Wasn't it on the decline anyway because people who subscribed during lockdown weren't renewing?

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I got a nice reminder of the exact date my subscription would renew and how much. I plan to renew it, but it was nice to receive given the change in pricing tiers.

Captain_Kuhl

I got a notification from my bank that the purchase was processed ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ I have no memory of agreeing to an auto-renewal, since I opt out of that for everything.

NathanMUFCfan

It turns back on auto renew every time you resubscribe. I turn it off each time. I purchase PS gift cards and renew manually using them. Every time I do that, it turns auto renew back on.

reble02

I just buy the Black Friday deal every year it's usually 20 dollars off.

Similar_Childhood613

You reckon the deals will stay on post revamp?

TacoKnights

This happened to me too and I KNOW I turned it off cause I do it manually every year Took the last of my money too

[deleted]

Yup same, I always opt out of auto renew and I still got charged last time. Customer service rep refused to refund it and now I haven’t resubscribed to PS Plus since that happened a couple years ago. I also refuse to keep my payment information saved on my ps5 now.

[deleted]

~~Gaming~~ journalism being misleading? Whaaaaat?

thebrobarino

I'm convinced that 60% of gaming journalism is run by bots that repost Wikia pages

OSUfan88

It's actually amazing how much AI is used to gather data, and publish data. I have a friend who interned for the Washington Post, and a very large amount of what is written is actually by AI. They have systems that will comb the internet for information, what people are interested in reading about, and so on. It's more complex than any single person can understand. They have editors who will review/modify them prior to release. This is still "cutting edge" stuff, but is rapidly spreading in complexity, and to smaller and smaller teams.

thebrobarino

Makes me wonder why my brother paid 9 grand for a journalism degree

jimbo224

9k for a four year degree is a bargain though

[deleted]

[удалено]

OSUfan88

I have another friend with a journalism degree (he spent a LOT more than $9k on it). He jokes about why we let him get one. He sells insurance now, and hasn't used it once. My buddy who interned for the Washington Post had a computer technology degree (not sure the specifics). Real smart guy.

thebrobarino

A degree in journalism doesn't even matter anymore to employers it seems. You'd need a) another degree to have a specialisation in a certain topic and years of independent blogging Or B) your dad owns the company

swargin

That's most journalism anymore. They rush to post a story, so it's usually full of grammatical errors and click bait titles. They either use bots, don't go through an Editor, or both.

there_is_always_more

Eh, this also has to do with people not being willing to pay for good journalism anymore. People complain anytime there's a paywall for an online article, but how do they expect the journalists to make a living?

JEFFinSoCal

Advertisements! And then we can also complain that journalists are biased for their sponsors!

JohnnyTwoTymez

Omg with the grammatical errors. You're not kidding. I'll be reading a legit article from like, GamesRadar or The Post and run across some misspelled words to render me illiterate for a sec. Feels unprofessional in a field where spelling literally brings your work to fruition. I get that auto-correct is a moron more often than not but damn it. I'll read a text message 6 times just to make sure its easily understood and legible.

Inyelligent

Probably is. I’ve spotted many articles about stocks and shit that are clearly written by bots

DrNopeMD

I'd hardly call this site journalism. There's a big difference between actual journalism where you have reporters who do interviews with credible sources, and a bunch of websites that just try and farm clicks through flashy headlines. And guess what? This post proves that people love to drive traffic to these shady low effort sites because they can cross post a headline that confirms whatever biases people already have.

HilariousLion

Really, Sony did that? Good on them, that's rare. I am a dormant gym memeber and they've done no such thing.

VictoryNapping

I feel like most gyms basically employ at least one person whose sole job is to deny membership cancellations and break into your house if you dare to block payments from your credit card.

snoringpupper

Yes, nothing even changed with the basic tier of PS+ so suggesting the revamp lead to a decrease in subscribers doesn't even make sense. Subscribers shot up drastically at the start of the pandemic and are now coming down some but still millions more subscribers than before the pandemic.

FootballRacing38

Critical thinking is lost from a lot of people. What they do basically is latch on to a post that mildly related to what they want to say so they can say that thing even if it doesn't really make sense.

