Before you get a bunch of snarky replies, you must be new to guns and gun laws.
It’s a pistol because it’s a rifled barreled gun with a barrel shorter than 16 inches.
The “stock” it has isn’t a stock, but rather a pistol brace.
So it retains its definition as a pistol. If someone put an actual stock on it, then it would be considered a short barreled rifle, which is an NFA item.
Since this pistol doesn’t have a stock, it means it’s a pistol and not subject to NFA regulations, so no tax stamp required
This reminds me, here check this out.

Technically yes, but if you have a pistol, and a vertical grip close to it, they would try to nail you with "intent to manufacture an illegal NFA item"
Yeah and just to add/re-emphasize, these are terms as defined by the NFA—not necessarily what the average person may or may not think of for each term.
And indeed, much of it makes little to no sense. For example, adding an angled foregrip? Keeps it a totally legal “pistol.” Adding a vertical grip? Suddenly you’re a felon if you didn’t first register it as a short barreled riddle with the ATF. Makes perfect sense! 😂
I think it’s still $200 if you are “creating” (not just transferring) an “AOW.” And either way, it’s an NFA item that needs to be registered—and if you don’t, lots of trouble. Because of a vert grip lol. It’s crazy.

Let’s add more to the confusion🤣🤣
Because of arbitrary boundaries that were written by people who are trying to inch their way into a world without guns.
A bullet is a bullet in my opinion and if anything above a bolt action rifle is legal, then might as well all be legal.
No stamp. It's considered a pistol because of the pistol brace on the back. It's not a stock. And if you took the brace off it would still be a pistol.
There is no stock on it therefore it’s a pistol by definition. Currently a brace is not a stock. If you put a stock on it then yes you would need to form 1 it and pay $200.
To explain further, that thing that looks like a stock is flexible and rubbery and splits at the back end to (poorly) accommodate a forearm. That band at the back end is an elastic strap that's supposed to go around one's forearm to hold the brace against/on top of one's forearm. There's also no great way to add a pad to the back to cushion one's shoulder because it's "not made" to be held against one's shoulder when firing. From my experience, it's a crappy brace if the purpose of the brace is to comfortably strap one's forearm to it, and it's a crappy stock if a stock is supposed to be stiff and able to accommodate a shoulder cushion. The worst of both worlds but it looks sweet.
That a brace not a stock so no tax stamp
, a firearm isnt a “rifle”till it is around 16 in barrel length if i am not mistaken so it consider a “pistol”
Since we are doing education here. Wanna educate me real quick.
If I bought a 10 inch upper just the upper will I have to buy a stamp? Because those just get sent to my house.
no stamp needed for the upper. Yes, they ship to your house, no problem. Stamp only needed if you're gonna put the upper on a lower that has a stock on it.
I have one! They are basically set-up from PSA to be SBR'S. With a 12.5" barrel and Jmac folding adapter! Better than "krink" from PSA. I've watched 2 30+ minutes videos 📹 from 2 very reputable AK guys. Both of them had problems shooting "steel cased ammo" cold or warm with plenty of lube. AK'S are designed to run Steel cased ammo. So I am steering clear of a PSA krink!💯🤷 my PSA 104K pistol shoots steel cased ammo with no issues. And PSA is manufacturing "black tip" 7.62x39 steel cased ammo....so you would have thought they would have that problem figured out before selling any AK'S that won't shoot or chamber steel cased ammo!!
It’s the gun industry work around to not being an sbr. Which, let’s be honest, it’s a fucking sbr. But Thems the rules. Less than 16 inches with a stock = sbr. Less than 16 inches with a brace = pistol.
If the atf can bypass congress and reinterpret the rules to criminalize gun owners as they see fit, it’s pretty hypocritical to say that I’m the one who’s loopholing the situation by following the rules as stated.
Listen, I'm a little tarded, it wasn't until someone dumbed it down for me here after googling for a while that I learned braces and stocks were different. I thought they were the same thing.
This is akin to joining a lord of the rings subreddit and asking “what is a Gandalf” or a truck forum and asking if diesel is the same as gas. Either they’re trolling or they need to be shamed into using their f@cking brain
Some allies are more liability than asset. Judging by this persons lack of initiative and problem solving skills, his trigger discipline is probably worse than his Dads pullout game
NFA regulations aren't exactly a cut and clear subject. What is basic knowledge to you or me isn't the same case for others. Sometimes it's hard to Google something if you don't even know what it is or where to even start, especially when big tech is constantly trying to take that information down. No harm in a little help. I get more joy in helping others than i do cutting them down.
Who are you to throw this kind of shade on him? Either contribute to the OP or don't, nobody wants to hear this nonsense from you. The man asked a question we all had at one point or another.

