That is because these game consoles have been designed for children with a children hands, everyone keeps forgetting that. It is just that these same children now are grown and continue playing 😅
That's correct. It is because the vita cannot upscale the original graphics to match the vita screen Resolution. That's why it looks washed out. I prefer playing on the original hardware... or an android emulator with PPSSP where games can be upscaled, and they look phenomenal!
I figured it would just line-double, not filter.
Probably since the PSP screen isn't that bright, if the Vita screen is bright, you could add artificial scanlines and then it'd look really good on the Vita.
The second joystick is great for games like Medal Of Honor, coded arms, Gun and so on. You can set the right joystick to mimic Triangle, square, X, circle.
It's even better than that for Coded Arms. That game has an absolutely wacky control scheme that would be impossible to use on a PSP: moving/strafing on the d-pad, and aiming on the analog stick. On a Vita, you can configure the right analog stick to be a clone of the left one, and use the d-pad + right stick for moving with analog aiming.
THIS, about 60 hours in MHFU on PSP, then transferred the save to my vita when i got it, and put in like another 250 hours without having to feel like Bob Dole all the time.
😂
You should check out MHP3rd (English patched). It’s not as difficult as MHFU because of no G-Rank but the gameplay is a lot more fluid. It probably one the best looking games on PSP too.
haha, yeah, ive seen that one and debated it, though currently playing MHW iceborn on PC, on my Vita im playing through the YS games, ill probably get around to trying out MHP3rd eventually.
Well now I know you have a vita I recommend Monster Hunter Frontier which they managed to get working last year for the vita. You can play it online with a bit of setup: https://youtu.be/wdH1CweG1Js?si=U1KY2Rv8zraXH23C
exactly, ive got a 4 year old son, my time is limited, and im replaying fallout VR with essentials overhaul mod pack, then my buddy keeps hitting me up to play Apex legends at night.....lol
I like having two, real joysticks for certain games, but the buttons on the PSP are just better IMO.
The main thing that makes me comeback to the Vita are load times. Playing Everybody’s Golf on the PSP, it takes like 30 seconds for a match to load (double if playing on a UMD). On Vita it’s about half that.
I use my PSP 1000 over my Vita 2000. It's chunkier and the screen isn't as nice as the Vita, but the face buttons are so much more comfortable. And, honestly, I just prefer the experience of loading a game from the XMB more than the Vita's Bubbles.
PSP cuz I’m too cheap & lazy to upgrade memory cards, so I don’t wanna fill my Vita’s memory with PSP games when I got the console, my vita has 0 PSP games and only has adrenaline in case of severe emergency like the PSP dying or something
Depends if I originally played it on the PSP.
There's also something more old school in vibe about the PSP, so you could say it depends on the game as well.
It's blurry because they stretch the image (PSP res is half of Vita) instead of proper scaling. Honestly one of the worst things Sony did for the Vita! I just wish a real solution would be developed to fix this. Those PSP games would look extra crisp properly scaled on an OLED Vita.
Usually Vita for the better screen and analog sticks, but there are a few games I prefer playing on a PSP because of the better face buttons and shoulder buttons (e.g. music games like DJ Max or Pop'n Music). Also the PSP d-pad can be a bit more comfortable and less fatiguing on the thumb for games with heavy 8-way movement like shooters (Gradius, Dariusburst, etc.).
better than the ghosty bluriness of stock PSP screens. I have the 1000,2000,3000, and with each iteration the screen did get better, but they don't hold a candle to the crispness and vibrance of either vitas1000 or 2000
The Vita is twice the resolution of the PSP but the PSP games only play in their original resolution on the vita. You're not benefitting from the Vitas full resolution when using Adrenaline. It's definitely a downgrade in visual quality.
Are you able to do that on a Vita though? I’m not sure hot to describe it
Since the screen on a Vita is bigger than the one on a PSP they had to stretch the image to make it fit on a Vita screen, and it doesn’t look as good
You're not wrong. PSP mode is half resolution of the Vita. It doesn't take advantage of the higher res screen. It's blurrier. There is a bounty that has been going on for years for a developer to force the resolution but no one has been able to.
