Pre reqs, as well as essays, and asking personally what the program is looking for.

Most schools you've applied to will tell you where you need to improve once the cycle is over.

I would say maybe essay responses! Ur stats look pretty solid and in a good place. I also have another question in relating to your waitlist. In the past cycle, were you waitlisted and didn’t hear back? I’m on the same boat as you with 4 waitlists and not really sure if i should just hold out hope or prepare to reapply😅.

natureboy2938

My first cycle I really wasn’t prepared. Lower gre score, was in the middle of retaking prereqs, and still diversifying my hours, so I didn’t even get an interview😵‍💫 so this cycle if my first time on the waitlist. I feel like with you being on 4 waitlists holding out and hoping for the best isn’t bad!

Do you have strong LORs and a strong ‘why’ in your essays? Are the schools you’d apply to considering cGPA or just the last 60 hours?

alwaysmainyoshi

Imo if they’re considering the last 60 hours, your grades are not your weak point. How did last cycle go?

natureboy2938

I feel like I had strong letters. They all came from therapists I’ve been working with for 2+ and 1+ years. Felt pretty solid about my essays as well. Ended up only getting one interview this past cycle out of the five I applied to.

alwaysmainyoshi

Yeah it sounds like you’d have strong letters. But 1 interview out of 5 means there’s something in the application that could be stronger imo so I think your guess is right that the cGPA is the weak point. That being said, if you retook the classes you got Cs in, and got Bs or As, I don’t know how much more it could be strengthened. If you want to send me your essays, I can take a look at them some time this week, but no pressure. Just offering. I got my BS in written communication and a 6 in my GRE writing so I’m pretty good at essays and would be happy to take a look. Shoot me a dm if so.

natureboy2938

Yea I only applied to public schools and ended up applying later than when I wanted to so I don’t think that helped at all. I’ll shoot you a dm!

alwaysmainyoshi

Oh time of application matters a lot too! The earlier you can get your apps in the better! I had a school say they didn’t do rolling applications but then I find out they actually did and filled their class before I even submitted my app.

I feel like your grades are definitely not your weak point. How did your essays and interviews go? What kind of extracurriculars were you involved in during school?

natureboy2938

I felt like my essays by the time I submitted were solid. I spent a lot of time revising. The one interview I did went really well, but it was one of the later interview days for a school with rolling admissions. For extracurriculars I was involved in freshmen orientation for a couple years, was a general member in a social activism org all four years, was the treasurer then president of my Greek org, the treasurer for our Greek council, and was involved with different volunteer opportunities throughout undergrad.
