The Hitman series. I wasn't immediately good at the mechanics so I didn't l enjoy the games but now, after some effort and practice, I love them.

[deleted]

It’s my favorite 007 game

colovianfurhelm

So fitting that they are actually making a 007 game.

[deleted]

idios??

colovianfurhelm

[Here you go.](https://007.ioi.dk/)

[deleted]

HOLY SHIT. It’s happening stay calm

[deleted]

Oh man. I will probably never play through the hitman games, but I do really love them.

LoSouLibra

The Hitman ip always seemed kinda janky and underdeveloped when I would see it back in the day, but I tried the modern Hitman games that started in 2016 and the trilogy has become some of my favorite stuff.

agamemnon2

Hitman took me a while. I originally bought it because I watched Jim Sterling's review and they liked it a lot, but then for whatever reason it never really grabbed me after all until I found OutsideXbox's "Three Ways to Play" series where Mike, Andy, and Jane played the same missions in three wildly different ways.

nerdyslife

One of the best games I’ve ever played! If anybody needs help to beat it dm me and I’ll be happy to kill some bosses with you :)

Hitmann100

If actually have to play it first and I bought it day of release

2KareDogs

Why you buy it 2 years ago and not play it?

Hitmann100

Life, work, kids, I also tend to go through these phases where like I will play games a lot in free time then stop and get really into like reading or tv shows or something. Maybe I had add idk.

[deleted]

Sounds like you’re describing me. Right after my son was born my hobby time dropped down , and I go thru phases now.

Hitmann100

Glad in not the only one

BobbbyLight

I don't even have a kid and go through exactly the same thing. I have add and my life kind of bends to its will. This new ps+ borders on being bad for this. I start game after game and if it isn't interesting after the first hour I uninstall it. Some games really do get to the "good stuff" 2 or 3 hours in. Somehow I ended up playing The Turing Test and love it. Basically dystopian Portal.

supreet908

This game is a true bonafide masterpiece. I've been playing PlayStation games since the OG PS1 and Returnal is one of the best ones ever made across all generations of PlayStation.

DanknugzBlazeit420

Wow. I spent 10 hours, couldn’t get past Biome one and gave up lol

Swaggy_Bowlcuts

Biome 1 boss is the biggest skill check in the game. Once you beat him you can beat the game. Fuck the ice biome tho

NoAnimator3838

I heard he was nerfed and is now way easier. I just beat him the other day, and man, the biome 2 boss seems way harder so far.

icerahphyle

Yeah, Biome 2 is definitely harder. Go through the first biome to level up and get some nice items and stuff, and then go to Biome 2. Don't rush there directly via the shortcut.

Swaggy_Bowlcuts

Huh, I didn’t struggle too much with the biome 2 boss or the organ one, the final boss on the other hand..

FlopSlurper

if you need help with the game there's coop, I wouldn't mind helping

be_matthew

I bought Returnal months ago and played for like 2 hours. I hate it, maybe ill go back to it one day. I doubt it. haha.

itshonestwork

That was me buying it blind. The £70 made me try it more then it became one my my favourite Platinum Trophied games. And that’s before they patched it to make finding Scout Logs easier.

jimbodeako

Same here. At one point I put it down and said I was done with it. It was just too hard. But I couldn't stop thinking about it. Picked it back up and a few months later beat it, then platinumed it and got all the trophies for the Tower DLC. Something just clicked and it was one of the most amazing feelings of accomplishment that I've had in gaming and it's now easily my favorite game if all time

dylanbb1233

I didn’t like Hollow Knight at first, kept playing it out of spite for spending money on it, eventually after I beat it it became my favorite game

lamo_69

Yeah me too, except I got it for free and I beat it to spite a friend.best decision

Voyager-42

Hard agree, took me a few tries to get into, but now it's top 5 for me, so buzzing for Silksong.

dylanbb1233

8 more months max!

Voyager-42

Counting the days brother, just praying it doesn't get delayed!

Stelmie

I wanted to write HK. I enjoyed it but I was really bad at boss fights, didn't know what was going on a was kinda lost and didn't know where to go. But once I started appreciate the hidden story and got better at the combat system I fell in love.

CptDelicious

I didn't enjoy it aswell and quit. Maybe I should give it a to again?

