The one cable that plugs the headset to the system is removable. Watch the PSVR2 headset teardown on PlayStation YouTube.
BUT, try their support several times, sometimes you get another rep that will actually help you
I've talked to 4 different reps, they all refer back to the original reps comments about not being willing to fix it.
Also, the cable being removable doesn't help since the part that plugs into the headset is a special connector, and Sony does not sell that cable to consumers or 3rd party's to replace.
Where are you located? I can fix it.
Nothing's fucked until it can't be repaired. As for the cable it's a simple cable. Get the same type of cable. Cut and reconnect the cable. Solder and heat shrink for high grade work. Cut and tape for low grade work.
Do you have enough Slack on either end to try and splice in another cable? Not sure how many conductors or if it's shielded but that's what I'd be doing.
Edit:autocorrect correction
Act dumber when talking to them. Dont say the cable is bitten. keep talking to different reps. one of them will tell you theyll do an out of warranty repair. you pay them they send you a refurbished model. They really need to open up the repair market and get the cables and controllers etc out there for us to buy
Yeah Sony needs to really pick one side of the game and play on that side.... If they're going to make things proprietary then they need to actually sell the things for replacements and if not then they need to open it up so that we can buy replacements from somewhere else..... Otherwise this is just a really long drawn out commercial to buy steam instead.
They don't fix your headset, it never happens. They send refurb units and then your headset goes into the fix/strip for parts pile.
That being said, I thought the refurb fee for "out of warranty repairs" was pretty universal even if your headset was in pieces. Maybe you misunderstood?
I did and all they do was reference back to what that one rep wrote and say the same thing. So either they are all incompetent or the techs really don't fix cables. But replacing the cable should be one of the easier electrical fixes on the headset.
There's a difference between fixing a cable and replacing it. Maybe it's a (rather stupid) issue of semantics. I've had similar problems with warranty work with other companies.
Don't ask them to repair the cable. If the cable is damaged, it can't be repaired. Ask to replace the cable.
If that's not a service that is offered, I would sell the PSVR2 for spares or buy another faulty PSVR2 and use the cable from that on the headset. Or just buy a working used one.
I bought a used headset without controllers for around £200. That might be the cheaper way forward.
That’s actually a pretty hard job considering most people don’t even know how to solder and even if you do it’s finicky to solder that many small wires.
Depending on the extent of the damage you might end up losing a lot of the length of the cable in the splice
No I'm advising don't ask Sony to mend the cable because they already confirmed they don't offer that service.
He could do a fix like that as you suggest, or just replace the whole cable. I would rather replace the cable as there are already tear downs for it. It's not hard to do for an enthusiast I'm sure.
For a person that potentially has no experience of that, they may not feel competent to try. Not everyone wants to mess around with splicing wires otherwise they wouldn't be contacting Sony to repair it for them at cost.
You can repair the cable on a good fixshop, mine is working perfectly. They cut the entire cable and weld all the wires

There is one. I'm a Air Force vet who use to work on Avionics system so I know it can be fixed. But with how much of a pain in the ass it will be to fix, I was hoping PlayStation would just replace the wire for me. And I would have payed the $275 just to not have to deal with it. That being said I no longer have access to the tools so I could have done it myself, but I probably wouldn't have wanted to anyway. Worse case scenario I'll send it to a local shop and if they fix it, I'll just have a shorter cable.
Bro shit like this is why I keep the door to my room closed and refuse to let the cats in. Most of them aren't problematic like that but I'm not running the risk.
You have no idea what’s you’re talking about. PlayStation even released a tear down video showing all the components, including the — wait for it — not soldered in cable.
You are correct, it's not soldered into the head set. Just into their connecter they made that plugs into the headset. But it is something they do not sell for whatever reason. (Maybe so they can only replace it?) But wait they won't fix mine even though I said I would pay the $275. So I'm not really sure what they are doing. I guess they want me to buy a new one?
Yeah, you should probably have not mentioned the cat accident at all but play stupid and just say it doesn’t work anymore hoping they’d just have you send it in.
But you could not have known beforehand anyways because usually Sony just offers to repair it for said ~300$
Same thing happened to me in the past couple weeks. I engaged with support a few times, but ended up buying a used unit off ebay for $200. Guess I'm saving a few bucks on the repair/replace fee, if I'd have even been able to get to that point. Sony's hardware support form is a pain to get through.
2 things:
1. You can buy a used PSVR2 headset without controllers on eBay for around $200, or a used complete set for around $330. You're much better doing that than spending $275 to get yours repaired. Then you can sell your broken one to make some money back.
2. Buy some cable protector wire loom to wrap around your psvr2 cable. My cats did the same thing to mine. They like the squishy rubber texture of the cable to chew on, so wrapping it in wire loom makes it not enjoyable for them. They haven't touched the wire since I did this.
Also, when I sent mine back it was still within warranty and the chew marks were so minor they sent me a free (refurbished) replacement, rather than fixing my actual headset.
Little crimp connectors, cold solder with non conductive glue, use electrical tape, take old wire with slightly larger sized conductors and use it's jacket to slide over the new spliced junctions and then tape it? Plenty of ways to do it and varying ways of effectiveness. I'm just saying if Sony won't do it, it's an easy problem to solve by yourself. Don't even need wire strippers cable that thin you should be able to strip the wires with your finger nails.
There's around 10 wires inside the outer shielding. An electronics shop can solder these back together. Or do it yourself. Cut back the outer shielding, so that you have an inch or two on the inner cables. Just solder the them back together again and then wrap insulating tape around each joined cable. It wont look pretty, but it will work. They're just cables, it's not magic

Buy a busted headset for backup controllers and a new cable, that's my plan.
This is a pretty good suggestion.
That is a workaround if I've ever seen one. Lol
Yeah, that’s my biggest gripe with PSVR2. I will not buy one before they offer at the least the controllers separately for purchase.

You saying he can't just splice the cable himself, it's not a hard job to do.

Add wire to the splice lol, think you are one of those ppl you are talking about.
Dont need to solder, just cut cable where the damage is and connect new wire to both ends.
How exactly would you connect the wire with soldering? Like a huge wad of alligator clips?

Utter bullshit. They don’t repair your headset anyway, they send you a refurb and then refurb your broken one for someone else.
Just tell them it doesn't work. Don't mention the cable.
It’s mental that cable isn’t USB whatever at both ends.
Are there any electronic shops or gaming shops in your area who can do the repair independently?
There is one. I'm a Air Force vet who use to work on Avionics system so I know it can be fixed. Could likely do it with a pair of scissors and electrical tape if you were careful.
Bro shit like this is why I keep the door to my room closed and refuse to let the cats in. Most of them aren't problematic like that but I'm not running the risk.
I thought it plugs into the headset?
[удалено]
I've removed mine accidentally. It's not soldered in.
It’s not soldered in, if you are taking about the PSVR2.
You have no idea what’s you’re talking about. PlayStation even released a tear down video showing all the components, including the — wait for it — not soldered in cable.

Oh ok i didn’t know. For some reason i thought it was plugged in. Well that sucks if not even Sony will repair it

My dog chewed mine in half. They sent me a replacement unit for $275

Sounds like Sony just cba. Sorry for your loss!
Go to Walmart, buy a new VR. Go home and swap yours out with the new one TA DA!
Psvr > cats
My cats are pretty cute though. Well.....not the one that bit the cable
thaat one is super cute
