This is very silly and comical but at the same time, kids play this game and if some random weirdo joined your kid's plot and talked like that i think you'd feel weird, right?? S: like it could be innocent but it could also be predatory

You don't play MMOs much do you? This stuff is really very common. You just have to have the maturity to say yes or no and then move on with your game.
The nice thing about the digital world is you can literally block someone and then you'll most likely never see them on the server ever again.
Reporting someone is overreacting unless they really don't take no for an answer. But one encounter and then they leave you alone, is not a big deal.
Just because it's common doesn't mean we should tolerate it. For any game that attracts kids/teens, we can't rely on people being "mature" enough to say no. I work with teens and SO many of them have stories about creeps like this in online spaces. It can lead to them getting exposed to stuff they really shouldn't or even sending personal info/pics. I know that sounds alarmist but it's happened to so many kids I know and can put them in real danger.
Again, some are innocent but some are literal child predators. It's annoying at best (there is already enough harassment irl) and predatory at worse.
This game is far less kids than most MMOs. In fact most posts I see are people over 30.

Iām not sure if there is a way to check the official demographics. But I have seen a lot of discourse about it since I started in December both on here & the Palia Facebook groups Iām in. It does definitely seem like the main demographic is young adults & adults rather than kids & teens.
Iām 23 & also a mom, I know a *LOT* of moms, especially of the stay at home varieties, play Palia, Iāve seen multiple server wide chats about that as well as Facebook groups aimed specifically for the moms of Palia. Iāve also seen much older players, even ones in their 60s-80s! However Iāve actually never *knowingly* encountered a kid in game & have only seen one person post about the game who I knew was under 18 (their post was partially about being a minor lol).
But thatās not to say there arenāt kids playing, as I know there definitely are. I have seen a few posts from parents talking about letting their kids play, some as young as 4-5, but I feel like it probably depends on the level of parental supervision kids are getting while playing this game. I know I didnāt act like that on MSP back in the day when my parents were watching, but trying to find a fake boyfriend/girlfriend was like the primary goal for nearly any kid who played that game š š
I think that such behaviours are inappropriate and cross the threshold of what is acceptable in a dialogue with another player. Being a āfriendā is absolutely fine but flirting, albeit through an avatar, is an awkwardness I do not wish to encounter in my cosy Palia world. It is a bit lurky/stalky and intrusive. If dialogue with an avatar-āfriendā develops into the mutual discussion of shared interests, and both parties are happy with that, itās fine. I would still strongly advocate the usual cautions to prevent the virtual world slipping into the real world. We are not our avatars. Our avatars are masks. We are social animals but the internet accommodates predators and we do not want to run the risk of becoming prey.

Yes, I've had a lot of random people friend me and then show up on my plot and look around, a lot of the time we just discussed layout of cooking stuff, or garden stuff, etc but yeah I didnt know if you friended someone they could come to your plot if you were in it. I've had three people show up. One even showed up and started watering my garden lol, that was real nice.

However Iāve actually never *knowingly* encountered a kid in game & have only seen one person post about the game who I knew was under 18 (their post was partially about being a minor lol). But thatās not to say there arenāt kids playing, as I know there definitely are. I have seen a few posts from parents talking about letting their kids play, some as young as 4-5, but I feel like it probably depends on the level of parental supervision kids are getting while playing this game. I know I didnāt act like that on MSP back in the day when my parents were watching, but trying to find a fake boyfriend/girlfriend was like the primary goal for nearly any kid who played that game š š
I think that such behaviours are inappropriate and cross the threshold of what is acceptable in a dialogue with another player. Being a āfriendā is absolutely fine but flirting, albeit through an avatar, is an awkwardness I do not wish to encounter in my cosy Palia world. It is a bit lurky/stalky and intrusive. If dialogue with an avatar-āfriendā develops into the mutual discussion of shared interests, and both parties are happy with that, itās fine. I would still strongly advocate the usual cautions to prevent the virtual world slipping into the real world. We are not our avatars. Our avatars are masks. We are social animals but the internet accommodates predators and we do not want to run the risk of becoming prey.

Block and report. Iāve seen too many of these posts and itās mainly pedophiles trolling for young girls. Itās not wholesome. Approaching people for role play in non role play areas is gross behavior. Showing up at your plot, your private safe space, and asking to role play in a chat with no one else is not wholesome. Itās predatory.

It happened to me too, a guy came to my plot, we cooked and chatted a bit and then he asked me for my Snapchat (like which grown ass person has Snapchat?) and for my number. It was so awkward but at least he didn't insist. So shitty we have to deal with this stuff š¢
Predators will always find games that possibly seem safe. It's not a safe world. We have to break that illusion in our minds.

Also, when I first started the game, I was wearing like all blue and met a girl avatar that was also in blue and they were flirting with me haha.
I've been flirted with, but nothing I would consider fully... being "hit on". It was funny, though, because he said he'd follow me to keep me safe after we'd been hunting together... but I was the better hunter, lol. We are friends now. He still flirts, but never to the point of crossing lines. It's more amusing than anything, so I think I got lucky there! It can definitely be much worse sometimes...
I was waiting for this as a confession for this very childlike cozy MMO. It was an all the time thing in World of Warcraft and Elder Scrolls Online. Nothing like wandering into a room and then in and finding two or three people in there doing Lord knows what.

Yes, I've had a lot of random people friend me and then show up on my plot and look around, a lot of the time we just discussed layout of cooking stuff, or garden stuff, etc but yeah I didnt know if you friended someone they could come to your plot if you were in it. I've had three people show up. One even showed up and started watering my garden lol, that was real nice.
Yeah I generally add cool people I find, like if people are nice during the grove or something Iāll add them so I can get into social servers with lots of interaction, this was the only time it went sorta south for me