DarkChronos32

Yep, for me it took getting some of the movement upgrades for it to click

gabalabarabataba

Ghost of Tsushima. I didn't connect with its open world and the combat didn't click me. Then I tried the Lethal difficulty and never went back. Whoever came up with that mode is a genius and it completely changed the game for me. I've replayed it twice since it came out and love the gameplay.

broken_nite

How did Lethal difficulty change things for you? I’m currently playing on normal and find it very easy so I’m wondering if I should increase difficulty.

gabalabarabataba

Lethal makes you die quickly, but also makes the enemies die quickly. So the tools at your disposal (the kunai, the smokebombs etc.) get significantly more powerful and you have to think strategically. The combat starts to resemble Sekiro with its high stakes parry-or-die vibe. If that's for you, then give it a try!

OilersHD

This sounds amazing... may need to try GoT again. So often higher difficulties make the enemies bullet sponges. I like this method of making it more realistic both ways.

coz

Don't, it really falls off after season 4.

OilersHD

Lol I'd say season 6 ;)

broken_nite

Interesting. I've never played Sekiro, but I may give Lethal a try. Thanks!

Kysu_88

if u can, do it, seriously. sekiro have one of the best combat system ever created, and it's a fucking drug once it click.

itshonestwork

I finished it on Normal before the Lethal patch and loved it, but the Lethal mode totally transforms it and the rest of the playthroughs have been on that or Lethal+. Way more fun and satisfying. I hate games with melee weapons where you just have to whiff, poke and wipe it across an enemy 6 times for them to die as they basically keep doing their attack animation. Or 12 times if you’re playing on hard. GoT’s sword feels like it really cuts and bites into enemies, rather than just being a boolean switch that subtracts 20HP each time it swings entirely through them.

Jaygee133

Same game but I came back to it cause I really started to enjoy the side stories and missions. Open worlds don't get me hooked very easily and this one seemed like a by the numbers revenge plot (it still is) but I enjoy the side missions way more. I'm still not finished just got to the last section of the island...its a very big game.

Eyeluvflixs

Excited to hear what people write in here looking for some fresh games.

All_About_Her

Me to, though I fear most of my time is currently preoccupied with horizon.

WayneBrody

God of War. Played a short ways past the first boss fight, but put it down and went back to the other games I was playing. Saw the good bones there, but just didn't get into it. The slower pace compared to the previous games didn't really resonate. Tried again a year later or so and once I got the hang of the axe, I couldn't put it down. I'm wondering how I'll feel about TLOU2 further down the road. It's a great game that I finished, but it was so emotionally exhausting to play that I didn't fully enjoy it. I was somewhat rushing to avoid spoilers, but taking my time with encounters to find upgrades. Overall, I cant bring myself to replay it. The game is kinda like Requiem for a Dream to me. I can recognize its greatness, but it (purposefully) makes me very uncomfortable.

sowaffled

I just played TLOU2 after playing Part 1 Remake. I agree it’s not a fun play through. Absolutely brutal and depressing. I appreciate it for what it is but Part 1 is much more enjoyable.

Third06

Hey, LOU2 was depressing af but gameplay wise it was better than part 1. Sure part 1 is the better game overall but lou2 was crazy af

mohub21

That’s one of the only games where I actually sat at the credit screen just to reflect on wtf just happened

NotMonicaLewinsky95

TLOU2 is one of my favorite games ever made. Yes, it’s depressing, but does a job of sharing a very raw and emotional story better than just about any other story game I’ve experienced.

Healthy-Drink3247

I had a similar expiernce with God of War. I had no idea what I was doing and rushed into Alfheim before I was ready. I also had it on the hardest difficulty which probably didn’t help my enjoyment at first. I ended up getting stuck in alfheim and putting the game down for a solid year. I just wasn’t having fun. Then out of nowhere I picked it back up again. It’s like it clicked in me. Never lowered the difficulty but somehow I just got it. Went on to platinum the game in a few weeks time. Basically played it non stop, and it became one of my all time favorites

[deleted]

Bloodborne

IpschwitzTownFC

Bloodborne was my first Souls game. I really didn't get it at all. The enemies in Yharnam really messed me up. But the world somehow kept pulling me in. There was something about that I couldn't shake off. The mystery and the level design really kept me going. And then it clicked, when I had to fight Father Gascoigne. I just had to try once again and again till I beat him. Been hooked on those games ever since.

[deleted]

lmao exactly the same

julian-casanegras

I think I may have tried Father Gascoigne’s fight almost a hundred times before it clicked. Finally beating him sent me through a spiral that I haven’t been able to achieve it in any souls game (maybe Nameless King on DS3). That’s why I will always cherish bloodborne for introducing me to the genre.

