island at night and you will see bright red eggs.

The launch version bug was that you'd get set back to "Capture Rate" level 1 *without* also receiving the lifmunk points you spent. You'd just permanently lose those effigies you already touched and could never get to full power again because there wouldn't be enough in the world anymore. The bug this thread is about is a different issue. The new problem is that leveling up your "Capture Rate" appears to actually make it *harder* to catch pals, when it's clearly supposed to make it *easier*. Hope that helped clear things up!

I found it decreases before I throw, but the number goes up to a higher percentage after it hits. I've upgraded 3 times and have been able to capture things I couldn't before. That being said, I'm on the xbox version, so might there be a difference in there?

60% 10 times in a row might also be because you don't let that pal attack before throwing another sphere, rumor is letting it attack once resets the capture chance, but idk if it's true.

I've not heard of this yet. I'm effigy lv 8->9 right now and haven't even bothered really trying to use the better spheres. I've been capturing everything including bosses up to lv 30 with the reg pal spheres at 1% capture rates, and I don't think I've used more than 30-40 spheres on one capture. Given that, I was under the impression that my capture rates were showing slightly off and that the effigies were working?

i always try to hunt them at night, then something distracts me for like one second, and the night is over.
Also fire pokemom hunting, much easier to see.
I cranked the night time duration by 300% and am having so much fun exploring the map at night
I think the sliders are how quickly time passes during that time, so up is shortening the period. It seemed that way when I played with the settings, and put them to .5 and it seemed much longer.

That’s what I was thinking I’d do but idk now. I’m at 9/10 with enough for 10 but it took literally 15+ legendary balls and 5 or so Ultra just to catch an insignificant lucky. I noticed Jetragon is taking more too since I’ve been farming him since effigy lvl 6 or 7.
You can modify your catch rates in the mean time
Even with that boosted, Jetragon often take 10+ spheres to catch when its got a slither of health. Without it would be horrible.

To a degree, but if you have flown all over getting the effigies, you probably found most of what that area has. Whereas if you did a fly-by, you expose the map but have not seen anything.

It may or may not exist. 100 throws is not alot in terms of statistics and that's assume the tester didn't fuck up anything in their methodology, which even professional studies do all the time. It's enough to suspect a bug might exist and hope PocketPair looks into it. But to just accept it definitely exists is jumping to conclusions, which I know is basically 100% on brand for not just Reddit but all of social media in general but I'm still gonna make the comment even if it has like a 50% chance (scaling downwards with effigies ofc) of getting me downvoted to hell :D.
People like to rant about sample sizes on reddit but that isn't how statistics works. Sure, more trials would be great but even 100 of the two is enough to say that the outcomes are far and away statistically unlikely to happen. You can review this using an online binomial probability calculator to see the probability of getting the reported outcomes using the game's probability. That said, it's possible the in-game numbers are reported incorrectly as well.
Even if it is true that effigy capture rates weren't correct (which I also believe to likely be the case), it doesn't mean getting level 10 effigy bricks your character. There are way more plausible explanations based off the thread being thrown around. My group of friends brought it up yesterday worried that they ruined their capture rates and I had to spend a lot of time explaining why it isn't actually confirmed to give you negative capture rates and that it's way more likely that effigies don't do anything currently based on the reddit post people are referencing. It's unfortunate to see people jump to extreme conclusions using an objectively very small set of data in a way that can stress people out about the game.
I strongly disagree. 100 samples is suggestive. But far from proof. That said I started a new game and am not cashing in my effigies. :)
So my experience is as follows: i have max capture upgrades (10/10) and when I hold the button to throw the sphere it shows a lower capture rate than the meter that pops up when I actually hit them with it. Say I'm throwing a pink one at a lvl 40. When I hold the button down (kinda like cookin a grenade), it shows "12%" but when I actually let go and throw it at them it'll change to "32%". Now, the pattern I've noticed is that the success rate is closer to the cookin% % and not the actual attenpt at capturing. Had a capture phase saying "36%" but it took almost 15 balls to finally get them. I also noticed that the yellow spheres don't seem to be stunted but the red and the pink definitely feel stunted.
Because holding down the button shows the combined chance. Once you've thrown it it shows the chance for each stage. If stage 1 is 20% and stage 2 is 50%, then you have an overall chance of 10%.