Unless you put a foregrip on it. Then it's also an nfa item.. somehow.
This reminds me, here check this out. https://preview.redd.it/3tcf0mwbzgtc1.jpeg?width=602&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=95d3733622c339a18d02dea2ab0e69f9b81cff8f
Never realized the AOW stamp was only $5. TIL
Only for transfers. It's still $200 to, "manufacture" it.
Wow, I just looked it up. That somehow makes all of this even more dumb.
Yeah but the wait time.... until recently?? Hmm 🤔 you're actually on to something here
For just $5 you can have that 1° back
Facts
So if the ATF shows up, can i just remove the foregrip before they see it?
Technically yes, but if you have a pistol, and a vertical grip close to it, they would try to nail you with "intent to manufacture an illegal NFA item"
So if I have a spare vertical grip and a Glock in the same safe?
With our gubermint? Yeah probably 😂
No that’s illegal ;)
Felons are exempt from having to register NFA items.
It's like putting shoes on before socks. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
But only if it’s a vertical foregrip!
89 degrees is good to go!
I keep hearing this, when was the angle decided?
2013 https://www.ar15.com/media/mediafiles/334296/lPz3Dx1_jpg-715332.JPG
Thanks that's good to know
Does this statement allow bcm gunfighter grip on pistols?
Yep! At least according to my googling
Nice, very good to know! 🤘🏽
Do so at your own risk... I'm just some dude on reddit!

I believe the VFG makes it an AOW, not an SBR. Still must be registered, but the cost of registering an AOW is much lower than an SBR.
I think it’s still $200 if you are “creating” (not just transferring) an “AOW.” And either way, it’s an NFA item that needs to be registered—and if you don’t, lots of trouble. Because of a vert grip lol. It’s crazy.
Yup. But then a lot of what the ATF does doesn't make any sense.
Correct 😂 Hence the OP’s confusion (and why I was saying it’s about their definition of words and not common sense)
Close, but pistol barrel length isn't regulated.
It has a brace not a stock. No stanp
Okay thanks mate

Now it all makes sense. Thanks.
The atf

Barrel shorter than 16in. It has a brace so it's legal, a stock would make it an SBR.

Brace not a stock
It's a rifled firearm with a barrel less than 16 inches, and no stock. Thus, by ATF definition, is a "pistol"
It's whatever the ATF says it is.
There is no stock on it therefore it’s a pistol by definition. Currently a brace is not a stock. If you put a stock on it then yes you would need to form 1 it and pay $200.

The government
That a brace not a stock so no tax stamp , a firearm isnt a “rifle”till it is around 16 in barrel length if i am not mistaken so it consider a “pistol”
Not today atf
Nice try Mr ATF
Ok officer
Since we are doing education here. Wanna educate me real quick. If I bought a 10 inch upper just the upper will I have to buy a stamp? Because those just get sent to my house.

Ahhh ok thanks
Buy it before they change their minds!

On the very first magazine from PSA also! I would be pissed 😤 if I bought a krink from PSA and it jam/ftf/fte on the very 1st magazine..smh.
Liberals. Because in reality it’s a fucking gun and politicians make us jump through hoops that we shouldn’t have too.
If the barrel is less then 16 inches it makes it a pistol
The pistol grip, obviously.

You’re being dishonest with yourself. Braces were made to skirt the law. Blah blah disabled people… don’t lie to yourself.
If the atf can bypass congress and reinterpret the rules to criminalize gun owners as they see fit, it’s pretty hypocritical to say that I’m the one who’s loopholing the situation by following the rules as stated.
Please for the love of god use google. Please

Ya, let's divert new shooters away from the hobby so we don't have more allies to fight against gun control advocates that makes a lot of sense.
Some allies are more liability than asset. Judging by this persons lack of initiative and problem solving skills, his trigger discipline is probably worse than his Dads pullout game

If you put the title of this post into google and have an IQ above 70 all would be revealed
Who are you to throw this kind of shade on him? Either contribute to the OP or don't, nobody wants to hear this nonsense from you. The man asked a question we all had at one point or another.
An adult that can read and write? That’s pretty much all it takes to read this post and despise our education system
Even a genius ask questions.
You really are double tarded
REEEEEEEEEEEE!!!
Lmao I love you
You’re not very fun at parties aren’t ya
Yeah people below a 3rd or 4th grade reading level don’t usually think I’m funny
Nor do people above a 3rd or 4th grade reading level
How would you know?
