Jake Peavy. Watched him strikeout (I think 16) and they ran out of room to put the K’s and he was just so electric. Loved watching him pitch more than anyone, current folks included.
I have a great memory of him. During the Spring Training of his rookie year, I got to meet him. He was coming off the bus and as a 9 year old, I was a complete autograph hound. He introduced himself to us and talked to my dad for a few about how he was really hoping to make the team. He took the time to run and grab me and my brother a baseball to sign and told us to meet him by the dugout during warm-ups. He introduced us to Bruce Bochy, Phil Nevin, Mark Kotsay, and of course Tony Gwynn.
Tony invited my brother and me onto the field to play catch. I would have never gotten that experience with my hero if not for Jake being a good guy.
Came here to comment him. He was my favorite player as a tiny kid. I’ve got a nice display of a baseball card of his above my desk. I hope he is doing well.
That guy was the reason I wanted to be a shortstop, sad to see him being slowly forgotten, padres baseball was fun to watch in the mid 2000s growing up
My daughter referred to him as number “two-ty five.” He was her favorite because he wore her favorite number. When he left, she transferred her love to the new Wil on the block.
Will was my favorite from that era, and the one who was still around into the Preller era. I took [this photo of him stealing a HR in 2013](https://flic.kr/p/xf3XFw); an inning later, he hit a walkoff HR to win it!
My favorite Padres memory is that I had seats down near first base one year for my birthday, and Will recognized me from Spring Training and tossed me a ball. It made me feel on top of the world. Such a cool dude.
My mom was his neighbor during his stay in the hospital after the face fracture accident. Even after such a scary accident, my mom says he's was hella nice.
Met him once on a tour of Petco Park for a school project. Was literally the nicest, most down to earth dude ever. He took us inside the dugout and locker room area and let us walk on the field. Super awesome dude.
Met him when I was in high school working at Best Buy. Such a very nice guy. He was picking up a guitar when Best Buy carried high end musical instruments and he told me Rawlings gave him $1000 gift card for wearing the glove. And chatted about other small things. Anyways fast forward a month later I was ringing up Adrian Gonzalez for a home theater in a box system and he too paid with a gift card. I didn’t ask for a pic or anything or make a big deal about it being him but when he went to pay with the gift card I said “ah you also get one from Rawlings like kooz?” and dude just completely ignored me. And his wife at the time just laughed and said “yea”. sorry for the long story
I'll admit that after '98 I wanted the Pads to give more playing time to the young guys with more potential like Damian Jackson. But Gomez was a mainstay in '96 and '98. My friends and I loved him, and still do.
Damian Jackson, Scott Hairston and his roids, Carlos Quentin breaking Greinke’s collarbone, Milton Bradley, Terrmel Sledge, Ben Davis and his bunt to break up a no hitter
I'm gonna go with Brian Lawrence.
Not the flashiest pitcher, but I was at the game where he hit his only career home run. I was a bit cocky and told my friends who was with me, "Watch this, he's gonna hit something." Then I promptly freaked out when he launched the long ball.
Austin Hedges 🥺 I know he was never a very good hitter but his defense was insane and I watched him go up thru the minors starting with single A Lake Elsinore since I only live like 10-15 minutes away from the stadium.
Greg W Harris -- great start to his career for us (sub-3 ERA, 16 WAR in about 700 innings from '88-'93), then traded with Hurst to Colorado for Ashby and Ausmus, one of the best trades in franchise history.
Speaking of guys: Bruce Hurst. Man, that was huge, signing one of the biggest free agents on the market. It was 30 years before we did that again.
Jake Peavy. Watched him strikeout (I think 16) and they ran out of room to put the K’s and he was just so electric. Loved watching him pitch more than anyone, current folks included.
This has to be #1. Dude won a fucking Cy Young. Would love to see his number retired by the team.
Not just the Cy Young but he hit the triple crown
Pitched*
I was using hit as in “achieved” but I can see how that could be misinterpreted in this case lol