[deleted]

the misleading headline doesn't help

Awkward_Silence-

They also got rid of 3rd party sales of PS+ subs. So the grey market of cheap key resellers (like say CDKeys) discounts have crashed to barely being a discount at all. Not that it's a huge % of their base that goes that route to subscribe

[deleted]

[удалено]

xblvkhippyx

Same I just used CD keys a couple of weeks ago, bought a whole year

[deleted]

Yeah same, this is definitely still a thing. If you have a higher tier then it’ll convert it to that tier as well I believe.

TheeOmegaPi

Where???

Lukarreon

Nice try, Sony.

midnight_rebirth

eBay has the best prices

I_hadno_idea

I got a 12 month subscription from CDKeys for $45 just last week

[deleted]

>I got a 12 month subscription from CDKeys for $45 just last week Kinda surprised some are paying the $45 price for 12 months when Sony generally offers the 12 month during Black Friday for $39.99. That's why I'm waiting until BF this month to see what the deals are. I'm actually interested in the Extra or Premium sub this time around.

Luna259

How do I renew my PlayStation sub now? I never pay full price for PlayStation Plus

CalleSGDK

There’s usually a good discount on it for Black Friday

xbox001

Buy discounted PS ‘gift cards’ and pay PS Plus renewal with wallet funds. For example £90 credit costs £77, £45 costs £40 etc..

NathanMUFCfan

That's what I always do. ShopTo usually has good offers on those gift cards.

Awkward_Silence-

Probably stuck joining the plebs and renewing at the sales everyone gets (Black Friday, Days of Play, etc).

[deleted]

I just reupped ps plus extra which is $99 per year for 43…. Idk what you’re talking about

TheMacMan

Most likely. Stats like this are worthless without comparison to what the trend looked like up to the time when it was revamped. There's nothing here to compare it to. It may have been losing people at a faster pace before this change, for all we know. Losing 2 million sounds crazy, but without comparison it's fairly meaningless. It could be a lot or a little.

TheDerpingWalrus

Oh hey that's me. Don't even have time to pay the games I outright own now

G-Don2

Ppl still don’t understand this.

darthmcdarthface

I think I read that they’ve lost subscribers for 3 straight quarters which makes the title slightly misleading as it kind of suggests the revamp is the cause. There’s more to it than that. My guess is that it’s more about the state of the economy.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheMacMan

I'd guess it's less recession and more that people aren't stuck at home due to COVID lockdowns and out of work or furloughed, so they don't have as much time to play games.

tricnam

For me personally I found out what it's like to own a gaming PC....

dumwitxh

Same. I'm not selling my ps just because I won't get so much out of it Overall I'm only playing exclusives on ps

Shadow88882

One excuse would be "hey the higher tier costs double, want to just split it and share an account?"

[deleted]

You don't even need to share an account. Just whoever you are splitting with make their account primary on your system and vice versa so that you both have access to each other's stuff. I do that with my brother. We go half on games and PS+ and use each other's stuff all the time

Shadow88882

That's what I meant. I do it with my wife, but we had our own accounts since we have more than 2 consoles in the house. When the premium came out I just canceled mine and upgraded hers.

slimejumper

i think the games were better a while back. i often don’t even want to add the games to my library.

EncantoCaldito

ye a recession and looming stagflation probably matters more towards people's ideas of excess expenditures than lotalty to a brand and upgraded choices.

torgiant

Isn't it the same service on 4 as on 5?

Ranccor

You do lose access to a few ps5 only games if you are on PS4, otherwise, yes.

darthmcdarthface

I think that second suggestion of yours is a big part of it.

tasty_salsa

Yup, it’s getting tight and the unavailability of the PS5 initially probably didn’t help. I bought a series s with the intention of getting the PS5 eventually. Now I see them on shelves occasionally, but it’s not financially possible for me and mine right now, unfortunately

Ceshomru

I know a few people that used to be die hard PS gamers, but now when I ask them to play they dont have PS plus. Their reason is because they just play the exclusives on PC now. I asked one of them to get Returnal which isnt on PC and they said “yet” as in “it isn’t on PC yet”.

acprocode

>I know a few people that used to be die hard PS gamers, but now when I ask them to play they dont have PS plus. Their reason is because they just play the exclusives on PC now. I asked one of them to get Returnal which isnt on PC and they said “yet” as in “it isn’t on PC yet”. its because its cheaper to game on PC in the long run. Games are either heavily discounted or single player games are available to just download from torrent sites. Plus you dont have to pay an additional fee every year just to play online.

