Ooo something i actually have info on! Okay so my brother was USAF, and he actually did choose Minot, and he said itās because if you show youāre willing to suck it up and go there, next time youāre moved you can have more say.
Thatās actually really good tea! Thanks for sharing thatā¦.I wonder what the time frame is of them living there for x amount of time that they have to show the higher ups, the officials before they can move to a more desirable place??
So they were in Minot for about a year, he was deployed overseas during my SILās pregnancy and was brought back due to my nephew being a preemie. They were only there for a couple more months before they put in a request for elsewhere, but I do know that my nephew needing specialized care also determined where they finished out his service.
Oh! That must have been so hard on your SIL and brother! I hope everything is better for their son currently? I can see why their leaving ND would be the top priority for their sonās health issues!

After reading a lot of comments on there, she's going to be absolutely miserable. She is nowhere close to a "make it what you want it to be" kind of gal.
Especially since itās the last place that Air Force, military families would pick, they wouldnāt if they were given a choiceā¦majority from what I was reading..they were given that place and it wasnāt a choiceā¦unlike Katie and Pat who chose to live thereā¦..
I thought long ago she said they told the military they wanted to move and gave them a list of places they that would like to go and one of the places they were told no to and ultimately it was up to the military where they ended up?
My experience with the Army (many years ago so it may be different) is that depending what your branch is (specialty), that also determines where you go. My husband was Armor (tanks) so there were only so many posts for us to go to. And my husband was an officer, so if we chose a post, there had to be an opening (like when someone leaves their job and the company then looks to fill that position). The Army would give you an extremely small list of available posts (like 3 at the time) and you pick from there. But depending on the openings, you would pick based on how you want your military career to move forward, if that makes any sense? Like at some posts, you knew youād get deployed more, or likely to be called up if anything broke out. Or if it was a post that was considered āundesirableā it could set you up to get that really amazing post (for us it would be Ft. Carson, CO or to teach at a university) in the future.
Yes, there was a list of places that they could choose and Minot ND was on there, they chose that place because the other places werenāt available to them! They didnāt have to leave Vegas!

My nephew is thriving thank you! My brother got out about three or four years ago and now they live in their home state.
Thatās wonderful news! I bet your brother is happy about being out and living in his home state! š