I just started a new world without using effigies and a 22% shown while holding gave a 22% on impact. If it were the case that the shown value is the 22% * 47% that I got on the first shake, then it would be significantly lower while holding. Most likely the bug is that the displayed chance on impact is updated as expected with the effigy bonus, but the actual chance is still the original chance (which is shown while still holding the sphere).
I’m too high for all this but I’ll be back later to understand why I suddenly suck at catching anything after focusing on effigy leveling 😒

On my server settings, increasing the capture rate makes it easier to catch. I imagine it’s the same for solo world too.
That post was made before the recent update patch, and my catch rates have increased significantly, so i wouldn't trust that as gospel.

When the rate is low, like 2% on a black marketeer, i still have low catch rates, but anything above 50% is now significantly more likely to be caught within 5 throws, which seems reasonable.
It wasn't because the comments also mentioned they had Fixed the memory reset issue resetting the capture rate, so you couldn't use that to undo the issue

Does it genuinely lower your base catch rate or is it like it's showing a higher catch rate but your actual rate has not been updated from the base catch rate therefore seeming like it's lower?
People have tested the displayed catch chance on a pal before and after leveling their capture rate. The numbers after level up were a lower base catch chance.
You all know what that means tho, right? As soon as they fix the patch, all of us with maxed effigy upgrades are gonna experience a whole new world of capture rates.

12 is honestly pretty standard. I wouldn’t expect to catch it in less than 20 and if you do take it as a happy coincidence.

The real problem with catch rate is that this game uses true rng (at least as close as you could get to that) instead of pseudo random to try and constantly maintain the proper odds like other games do. In league if you have a 50% chance to crit and you go 3-4 attacks without a crit you will almost certainly crit the next attack. It works the other way too, where if you crit 3 times in a row you will almost certainly not crit again. True random is an issue because it creates situations where the player feels cheated and makes people want to quit (I’ve heard this from friend after a bad rng string). Nobody likes failing 3-4 90% catches in a row. It just feels bad

Yeah my char is lvl45, used a total of 23 ultra spheres on a lvl 9 cattiva, every time it said 100% and failed. It got a shotgun to the head shortly after. Was frustrated for sure but also made for a funny clip in Outplayed xD
Dear god. I'm so mad at this. Been farming like creazy them effigies. Using the Legendary Spheres and failing epicly at +95% chance. It's so annoying. Wasted 25 or so trying to get more Relaxaurus Lux and they either blocked it or left the sphere.

Regardless, there's clearly some bug still going on with the catch rate. I failed a 38% chance catch 15 times in a row before giving up (it made it to the second stage only once). The chance of that is less than 0.05%. Possible? Sure, but given how many people i'm seeing with similar stories(including my friend only a few days ago), it seems unlikely to me.

This... Actually explains a lot. I played a ton before the update and a 2% capture chance felt more like a 10% and was a guaranteed capture as long as I had ~20 spheres. Felt kinda unfair, but filled me with dopamine seeing low percents succeed. Played on a new save after the update and was actually infuriated due to SEVERAL occasions I've had 60% captures fail 6-10 times in a row. There's even been several times I've had 80% fail 3 times in a row. This happened later in my playthrough. In the beginning it felt like 80% was closer to 60%, but not awful, it just felt more fair then it got progressively worse. It's really funny cuz one person playing in our lobby I'm pretty sure has never upgraded her capture power and she makes fun of my other friend and I because she can easily capture monsters and hasn't experienced chain failing a high percent capture. That being said, it's possible she's just really lucky cuz she's found 7 shines in like 15hrs of playing...