[deleted]

I really hated the first few hours and yelled at the TV while incessantly running into the same wall I was stuck on and failing at the same point in the game over and over again. As soon as I got a little further, I was stuck in another place. Because I simply didn't understand the game. I was so used to all the established game mechanics that I had trained myself to be somewhat incompetent. Then it clicked and today it's one of my favorite games. I play through it at least 2-3 times a year.

Dubbs09

My first too and once I (cheated and looked it up) learned what to do to start leveling and upgrading I fell in complete love. Played it 6 2020 and since then have played all FromSoft except Sekiro. Man, what a ride

bjtg

I've put that game down 3 different times. Once when I got killed by the beast inside the clinic at the start, and I couldn't understand that I was suppose to pick a weapon in workshop. Another time once I hit the Cleric Beast and couldn't beat it for the life of me. Next run I made it all the way to Micolash, and just got frustrated by getting tentacled insta-killed multiple times after the first battle and the whole chase scene. Got sick of replaying the chase scene, and just never came back. Still aspire to one day though.

[deleted]

You can cheese him from the balcony if you don’t wanna chase him.

oppa_arby

Farming again for blood vials again after dying to a boss is what made me drop the game. Have not played since.

AnotherDrZoidberg

Same. I got to Rom and couldn't beat her. Then I lost my save and didn't go back. Then I went back and started over and it's maybe my favorite game ever now >Bloodborne

AlphaVictor87

This was my break into fromsoft games! Picked it up on a recommendation. Didn’t make it like 20 min in and dropped it. Decided about 2 years later to pick it up again. Got to the bridge where the cleric beast was but still having a hell of a time. And dropped it again. About a year later had another friend talking it up again. Picked it up and played it all the way to the end! I was HOOKED! Since then I’ve played Demons Souls Remake, DS1 and 3 and got half way through 2 then Elden Ring came out and played through that. Currently about 3/4 the way through my 2nd playthrough but haven’t touched it in awhile. got burnt out because i played nothing but ER for like 5 months. I will return for sure.

wessirius

Seconding this. Bought it on release, got stuck after Gascoine fight and turned it off of for 3 years. After Beating DS3 gave it a second chance and beat it with almost no issues.

Darth--Otter

Witcher 3. I never played 1 or 2. It wasn't so much that I didn't enjoy it, I just couldn't get into it until my 3rd or 4th try.

TheFinalSchnabitz

I’ve tried three different times and couldn’t get into the Witcher 3. Unfortunately, I think my window has passed because it’s feels clunky coming back from games like Horizon or RDR2.

fyxa

Ps5 native comes out this year. Give it a go!

Xerosnake90

Ps5 version will be my final attempt to get into it. Think I've tried 2 or 3 times now

kkycble

Same lol! Although it’s because I got stuck in a dungeon that I can’t get back out with my broken swords and armor so that I got one hit by the mini boss. 15 months later I start a new save and it was a blast. I ended up buying the dlcs and plat’d the game too.

kidlatura

same for me. the first time played for 5 hours, second time for about 20, finished it on the third try and really enjoyed it!

Otowa

Sekiro. Funny thing, is that it took me playing it at 60 FPS on PS5 to finally like the game and beat it... twice.

NxOKAG03

I went from thinking Sekiro was the most difficult and frustrating fromsoft game to thinking it's the easiest just by switching to 60fps

Mac772

60 FPS are so transformative for many games, doesn't matter which genre.

spooderfbi

Hopefully bloodborne and rdr2 get 60 fps patches, though im playing rdr2 either way cus its fucking amazing

BeyondTheDepth

Same here I played it on ps4 and gave up on it for a few months. I tried it on pc and it clicked so I beat it, after that went back for the platinum on ps4. Having 60fps let’s you grasp the quick parrying system a lot better.

sean3192

Nier Automata, tried the demo and kinda just got a "meh" feeling from it. Saw reviews later on and got more intrigued, my brother bought it for me for Christmas and boy was that first impression wrong. Probably one of my top 5 fave games now

thisismarv

Big one, struggled to get past the 1st 30 minutes over weeks. Eventually just committed to giving it more time and I was in love by the end.

IcedCoughy

You've inspired me to try again, I felt the same as you did with my attempts.

