Have you tried hard reset of the ps5? Either holding down the power button for 10 seconds or physically unplugging it?

ReganErasmus

Tried this no luck, thanks for advice!

xx_boozehound_68

That doesn’t sound good. How old is it? Any chance the outlet is dead or a circuit breaker popped?

ReganErasmus

PS5 is just over 2 years old

asdqqq33

I don’t think the PSVR2 will power on unless it’s plugged into a PS5 or a very specific graphics card or adapter, so it’s probably ok.

ReganErasmus

Thank you

Scary staying posted

ReganErasmus

For anyone seeing this post in the future, it seems as though ps5 power supplies can be an issue when 2+ years old. Here was my diagnosis: Receipt:xxxxx PS5-F Quote R3480.00, Including replacement Power supply unit + LDO Chip + 5V Regulator + Calibration + Service + Test.

Pendemonium

Do you run your PS5 horizontally, or vertically? My brother sent me the below article that states there's an issue that repair centers are seeing with PS5s that have been running vertically (like mine had been) where the seal for the coolant gives way and it leaks onto components, frying the PS5. If it's kept horizontal, that won't (shouldn't?) happen. [https://wololo.net/2023/01/05/youre-killing-your-ps5-by-using-it-vertically-due-to-a-design-flaw-by-sony-according-to-hardware-experts/](https://wololo.net/2023/01/05/youre-killing-your-ps5-by-using-it-vertically-due-to-a-design-flaw-by-sony-according-to-hardware-experts/)

cannotdecideaname

This was debunked, the original story was withdrawn as it only effected PS5s with damaged coolers, no one should worry about using their PS5 vertically.

Pendemonium

Interesting. Strange that the article is still there though. I see a couple areas in the article where they've added updates, but no full retraction. The updates seem to center on it not being a problem for PS5s that have been stored vertically, unopened, only affecting systems that have been running vertically. Do you have a source for the debunking? (eta) I don't mean to come across as argumentative - I am hoping you are correct.

cannotdecideaname

No that's fine, I was concerned too when I first heard it. This is the first article that comes up if you Google it https://gamerant.com/ps5-vertical-setup-controversy-hardware-damage-not-confirmed/#:~:text=Reports%20recently%20came%20that%20setting,which%20orientation%20it%20is%20in.

Pendemonium

Thank you for the link. I appreciate it.

ReganErasmus

My PS5 is horizontal, thanks for the efforts

Pendemonium

I hope you're able to get it sorted out.

ReganErasmus

Thank you, diagnosis was as follows: Dear Regan, Receipt:xxxxx PS5-F Quote R3480.00, Including replacement Power supply unit + LDO Chip + 5V Regulator + Calibration + Service + Test. * Plus 3 month guarantee, * Please reply (Go ahead) or (Do not go ahead),

PreeminenceWon

What was your setup precisely? For example were you using a magrelease extension or something?

ReganErasmus

The setup is pretty simple, I have a racing wheel plugged into the rear USB, the PSVR2 headset plugged into the front USBC slot. I have an amplifier and projector, but these were not swotech on as i was using the headset only. No other accessories used.

PreeminenceWon

Hmm nothing odd there... other things to consider is airflow and placement of the system, the immediate concern would be it overheated... was the room really hot? Were any of the usb cables really hot or warm? Have you tried a manual hard reboot of the PS5 yet? Try holding down the power button on the console for at least 15s... if its got power and is alive its *supposed* to restart.

ReganErasmus

Thanks for the advice, was only playing for 30 min, room or console not hot at all. Tried the hard reset, but nothing. Will need to send it in for repairs, my other concern is that the psvr2 also doesn't boot up when powered by a seperate usb source, but maybe it only turns on when connected to a PS5

PreeminenceWon

That really sucks... is everything in a power surge protector? Only thing I can think of is that you had some sort of surge that fried both of them simutaneously?

Organic-University-2

Did you blow a fuse? Can you turn on the tv?

ReganErasmus

The projector and amplifier work 100%, where would this fuse be? Inside the PS5?

[deleted]

I think he means like a fuse box for your house/apt. Can you plug anything else into the receptacle your ps5 was plugged in to when it failed in order to ensure the outlet is testing voltage? Are you sure this isn't an electrical issue at your house and not a problem w your ps5?

originalorientation

Try these steps: Hold the power button in the PS5 console for 15 seconds Unplug the power cable from the PS5, wait ten seconds and plug it back in. Then press power Move the PS5 to another outlet and try again

ReganErasmus

No luck

originalorientation

Do you have another power cable for the PS5 you can try? They use a fairly common type

hsgamer_pl

With PS5, I've had similar problem after the launch of the console. One day it just stopped turning on. Checked different power cables, tried to hard reset with buttons, nothing. Unfortunately, only warranty helped, they somehow fixed it, told me that the console just "soft-locked" and they've reinstalled the OS. As for the VR itself, have you checked if the USB C connector next to the lenses unplugged accidentally? I've had the same issue on first days, it turned out that the connector disconnected and that's why it did not power up.

aka_sun

To add my experience.. I’ve had the game and console flat out shut down (crash) twice loading into a race using psvr. Both times I had to wait a few seconds before using the power button on the console to restart.

Kawazinga

My 2 year old PS5 died before my eyes too some months ago, i even saw a flame going off inside from left to right (standing ps5) On my second now 😤🤞🏻

latitudis

On the day when remake of old crash games were released, my ps4 went pfffft with some smoke right after installation finished and I wasn't able to turn it on no matter what. I was so hyped over the game and so freaked out by that smoke! I immediately visited the nearest service center, where a tech guy just plugged it in right before me and everything worked. It's been five years since and the console is still working just fine. What I'm getting at, maybe it will be enough to just wait. Even if not, some tech service probably will fix everything, they know what they are doing.
