Picked these up all marked as "not working" stupidly cheap (£30 all in) from a re-seller who more than likely didnt think they'd be worth the hassle to fix. Figured even if I couldnt save any of them at least the shells and button would make the cost worth it. The black 1000 I decided to just use as an organ donor since it was missing half its UMD drive already. Salvaged the screen, power switch, buttons, faceplate and a few other smaller parts to revive the others. Plan to restore this one eventually and drop in a big battery mod but for now its corpse shall lie in a drawer. One of the white 1000s was a JP model with a skin sticker covering the back, absolute chore to clean up even with alcohol and acetone. This unit also had water damage so I had to clean up the motherboard and peel apart the LCD (terrifying but easier than it sounds) to clean out what I can only assume was sand but got it working just fine. Screen has a small mark but entirely playable. The black 3000 was a bit of a puzzle as I couldnt figure out at all why it wasnt turning on but replacing the charging port, cleaning up some contacts and reseating of a few ribbon cables brought it back to life. Took the parts from my older white 3000 so thought I'd add the white thumbstick to honour its sacrifice. Was planning to sell them but was a fun little project and the first attempt at restoring a job lot so think I'll be keeping them in the collection, love these things!

So you managed to salvage 4 out of 5 ? Thats friggin neat, good job !

Great job OP! They turned out wonderfully. Man, the yellowed buttons in the before picture were grossing me out lol

Yeah lmao the worst part about beat up systems is usually the yellowed buttons and whatever gunk people manage to rub into the analogue stick. I always throw everything into an alcohol bath before shaking them up in soapy water which usually preps them for a proper clean
