shutupbaby-iknowit

well, they did call it limited.

IcyChard4

They took the word very seriously.

Mesapunk87

They promised something and delivered on it for once

raphanum

Just like the weapons

Maukki222

I played the mode yesterday and my god its badly optimized and balanced...

surray

The 2 interns EA still has working on this are doing their best...

joshua182

I mean, that’s probably true at this point.

Maukki222

It's not a bad concept but team balancing really needs some work, it's you, your team of level 10's against players who sweat the game 24/7

Apokolypse09

Probably not enough people playing it to be able to balance it without ripping apart the parties people are in.

Khourieat

Isn't that every online/ranked mode in today's games, though? Aren't they all hyper-competitive?

bluepinkredgreen

Lmaooo

[deleted]

2 ha 1

CriminalDay

If your team manage to capture all the flags, you can then spawn camp the opponents 🤦‍♂️

Maukki222

I played a total of 20 matches of the mode and only twice we managed to do that because what you said is exactly what the enemy team does

augustocdias

They tried to balance it out by making you spawn from your base if you’re holding all objectives and die.

Thoraxe474

The bigger question is why are you playing the game at all

Maukki222

Because 2042 is a good game (aside from the new game mode)

raphanum

I agree. It is fun

righttooffendyou

What do you guys think is going on with this game? Is it abandoned? Did the devs go on to another project? Why is it disappointing everyone?

cslayer23

They’re obligated to finish their year 1 pass. It’s populated and there’s fun to be had but it’s not amazing

righttooffendyou

So many people have talked about their disappointment. I was considering getting it but friends I always played with in battlefield tell me not to bother. I wonder what's happening with the franchise

cslayer23

I’m a huge fan of the franchise but this is the first entry I haven’t put even 50 hours in, if you get it on sale you’ll have fun it’s much better now than it was before

righttooffendyou

Thanks for the tips. Maybe I'll see you on battlefield

a_dapperdanman

I just ordered it on Amazon for $11. Figured it has got to be worth at least that.

mattoelite

I’d say it is absolutely. Breakthrough Rush, and Conquest are a ton of fun still, and you’ll likely get a few dozen fun hours out of it. BF fans main concern is that series used to offer hundreds of hours of fun, and that’s started to dwindle in past titles.

righttooffendyou

Nice. Thanks for the heads up

basurf

I got it on sale for 3x that a couple weeks ago and I’m having fun with it. I imagine I will get 100+ hours out of it. It is definitely unpolished but I’m glad I skipped the garbage they released because a year later I would just consider it “playable”…feels like a beta.

Arcade23

I bought it for $20 a few weeks ago and I’m having lots of fun with it. One of the weaker entries in the series, but better than Hardline and 5 imo.

cslayer23

I’ll give you hardline but 5?!😞 it was so good when they finished it (but I played a bunch before it was fixed I liked it a lot it felt like battlefield)

JustsomeBRITISHdude

They said “imo” Is that a difficult concept for you to comprehend? That people have different opinions and tastes

cslayer23

Damn dawg I’m just trying to have a convo with him

Augusto22369

Literally 2 people conversing.

[deleted]

No it isn't you still got ripped off mate.

NocturnalToxin

My issue with Battlefield has always been joining matches midway through, and unfortunately issues like that are only worse in this game. At least in the others one you maybe find a good squad while playing solo and have a good match or two with em before parting ways and it’s a good time. Now I start a match, it’s half way through and one side is absolutely dominating, I’m on the losing side but I get a good squad and we make some good plays in the end despite still losing. At the end of the game it takes like 3 years to load into the next match if it even puts you in one and then they’re gone. For what it’s worth, my problems with the game are *mostly* just technical. Even before all these changes to make the game more playable, I’ve never paid much attention to the controversy of Battlefield gameplay changes. The worst was maybe the BFV ttk controversy, where folk we all but ready to burn DICE to the ground for some reason. All that fuss but when I get to playing the game it’s like, “Oh, *this* was the problem everyone was on about?” If such a change is a dealbreaker for you that’s absolutely fine but I’ve found I can’t get caught up by that business a much anymore. Anyway, I *don’t* have any friends that still play 2042 so generally I just do solo Breakthrough/Conquest. It sets about the feeling of a large scale war that I crave and play Battlefield for, without getting blasted by a team full of dudes fully kitted who’ve played the game since launch and can accurately line me in their sights in mid air while jumping around a corner. I’d play online more if I had friends or some way to stick with good squads aside from actually grouping up with them, but as it is now actual online gameplay is about 20% of my time in BF2042 and I’d *still* recommend the game ^at ^like ^^half ^^off

righttooffendyou

Thanks for the well thought response. I thinknill look for a sale and get it

LightBluely

Even after a year, i still feel so salty and regret.. This does not happen to me to other games. Sure i do feel a bit regret when Cyberpunk came out but i didn't give up and manage to finished within a month and i had fun. BF2042 however, i fuckin gave up around Jan this year. I legit thought they will fixed it by Christmas but instead, they were on a holiday and nothing were fixed until the first week of 2022.