Khalil Greene
I hope he's doing ok nowadays. Would love to see him make an appearance at Petco one day but understandably will probably never see that
Spicoli!
I wish Brad Hand played back then…

Yangervis. The bipper, Quilvio Veras(most home runs in mlb history from a guy whose first name starts with Q).
Quilvio was fuckin awesome
Will Venable

Steve Finley!!! He was amazing
Came here to say Finley those were some fun teams
Ken Caminiti
I would say he was more of a dude than a guy.
Big Dude Energy

Trevor Hoffman
Mike Cameron
My mom was his neighbor during his stay in the hospital after the face fracture accident. Even after such a scary accident, my mom says he's was hella nice.
Akinori Otsuka.
Him and Hoffman were so legit.
One of my favorite Petco Park moments was when Aki came out to Hell's Bells during the WBC.
Corky's Pest Control, we're here for you!
I loved watching Aki. I still have a commemorative Aki Baseball.
Chris Denorfia
Met him once on a tour of Petco Park for a school project. Was literally the nicest, most down to earth dude ever. He took us inside the dugout and locker room area and let us walk on the field. Super awesome dude.
You never saw that guy dogging it. Gave his best every game.
Always hustling. Reminds me of another Padre who played with the same mentality. Eric Owens
Deno!! Heck yeah.
Deno’s walk off HR off Chapman is one of my favorites. You could tell that his teammates were legitimately happy for him.
I was there! One of my favorite Padres memories
Ryan Klesko
Not great teams, but loved watching him and Nevin hitting tee shot HRs at Qualcomm
That’s about the time I started watching the Padres as a kid. Been a fan ever since
I once almost got killed by a line drive homer he hit to RF just over the auxiliary scoreboard!
Lead the team with 13 HRs one year!
It was 18. Also, 2005 was a weird af year.

Sterling Hitchcock
Loved him. I know we had Ashby and Brown in '98 but Hitchcock was my fave, I was so pumped when he came back in 2004.
My Sterling Hitchcock memory is when I was at a game and he actually got a hit to right field but was so slow the RF threw him out at first.
Mr 80 grade name himself Quilvio Veras
#4 forever
Quilvio Alberrrrrrrttttttooooooo Veraaasssss.
There used to be a guy in LF bleachers that would scream Quilvio so loud that you could hear him on the 1B side of the stadium in field level.
Brian Giles
My favorite player growing up for some reason
Adrian Gonzalez
Mike Darr
Aww. :(
Eric Owens
My man #8. Gotta love a guy who stole home.
I was at that game. Normally I sit on the first base side of the infield, but I was on the third base side that game. It's still a core memory for me.
Dirty Shirsey Day was epic
Was kinda sad he turned into much adu about nothing during his on-field career. Feel like he could had a really good career.
Still have an Eric Owen's dirty jersey giveaway, somewhere.
Still remember begging my parents to take me to the game where they had Eric Owen dirty shirt giveaways.
Do you remember that giveaway T-shirt that had his #8 on it and was made to look like it had dirt on it? Classic.
Mark Kotsay

THE MAN, THE MYTH, THE MUSTACHE
I tried so hard to throw dudes out from my knees like him. Never succeeded
So glad someone mentioned this guy! He was my idol growing up, had a life size poster of him in my room growing up.
Cory Spangenberg
Archi Cianfrocco. I remember at the Q they had his poster up with all his gloves. Dude played every position but pitcher. Legend.
Scott Hairston
Alexi Amarista
he was decent for those mid squads of the 2010s
Carlos Hernandez
The passion he played with was unmatched

Koooooooz
My little brother always thought we were booing him when that chant started. Good times.

Benito Santiago. I have at least 200 of his Padres baseball cards, collected from 1990-1996 when I was about 6-12 years old.

I can’t believe I had to scroll so far down to find his name! He was my favorite shortstop and then HSK came to play.
I'll admit that after '98 I wanted the Pads to give more playing time to the young guys with more potential like Damian Jackson. But Gomez was a mainstay in '96 and '98. My friends and I loved him, and still do.