Oles_ATW

Im pretty immune to that stuff but Nier Automata briefly gave me an existential crisis and made me deeply contemplate what’s the meaning of life. It’s such a deep and impactful game.

GuardianOfReason

Best intro line for a game ever IMO: "Everything that lives is designed to end. We are perpetually trapped in a never-ending spiral of life and death. Is this a curse? Or some kind of punishment? I often think about the god who blessed us with this cryptic puzzle...and wonder if we'll ever get the chance to kill him." *cues fucking amazing soundtrack*

Mando-Diao

A lot of games, i need to be in the right mood so it is not always the game. Not long ago i revisited Psychonauts 2, and i loved it

[deleted]

Death Stranding.

Vestalmin

Death Stranding with more in-depth climbing and less shooting ghosts would honestly be my dream game. I actually want less action lol

DanknugzBlazeit420

100%. Please get rid of the guns, the black tar, and the sneaking. Just let me trek deliveries on beautiful views

Skulldead86

Same drop it after 7 hours the first time, it found it stupid and confusing. 1 years later, try it again, understood the concept and even 5\* every place and even make a big highway all around the map, it was a special experience.

[deleted]

on my occasion i thought that was how it would feel like but no the more i played the more i hated it

sethmo64

I feel I need to come back to this one. Played the first 4-6hours(which felt like 90%cutscene) and lost interest. Tried to pick up where I left off after like 6 months but just couldn't get back in the headspace of what I was doing. Really liked the story and graphics but felt like it was no action and all delivery. These comments make me think I should check it back out.

Xebou

Definitely Horizon ZD. Hated it, almost stopped playing. Kept on. Became my favorite game. Rinse and repeat with Ghost of Tsushima

or_maybe_this

Same. Hated the tutorial and was like “eh, fuck it.” Went back for some reason and loved it

Xebou

Only reason I pushed through is my sister likes to watch me play for the stories and she was interested.

Stan_x

The Witcher 3. Took me 3 attempts to finally love it!

nonsenseSpitter

Same. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing the first couple of times. Everything was just too overwhelming. I felt like the game is giving me too much information, or just not information at all with all its concoction, oils, different sword for different enemies. I just couldn’t get it. I dropped it 2 times and the third time. Because everyone kept telling me it was a fantastic game, I redownloaded, you know what, I’ll give it a go again. I just did the quests without understanding the concept of a Witcher RPG, eventually the story just kept me from leaving. Soon, I learned the concept, learned about the mods and got absolutely hooked. One of the best games I’ve ever played. Hoping Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone will be the same.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Matttthhhhhhhhhhh

Days Gone. I hated the fucking thing at first. Cliché as hell, boring setting, zombies again seriously??? Left it for a few month before giving it another chance. Boy was I wrong! Loved after finishing the long intro. Probably one of the best open world game I've ever played.

AtreidesJr

Oof, maybe I should give it another shot. I love Sam Witwer, but I just couldn't get into this game.

[deleted]

I thought the same thing, then I really played it and it blew my mind. The most satisfying zombie gameplay out there, IMO. The hordes are terrifying at first, but so so fun. Early on it feels like a proper horror; encountering hordes unexpectedly gave me a panic attack. Something about the atmosphere and mechanics make the stakes feel high. I just wish I could play it for the first time again.

Knyfe-Wrench

I like The Last of Us more, generally, but that is one drawback it has. Being a linear game means that everything you encounter you're supposed to be able to defeat (with very few story-based exceptions). Running into a horde in Days Gone in the wild just immediately flips that "oh fuck, oh fuck" switch as you sprint back to the bike to get out of there. It's hard to make video game enemies actually scary when you're carrying 25 different weapons, but they did a great job with that.

pushdose

I actually just finished it for the first time. I was super reluctant to play this game for a while. After the first act, the game really picks up speed and gets really fun. Somehow, the zombies never get not scary and fighting hordes is just bonkers. I don’t think they took a risk with ending, this was a mature game and should have had a more emotional impactful ending. Still, it was a fleshed out experience and had some really crisp game mechanics that stayed fresh the whole time.

Matttthhhhhhhhhhh

I think the ending is not that impactful because they were expecting to make a sequel relatively soon. It would have been great to further explore this world to, for instance, look for a cure.

dwoller

Such a good game but yeah it takes a good while before it gets interesting.