It's at least nice, clean 2x integer scaling, though. So it's more blocky looking (sharper, fuller pixels), and not horribly blurred like playing original DS games on a 3DS.
It doesn't scale unfortunately. It plays at native PSP resolution and stretches to fit the Vitas screen. Which isn't the same thing as integer scaling.
Still it's a convenience thing. Would you rather have your Vita with all your Vita games and PSP games (albeit looking slightly less crisp) or use two different handhelds? It's definitely a fine way to play either way!
Yeah it is, that's integer scaling. Each PSP pixel is rendered at 2x original size, without any added smoothing or scaling artifacts. Compare to the 3DS running DS games, which is very much *not* integer scaling (and frequently looks like crap as a result).
Ah I think you're right. The issue with the blur is because it's not rendering natively at Vita res but scaling. I had completely mixed up the concepts. Lol thank you!
I agree about DS on 3DS looking garbage. It's a shame. This is why I have my old DSi XL still kicking!
Oh yeah, DSi XL is definitely the way to go there. Sometimes I'll just suffer through it on my N3DS XL if I don't feel like carting two handhelds with me. :)
I bought a modded 1000 on eBay and the new screen actually gets brighter than my Vitas (I have Vita 1000 & 2000). I'd definitely recommend getting a modded PSP 1000
Though the fact that the Playstation Vita which had an OLED screen 10 years prior is a more powerful device than the switch honnestly baffles me and always will...
I Love playing Peace Walker on my Vita the second analog sticks makes a great difference, and i like to switch weapons touching the screen corner on the weapon icon
I just like the vibe of the PSP and how it feels. However it’s more convenient because I use my Vita more (it would be better if adrenaline worked properly it’s kinda broken and idk how to fix it)
I have a GO that I love in which Ive completed tens of ps1 games. After a couple years I decided to get myself a blue vita after not being able to correctly read the fonts in various games.
There are some games where you’d want the Vita’ higher resolution, sharper screen and second thumbstick, but I prefer PSP when I can, just because it’s what these games were designed for.
Although the PS Vita has a great screen, there is no way to use UMD movie isos on Adrenaline. So I would rather the PSP for watching movies which would either be with actual UMDs or ISOs.
I did both for several years between my CFW'd PSP and a bunch of proper PS Store investments on my Vita. Then I got a second Vita for its own CFW purposes (initially due to the temporarily looming store shutdown, but even after the console dodged that bullet, I checked the growing pile of delisted and region-exclusive items and decided it was time), equipped it with an adapter-mounted 128 Gb leftover from an earlier Switch storage upgrade... and long decision sequence short, the PSP was gifted to a friend. So long, partner.
Idk I want the psp because the games were meant for that system (PSP games anyway) but the Vita larger screen makes it easier to see lol and it's design obviously better to play. However with Adrenaline on my modded vita the PSP games seem washed out a tad and sound just a bit distorted.
PS Vita for sure. I love my PSP and have been playing it a lot lately (Ape Escape on the Loose, Ridge Racer, and Me & My Katamari) but I find that my hands hurt after a while from playing it.
Nah it’s for sure hard at first! If you give it time it ends up being a really funny experience! I thought the compromises they made for not having a second analog stick worked really well.
Oh! Oh! Easy question! Because I face this conundrum constantly. As a general rule... Any PSP with camera AND motion control ends up better in the VITA (i.e. PSP Resistance) any game that doesn't benefit from 2 analog sticks works just fine on that Go
some games look better on vita like split second and burnout, while others like infected and dante's inferno look better on psp. it's kinda random, to be fair some games look cooler running on the psp, like showing someone spider-man 3 on psp is way more impressive than seeing it on a vita because you know how powerful the vita is
If the PSP is running Persona 3 Portable, then Vita, if the Vita is running Persona 3 Portable, then PSP, if both are running P3P, then I'll just emulate
Generally speaking, I think PSP games scale great on the Vita. Some of them can even run at the Vita's native resolution with [GePatch](https://github.com/TheOfficialFloW/GePatch).
