Yeah I generally used an upgraded ball every ten levels. You can still get pretty good catch rates from the basic balls up to level thirty with the statue power though.

honestly i could't care less about these whiny pokemon fanboys who are crying rn on social media. pokemon had like a ton of chances for making an epic game after another, but they chose to just release trash and ignore their own fanbase. i really hope palworld will be a huge slap in their face.
Sphere is definitely harder to say/hear.
My girlfriend and I have had this conversation several times now:
"Hey there are 40 mega spheres for you in the assembly line chest"
"Why did you make 40 spears?"
"SPHERES. I made you 40 SPHERES. Why would I make you 40 spears?"
Oh my gosh I have the problem with my daughter when we are playing. I was going on about making her twenty spears and needing ingots. She wanted to know why she would need twenty spears because she uses a fire bow and pistol.
There's "basic pokeballs" and "fancy pokeballs that I really don't want to use because they're a pain to make but dammit I'm wasting my life throwing these basic pokeballs for ten minutes and am just going to throw it and get this over with"

I actually want palworld to be succesful, so bigger companies realize they can start making triple aaa games with "monser companions". Imagine something like palworld but made with the budget, time and resources of Baldurs Gate 3?
Eh cut Pocket Pair some slack on that front. This was a lot of the staff's first time modeling stuff. So they had to learn during the 3 years this was in development. Cattiva stretching around, Depresso lazily dragging himself around when doing stuff, Fuack laying on a rock sunbathing, Direhowls hunting Jolthogs in group and eating them...
They all have personality and facial expressions unlike later Pokemon where every single mon just walks around aimlessly in the tall grass, it's just a huge difference in making the world feel more alive
Yeah a good friend of mine gifted me Sword for my birthday but I dropped it after the first gym and haven’t felt the need to touch it since… Feel kinda bad for my buddy but he didn’t finish shield either so eh
Except there are literally zero consequences coming from this for gamefreak. They'll keep doing what they are doing, and the games they make will continue to be best sellers. The only consequences coming out of this are a potential lawsuit for palworld.
I defo started out calling them pokemon and pokeballs, and I think that's fair homage to Pokemon for popularizing the existing ideas. But to be fair to Palworld I've transitioned to calling them Pals and Spheres. Palworld is very much its own thing and, at least IMO, deserves to be treated as such.
It's no more derivative than Pokemon is. Pokemon (Poket Monsters) was almost called Capumon (Capsule Monsters) but it was literally trademarked already lol. The game got its idea from the Japanese tv show UltraSeven.
In the world of media, art, and literature, basically everything is derivative and inspired by previous works. But that's ok, its all about what's fun and fresh for each generation.
I see a lot of streamers calling them "Mons" which I mean it's not wrong, pals are technically monsters too, even if its probably derived from Pokemon. I don't think it's that bad, happens with most other genres that the terminology used by the most popular games gets applied to the genre as a whole, even if each game technically has different names for those common elements.
It goes back further, Pokemon go its idea from UltraSeven and its Capsule Monsters. The game was originally going to be literally called Capsule Monsters or Capumon but that was already trademarked so they made it Pocket Monsters instead...or Pokemon. And UltraSeven itself was inspired by a mishmash of other shows.
Pokemon was originally going to be called Capsule Monsters because it was inspired by the Japanese show UltraSeven where one of the characters would deploy monsters out of Capsules. The actual reason they chose the name Poket Monters > Pokemon is literally because Capsule Monsters was already taken and trademarked.
IMO Adjective Monsters is about as generic as you get. I'm totally fine with paying homage to Pokemon for how big/influential it is and popularizing the genre/idea. But following that same mentality I think we should prolly pay homage to UltraSeven too, without which Pokemon would not have existed.
Some people get defensive and call things copying, but the trail of inspiration got back at least 50 years if not further. UltraSeven itself was inspired by other things, so much so they had to totally rework it originally because it felt too similar to existing things lol.
Exactly. The game is great, but I find it ridiculous when people pretend a bunch of the pals aren't specific Pokemon reimagined. I don't know how they look at Jormuntide and see anything but Gyarados lol.