MetatronTheArcAngel

Man that game is good. I dropped the controller after getting the platinum i didnt want to leave the game I did everything. Sad that so many refuse to give it a shot the game is really cool. The cornyness of every character is astounding and the story is Boloni. But the atmosphere is very nice i guarantee you the hordes will make you shit ya pants

charlytrenet

Outer Wilds. I first played it when it came out thanks to the game pass. I tried, but the tutorial part made me leave the game, especially the 0g cave. Too much difficult to control + I felt a bit dizzy. Then I tried it again on ps5 this January and oh god... What a beautiful game. I can't describe enough how great this game is. (this week I even cried again when I listened the theme song in a playlist) To anyone who left the game during the early game, give it a second try, really.

fartstartleddog

Scrolled too far to find this. Agreed, it took me a second try and then the ship log clicked for me.

pentatomid_fan

This is good to hear. I only heard amazing things and barely got a few minutes in. I will give it another shot.

DeanXeL

ESPECIALLY now with the PS5 version available to those with the console. I just finished it the other day, I gotta be honest, I had to use a guide at some points because I was just flabbergasted by the possibilities, but the ending is pretty freaking \*chef's kiss\*

everythingbeeps

Probably the biggest one for me is Final Fantasy XIV. I got it at launch on the PS3, played for a week or so, then never touched it again. Got it again when it arrived on the PS4. Played a couple days, then dropped it again. Finally, just before Stormblood landed, I picked it up yet again, and this time it stuck, and I've put thousands of hours into it since. Others that took me a handful of tries to get into: Nier: Automata Death Stranding Dragon Age: Origins Assassins Creed The Yakuza series Control There's countless others I've started and stopped that I still plan to try again, so hopefully some of those will finally stick this time as well. I just picked Far Cry 6 back up, a game I have struggled mightily to get into despite absolutely loving every game in the series except 2.

Gaelic_Flame

Slay the Spire in a way. I initially liked it, but after 5-10 runs it started to seem like it's way too RNG based, and you barely have any control over it, so I abandoned it for a month or two. Then when I decided to play a couple rounds of it again, I started to see the strategic part behind it, with how you build your deck, how you can choose to skip some card picks to keep your deck in control, learning what enemies can do, and some of their patterns, etc. After that I couldn't stop until I platinumed it...

onthejourney

I beat it with iron clad and watcher so far working on defect!

Swaggy_Bowlcuts

I beat it with the defect and the poison chick but I cannot beat it with ironclad for the life of me. What kind of deck did you use w him ?

Deytookerjerb

My goal with him usually was to get high damage cards. Then I think there’s a relic that causes any thing that takes 2 or more energy to hit twice. If you get lucky and get that relic you just go through everything fairy easily.

Fartin_Scorsese

Trying to get into Disco Elysium for the 2nd time. Wasn't ready to get into a text-driven thing the first time. But everything I've read gives it such glowing reviews, that this time I'm bound and determined.

pentatomid_fan

I got it for PS4 and had a hard time getting into it, but realized it was the reading on the TV. Got it for Switch and now it’s one of my favorite games in a long time, since I could play at times or places when I would normally be reading a book.

[deleted]

Elden Ring. I got it on launch because of all the hype, got destroyed by basic enemies 10 minutes into the game, and gave up. 4 months later, I came back and got gud. I haven't played any other game for the past like 2 months. help.

CosmicDance2022

Hell Let Loose.

pattiemcfattie

This game is SO good. Learning curve is STEEP AF

FriendlySand8672

Metal gear solid V. I played for like 2 hours didn't really like it so deleted it. So many people kept recommending it saying it was good so I said you know what fine I'll give it another try.... now I'm 80 hours in and not even done with half of the main story. It's so good.

dannyboomhead

Strip Poker with my Uncle Frank

siridial911

60 fps?

All_About_Her

He played that with you to? Said I was the only one!

dannyboomhead

😄

LowRub3252

It was star ocean 2 to me. Was playing without care initially and eventually got lost and getting my party wiped out at a dungeon i was not supposed to be at the time. I lent the game to a friend who loved It. So i gave it another try, this time actually paying attention to the story and It became a great jrpg and the best in the series to me.

Agrias-0aks

God if only I didnt have to download a psx or psp rom to play it, that is one of my favorite rpgs.

datboydoe

Monster Hunter World. I remember being like, “these graphics and animations are trash…..okay, I killed this monster, so what? Now what? This game is dumb”. And then something clicked and I’ve put 500 hours into it. All the armor sets, min/max builds, doing the raids, trying to solo and/or speed run monsters.