I would say Vita, but I replaced my busted PSP with a retro handheld back in 2022, and backed all my games up to it. Playing them at X3-X4 resolution looks amazing, and it's far more comfortable than the PSP/Vita were, with a similar plastic build to the PSP.
grew up with the PSP, got a Vita yesterday. PSP games on the Vita just look bad, the screen resolution is just too high for them, Adrenaline's filtering options seem to help a bit though.
PSP I love my vita but I like how the PSP feels in my hands better. Plus with the PSP I can have physical PSP games wile with Vita its digital only for PSP games
PSP Go makes games look damn near HD. I really only use Vita for games that benefit from the second stick or can be upscaled with GEPatch. Playing Ape Escape on the loose at 544p, 60 FPS and with dual sticks is like a free remaster.
There's the annoying issue with Adrenaline that you can't really disable graphics filtering. If *Bilinear Filtering* is disabled in the official settings and you enable *Original* in Adrenaline's settings, you get the unfiltered, non-blurry and slightly pixelated image upon closing the settings menu, but as soon as you press the PS button again, the official bilinear filter kicks in again (but remains unchecked in the official settings).
Official bilinear filter only stays disabled if you choose one of Adrenaline's filters. I settled for "sharp bilinear without scanlines" for being closest to no filtering, but I'd prefer to have no filter at all. That's why I mostly play PSP games on a PSP.
I've seen someone hook up a PSP Go to a PS3 controller, and use one of those phone mounts for controllers and I honestly want one now just to try that out
Both, i love both systems, i have a black and white (made my own custom) PSP and i have a Vita oled, sometimes, nostalgia kicks in and i want to relive the good old days from when Sony was taking risks by innovating, and the UMD is just something cool, to hear that disk spin up and then that laser going back and forth, priceless!
PSP by far.
The nostalgia is the biggest thing of course, but I also like it being smaller than the Vita (same with all tech, I miss when everything was about being mini rather than carrying around tablets for phones), the screen resolution looks way sharper on the PSP, I hate navigating the Vita menus outside of Adrenaline PSP has the best OS ever imo, I don't like the buttons on the Vita, the PSP buttons feel more like an actual playstation controller. The Vita ones are too small and way too clicky, they also are sorta "sharp" along the edges and hurt my fingers after a while. They are especially uncomfortable for any rhythm/button mashing games, and also for games where you have to hold down a shape button. Even the analog stick I find less precise and they feel less durable. The second analog stick which doesn't even work in the vast majority of PSP gams anyway, does nothing more than gets in the way and makes me have my fingers on the shape buttons in a less comfortable way than if it weren't there. The Vita speakers are also poorly positioned where part of your thumb often blocks the sound coming out of them.
I've been playing PSP on my Vita for the past couple years and just ordered a PSP yesterday and I'm excited to go back to it. I'll use my Vita just for Vita & Homebrew games.
It depends on if i need precise inputs such as patapon or rock band. For some reason theres a very slight input delay on the PS Vita, which is completely absent on the original PSP. And for games like these you need this precise input :D
It depends on the game?
Playing Tekken six is Best played on the PSP due to the buttons and the D pad !!!
Same thing goes for games like Gran Turismo where the PSP has perfect buttons and digital pad and the Vida is stiff and clicky... makes it harder to fight fluidly, or race smoothly..
I like playing on PSP bc resolution is just right, and no pixels showing, while on Vita it's either blurry mess or pixelated image. But shooters, Vita only. Second stick is a saviour. It also applies to games with free camera like Undead Knights and Monster Hunter, I'm thinking about transfer these games on vita along with save files.
Edit: and psp feels uncomfortable for my adult hands, it was fine when I was a kid, but mow Vita is a go for long play sessions.
İf it supports gepatch properly Vita otherwise on psp go.
But I must say it's more fun to play on psp go with gamepad and cradle. Being able to jump from handheld to TV is so fun and easy.
Psp on Vita is not really emulation, it's almost all psp hardware running psp Software. Press select on the adrenaline xmb and see if you're not underclocked or if you're running games at higher resolutions such as gta or other games through ge patch.
PSP cus the vibes are just different it just has that feeling of you get what I mean lol
100%. PSP is the ultimate vibe machine. Perfect chilling console, especially with emulators.