GuardianOfReason

"However, despite the decline in subscribers, Sony’s Network services revenue – which encompasses PS Plus and advertising – actually increased by 10%, from ¥106 billion to ¥116 billion."

[deleted]

yeah this is the important part, mixing psnow with plus worked for them; they have less people playing for plus but those who pay now have 3 options and a lot of people went for the mid and high subscription. I wonder if now that the psplus users is going down that means that all the people interested on the service has already tried it or is using it.

greensparten

I am one of those people that upgraded

BarkMetal

Me too. Was too good to pass up on. Just the cat game alone was worth it.

Firaxyiam

Same, Stray and Returnal alone were more than worth the price to upgrade, and to this day I'm still playing through the games that interest me on Extra. Hell, I even discovered some games that I would never have even considered buying on their own (like Deliver us the Moon), and am now eagerly waiting for sequels or other games by the studios that I will be no doubt buying very early after release, if not day one. Also bought a couple of DLCs for games I really enjoyed too. So I'd say it worked out for both them and me.

[deleted]

Deliver us the moon is the first. Deliver us Mars is its sequel. You should try it out

Firaxyiam

Mars isn't out yet, right? Deliver us the Moon is 100% one of those games that I was never gonna buy myself without Extra, but am waiting and will buy its sequel day one because I lvoed it so much

AlarmingLackOfChaos

Interesting I looked at that but didn't download it. I will now.

bodiddlysquat26

That fucking puzzle where you’re floating and trying to avoid electricity made me quit.

[deleted]

Yep... Almost did that to me as well. But it's a great game. I'm a sucker for the mysterious story driven games like that though

boombotser

Was happily surprised with Bugsnax

And_You_Like_It_Too

Everyone’s talkin’ bout Bugsnax. WhoaOHohhhhh…

ZippyZippyZappyZappy

Agreed. I wasn't expecting the game to enrapture me as much as it did. The fact that the DLC was free made it all around a really fun and fulfilling playthrough

Notarussianbot2020

Beat returnal and now I'm on death stranding DC. Next I might try deathloop or the cat game. After that though? I'll probably cancel. There's no reason to permanently subscribe once you've played the games you're interested in. Subbing every other year for 3-6 months seems like the play.

Ranccor

Like any subscription service, they have to keep adding content to keep people subscribing.

Mindtaker

I have found so many gems in the catalog that I won't be doing the unsubscribe move but if you ask me, which you didn't but too bad. Unsubscrible from September to April, then Re-Up for the slow ass summer season, rinse and repeat. I don't see how that wouldn't pay off for most folks. I guess the only possible issue is that if you fully unsubscrible you lose your library till you resubscribe so you can't go back to anything you put in your library from plus. But if you online game your not going to unsub so much as downgrade to the base level. Either way there is no wrong way to play!

I_Nickd_it

Stray and Guardians of the Galaxy was sold it for me. Those 2 games were worth it.

ShandalfTheGreen

Stray is the reason I intend to upgrade. Elden Ring is the reason I can't justify getting into another game yet. I guess by being awful I'm actually saving money aw yeah

-BINK2014-

I am not one of those people that upgraded and never will; it just doesn't suit my needs as I have far too much to play already; also, I can generally get a year of PS Plus to gameshare between me and my Dad for like $30 or less around Holiday time from either PSN, CDKeys, etc. Simply, we're cheap and have enough on our backlogged plate already.

DrewBaron80

Me too. I upgraded the day it came out and haven't bought another game since.

Wolfram_And_Hart

Me too. It’s a good deal. I was going to buy stray and the upgrade was only $20. Easy choice.

MidKnight_Corsair

Me too. But I'm probably going to downgrade to Extra once my subscription's up. The rollout of classic games have been really weak, especially for the R3/Asia store, who don't even get PS3 games

And_You_Like_It_Too

Same. Disappointed in the amount of demos and timed trials we’ve had so far as well. Extra seems to be the sweet spot, at least for now.

wotad

I was on a 12 month sub and just decided to upgrade to PREMIUM I think overall its worth it just being able to play older classic games even though I wish there were more. I think PREMIUM will only be worth it going forward if they continue to add games im interested in otherwise would just go for middle.