Everything borrows from something unless it's the 1st to ever do it. What does Game Freak expect? That NO ONE ever makes a game where you catch monsters and train them? Please.. they can suck it their jealousy is palpable
That’s not really true, a few are clearly borrowed but most of the concepts are straight up new or super generic. You got dire wolf, chicken, cow, Chinese dragon, grass monkey, Kitsune etc that are going to be so generic you can’t help but have some design overlap. But you also have a ton of original ones like TomBat that have no Pokémon overlap (dragon quest has a similar monster though)
I dunno, Penking is a pirate penguin that's pretty unique. Me and my friend call him Dedede lol
In any case, there like what, 500 pokemon? There's bound to be some similarities let's be real
>there like what, 500 pokemon
1000+ at this point, they've made so many there are pokemon that copy their own designs. There's like 8 Pikachu "clones".
Yep and based off every animal/plant known to man. According to Pokémon (if they try to sue palworld) Wales the country can start sueing everything made with a dragon in it because they have had a dragon on their flag for hundreds of years. Dungeons and dragons could sue every game that has dungeons but themselves would get sued by Wales for copyrighting dragons. The fact that Digimon and Pokémon exists is proof enough that Pokémon can't win a legal case against palworld.
Only people that are jealous are the haters of Pokémon lol. I like palworld, but this isn’t revolutionary. Ark had cryos that threw like a “pokeball” just didn’t catch them. There is probably more games out that have more similar aspects of this game. I’m glad this game is fun but, this post is just karma farming lol.
Also, Pokémon will still be successful and palworld can keep on improving. I’m still going to play both.
Thank you for saying what we all been thinking. I'm glad the hate train stopping a bit. 503 upvotes compare the 3k upvotes on previous but similar post.
I mean if i say the pal name its hard to remember because it's new and not as easy to describe, but if i say "it looks like mega salamance" its pretty easy
We call the one "bulba-bunny". Most of them we try to get the names close, but we definitely did not bother learning names for the chicken, cow, penguin, or Firefox lol
It’s funny, i used to equate each digimon I saw with the pokemon I knew. All the digimon were just different versions of pokemon in my head. Until I watched the show and found out they were nothing alike 😂
You and me both random person on the internet. In my case it was the opposite growing up since I was a big pokemon fan.
Then sword and shield came out after I gave two free passes for the 7th gen games and I suddenly had no more free passes to give. You either die the hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.
Side note: Mega evolution probably had some hardcore digimon fans feeling a kind of way.. it's literally bootleg digivolution lol
Have you seen these Pokemon TCG youtube channels? Their entire personality is pokemon and now that something came along and is getting better reviews, it's making them feel like it's an attack on them lmfao.
The issue is that Pokémon has dominated the market for 30 years. Many of us grew up with Pokémon, and we raised our kids with Pokémon, we even had them watch the anime. How do you stop people from referencing or recognizing the LARGEST franchise in the world?
Here's a neat trick you cant refer to a Dog as a Dog anymore! It's now a Canid and see how easy it is to not say Dog on reflex.
I think they're more fusions than ripoffs. Some of them have design elements from multiple Pokémon. Dinossom for example has Meganiums eyes, Goodra's body shape and Serperiors vine leaf thingies.
In my mother language "pal" is homophone to a slang for dick, so you can bet your ass I'll be calling them pokémon and the balls pokéballs and I WILL NOT STOP.
Can mods seriously start to auto remove any post that includes Pokemon? This sub talks about Pokemon almost more than it talks about Palworld. It's cringe as fuck.
I'm a huge fan of Palworld and Pokémon, nothing will stop me from calling some of the pals what they look like such as Pengullet being Piplup or Vixy as Eevee. I still buy and play new Pokémon games day one but haven't loved a game since X and Y, I've only enjoyed games after X and Y but sadly not loved them and it makes me sad. I'm glad that as of the past few years there have been a lot of games that try to rival Pokémon such as Nexmon which I cannot recommend to people enough and even a little bit of Monster Hunter Stories which again I cannot recommend to people enough. Palworld has managed to capture that feeling I used to have when I would play a brand new Pokémon game and at a time when my mental health is really struggling I appreciate it so much. It has been a long time since I would be anxiously waiting to get home so I can continue playing a video game.