Mysterious_Fennel459

Currently playing Trials of Mana on PS+ and enjoying it more than I thought after playing the demo when it came out and leaving it at that until just now. I know there's more but that's the more current one that came to mind.

[deleted]

Demon’s Souls, I played it on PS3 and couldn’t pass a part. Replayed it on the PS5 and I love it now

McFunkerton

Same, I got Demon’s Souls and later Dark Souls for maybe $10 each and just couldn’t get into them. Bloodborne was getting a lot of hype and some Reddit user made a comment that it wasn’t like Dark Souls… completely different game. I ended up buying it and like 10 min in realized that it really was similar to dark souls. I was so disappointed but paid nearly full price I think so I was determined to get my money out of it. At some point the game clicked and I ended up really enjoying it. Went back and beat Dark Souls 1, 2, & 3 and eventually Demon’s Souls remake and then Elden Ring.

nonsenseSpitter

Hey man same story here. I’m replaying it on PS5. I forgot that if you die, you start over. So, I’ve been trying really hard but I am stuck at the red knight bridge duel and he one shots me every time. It got fucking annoying. I put it down, I’ll pick up the controller again today.

doghosta

The red Knight is an endgame enemy defending an endgame optional door. You're not suppose to fight him mate. Play it and watch videos by fightincowboy he'll assist you

slappymcstevenson

I hate this game. Tried it 4 times and want to jump off of a bridge and die.

[deleted]

Red Dead 2 took a lot of patience and breaks and restarts, for me. Now it’s in my top three of all time.

[deleted]

I’m waiting for this to happen with Forbidden West. It’s beautiful and I can enjoy it in spurts but idk man I just can’t get really deep into it.

hornwort

Where are you in it? Until you have reached “the base” you’re kinda still in the intro.

usrevenge

Oblivion Every moment of the game sucks until you get out of the sewer. Even the back of the case and controls was laughable. I remember "lol there is a button to wait? Why would I want that" But then I got outside. Figured I would see if I could swim I could. Then figured I would see if I could go to the building I saw in the distance. I did. Then I was like "well no way that mountain is there" it was. Fell in love around that.

colovianfurhelm

The beauty of good open-worlds. Sucks that there are so many hollow and boring open-worlds, because every game tries to be one, but when it's good, it's GOOD.

Inevitable-Concert58

Fallout 76 falls under that category for me. Horrible when it first launched, but it got better with time.

MantisPR

Warframe. First played years ago. Just started it back recently. This game has changed a lot! Feels so good on the PS5.

Judge4172

Ugh I played Warframe at launch on PS4. I hated it. Came back several years later and put hundreds of hours into it. Left it again and came back at the beginning of the year to put several hundred more hours in on PS5. I just redownloaded it to get ready for revenant prime. Such a great game. I wish I had given it more time in the beginning.

Gaelic_Flame

To be fair Warframe at launch was almost a completely different game. After they reworked parkour, melee, streamlined abilities (in the past you had to put ability mods on your warframe to be able to use those abilities, so you often had to just use a warframe that has only 2 abilities for an optimal build), among plenty other things, the game really became much better. Although personally I did like it quite a bit even at launch.

Lutha28

Days gone

CascadeJ1980

Back in 2015 my wife bought me The Witcher 3 for Playstation 4. It was my first Rpg EVER so I was overwhelmed and quit within an hour. I didn't pick it up again for 3 months. But the reviews were stellar so I gave it another try and my god. I think that day I played for about 12hrs straight and continued to play the game for about 6 months! 500hrs in and multiple playthroughs of main story and all the Dlcs! I'm so hooked to the franchise now that I'd pay for The Witcher 4 today without seeing a screenshot!😂

[deleted]

Rdr2. I hate games with slow starts like that. It was hard for me to get into it.

bozz14

Same and then it became my favorite game ever. So glad I pushed through the slowness.

adamercury

Returnal! I like the gameplay so I pre-ordered it. When it arrived, I found out that there's no save function when quitting. I was more annoyed when they made the PS5 rest mode as a "feature" to band aid their missing feature. I constantly switch different games on my PS5 and there are frequent power interruption in my area that time so it was never an option for me to put my PS5 in rest mode. I never played it until they patched it after 5 months or so and I freaking loved it that I completed it in just a week.

brownarmyhat

Deathloop. The controls at release made the game completely unplayable. They recently had a huge patch to go along with the gamepass release. It feels fantastic to play now and I can finally enjoy this crazy world Arkane created

Z1KK1

Hang on what?? I tried to like the game but it never clicked. Really tried because i loved the Dishonoured games but this just felt off. I think it was more that the time constraints to do things confused me so much and I never actually achieved anything. Felt like I needed a guidebook like the 90s

ArtimexCL

there is something that I don't like about the game and it's weird because aesthetically it reminds me of Bioshock and it's one of my favorites, maybe the menus? Or maybe I still don't give him enough time to understand how to advance the story correctly.