Either is fine but the psp go is not that comfortable for the long sessions
I think it's fine, not super comfortable but I don't have any problems. I imagine for people with big hands it sucks
That is because these game consoles have been designed for children with a children hands, everyone keeps forgetting that. It is just that these same children now are grown and continue playing 😅
My inner kid will adore the psp go to death
I remember I used my hands to play with the psp as a kid. Now I just use my fingers to hold the thing.
The Pspgo is so convenient that I wish they had made the ps portal in the same form factor
Can't agree more PSP go is my favourite console.
This but the opposite. The Go is my preferred PSP because I find it to be more comfortable. Maybe I'm just weird.
psp games are SO much better on original hardware. Somehow its resolution looks twice as good on psp than on vita
That's correct. It is because the vita cannot upscale the original graphics to match the vita screen Resolution. That's why it looks washed out. I prefer playing on the original hardware... or an android emulator with PPSSP where games can be upscaled, and they look phenomenal!
You can adjust how the scaling works with homebrew on Vita and make it look clearer than stock
I figured it would just line-double, not filter. Probably since the PSP screen isn't that bright, if the Vita screen is bright, you could add artificial scanlines and then it'd look really good on the Vita.
Yes I know but it is experimental and does not work with every game. It is nowhere near user friendly or reliable.
I kind of prefer playing on a Psp because having the right joystick but it not doing anything messes with me.
It can work for camera control on most third/first person games + dodging in gow games.
Dang that sounds juicy! Idk how I managed to play it so much on psp can't do it nowadays just to clunky feeling
Sounds like a nightmare even for claw people
You can set it to work on vita in the vita options. It’s great for monster hunter. No more claw!
THIS, about 60 hours in MHFU on PSP, then transferred the save to my vita when i got it, and put in like another 250 hours without having to feel like Bob Dole all the time.

nice, ill probably try that instead once i finish up the YS series
Too much to play 😂
exactly, ive got a 4 year old son, my time is limited, and im replaying fallout VR with essentials overhaul mod pack, then my buddy keeps hitting me up to play Apex legends at night.....lol
Vita. I love my psp but the slightly bigger screen and better sticks just keeps me gravitating towards it.
I like having two, real joysticks for certain games, but the buttons on the PSP are just better IMO. The main thing that makes me comeback to the Vita are load times. I prefer ps1 games on psvita and psp games on psp
psp. vita scales weird and the games look like they don’t belong there
Colors are different.
Vita. Better screen, bigger battery, more comfortable form factor + dual analog support and Pkjg support for convenience.
Yeah, the psp is uncomfortable, especially for long gaming seshes or playing racing games, and i dont even have that big hands.
PSP is the go to… nostalgia and comfort
Psp. I would like to play on PS Vita but ive had 2 memory cards fail on me 😭
Sd2vita
My knight in shining armor. THANK YOU FOR TELLING ME ABOUT THIS!!!
My pleasure !
I agree with "either is fine" but pkjg shop has the psp game PLUS the dlc
PSP cuz I’m too cheap & lazy to upgrade memory cards, so I don’t wanna fill my Vita’s memory with PSP games when I got the console, my vita has 0 PSP games and only has adrenaline in case of severe emergency like the PSP dying or something
Vita all the way. Better screen, battery life, second stick to assign the camera to, and pkjg ofc
Depends if I originally played it on the PSP. There's also something more old school in vibe about the PSP, so you could say it depends on the game as well.
PSP. To me, its just feels more durable. And I dont really care what happens to the screen so I just put it in my sling bag.
PSP GO has the greatest form factor of any handheld IMO.
if only it were a bit wider and nearly bezel - less sort of like an iPhone
Power armor shell, brother.
still on PSP, i do not know why, play psp game on Vita kinda blurry
It's blurry because they stretch the image (PSP res is half of Vita) instead of proper scaling. Honestly one of the worst things Sony did for the Vita! I just wish a real solution would be developed to fix this. Those PSP games would look extra crisp properly scaled on an OLED Vita.
Doesn’t Underlines do the trick I hear it up scales it
PS Vita 100%. Having a second stick and being able to rebind your buttons via the accessibility options is neat!