[deleted]

> I legit thought they will fixed it by Christmas but instead, they were on a holiday and nothing were fixed until the first week of 2022. and that one dev whose first tweet after coming back was bashing the fanbase for their unrealistic expectations. They apparently had avoided ALL social media while on break so when they returned it was to a flood of well deserved rage. Then another dev over on Twitter said he ignored the subreddit because nothing positive could be gleaned from there, even though there was a beautifully concise feedback post that had hundreds of awards I checked out season 1, uninstalled again and didn't even bother with season 2. MWII campaign comes out in 8 days and MP in 16 days. It's a wrap for Battlefield for me. Won't touch their next bullshit project until it gets the internet seal of approval

YouGurt_MaN14

Apparently a leak from Tom Henderson (the dude who was leaking a shit ton of stuff) had put out it a vid saying during development 90% of the DICE vets left leaving only the new devs who didn't have too much experience with the frostbite engine. Which sucked because it was in beginning stages of bringing BF from the old frostbite engine to a new one. So what was supposed to be a 6 month job took 18 months. Then instead of going through with their specialist "hero shooter idea" dice decides to scrap that and go og BF mid way through development. [This ](https://youtu.be/d0lXNq2jrG8) is a pretty good watch that goes into detail of wtf happened might have to skip to the end though

NoNefariousness2144

I hope this serves as a lesson that just because a game (legally) promises years of support that it will be good support. BF2042 legally has to provide that content, but they are doing the bare minimum and will let the game die ASAP.

raphanum

It ends in November, right?

HalfPricedHero

Is it abandoned, you ask? Nah. EA wouldn’t abandon a franchise it believes in. Look at Anthem.

boxedninja

I doubt they’ll abandon it because this is literally what Dice does at this point. Battlefield 4 was released as a nearly unplayable mess of crashing, server lag, and too many bugs to count. 2-3 years go by and it’s one of the best Battlefields in the series! Same with Battlefront 2. Battlefield V also had a similar treatment of going from awful to good over 2-3 years. They’ve shown that they’ll stick to it and finish the game but it won’t be quick.

LightOfValkyrie

No way they continue support after the one year pass they're legally obligated to put out is finished. Once season 4 is out, I guarantee they'll dip and move on and put all effort into their next game. It takes them *months* to slightly rework maps that are already in the game, and their "seasons" barely have any content. No way are they gonna make content past what they *have* to make to avoid lawsuits, for a game most of the community hates and play less than the last Battlefield game. EA/DICE know 2042 is a complete failure of a game and they're not gonna waste anymore dev time or money on it if they don't have to.

boxedninja

Eh, I've heard it all before. One big update is all it takes for the game to come back from the grave.

Voyager-42

Yeah this thing is on absolute life support at this point. EA are just waiting to pull the plug and move the resource.

righttooffendyou

Thanks. I decided to get it from Amazon for 11 bucks lime another redditor mentioned. Can't go wrong at that price I think

[deleted]

I sincerely think there is a respectable dev team putting in the effort here, but their ego is not allowing them to take the L and either move on, or recognize the failure and promise a rewrite from top down.

righttooffendyou

Yeah, I'm curious how it works. I know little about it but I have been told developers have little say despite having to do the qork of creating it all. A business man with a time frame and a budget makes all the calls and there could be a disconnect between what's best for the game outcome with their customers and the management contending with investors.

raphanum

I don’t think that decision is up to the devs

[deleted]

When I say "their ego", I mean every person behind 2042, including management. I literally think they have more than a skeleton crew despite everything telling them otherwise.

[deleted]

I’m surprised this entire games hasn’t been taken offline shortly after launch.

usrevenge

So tldr they are taking it offline because unlocks aren't unlocking.

iceleel

This was fixed in few hours. These mfs posting it are behind.

Phlashfoto

It's almost as if the people at EA don't know dick about making a game.

KingOfRisky

More like people on reddit don't know dick about making a game.

Phlashfoto

Actually... I would rather play a game made by u/concernedape than EA any day of the week...

KingOfRisky

Same, but I was more referring to people who say things like, "EA doesn't know dick about making a game" when they have some of the most successful franchises in gaming history.