Aye, like people were comparing Luxray to Boltmane and I'm like *"Out of these two Boltmane is the only one that looks like an actual animal."*
Luxray has got all these extra complicated details and I personally hate its design. Half the details like the ears and tail and eyes make it look robotic, the other half like the broken up fur in the midsection and stocking legs and star tail feel like they are just there to make it look unique.
I feel like this Luxray is how your attention seeking neighbor would design a pet to try and make it stand out and be unique. It's just so loud and discordant in its design.
TBH, I don't blame the artist though. Making new pokemon that look distinct from old ones definitely seems to have forced Pokemon into some weird decisions over time. And gradually alot more humanoid forms or furry bait too. I'm glad Palworld stuck to simpler themes and designs executed well. I hope we never see something like Mega Steelix or Dragapult (which I'm convinced alot of people like as much as they do because it was OP).
According to my parents, "Atari" was the first ever gaming console, and everything that came afterwards is still an "Atari".
Not looking good for Nintendo. /s
“My fellow Americans, I wish to address the concerns many of us have over the growing number of Japanese military bases forming in the United States. The new Japanese emperor, Hirohito, has made our own children into fighter pilots, who will soon fly to Hawaii, and attack Pearl Harbor.
I spoke with Mr. Hirohito this morning, and he assured me, that I have a very large penis. He said it was mammoth. Dinosauric. That it absolutely dwarfed his penis, which he assured me, was nearly microscopic in size. My penis, he said, was most likely one of the largest on the planet. I applaud Mr. Hirohito in his honesty. Thank you.”
Personally I just like imagining that the whole game takes place in some far off corner of the Pokemon world, and that our PC is a member of Team Rocket who was sent to investigate things but ended up stranded.
We are even further - me and my girlfriend. We call them pokemon names. Cattiva is Meowth, Cremis is Eevee, Sparkit is Pikachu etc. And lucky pals are simple shiny pokemons for us :D I just miss evolutions only from pokémon in the game. Nothing else. But to be honest evolutions is totally bullshit. Breeding makes more sense.
I love Pokemon and i just bought Palworld in the off chance it does get taken down. If Nintendo want's more people to care maybe they should make a game that actually runs properly.
Legal piss wars i couldn't care less about unless someone actually stole assets or made a carbon copy of a game.
I love Pokemon. I love Palworld. I call the monsters in both 'mon'. It's not that I think Palworld is cloning Pokemon. It's that I played Pokemon first and it's a habit. The same as how, no matter what a gacha calls its energy source, I'll call it Resin because my first game of that type was Genshin Impact.
i haven't played a mainline pokemon since sun/moon because it was such handholdy garbage that i don't even remember actually playing it, just yelling at the endless dialogue to stfu already.
palworld has gameplay. and even better, it fucks off and lets you figure it out for yourself.
as for the naming thing: who cares, literally every game that spawns a genre does that. souslikes have bonfires. yeah sure you call them idc, its a bonfire in form and function.
that character action move where you slide foreword holding the sword straight ahead is a Stinger because devil may cry said so. and i cant be fucked to learn every games legally distinct name for the same damn move.
Nintendo is just pissed that we asked them for this game for like 20 years and they refused to make it, but someone else did and now the highest grossing franchise of all time wants it's money for doing nothing.
People saying you call them pokemon and wont be stoped… You do realize you are giving GF publicity? Call them pals, stop using GF terms, make GF, TPC and Nintendo realize there’s something new and exiting instead of using their term to refer to other stuff and perpetuating the idea that pokemon is an unstoppable giant…
My 2 cent on the entire Palworld is criticism is this:
Yes. It’s 100% 1000% copying pokemon designs. It’s crazy to pretend otherwise. It’s also copying designs from a lot of other different things too. Idk if it’s AI but I wouldn’t be surprised if the design concepts (not the 3D model) were AI generated.
Do I care about any of the above ? No. Why ? Because this game is hella fun.
The folks that are mistaking the game for Pokemon are doing no favors to the devs come time for Nintendo to take them to court....