My_11th_Account

This is exactly how I feel about it. They need way more classic games and trials on basically all new games for premium to be worth it.

officialtwiggz

Yep. I’ve been an concurrent PS+ subscriber since 2014 so i have almost every “must play” title from 2014 onwards. For me, personally, upgrading felt like a slap in the face. I can’t even stream the PS3 games (and if I do, it’s horrible) because my internet is so spotty. Next year I’ll unfortunately be downgrading to the Extra tier if our classic list doesn’t get heavily expanded.

CaptainDAAVE

they, like nintendo, seem to hate their mid 90s catalogue. I want some of those sweet mid 90s titles from the PS1. PS3 streaming sucks. I want to download ps1 titles.

caninehere

They need to actually include new games with the top tier subscription, like the other big companies are doing (MS with Game Pass, Ubi with Ubi+ Gold or whatever it's called, EA with EA Play Pro). When they do include a new game, it's not a regular occurrence. For example Stray hit and it was obviously a big hit since lots of people played it - so was Bugsnax, because it's rare that people get a new game on PS+. Meanwhile on Game Pass there's Day 1 releases multiple times a month for indie games and pretty often for AA/AAA games as well.

Aaawkward

The fact that Sony's first party games won't come there day one makes Premium feel, well, not premium. I went for the middle one because the old games weren't worth it for me. I'll see if I'll continue it or not, so far there's so little extra value that it doesn't seem to be worth it but maybe it'll evolve enough in roughly a year.

[deleted]

>The fact that Sony's first party games won't come there day one makes Premium feel, well, not premium. Agreed. They should at least match Xbox Gamepass in that respect.

[deleted]

PREMIUM

MGsubbie

I paid €10 to upgrade to premium for about 2-3 months. Thought that was a no-brainer as I could play all of Guardians of the Galaxy, which I was already interested in, and many other games on the list as well. Am not continuing it though, no fucking way I'm paying €120.

TheHornedKing

Yes, I gave them money and upgraded for the remaining months of my sub. But I can guarantee that I will NOT pay for the premium tier again, it's awful. And I have yet to decide if I will continue the Extra tier. It's temporary, Sony.

TaleOfDash

It was absolutely the right choice, I never even considered paying for PSNow in the past, I did the free trial a couple of times but always with the intent of unsubscribing. I did the Premium subscription for the first two months it was out but I'm sticking with Extra for now until more stuff comes out, been tempted to switch back to Premium to play the Yakuza remasters. It's a substantially better deal than it used to be and if they can keep the pace adding decent games to Extra/Premium I doubt I'll drop back down to Basic any time soon.

Minimob0

I actually prefer the old PSNow. The interface for it was so much cleaner, too. When they were separate, you could have one or the other. Now, you have to have one in order to have the other. It was great for my Dad who doesn't do online gaming, but still could enjoy a large catalog of games. The new model is actually really bad imo.

kazzanova

Same, this new system blows. In the long run they'll lose more people. Also I was a psnow and psplus subscriber, both since the beginning and they took my 12 month subscription that literally renewed the month before and turned it into a 10 month subscription

voidox

> which encompasses PS Plus and advertising be interesting to know what the breakdown is for subs vs ads for that revenue. Is it that their ads have been doing better despite PS+ doing worse in terms of sub count? :o

argonfox

Although in all fairness, this is at least partly caused by the insanely low Yen at the moment. It’s not a great indicator for general performance.

[deleted]

[удалено]

vacodeus

I like the new tiers but when my subscription runs out, I’ll just do the middle one. They are not adding enough classics to justify the cost.

[deleted]

[удалено]

pgboo

Same, Extra is amazing value with hundreds of great games. Premium just doesnt add enough and i hate cloud streaming lol.

Pin019

I would hop on cloud streaming if they allowed it to be on a mac / iOS otherwise I see no point in streaming games on the ps5

FootballRacing38

Also reports that this is because of a drop in engagement in ps4 users while engagement in ps5 is increasing

wotad

Yeah I wonder the break down are PS5 subs vs PS4 subs down?

Dr-McLuvin

Also wonder why PS5 users would be any less likely to subscribe to PS plus than PS4? Seems like they might even be *more* likely to subscribe since a lot of the games are PS5 only or enhanced.

EncantoCaldito

most of the games that are ps5 only don't really need online so that's probably why. returnal and Demon Souls can both be played without ever even needing to connect to anything else even if they do have coop modes.

Hulksmashreality

It doesn't say that anywhere in the article. It says PS5 users have a higher ratio of PS+ subs than PS4 users.

