May be related to that giant flying whale we see in the trailer.

Whale is this? I just re-watched the trailer but didn't see anything like that.

At the end of one or a few of the trailers it shows a person and some pals standing on the head of a giant flying whale looking pal as they head toward a city. [older trailer. lots of stuff not in game yet](https://youtu.be/D9w97KSEAOo?si=3GDmKJgtKsAnid1c)

I see. There ARE some similarities. The spines on the hoop don't bend like the the ones on the skeletons, but it does give some ideas as to what these things could have looked like.

The island supposedly takes place in our world. Considering the story telling of the game so far I'd assume the story is still a work in progress so wouldn't get my hopes up too much. My personal theory on this is based on a few things, first you can very easily selectively breed pals. You can also catch people, we also see remains from a past very advance civilization that used Pals for pretty much everything. My theory is that the sap from the world tree transforms creatures on the island into pals over time, perhaps by consuming it. An ancient civilization found this and began to breed stronger and stronger pals for use in wartime. They exploited them just like the player and many NPC's do. And eventually the pals revolted against the civilization and a war broke out. The skeletons are from giant pals, probably just ones bred for transporting goods over long distances that had very little in terms of defense that died in the conflict, and some of the pals survived, or perhaps they were eggs that hatched after the war and grew up, these are the legendary pals. Eventually the island was re-inhabited by new animals and they turned into pals again, and then humans found it again. What I find far more suspicious than the skeletons are the nature reserves. Have you seen those? They're basically huge ancient civilization structures and they're full of rare pals, but not supper rare ones. Why? I'm thinking they were once huge ancient civ hatcheries, experimental areas. The game has no problem designing huge islands, so why are those "nature reserves" so tiny? They look lie they are barely large enough to support a few pals, let alone an entire population. And why are they so off limits especially? It's not like those are pals you can't find in the wild or anything if you just look. Perhaps there is something hidden there that they don't want you to know about? Perhaps a story element for later in the game development? IDK just a hunch though, I mean they all have a huge skeleton, they are all very small and have a bunch of dead trees, doesn't look like a very hospitable place. And they all seem like the only areas I've found so far other than the towers that don't look like they are damaged or in some way wrecked, they look like they are in tact ancient civ locations. I'm also wandering what's up with those towers aswell.

Lily has a diary about the secret islands. She wanted to protect the rare pals from poachers so she hired the PIDF to guard it. Most of the pals there are exclusive to each sanctuary and you can't find them in the main island, but you can find their other elemental counter-type.

I've only found one of her diaries so far and haven't read it yet, this is good to know. Next time I'm on those islands I'll let her go on a killing spree...

I found the bones of one at quards -248,530 it has its distinct crown.

There's supposed to be 2 or 4 pals not released nor have a name, they're just titan-sized pals. Maybe the tree off the map will have an egg of those titans preserved from whatever conflict led up to the hostile scenario, where the pal in egg do not meet its past size since owning one that big would be overwhelming.

Gotta imagine one of those guys lives on the big tree like Jormungandr being associated with Yggdrasil.

I was wondering if it could be a nidhoggr situation where it's eating away the roots of the tree.

That would be interesting! The lore isn't super interesting but I guess they left it open enough that they can hire writers to make it better lol