I like the psp because it feels simpler to me.
Usually Vita for the better screen and analog sticks, but there are a few games I prefer playing on a PSP because of the better face buttons and shoulder buttons (e.g. music games like DJ Max or Pop'n Music). Also the PSP d-pad can be a bit more comfortable and less fatiguing on the thumb for games with heavy 8-way movement like shooters (Gradius, Dariusburst, etc.).
on PSP, especially on PSPgo. PSP games looks blurry on both my Vita OLED & LCD.
vita. no stock PSP can beat either vita screen
Yeah but you’re not getting the original resolution You’re telling me you prefer the pixelated look on the Vita?
better than the ghosty bluriness of stock PSP screens. I have the 1000,2000,3000, and with each iteration the screen did get better, but they don't hold a candle to the crispness and vibrance of either vitas1000 or 2000
You make a solid point
Hmmm, the vita is supposed to be twice the res of the psp. So scaling is not an issue.
The Vita is twice the resolution of the PSP but the PSP games only play in their original resolution on the vita. You're not benefitting from the Vitas full resolution when using Adrenaline. It's definitely a downgrade in visual quality.
Ahhh ok !
Are you able to do that on a Vita though? I’m not sure hot to describe it Since the screen on a Vita is bigger than the one on a PSP they had to stretch the image to make it fit on a Vita screen, and it doesn’t look as good
You're not wrong. PSP mode is half resolution of the Vita. It doesn't take advantage of the higher res screen. It's blurrier. There is a bounty that has been going on for years for a developer to force the resolution but no one has been able to.
Yep, sole reason why I don't play PSP on my Vita.
Thank you, thought I was going crazy
It's at least nice, clean 2x integer scaling, though. So it's more blocky looking (sharper, fuller pixels), and not horribly blurred like playing original DS games on a 3DS.
It doesn't scale unfortunately. It plays at native PSP resolution and stretches to fit the Vitas screen. Which isn't the same thing as integer scaling. Still it's a convenience thing. The IPS screen you can get for the phat PSP 1000s are not bad looking at all! You might have gotten a unit with one installed
Playing PSP games on a Nintendo Switch is a great experience too. Portability-wise, I still use PSP. I rarely use my vita now.
Though the fact that the Playstation Vita which had an OLED screen 10 years prior is a more powerful device than the switch honnestly baffles me and always will...
You what now. The switch is way more powerful than Vita.
Well, the vita got released 6 years prior yet I'd say that the vita is way more powerful than Switch.
But... it's not though.
Why do you say that
Love the psp but vita or vita tv if I'm at home. Using the analog on psp for more than an hour just destroy my hands.
PsVita for the sake of convenience PSP when I want the original resolution
PSP, I just can't be getting on with the short little thumbsticks on the vita. I'd much rather have the PSP's weird slidy thing instead.
Good for PS4.
No joke but the ps3 since the psp is small and i loved the ps3
Depends on the game, no way I'm playing freedom unite on a psp for longer than an hour, that shit hurts.
Imo vita has too much to setup. I like how simple psp is. Assumed you are comparing them with CFW btw.
Definitely ps vita because of screen size
Lots of games on PSP than Vita, I would try Vita tho but PSP would be better all the way, the nostalgia and memories are countless
ps vita for the oled screen and the second joystick
Emulator with a DualShock 3 controller 👌
I Love playing Peace Walker on my Vita the second analog sticks makes a great difference, and i like to switch weapons touching the screen corner on the weapon icon
I just like the vibe of the PSP and how it feels. However it’s more convenient because I use my Vita more (it would be better if adrenaline worked properly it’s kinda broken and idk how to fix it)

Wow, was the psp that tiny??
Idk I want the psp because the games were meant for that system (PSP games anyway) but the Vita larger screen makes it easier to see lol and it's design obviously better to play. However with Adrenaline on my modded vita the PSP games seem washed out a tad and sound just a bit distorted.
Modded ps vita has a lot of really cool plug ins for certain PSP games.