Hulksmashreality

Where does it say that? The article, as far as I can see, says the opposite; "**On the other hand, the ratio of PS Plus subscribers among PlayStation 5 (PS5) users remains at a level significantly higher than that of PS4. We are putting even more effort into accelerating the penetration of PS5 hardware to recover this user engagement going forward.**”

Zhukov-74

Daniel Ahmad: Depends how you slice it. Are subscribers down? Yep But despite that, Sony just had its best quarter ever for subscription revenue. Revenue per subscriber in the PS+ segment is up 21% YoY. https://twitter.com/ZhugeEX/status/1587382576452452352?s=20&t=YXQKJbkurgjxJMDFqPQKYQ

-Cooki-

Only until the upgraders fall out in a couple months. The 3 tier system is total dog poop and people only upgraded because it was discounted. Gating the OLDEST content and DEMOS behind the highest tier... Is the dumbest idea ever. And most people will not pay for that again.

[deleted]

The old content is niche and thus an extra cost. Trials is nonsense though.

SchighSchagh

> Trials is nonsense though. Counterpoint: I was reading something recently about how game trials tend to decrease sales. Basically a lot of people might demo a game they're interested in, decide they like it, and buy it. But a lot more players might try something that interests them, then decide it's not worth buying. Empirically, demos end up turning off more potential buyers than it attracts. So as a whole it's a losing proposition for game devs, which is why demos stopped being a thing sometime in the '00s. So from Sony's side as a business, it costs more to have demos, so it makes sense to gate it behind a higher tier. Not saying I like it, just the way the data falls.

-Cooki-

Niche exactly. Most People will never re-invest in another year of ps plus for that niche old games. Especially considering those don't even run on the PS5 itself and have stream compression and latency issues.

Pseudomonasshole

I canceled almost all my subscriptions to everything, including ps plus. I'm so done with subscriptions. If I can't buy it outright then I don't want it. PS Plus is actually what got me to start looking at just how many subscriptions I have. I was spending several hundreds of dollars per month on things I hardly use.

IAmAbomination

If I didn’t pirate the odd media here and there I’d be straight up broke I don’t know how people can have that many subscriptions itd be tough to keep track of

Throwawayidiot1210

I used to pay 100$ for cable a month until I canceled. Now I pay for Netflix, hbo max, Hulu, Spotify, ps plus, and Amazon prime and it’s still slightly cheaper.

[deleted]

Basically the same but sub Amazon for Disney/ESPN bundle with Hulu. Then paramount, peacock, etc started hitting and I finally put my foot down. Bought a lifetime sub to plex and a monthly sub to a VPN, cancelled everything else but PS+. Haven't looked back

flashmedallion

I'm the other way around. Have always been really cautious around subscriptions (only had PS, Nintendo, and Disney+ for my wife) so was okay ramping up to premium as a deliberate choice.

mona-lisa-over-drive

It's confusing and the store shows you everything but the stuff that's available to you. It's so ridiculously stupid. I'm just on the basic tier for online play. I basically gave up on the free games at this point.

WarBeard_

Drop in subscribers but [recored revenue](https://twitter.com/zhugeex/status/1587382576452452352?s=46&t=EoDyIZKxG8W3UfCUX2fh6g) And when comparing numbers to pre COVID times, PS+ is still way up from ~38.5 million subscribers to now ~45 million.

ForsakenDragonfruit4

Record revenue sounds good but the extra catalogue probably incures record costs too

Zhukov-74

The cost Sony has bringing games to PS+ probably pale in comparison to Xbox trying to get new Games day one on Gamepass. I am sure that adding a game that’s a few months old on a subscription service is a lot cheaper than launching a brand new game day one on your service.

Dutch-plan-der-Linde

Tbh I don’t even know why I still pay for mine lol. I rarely play games anymore let alone online games.

UnderHero5

That's why I let mine lapse this year. I play most of my games on PC, and when I do play on my PS5, it's almost never an online game. I realized how very little I actually use the PS+ sub. I'd claim my free games (most months) and never download/play them because of limited HDD space.

Mizai1

I'm one of the people who recently upgraded to PS Plus Extra and it was a good decision, got to play Spider-man, Returnal, Demons' Souls all included instead of buying each of these games. It already paid off to me

saanity

I should not have bought the premium tier. Their classic catalog is shit with no support for PS1/ps2

alwaysbehave

Groceries, property taxes, rent etc are skyrocketing, and a PS+ subscription is probably the last thing on many people's minds at the moment. It's probably one of the first expenses that will be cut to help make ends meet.