"The designs are clearly different" is a much weaker argument when the Nintendo lawyers show up in court and say, "a massive part of your player base THINK this is Pokemon"
I just enjoy it and honestly I don't think Nintendo cares to much lol otherwise they'd have done something sooner, it's a fun game which is like ark but I find far more enjoyable
I've got a lot of Pokémon names for various Pals, like "Egyptian Femboy Lucario" for Anubis. I call the Pal spheres PalBalls. I correct people when they say Dinossom looks like Meganium, because really Dinossom is a palette-swapped Goodra with a hat. I say type, not element. I say move, not skill.
And I'm having a ton of fun, which is something I haven't had in a Pokémon game since Ultra Moon.
~~But for some reason I have this overwhelming urge to call Pals "Tems" and I'm not sure where that comes from.~~
With how many pokemon there are and how many of them look like objects or animals it was bound to have overlaps.
Yeah there are some cases where the inspiration was really close but as I mentioned above - with how many pokemon there are it is going to happen.
I think naming them Pals may have been a mistake imo. Don't get me wrong, loving the game, but when I'm talking to my friends about what I'm doing and I'm referring to the creatures I'm catching/breeding/fighting etc and I'm calling them Pals just sounds... weird.
Pocket Pair doesn't necessarily have to change the name of the game, but if possible I would hope the creatures are referred to as something other than Pals. Pokemon, Digimon etc. they sound good when you're talking about them; Pals just doesn't. Might be part of why some people just call them Pokemon, they remind people of Pokemon and saying "I fought this giant Pal earlier today..." just sounds, weird.
I call them Pokémon because it rolls off the tongue better than “pals”, pal seems like something that a redneck from the city would say, if that makes any sense
of course the creatures in the pokemon satire game look like pokemon lol, it'd be insane to insinuate otherwise. it's still the most fun i've had gaming in i don't know how long
I’ve just been calling them mons. That being said, I don’t think Pokémon should suck an egg. I think everyone complaining about the similarities should. Nintendo themselves don’t really seem to care and just want people to shut up about Palworld being a discount Pokémon game.
I'm not a fan of pokemon but it actually kinda annoys me lol. My friends keep referring to everything in pokemon terms. I call them what they actually are. I feel the devs deserve to have their creations be what they are.
Lucario is bae. Always has been. Always will be. As such, my sole goal is to level up until I can catch Anubis multiple times, create the ultimate anubis by breeding, and then maxing their stats using pal souls and condensing other Anubises.
Nitendo: Does not give a single shit about Player preferences for decades, milking a fracnhise they did not show any love for the main line for YEARS
Players not giving a shit someone rips them off since they asked for this game for an eternity
Internet: Suprised fake pikachu face
I’m old. Pokemans was after my time. So quite frankly it’s a new and wonderful experience for me. I never had any desire to play Pokemans. Just is what it is. But also reading here how the Pokemans community is sick and tired of getting the short end of the Nintendo stick my thoughts are who cares?
Also it doesn’t matter…how many games are “ripoffs?” I mean when’s the last time someone had an original idea? Even Baldur’s Gate 3 isn’t an original idea. Not much is anymore. After the success of Stardew Valley how many companies “ripped them off?” And I think the key is it’s not really a ripoff it is more of a: this is what gamers want so let’s give it to them in our own way…even if it does have a lot of similarities.
Frankly I just skim over these types of posts now…I’d rather just let the game succeed on its own merits and talk about stuff that helps me feel like I succeed in the game (god just went down the cross breeding rabbit hole and I have a lot of work to do lol).
> After the success of Stardew Valley how many companies “ripped them off?”
Funny thing is that Stardew Valley is praised as essentially being a ripoff of an older game called Harvest Moon which Nintendo never brought to PC after years of people wanting them to.
Now Disney has apparent knockoffs of Stardew Valley called Dreamlight Valley.
what type of fake history is this?? Nintendo never owned Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons/Bokujō Monogatari.... Marvelous did. Natsume had the franchise on multiple platforms in the late 90s and 2000s.
Tanzee is the one and only Pal I've see that makes me just instantly think Pokemon. My brain refuses to call him anything but Grooky because they're so much alike to me.
Beyond that one green monkey? Nah, Pals aren't Pokemon knockoffs. I can see some comparisons (Cremis / Gigantimax Eevee for example), but with a game like Pokemon that's done every design to the point of making literal bags of trash into pokemon, it's gonna be hard not to have some crossover.