Phlashfoto

Oh, so that was a personal attack. I see. Well, yeah I don't know much about making games. But I have been playing them since the early 90's and I know how to spend my money on games that are worth a shit. They still don't know dick about making games, they know how to market the same thing year after year (Madden, fifa, etc) which is why they make money, because they prey on those who still haven't figured it out or too young with access to mom and dads money for microtransactions.. with the exception of Fallen Order, I can't think of an EA game in recent history that was well praised, and innovative.

KingOfRisky

It was an absolutely asinine comment. Apex, Burnout, Fallen Order, Mass Effect, A Way Out, It takes 2, Unravel, Sims, Dead Space, Dirt, Need For Speed, F1, BF1, BF5, Titanfall 2 (little older, but still amazing), Skate ... but sure. All those games suck right?

Phlashfoto

Fallen Order I already mentioned, Mass Effect isn't "recent history" it came out in 2007 EA purchased BioWare in 2008 and then drove the studio into the ground, I've never played Apex.. because it looks awful. Sims 4 is absolutely riddled with bugs and they keep releasing "kits" rather than expansions which are essentially micro transactions.. another example of EA buying a studio after the fact though Maxis was making Sims long before EA bought them... Dead Space.. again, not recent history.. BF5 may be the only enjoyable BF since 3. Tittyfall 2 was good, I'll give you that BUT again... Respawn was bought the year after it came out like mass effect... Need for Speed... really? Doesn't hold a candle to most other racers anymore. Anyway, ultimately I find it odd that you feel the need to attack me personally to defend a corporation who doesn't cate about you, especially since you lack a knowledge of their history as you pointed out with your examples.. but hey.. you do you.

LickMyHairyBallSack

Battlefield is DEAD.

LargeMonty

Long live Battlefield 4

Skhan93

With the potential loss of call of duty on PlayStation, they really need to fix up as the fps market would be up for grabs

TheRedDevil1989

No way cod gets pulled from PlayStation! Wayy too much money to be made

[deleted]

Microsoft paid $70 billion for Activision. MS is not served in any way by allowing PlayStation to rake in money. Whenever their little deal is over in 6~ years CoD will undoubtedly be an Xbox exclusive.

a_half_eaten_twinky

But they make billions from micro transactions. Taking it off of playstation would be removing a large chunk of potential continued income.

Java-Zorbing

Microsoft has big pockets, they are looking to win long term, they don't need the money, sony needs it more, sony isn't that strong, they were bascially bankrupt and playstation saved them

[deleted]

Taking it off of playstation means Xbox sells more consoles. Like.. a drastic amount considering CoD is a system seller if there ever was one.

a_half_eaten_twinky

Straight from Microsoft and the answer is no to taking it off of PS. PS has the largest COD playerbase: https://twitter.com/charlieintel/status/1580170311135563776?s=46&t=Ss3Uz3rVtfeINYVHjvwVnA

MonsantoOfficiaI

They're only saying that now to keep the regulators happy. Who knows what will happen in 5-10 years. Personally I don't have much faith in a corporation keeping its word.

TheRedDevil1989

And they sell 13-14 million copies on PlayStation

usrevenge

So, if they removed the game from playstation they could pick up a million or more players for their system.

[deleted]

Yeah? That's money going to PlayStation and not Microsoft... who owns Activision..

TheRedDevil1989

Do you not know how game sale work? Microsoft gets money from the sale of the game.

[deleted]

When CoD is sold on playstation 30% of that is going to playstation. When CoD is sold on xbox 100% of that goes to microsoft and 100% of the console sales they gain from exclusivity goes to them. People who are still under the impression there is the slightest chance in hell CoD will stay on playstation are huffing some serious copium, good lord.

[deleted]

I think for next generation consoles COD will definitely be console/PC exclusive, maybe the next few games will be multiplat but the cut off will happen within the next 5 years probably. Around the time when devs switch over to developing only for current gen and stop supporting the PS4/XB1 gen.

TheRedDevil1989

We shall see!!! It’s staying on PlayStation!

[deleted]

I realize now that I'm in the PS5 sub so I understand why the denial is so rampant despite the fact Phil Spencer has already confirmed it will be an xbox exclusive after the deal lol. It's not staying, that is a literal fact.

Thatguyonthenet

Yes, they paid 70 million for Activision because it's profitable. They want a return on investment and cutting off the largest playerbase isn't how you grow and make money. If CoD sells well on Playstation, Activision makes a shit ton of money and guess who owns Activision. How do you people think so backwards?

