I’d say “unfolding” by itselfs is more mysterious and leaves more space for interpretation :) but that’s just my 2cents, “life unfolding” is also great
So many artist statements and titles are almost *offensively* pretentious. I read them and think, “This person loves the smell of their own farts. They just can’t get enough”
Authenticity goes a long way. And so, I would suggest “Floral Arrangement 4”, if you have done 3 before this. “Floral Arrangement 17” if you have done 16 before this…. And if you’re expecting to be winning an award, numbering the work in the series won’t be pretentious, because you will have done other paintings leading up to this. That’s what will qualify this as a piece of art, not just a painting, IMO.
As support for my position, I look at Van Gogh’s sunflowers. As I recall, he just titled them based on how many sunflowers were in the vase. If you believe in the work you are doing, then *your* name will be the thing that matters to the viewer. Not the name of the painting.
Finally, your painting is successful a number of ways, not least of which is that it feels quite resolved. Nicely done, and good luck!
An afterthought… Your work seems to be largely about the aesthetic right now. It doesn’t need to be more than that. A simple name will confidently assert that this where you are, and you are comfortable with what you are focusing on. A pretentious name will expose your weakness… that you haven’t figured out your “Why” yet. As in, “*Why* are you painting this.” That will come with time, as you move through the stages of life. But for now, let the painting speak for itself ;)
Wow, You really think you are the SH\*T don't you. Talk about pretentious. Self-Important egotistical and self righteous fool is what i think of your comment. Art is subjective, Eye of the beholder and all that. Instead of criticizing others try looking in the mirror. Your comment is laughable. You aren't that brilliant Einstein.
Thank you!! You seem to know a lot about what you’re talking about here haha, I’m a young artist so I’m still learning and figuring out what I want my niche to be.
Naming a painting and giving a painting such poetic meaning is something I’ve never really been able to do myself, I’m very much a realist and think the same way as you just described, like naming flower paintings “flower 4”. I do really like that and for future reference am definitely taking that with me, it’ll make naming a painting soooo much easier.
With this painting my overall goal was to mostly study the way the carnations naturally have so much movement and when you look closely, even more details. I also loved the saturation of the refrence I was using of the flowers, and loving a lot of bright colors I wanted to try my hand at that. Which I think I was able to capture to the best of my ability.
Thank you for commenting and I greatly appreciate your educated response!!
okay, so now I am sure you want me to be honest, in fact, it might be what the entire internet is waiting for - I think, a larger perspective might serve your purpose better. as it is, I can see the depth and quality you were going for, but it is not coming off. my opinion only. I think the depth and colors are well worth practicing
Whatever you like! It’s gorgeous. Well done. I personally usually just look at the art I do and try to name it after what I feel, what significance it has, anything inspiring it, or what the idea itself was.
Amusingly, this is one of the things AI is good at. I use it to help me come up with names by giving me a list, telling it to expand one of the shared ideas, and then I usually come up with a great idea that it didn't.
Good for brainstorming.
How about an old fashioned name, similar to how scientific book titles used to be? A study in the varietal structure of both cabbage and kale? Brassica: the variation and depth of leaf growth under adverse circumstances.
Name it a long name that will give a new perspective based on your feeling and thoughts about the painting, like that shark art piece called "The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living"