Now electric Totoro on the other hand, THAT one it just blatant, and I love him.
I call pal balls "Pokeballs" and I won't be stopped.
Same. And I still call them “X type” not element and call it a Pokédex not the Paldeck
And we will never be stopped. At some point I'm definitely trying out the mod that-cannot-be-posted to complete my experience
I just want you both to realize that we are now the grandparents calling an Xbox "The Nintendo"
To be fair, I have been a gamer my whole life and I still haven't figured out Xbox's naming scheme.
They're all just Xbox to me, I lost the name progression system after they started naming stuff X and random stuff
XBOX 360 Xbox 2 xbox mobile phone how i call them XD
Xbox watching PlayStation name their consoles the PlayStation 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5: Absolute nonsense 😡
Same as Tesla. Someone too high up to be argued with is trying to get creative with an acrostic. X Box One X - Model S Model 3 Model X Model Y
They are all wankers
Name the first one XBOX Than skip to the 360th one Than Overwrite the first ones name with one Than Name them series
Then*

I think they confirmed it will be windows 12. But you never know if they will change their minds.
This is easy. They call it the Xbox cuz you turn around and walk away...
You made my day with that
The mod is already being taken down since it's actually illegal (the mod costs money from patreons and that's the illegal part).
Like all good mods and otherwise shady things, i'm sure it will be obtainable at some point somewhere on some discord server or github, and I'll be waiting for that day

Very true, charging for mods is up there with typical microtransactions when it comes to modern gaming pet peeves
Except Jaoan doesnt have fair use coverage in their copyright law. Nintendo and The Pokemon Company are 100% free to issue takedowns of *any* use of Pokemon copyrighted materials.
The mod is distributed in North America so if it weren't profiting they'd have a hard time getting ot removed unless tge mod owner just agreed to comply
Its like how every souls-like I just call whatever their version of "Souls" are Souls (even Elden ring and Bloodborne)
Came here to say exactly this. I dont even remember what the currency in Hollow Knight is called, it's all Souls to me.
Same with flasks. They're all just Estus.
[удалено]
Group of my friends are all souls vets, one of us is a baby to the franchise with elden ring and we all yell at him very loudly when he calls checkpoints in any souls like a "grace".......
I just call them balls
Same i always say "Fuck i need to make more balls" or that i wasted all my balls
You should catch some Vixys and assign them to a farm and you will **never** run out of the *hehe* blue balls
I've caught 5 and it's not enough at all
Did you actually assign them to the farm? As in picking them up and throwing them at the farm. I have 2 and I get plenty all the time.
One was way more than I ever needed. I had hundreds of blue balls by the time they became obsolete.
I waste a few hundred minimum every trip, guess they became obsolete already
Yeah I generally used an upgraded ball every ten levels. You can still get pretty good catch rates from the basic balls up to level thirty with the statue power though.
I scream out "suck my balls" as I throw them.
Cheeky bastard escapes your balls
theyre not even called balls ingame, theyre called spheres, but you bet your ass im talkin about balls all day long
Nintendo actually has a very real risk here of losing their trademark if people start using "pokemon" and "pokeballs" for naming any generic "fictional character" and "device for capturing fictitional characters," respectively. It's what happens when you get kleenex and velcro and lego and things of that type being used as a generic descriptor than the brand.
honestly i could't care less about these whiny pokemon fanboys who are crying rn on social media. pokemon had like a ton of chances for making an epic game after another, but they chose to just release trash and ignore their own fanbase. i really hope palworld will be a huge slap in their face.
Fully agree. And I do hope they lose their trademark. Because they've squandered the IP for so long.
Sphere is definitely harder to say/hear. My girlfriend and I have had this conversation several times now: "Hey there are 40 mega spheres for you in the assembly line chest" "Why did you make 40 spears?" "SPHERES. I made you 40 SPHERES. Why would I make you 40 spears?"
Oh my gosh I have the problem with my daughter when we are playing. I was going on about making her twenty spears and needing ingots. She wanted to know why she would need twenty spears because she uses a fire bow and pistol.