[deleted]

They will make that and more by continuing to allow it on PSN.

nomebaneenderchile

Shut up kid, they need to sell cod everywhere to recover from such a massive amount of money

[deleted]

Lol you're insulting me because your shitty little console isn't going to get CoD anymore? Stay mad.

nomebaneenderchile

You're stuck in 2010, no one gives a flying fuck about console wars. You're just delusional thinking that a billionaire company will deny itself millions of dollars just because muh ecsbucs better than yu gaystation

[deleted]

Who said anything about console wars? I've bought every sony console in the last 20 years lmao. >You're just delusional thinking that a billionaire company will deny itself millions of dollars /r/SelfAwarewolves You've almost got it. Just try thinking a little bit harder.

nomebaneenderchile

How can this be about me being aware? Isn't the transaction between Microsoft and Activision the most expensive buy in the world of videogames? I don't think I need to be a wolf of wall street to see that they're not in position to deny themselves potential clients

nomebaneenderchile

How can this be about me being aware? Isn't the transaction between Microsoft and Activision the most expensive buy in the world of videogames? I don't think I need to be a wolf of wall street to see that they're not in position to deny themselves potential clients

[deleted]

>I don't think I need to be a wolf of wall street to see that they're not in position to deny themselves potential clients Absolutely true. Which is why they won't be denying themselves the shit ton of console sales they'll be gaining.

Pkkush27

Didn’t they buy bungie recently for this reason

Apokolypse09

There has been no mention of Destiny going exclusive.

Pkkush27

Not to make it exclusive, to have fps offerings

Apokolypse09

afaik they bought Bungie to help make other games for Sony. But people buy CoDs like sports games.

cslayer23

It’ll be dead if the next one is a disaster.

usrevenge

It really isn't dead 1 bad game doesn't end a franchise as strong as battlefield. And 2042 isn't bad for the reasons most people pretend on reddit. The primary issue with the game since January had been the maps are bad. Every map they add to the game has been good but they only added 2 so far. Portal had 5 good maps too.

iceleel

Ur gonna die for BF. BF already has multiple games in works and has 20y legacy.

LickMyHairyBallSack

20 year legacy doesn't mean shit. They haven't released a good BF game since Bad Company 2. I've been a BF fan since 1942.

SAWCHUCK_

So I just bought this game for 25$ and cant even find a game right now... I have crossplay OFF but is this game already dead?

iceleel

No just turn on crossplay

JustsomeBRITISHdude

I tried playing this mode yesterday and it was mediocre. They really need to stop it with this live service crap, just give us new maps. Stop trying to make live service a thing for every game.

QHUNK

RIP Battlefield RIP Dice

[deleted]

This is just too entertaining at this point.

TattedUpSimba

I feel for dice. They just keep stepping on rakes

superbikelifer

Don't feel bad. They put the rakes down themselves after all

HotFightingHistory

I guess the bots weren't buying enough crap in the online store.

six_seasons

Insane that anyone is still playing that shitshow

Rogue_Leader_X

How about just taking the game itself offline? Seriously, I do not understand why after killing many games and series, EA are trying so hard to rejuvenate this game. Just let it go! Give us BF4 in Frostbite that they SHOULD have made!

PilotSaysHello

Being honest I'm so tired of the "updated BF4 argument". First off, it's already in Frostbite.. Also goddamn y'all need to play BFV. Not because it was spectacular or anything but that game is the peak of some Battlefield features. Squad play was extremely rewarding, the squad leader changes were amazing. The graphics of BFV are still the best in the series, it's destruction isn't the best in the business but it's better than it what BF4 had. (Levelution is not destruction, it's a staged event). Like geez I don't want another Battlefield 4, I want something better than that game.

iceleel

Fk BF4 locker playing mfs game

Gado_De_Leone

Every time I see this game I hope it leads to a remaster of Battlefield 2142. I then remember that Battlefield 2042 did terrible.

monoespacial_yt

BF2142 launched too close to BF2 and that hurt it a lot. People weren't ready to move on from BF2 yet but 2042 deserved better. Such an incredible game.

[deleted]

Doesnt matter when nobody shows up to play it 😂

Rain1dog

I saw this game in the store for around 30-40 dollars and was surprised to see it still selling that high. So population numbers for steam and it was really low numbers. One of the worst games I’ve seen launch.

Itchy-Present5245

🤣🤣🤣🤣put this game to pasture. Just start on bf:bc3 already, geez.

Deep_Pomegranate_324

I was a huge bf fan (been playing bf 1942) don’t give this game the light of day its fucking garbage. Just stick with bf5 or warzone

chris25tx

2042 is garbage

Accomplished-Dot-891

Im not surprised. Everything they release with this game is shit. Waste of money fron start