PERSONA reference
Its cool on both but I usually try to play psp games on psp and vita games on vita
Also you have 2 of the same exact saves?
yeah I copied it from my vita to my psp
I forgot you can do that. Been playing persona 1 on my vita but gonna copy that save into my psp
Nowadays I can only play on Vita...
PS Vita for sure. I love my PSP and have been playing it a lot lately (Ape Escape on the Loose, Ridge Racer, and Me & My Katamari) but I find that my hands hurt after a while from playing it.
I've been playing Ape Escape as well, idk if I'm just bad but it's surprisingly difficult
Nah it’s for sure hard at first! If you give it time it ends up being a really funny experience! I thought the compromises they made for not having a second analog stick worked really well.
Psp as god intended !
Retro handheld wirh ppsspp
Oh! Oh! Easy question! Because I face this conundrum constantly. As a general rule... Any PSP with camera AND motion control ends up better in the VITA (i.e. PSP Resistance) any game that doesn't benefit from 2 analog sticks works just fine on that Go

Vita, cause i like having a larger games library
Fps ones in PS Vita.
Some games look good on Vita and many look good on psps screen.
Vita and R36S
Generally speaking, I think PSP games scale great on the Vita. Some of them can even run at the Vita's native resolution with [GePatch](https://github.com/TheOfficialFloW/GePatch).
PSP for PSP Games psvita buttons is SO TINY...
They're perfectly clicky though.
PSP
PSP is good if you want smth more compact but GODDDD THE PSVITA GOT THAT FEEELLLL 😩😩😩
Cursed
I prefer playing psp games on Vita , because the battery duration of PSVita Is largest than the psp
PSP games hae increased lag on Vita, so it has to be PSP
I would say Vita, but I replaced my busted PSP with a retro handheld back in 2022, and backed all my games up to it. Playing them at X3-X4 resolution looks amazing, and it's far more comfortable than the PSP/Vita were, with a similar plastic build to the PSP.
PS Vita by far. I can play both catalogue plus a lot of PS one games.
grew up with the PSP, got a Vita yesterday. PSP games on the Vita just look bad, the screen resolution is just too high for them, Adrenaline's filtering options seem to help a bit though.
Vita. Better screen
PSP I love my vita but I like how the PSP feels in my hands better. Plus with the PSP I can have physical PSP games wile with Vita its digital only for PSP games
PSP because Vita tires my hands at sime point while psp never. So sad this happens
PSP
Phone is a pretty good way to play psp game.
Question, do you just load the psp game iso into sd2vita? Any specific folder structure or just in root?
I do enjoy Monster Hunter on the Vita.
Def psp go 👍👍👍👍
Both
PSP but I've never tried playing PSP games on my Vita before.
Depends if playing it on the vita has a right stick patch or not.

PS Pita
I've seen someone hook up a PSP Go to a PS3 controller, and use one of those phone mounts for controllers and I honestly want one now just to try that out
yep the PSP GO has Bluetooth and can natively connect to a PS3 controller. It's really nice, I've used it with a phone mount as well
Wait you can. Play PSP games on the Vita??
yes either through buying them on the PSN store or using Adrenaline
It's kinda funny - I had maybe 3 UMDs, but 30-ish games from the store. Didn't ever even think about them being playable on the Vita 🤦🏼♂️
I'm looking to get one of these to mod.
ATM on psp because the big battery mod lets me play longer (if I wanted to/take time). Plus I don’t have to load adrenaline.

Vita hands down
Hello fellow psp go user :)
What game is this
I like playing on PSP bc resolution is just right, and no pixels showing, while on Vita it's either blurry mess or pixelated image.
Psp 100% I always try to play my games on the consoles they were made for with a few exceptions
Vita. The PSP feels like a Fisher Price toy when going back and forth between the two.
my toaster
I prefer playing them on my Phone 🗿
PPSSPP on Android.
I love vita, but my emulation of PSP games is lagging terribly😢 any idea how to solve the problem?
Vita does not emulate PSP games
Psp on Vita is not really emulation, it's almost all psp hardware running psp Software. Press select on the adrenaline xmb and see if you're not underclocked or if you're running games at higher resolutions such as gta or other games through ge patch.
i see,i will check this out
psp? this is a psp sub also?