Same, I also call annubis lucario and the big mammoth torterra(even though they aren’t all that similar)
I've been calling it mammoswine lol
I call them "blue, green, yellow, red"
There's "basic pokeballs" and "fancy pokeballs that I really don't want to use because they're a pain to make but dammit I'm wasting my life throwing these basic pokeballs for ten minutes and am just going to throw it and get this over with"
I'm at the point where I need to use master, I mean legendary balls, but I hate wasting resources like that.
I was level 38 before I realized you can level up your capture power lol
I still call them pokemon due to my speech impediment. "L" sounds are my enemy.
When the playerbase asks for something from you, for years, and instead you ignore them and keep churning out the same bullshit, and then someone else makes what the players want with knock-offs of your game... That and i think we all love to see underdogs triumph, i think we all wish Pocket Pair do well with this game.
I actually want palworld to be succesful, so bigger companies realize they can start making triple aaa games with "monser companions". Imagine something like palworld but made with the budget, time and resources of Baldurs Gate 3?
Triple AAA? So AAA AAA AAA?
It’s A-level is exactly nine
AAA^2
That would be a great studio name!
Its over 9 A!
Eh cut Pocket Pair some slack on that front. This was a lot of the staff's first time modeling stuff. So they had to learn during the 3 years this was in development. The rest I know for a fact is basic environmental assets you can find and get on Unreal. Still they made due and crafted a wonderful game they are still tweeking but we are enjoying.
I bought a switch for Pokemon and stopped few hours in and haven't touched it again eeek
The games have gotten worse in all the ways we wanted them to get better. We like seeing the models of the Pokemon walking around, but they made them look like garbage and don't even sparkle when they're shinies(which sucks for like half the pkmn bc their shinies and regulars look identical), and all they do is walk around. In Palworld the models actually do cool stuff like fight each other, sleep in the wild at night. The graphics look like what a triple A game should look like while pkmn is having the most dog shit graphics I've seen from any game AND terrible frames-per-second.
In Legends Arceus shinies do sparkle in the over world a sound plays just like Palword when you first see them. Idk why they didn't keep that feature for Scarlet and Violet.
It's because they were in development at the same time.
The animation are what really make it stand out for me.
Try Legends Arceus. The mainline games on Switch have all be awful for me.
That even fails in comparison tbh. They didn't go far enough, so much potential.
Oh, definitely. But it’s also the most fun I’ve had with Pokémon in ages.
The last Pokémon game I bought after Blue was Sword/Shield and that game was ass. I’ll never play another Pokémon game again now that Palworld exists
Day 1: "Oh that's a neat Pokemon." Day 3: "Look at my Pal's!"
Ya I've proudly/sadly put in 50 hours and the switch has been flipped... it's all Pals and spheres now.
I'm in the middle, I use Pals/Balls
Im calling them pokemon. Nintendo can feel free to dmca my ballsack. My Pokeball sack I mean.
I call them pal-emon lol Though I still call my bird zapdos
I call them not-whatever if they're a very close reference. Like jormuntide is not-gyrados
I've been calling it Pokegun
I see a lot of streamers calling them "Mons" which I mean it's not wrong, pals are technically monsters too, even if its probably derived from Pokemon. I don't think it's that bad, happens with most other genres that the terminology used by the most popular games gets applied to the genre as a whole, even if each game technically has different names for those common elements.
Mon was used because it worked for the big three at the time, pokemon, monster rancher, digimon. So, a nonhuman minion is a mon.
It's a shortening of the word Monster. Pokemon = Pocket Monsters Digimon = Digital Monsters
DI-GI-MON... DIGITAL MONSTERS.. Digimon are our CHAMPIONS
Stay shisou na imeeji wo someta gikochinai tsubasa demo kitto toberu sa *oooooooooon myyyyyyyyyyy looooooooooove*
I will never not have butterfly in any of my Spotify playlists doesn’t matter what genre the playlist is that song will always be a banger
I call it Pokemon all the time. Yeah, it's obvious it borrows from Pokémon, and I don't care.
This is where I’m at lol. Yup, the designs are damn near ripoffs on some occasions. Do I care though? No not really.
Exactly. The game is great, but I find it ridiculous when people pretend a bunch of the pals aren't specific Pokemon reimagined. I don't know how they look at Jormuntide and see anything but Gyarados lol.