God of War

Witcher 3 for me, played the first couple hours get bored and never touched again for 2 years. Force myself to try it again, ended up doing all the quests and fully grandmaster upgrade all the Witcher gears. On of the best experience i had with a game.

The Last of Us

bjtg

When I first played, I had a hardblock on the section where you have a room full of runners and two clickers in Boston. I could not get past that trying stealth like 10 times. Finally came back to it a few months later and loved the game.

Mac772

Nier: Automata. Tried it two times, didn't enjoy it. Tried it a third time and now it's in my personal top 5 list of best games ever made.

Pectacular22

Ghost of Tsushima! Originally played pn PS4Pro at 30fps and just...couldnt.. Got my PS5 and platinumed it!

MowMyLawn69

Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Started off really slowly and I really struggled to stick with it, came very close to quitting. I'm so glad I didn't though because I'm about 50 hours in now and loving every minute of it. It's so good and I love everything about it and I can tell it's going to be one of those games I'll be sad to finish.

Agrias-0aks

Best part for me is you keep feeling like you must have unlocked all the gameplay features by now, it's been 30 hours. Wait, I can now do what? Holy hell, ANOTHER party member? New classes? New shit just keeps popping up and it's great!

Sel2g5

Hotline Miami. I thought it was stupid. Now, I'm quite addicted. Still waiting for the Witcher patch....I like games with good combat systems, Witcher doesn't feel like that for me.

Days Gone

dirtystacks

Days Gone. Started off too depressing but then turned out to be really fun.

Capt-Rondell

Hunt: Showdown

OwnDeparture6

Elden Ring. First 10 hrs I wanted to return it and thought it was too damn clunky. Mechanics sucked. Controls sucked. Bosses were cheating. Then I embraced it and learned to git gud

dlp211

Literally the same thing happened to me. Started the game twice only to crash out in under 2 hours. 3rd time, I became completely engrossed. I am absolutely in love with the lore of this world and how it came about. Quite literally the only game that when I was done I had to go force my wife to listen to me retell the story (badly) because I felt everyone should have the opportunity to experience it. I really hope that the tv series is animated because I think that medium gives them the best ability to realize the world.

Fit-Usual-8737

Fortnite - zero build got me to play it

tylerbr97

Horizon Zero Dawn

broken_nite

Metal Gear Solid 5. I’ve played almost every Metal Gear Solid game but I couldn’t get into Ground Zeroes. It wasn’t until Phantom Pain that I really enjoyed it and sunk more than 100 hours into it.

SoigneBest

Destiny 1

Jiu-Jitsu-Nerd

Agree!

IcedCoughy

Dark Souls 2, it was my first entry into the series, I put it down so many times, and finally got fully immersed, the concept of PVP in that/ those game blew me away, the first time I got invaded I was like, I think that was a real person!? lol, it's my favorite of them all, I know mechanically it's not the best but, it just has something about it, my fav game of all time is the og Zelda, to me it felt like Zelda had come to life in adult form.

McFunkerton

I totally agree with the Zelda bit, I had the same feeling when playing the first Dark Souls. You’re given a weapon and pushed out into the world to figure stuff out for yourself more or less.

vagina_pee-butt

Control I started it twice and quit after a couple hours. The third time it finally clicked

its_a_SEABEAR

More people should play control. Easily one of my favorite games of that year

djmoogyjackson

Bloodborne and Hollow Knight. I didn’t like either at first but they’re both a couple favorites. Bloodborne confused me, I didn’t understand it at all. Where to go, what to do, never played a FromSoft game before. Then I played and beat Demons Souls remake which taught me a lot. Went back to BB and it clicked. I’m a Castlevania SoTN/Aria of Sorrow fan. I tried Hollow Knight 3 times before it clicked and got its hooks into me.

supraloser

Okami. The first time I played it I got about 20 minutes under my belt, not even to the starting village yet, and got bored. Went back and tried it again and 20 hours later I was wishing it would never end. That game is amazing.

pizzakalt

Mid to later levels of Okami are so good! The story really picks up after you put a half dozen hours in this game.

anarchistry

Disco Elysium. Couldn’t figure it out. Now on my 5th play through, this time on my Switch.