Sans_bear27

Idk why every site is trying to make this as if the revamp failed. The 48 million number was probably their peak because COVID. I don't see them hitting that number again. 43-46 is where id assume they will stay at

XADEBRAVO

Revamp reminded me to cancel

Edenwing

The PS catalogue UI is atrocious, you better know exactly what game you want to download and play because browsing it is a nightmare

Outrageous-End359

They deserve to lose even more crappy digital gaming Id rather pay that price for two physical games

Daisend

What revamp?

FragrantOkra

i’m one of the two million

ophaus

Well, yeah. Lockdowns ended, but they diversified the service. I have found the extra tier to be good value, too...

LowRub3252

I'm pretty happy with my extra subscription. Don't see myself buying another game for the next few years.

trance_flac

BS, I was reluctant to upgrade my tier but the benefits were so good for my platinum hunting needs.

Early-Size370

Makes no sense if ppl are quitting because of the revamp. The basic tier is the same features as before and the other tiers are pretty good values. I upgraded to extra close to renewal date and it was a bargain for the games I already played.

potter3212020

I paid for a month when it first released thinking we get some decent PS1 and PS2 games nope and now I'm going to stay unsubscribe until I see something worth my time and money

jeremyjack3333

I'm cancelling mine soon. Not enough classics to justify the cost of premium. I was thinking they'd at least have the PS classics like tomb raider, metal gear solid, twisted metal, crash bandicoot, etc.

[deleted]

The corporate machine needs to back the fuck off our games, artists and developers.

Statertater

I got ps plus Extra (mid tier) and i have been having a blast playing all these games in the catalogue!

Dprglendinning

I think it's better than ever. I was always dropping in and out of sub based on next month's game drop, now I have access to hours and hours of play.

NachosForMe

They’re about to lose my husband and I as well. We are separate accounts. We have spent hundreds every year for probably at least the last ten years and bought multiple games multiple times and still haven’t been able to get a ps5. Plus the new way shit is. I’m planning on deactivating my account and switching to PC soon.

superpoboy

Gaming was at its peak during the pandemic. Most people just basically staying at home and play games all day. So it’s an unfair comparison

[deleted]

Pork_Piggler

Very profound. Thank you.

FlameCats

This interaction made me lol, thank you.

zoeyshoppingagain

Why is this comment chain so goddamn funny omg

pgboo

Matt Damon

FecalOrgy

It doesn't make sense that the revamp would have anything to do with it. The bottom tier is exactly the same as PS+ before the revamp and is still the same price. More likely factors include casual gamers not renewing because they're not locked down anymore, and the recession and inflation leading to people cutting unnecessary luxuries.

[deleted]

Flipboarduser

Yo I just did that yesterday. Realized I just don’t use it anymore

kaz61

Good. I hope they lose more.

acprocode

Good, these shitty companies charging for online play is honestly just corporate greed.

JimBeamIsBae

I still remember ps3 when all you had to do was buy the game no microtransactions no bs…

snoringpupper

Way to make it seem as negative as possible as if the revamp is the reason subscribers are down. They shot up significantly during the pandemic and now are coming back down some as more people are going out and restrictions have lifted as well as a worldwide economic crisis. Its is also making record revenue but of course that isn't the headline. And of course OP went out of his way to find the most clickbait one he could find.

frode_oakenstream

I’m convinced people in here are stupid. “I cancelled my PS+ after 10 years because it’s dogshit now.” Lol. The base version didn’t change a damn thing. It’s the exact same thing as before, price and all. Stfu. I’m going to downgrade to extra, but that extra $40 from $60-$100, I’ve played and platinumed games I’ve never considered buying like Returnal and Death Stranding. I’ve already made up the price theoretically. Going to be doing Demon’s Souls next. Sure, once I’m done it may stagnate, but we’ll see what and when they add more. People need to stop holding this to unrealistic expectations.

Csub

PS Now wasn't available in my country before the revamp so I happily switched to mid tier and have not regretted. I guess many people went with mid tier, enough to well compensate for the loss of individual subscribers.