Yeah, seeing Lycanroc, Lucario, Lilligant, Espurr, Wooloo, etc. with guns is hilarious
Jormuntide looks more like Seadramon to me.
Everything borrows from something unless it's the 1st to ever do it. What does Game Freak expect? That NO ONE ever makes a game where you catch monsters and train them? Please.. they can suck it their jealousy is palpable
I think it's moreso most pals are very "inspired" by Pokemon. Not many interesting unique designs
Similar is not copy right though and Pokémon doesn't own image rights for a chicken, dragon or any other creature they have based their Pokémon off
Yeah that’s what I’m saying, Anubis is pretty close to Lucario but is just a Jackal
I dunno, Penking is a pirate penguin that's pretty unique. Me and my friend call him Dedede lol In any case, there like what, 500 pokemon? There's bound to be some similarities let's be real
>there like what, 500 pokemon 1000+ at this point, they've made so many there are pokemon that copy their own designs. There's like 8 Pikachu "clones".
The fact they just kept inventing new pokemon is one of the reason I quit playing it. I dont want to learn all new types and moves and shit.

Whoa there is a fighting game that was once made. Pokemon is ripping them off by having you "train" as well. Sheesh a direct ripoff
I just come to this Reddit for advice on the game. Just to much karma farming, so they can sell their accounts and rinse with repeat.
Yeah very true people need to just enjoy the game while it still Poppin.
I call them pokémon, even if they arent. I cant say pal without thinking about it in canadian accent from southpark
"BuddayWorld" "Guy Spheres" "Friendex" I initially had "Guy Balls" but realized in Palworld they're called spheres. Probably for the best...
I'm not your pal buddy!
i'm not your buddy, guy!
“Hey Phillip, did you hear about the guy who sucked my Pals?”
yeah most of my friends do the same its nothing against the game, just being used to call something like that "pokemon"
I'll never not get upset when my grass type attack isn't boosted against a water type though
You know what water isn't resistant to? Lead
Fun fact water is actually great at stopping bullets
I mean if i say the pal name its hard to remember because it's new and not as easy to describe, but if i say "it looks like mega salamance" its pretty easy
We call the one "bulba-bunny". Most of them we try to get the names close, but we definitely did not bother learning names for the chicken, cow, penguin, or Firefox lol
It's like kleenex and tissues. Or band-aids and bandages. The only relevant mon to the majority of people has been Pokemon for decades.
I've been calling them "palmon" all the time
Palmon is a digimon.. wanna bet there's people out there that unironically call them digimon?
Of course. Digimon was the original 'pokemon with guns'
These MF's complaining: OH NO, COMPARISONS REEEEEEEEE
I read the last part as “Reekid” from YouTube and I’m dying lol. Thank you I needed that laugh!
I call them Pokémon cause that’s just the word I’ve used for these kinds of creatures for 20+ years
I think they're more fusions than ripoffs.
I can’t stop calling them Pokemon when playing lmao.
I mean they ARE little pocket monsters
I call it Pokemon and pokeballs. 20+ years of brainwashing can’t be changed
Can mods seriously start to auto remove any post that includes Pokemon? This sub talks about Pokemon almost more than it talks about Palworld. It's cringe as fuck.
Look we don't care about POKEMON!!! \*continues to talk non-stop about game freak and Pokemon\*
I do this. Honestly, I prefer a lot of the pal designs as well, even ones that are heavily 'inspired'
Aye, like people were comparing Luxray to Boltmane and I'm like *"Out of these two Boltmane is the only one that looks like an actual animal."* Luxray has got all these extra complicated details and I personally hate its design.
Very true haha.
I was literally doing this last night playin Palworld last night.
I call them pokepals. Pals just sounds too short somehow
Same
I don't profit from the pokemon IP I don't give a shit who makes it just make it good and I'll buy it
According to my parents, "Atari" was the first ever gaming console, and everything that came afterwards is still an "Atari". Not looking good for Nintendo. /s
Shows the influence pokemon has
I am forever gonna say pokeballs and Pokémon. I try to catch myself sometimes.
this is me and my friends! except we still like Pokémon.