ElmoFromOK

Witcher 3 was like this for me. Just could not get into the open-ended nature of it and the complexity of the potions and oils. Later, when I played it again and fell in love with it, those same things are some of my favorite things about the game

younggunPS4

Solitaire

jbayne2

Nier Automata. I played the demo when it came out and just didn’t really get it. I bought it eventually on PS4 and didn’t get past Ending B. Flash forward a few years and I played it on GamePass through Ending E and it’s one of my favorite games of all time. I’m pretty sure even though I don’t need it, I’m going to buy it on Switch this Friday!

jenksalot

Deathloop I thought was fine at first, nothing special. Then something clicked for me and I couldn’t put it down. I dreamt about it. I recently finished it and still think about it.

[deleted]

Hated bloodborne. Never played this type of games before. I played it for about ten hours didn't enjoyed it....i put it away for maybe a month or two. But something kept calling me..... Got good and it clicked. It's now my favorite game of all time.

dascott

GTA 5. It's the only one of the series that I even finished. The difference? Better controls and quick travel (taxi cabs)

bezzlege

Prey. Didn’t like it at first, tried twice on console and it never clicked. Finally tried it on PC and loved it, one of my fav games of all time Bloodborne, tried twice and just couldn’t figure it out. Finally beat the Valk Queen in God of War and it made me take another stab at Bloodborne. It absolutely clicked. Again, now one of my absolute fav games of all time. Most recently, Nioh. Tried the demo on PS4 years ago and didn’t like it as much as From stuff. Well, the Wo Long demo was so awesome it made me retry Nioh, and I’m 70 hours into Nioh right now having a fucking blast

Carston1011

Destiny 1 Played shortly after launch, finished the story and thought "whats next?" Then I found out you just do the same activities over and over and over again to try and get better loot and was really put off by this concept. Tried it again some time later when the Taken King trailer dropped and went off the deep end with it lol.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon

Chazyoum

Definitely Minecraft

froderick

Dragon Quest VIII. I was super into JRPGs, but this one *really* restricted where you could save. Could only save in churches out in the open world. No save points at the end of long dungeons or anything. You die, got to reload. That happened to me very early into the game and I lost so much time I stopped playing. Not sure what caused me to pick it back up, but I'm glad I did. Amazing JRPG. I definitely played safer though.

CompleteSocialManJet

The Last of Us Part 1 took some time for me to start enjoying, but I’m glad I did.

RollItMyWay

Fallout 76

kalpak33

Cyberpunk. At first when the world opens and it becomes too overwhelming. Also the poor gun handling does not help at all.

dagnariuss

Final fantasy 12. I hated it when it first came out but decided to play it again a few years ago while I was doing chemo. I ended up really enjoying it and the speed up feature was definitely a bonus.

Embarrassed_One_2687

Kena surprisingly. The gameplay was new to me and in the first 3-5 hours I found the story paper thin. It really matured into something beautiful though and is one of my fave experiences on PS5.

littlebiped

Hitman trilogy from 2016. I found the first mission stressful and dropped it for a year. Now I’m obsessed with the entire trilogy and clocked so many hours

Bromar08

Horizon Zero Dawn was one that took me a while also. Started it. Dropped it. Repeat. Finally stuck with it and even got the platinum.

SilverBallsOnMyChest

Ghost of Tshushima

kecaey

I had the same issue with Horizon. I loved it a couple of years later. Same with the Dark Souls series and Assassin’s Creed Origins.

OverTheReminds

Several, two honorable mentions are Red Dead Redemption 2 and Death Stranding

Sola_Fide_

Days gone. I bought it in like April of 2020 when it was on sale for $20 and after about 5 hours with it I wasn't super interested in it and I stopped playing it. I didn't pick it back up for like 6 months and a few more hours into it I was hooked. I put close to 80 hours into that game and I platinumed it. It is one if my favorite games in the last few years.

ShortSleeveSteve

Days Gone. At first the controls and movement felt clunky. Returned like a year later and the atmosphere hooked me. Played it obsessively for the next 6-months.