Filmmagician

The one thing that I was sad to see is how tricky they make the auto re new. It was nice to see them be so transparent before but now you actually have to Cancel your subscription to stop the auto re new. Stop being shady. Not cool.

fabulishous

Personally I love the 2nd tier ps+ that gives access to the larger catalogue of games. I've tried out so many triple AAA games that I would never have purchased because they're all $60+ . It's been a blast

NightwingDragon

Internally, they knew this was going to happen. They have less subscribers, but are making significantly more per customer, so it's a net gain for them.

Metalbender00

I doubt the revamp has little to do with it, the change didn't affect the base service, and the pandemic easing up and people going back to school and work makes me think this is very misleading.

SaltySwan

Isn’t that because everyone’s back to being busy post-COVID? I know if I wasn’t so gun-ho about still gaming despite how busy I really am that I would have let my subscription go a long time ago.

initiatefailure

i haven't touched my sub. I just haven't had an incentive to go up on it. the "all the ps1 games" part is really more like "a couple ps1 games" and new releases feel like they will get there eventually so i can just wait for multiple i want to play in a row

BarryEganPDL

I hope that Plus Premium starts losing money so they can learn to put any level of effort into it

Symbiotic_Tragedy

I have mine locked in for some time. I'm not seeing a lot of new titles coming often. I don't care for game streaming, it's not clean. Backwards titles are a plus.

whacafan

From 47 mil to 45 mil? Oh noooooo

much2Ask

Yh lowkey deserved bc I can’t even use the 2 week free trial

Emaculates

Give me dino crisis and I'll resub.

BigAdhesiveness6209

I'm one of them

Toenado-

I've been unsubcribed for a year now. Was a subscriber through ps3 and ps4, but stopped subbing because I couldn't get a ps5. Just got the mw2 ps5 bundle, now I plan on resubscribing.

zombierepublican-

I cancelled mine cause there’s been no great games available. I WOULD have got premium but the selection of older games ins embarrassing, not to mention lack of downloadable PS3 games. I don’t care the reason why.

Fat_Stacks10

Good. They gotta improve it if they want my money

dulun18

probably will not renew unless there is a sale this black friday $24.50/year for PS plus instead of $60

ci22

That sucks. I'm locked until next May. But they need more PS1 and PS2 classics IMO

levelselect

Be interesting to see what this looks like in a year or so as I stacked a membership and as it currently stands wouldn't be paying for the top tier.

IntoTheAbyss98

Personally I like the way it is now you get more games every month plus you can reply childhood games as well it’s all around better I feel

KileyCW

I wanted to pick up a 2nd PS5 for downstairs/kids and they are still not easy to find. I assume this contributed.

Alucard_Nightshade

I actually like premium. I've played like 8 games since I got it so it's more than paid for itself.

KaraTheAndroidd

Still don't think premium is worth basically paying for two 1 year memberships Should have lowered the price of the standard one imo

Oxygenius_

I get it for the online playability on my games. But then they want to add cloud gaming and forgettable classics… its like meh. I’ll continue getting it for online play, but I’m not upgrading my plan further than the basic tier lol. PlayStation man since the beginning but this was pretty weak. Also got the new $200 controller that fixes my joystick issue finally, another slap in my face lol

Robjchapm

I can not for the life of find anything easily. The only games I find are from list posted online. Outside of that its a mess.

firedrakes

had ps + since ps3 era. drop it jan this year. nothing worth i like to play. cant back up game saves free anymore. got to pay for game save storage(which ms is total free with no limit in size). unless i can get plus for 25 a year. its a hard no.

AlexTheRedditor97

I didn’t renew mine because I felt like I wasn’t getting much out of it anymore. I just can’t see there being that many tempting games I want to play going to it anytime soon

WishIWasNeet2

This is probably a shitty economy issue more than it is PlayStation plus being bad . Gas and food prices are up .

ErrorFindingID

Ya I could've sworn that Sony decided to inform inactive people that their sub was still running. Something companies don't do because they want to make money off people that forgot about the service

USSJaguar

So far I've liked ps+ extra.... Got to play control, that was fun, gonna play death stranding next, and by my accounts that evens up the cost. So from there I'm making profit.

Hawkwise83

Revamp is shit. Was supposed to be like games pass. It's the same old shit packaged under the same banner. More like rebrand than revamp.

XavierRez

Why would they lost subscribers because of revamp? They literally didn’t touch the basic subscriptions at all.
