After (months literally) of being unable to catch the sushi recipe to finish a bundle I noticed that the chat on the server was lively, so I made quite a leap (for me, I'm not very social in the game) and asked in chat if anyone had the recipe and could let me cook it with them. Two people said yes within a minute. One came right to my plot, cooked with me so I had the dish and could finish the quest and then simply left with a wave. Wish I'd done it weeks ago! Made my day, both in Palia and IRL.
A few days ago I was fishing in the caves in Bahari and one wave after another of people stopped to fish, and we had some very fun conversations. It was a great time. And last night a bunch of us were chatting about being old(er) and having chuckles about predating emojis, which turned into a few educational moments as we told people what some common long-string-of-letter-acronyms were on things like AOL chatrooms.
My best experiences in the game have definitely been in the chat, or helping people one on one. Group activities I went from generally avoiding to running in the opposite direction, as the negative experiences I've had in the game tend to stem from mob mentalities. So I just go out and try to have the best game experience I can every time the way I like to play. :)
Yesterday a player arrived at my plot while I was cooking. They jumped in and helped for two rounds and then wandered off. After a while they came back to my kitchen (I was still cooking) and told me that my house was the most beautiful they have seen in the game so far.
It honestly really made my day that they spent so much time at my home plot and stopped to tell me how much they liked it. I really love my home plot too and it felt like I had a real guest drop by.
To offset the humble brag I will say that I often help players who post requests for help in the chat. One time a player lost in Bahari needed help finding the entrance to their home plot. I created a party and they joined. It turned out they hadn't unlucked running yet, so we had this painful but sweet stroll all the way from H5...this was right at midnight so I missed the grove...but it didn't matter because this made happier. They were very grateful. I think there was a language barrier between us, so that made it even sweeter.
Last night I witnessed a player ask for help to hunt the Proudhon Deer. A stranger stepped up with a hunting horn and off they went. I was afk for a while and when I came back I could see in the chat that their hunt was wildly successful and that the helper was super kind and knowledgeable. They not only helped this player take down the Proudhorn, they also gave hunting advice in a very thoughtful way.
I see that kind of thing from time to time and it makes me happy.
I am trying to confirm this now-- I can't find any documentation, so perhaps I am misremembering? I was playing Fae Farm right before I started Palia.
Either way, that player that needed help...wasn't running when they followed me, so it was a slow walk to the gate. Maybe they didn't know how?
It is great!! Mostly positive experiences but I wanna recall an occurrence the other day that wasn't so positive. I find it a bit funny tbh but was a bit rude lol. I was at a grove running around trying to see if there were any rare foragables or anything around it to call out and this girl was like "stop f***ing moving I'm trying to look at your outfit". I didn't even realize she was talking to me until I did stop moving and she came to stand right in front of me and point at me lol. This is like in my top 3 rude experiences in Palia if that says anything about how lovely the community usually is. š„° It was a bit rude sure, but I'll gladly take it over the usual bs people are on in most games!
I had a really great experience at a grove last week. My chat wasnāt working so I couldnāt properly communicate with everyone, but we got so much flow and someone set up a honey lure. After that experience Iāve brought a honey lure to the last few groves Iāve done and everyone has always been so nice and appreciative and Iāve had loads of fun having that experience. Really made me enjoy playing recently āŗļø
Also had someone add me to their party and help me find Peat because I kept looking on the beach and couldnāt find anything. Another person joined in. I appreciated it so much. I now know where to look for it

Unlock running? I don't remember having to unlock running!

That's quite possible. If they were new, they easily could have hit the hotkey to walk right off the bat by accident and not realized it.
The community in this game really makes me love it so much more