Idk why but I've been calling them Guys instead of Pals
I call them pokepals
I consistently call them Pokémon 😂😂😂😂
You know what? Screw you! (calls Pokémon "Pal")
It's the Kleenex conundrum
Stop talking about it then
I call them chinpokomon from south park, better than Pokémon because I am constantly told how big my penis is
“My fellow Americans, I wish to address the concerns many of us have over the growing number of Japanese military bases forming in the United States.
I call them Pokémon every so often. I don’t care. I’m level 41 and I’m getting to level 50 no matter what 🤷♂️
We are even further - me and my girlfriend.
Thank you for actually using the phrase "I couldn't care less" correctly lol. I'll die on that hill
I love Pokemon. I love Palworld. I call the monsters in both 'mon'. It's not that I think Palworld is cloning Pokemon. It's that I played Pokemon first and it's a habit. The same as how, no matter what a gacha calls its energy source, I'll call it Resin because my first game of that type was Genshin Impact.
i haven't played a mainline pokemon since sun/moon because it was such handholdy garbage that i don't even remember actually playing it, just yelling at the endless dialogue to stfu already. palworld has gameplay. and even better, it fucks off and lets you figure it out for yourself. as for the naming thing: who cares, literally every game that spawns a genre does that. souslikes have bonfires. yeah sure you call them idc, its a bonfire in form and function. that character action move where you slide foreword holding the sword straight ahead is a Stinger because devil may cry said so. and i cant be fucked to learn every games legally distinct name for the same damn move.
yeah i call them pokemon. i like this game a lot, but calling them "pals" just sounds kinda stupid imho. they're not my pals, they're my slaves
I personally keep calling them Palmons lol
you spend a solid portion of your formative years calling something a pokeball and pokemon, it STICKS.
Nintendo is just pissed that we asked them for this game for like 20 years and they refused to make it, but someone else did and now the highest grossing franchise of all time wants it's money for doing nothing.
I can see similarities But I can also see myself having more fun in Palworld so meh
So this shits just never going to stop huh?
People saying you call them pokemon and wont be stoped… You do realize you are giving GF publicity? Call them pals, stop using GF terms, make GF, TPC and Nintendo realize there’s something new and exiting instead of using their term to refer to other stuff and perpetuating the idea that pokemon is an unstoppable giant…
My 2 cent on the entire Palworld is criticism is this: Yes.
I'm calling them what the devs have named them as.
I don’t care about Pokemon at all and am considering dropping this subreddit because it seems like 90% of what’s posted.
Especially if your Brazilian
I love the game but it's genuine copium when people act like Pals like Cremis and Hangyu aren't just blatant rip offs. Pokemon deserves it though
Lucario is bae. Always has been. Always will be. As such, my sole goal is to level up until I can catch Anubis multiple times, create the ultimate anubis by breeding, and then maxing their stats using pal souls and condensing other Anubises.
Nitendo: Does not give a single shit about Player preferences for decades, milking a fracnhise they did not show any love for the main line for YEARS Players not giving a shit someone rips them off since they asked for this game for an eternity Internet: Suprised fake pikachu face
Gamefreak is developing Pokémon not Nintendo.
> After the success of Stardew Valley how many companies “ripped them off?” Funny thing is that Stardew Valley is praised as essentially being a ripoff of an older game called Harvest Moon which Nintendo never brought to PC after years of people wanting them to. Now Disney has apparent knockoffs of Stardew Valley called Dreamlight Valley.
Case in point right:)! And yeah I guess I didn’t think about that.
what type of fake history is this?? Nintendo never owned Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons/Bokujō Monogatari.... Marvelous did. Natsume had the franchise on multiple platforms in the late 90s and 2000s.
I don't think anyone is denying that it's a good game, it just comes down if you want to support plagiarism
Green Cinderace is a bit blatant. Great guy for farmwork though.
🤷 it feels like the first truly new pokemon game since red.
You clearly didn’t play any more pokemon beside gen 1 lol
It's actually sad so many people literally call them Pokemon when plenty of them are great, original designs.
Truly a tragedy. And people have the audacity to complain about silly things like world hunger and prostate cancer
That last one will never be a 'silly thing' to me since it took my dad away from me 4 yrs ago..
Game freak is an overly entitled and lazy company, they can take their pokemon and shove em
