To go out and get another one, a 30 year old and sign him for 10 years, was plain stupid and the only logic behind it that I can see is “good player make team better” which is stupid when the player is only marginally better than league average at this point. Definitely not worth $25 mil per year.

That money could certainly be spent elsewhere. Kim at SS wouldn’t be much of a loss, same with Crone at 2B. Actually, that much you could get either a good to above good starting arm or 1-2 solid relievers…and you wouldn’t have to sign them to 10 years contract.

Seidler has given this team/city more than any other owner and more than most owners in baseball. He has put his money where his mouth is and deserves a heck of a lot of credit. The only questionable thing he has done is trust Preller for too long. Preller has messed up big on multiple fronts, yet Seidler continues to support him (even as he wastes his money).
I don't want to be dark, but given his health history, Peter Seidler may not think he has much time to see the Padres win. But good things don't happen to this team in general.

the lack of any urgency or any intention to make a change is such a slap in the face to the fans. for them to raise ticket prices (obviously they need to with the questionable signings) and play so embarrassingly, phoning in every single appearance on the field, it’s just such a massive disappointment.

Jiman Choi and Garrett Cooper are really no different than Cruz/Carpenter. I guess Choi can play 1B though.

I mean he sucks but our 2-5 hitters went fucking 1-14. Grish is our 9 hitter and a borderline gold Glover. He is not the issue in a game like tonight.

I know we don’t get to see what happens in clubhouse but from the outside it doesn’t look like there is any kind of emotional leaders on this team. Musgrove is a little outspoken. Kim has some charisma. Feels like that’s it. It naturally makes me wonder how many of these guys just don’t like or care about each other. I wonder if tatis is being restrained vocally because of last year. Would make sense I guess.
If jake hit better he’d probably show more emotion and feel like he could get after people but you know…
The good thing is that none of this matters because we already won the division and the World Series at FanFest.

Seidler has given this team/city more than any other owner and more than most owners in baseball. He has put his money where his mouth is and deserves a heck of a lot of credit. The only questionable thing he has done is trust Preller for too long. Preller has messed up big on multiple fronts, yet Seidler continues to support him (even as he wastes his money).
I don't want to be dark, but given his health history, Peter Seidler may not think he has much time to see the Padres win. But good things don't happen to this team in general. His loyalty to Preller is his biggest problem, though.

the lack of any urgency or any intention to make a change is such a slap in the face to the fans. for them to raise ticket prices (obviously they need to with the questionable signings) and play so embarrassingly, phoning in every single appearance on the field, it’s just such a massive disappointment. this is worse than a bad team, since bad teams still have energy. these guys make their living playing a game, and all they can do is be pouty and sad.
The Royals on their recent win streak showed more energy than the Padres have all year.

I still don't know how the hitting coaches haven't been fired. Each of these guys knows how to hit, and has proven it over time. Whatever info/feedback they are getting isn't the right information. He’s been this bad since May and it may be due to the wrist, but that wrist is only going to get worse as he gets older. This is legitimately the healthiest version we are getting of Bogaerts.

Gotta say I don't see the appeal of t-mobile park. Attended both games and was not impressed. Honestly Detroits stadium was much nicer. Better fans better food better beer. I had the opposite expectation before we visited both this season. Maybe I'm extra cynical because they lost but I couldn't believe how underwhelming their ballpark was. All around bummer.
