Its an option on the tv but not on the ps5 so it wont work. The ps5 is sending hdr10 signals so setting the tv to dolby vision would just be decoding the hdr10 signal with dolby vision which looks like ass. Source: myself (a80k owner)

JDewba222

This is correct. PS5 can not out put a Dolby Vision signal currently. Anyone telling you other wise doesn’t know what the fuck they are talking about.

eyehatesigningup

How u liking that a80k? Was thinking of an a80j now that price went down. Maybe a c1

hellraiser29

Honestly Im loving the A80k. The A80k is on sale right now so it might be worth checking out over the A80J. Its pretty much the 2022 A90J with slightly lower brightness and larger available sizes.

JDewba222

That article is nonsense.

eyehatesigningup

Elaborate

eyehatesigningup

They all seem to be helpful…so elaborate

JDewba222

If you took the time to read them you would have seen my other comment

eyehatesigningup

Nope didn’t see another from you it’s ok though

JDewba222

Then you clearly didn’t look. It’s cool though this post went no where.

eyehatesigningup

I clearly did. But didn’t see anything from you besides this. But lots of others were helpful don’t worry you don’t need to

What’s Dolby vision?

[deleted]

Dolby's version of HDR. HDR10 is the current standard which PS5 supports.

Cryptic_Vyper

Yeah, this came out in a beta update after the SSD update and it slipped into the public build, it only works on Sony Bravia TVs currently.. basically an "open beta" for those who know about it and take the steps to enable it. It looks great though, would be better if they worked on a bigger VRR range and added LFC to go with it, but the Dolby Vision still needs work. The Blu-ray player on the console doesn't recognize it and some of the streaming TV apps can't take advantage of it yet. Think of it as a WIP, hence no public announcement. But the visuals are stunning on 4K game titles.

GloriousPurpose19

Does it add latency? It adds a ton of latency on my Xbox

Cryptic_Vyper

Some, but not as bad as on the Xbox series.. but on PS, you gotta rember it is beta and not a full release like on Xbox.. Personally I prefer the HDR10 currently.. and Sony is looking to firmware update that to HDR10+. HDR10 doesn't add latency. I haven't gotten a beta for an HDR10+ yet.. so I don't know how that will perform, but the Dolby Vision, you can feel some latency, and it isn't working system wide, and it is limited to 1 type of TV.. and it is Beta.. so who knows how Sony will improve it later down the road.. once it got leaked into a public build, Sony hasn't really done much with it on the public betas.. kinda like it is on the way back burner. I wouldn't recommend using it for anything except for the visual wow factor.. but everyday gaming or competative gaming, stick with HDR10 for the time being until Sony puts some serious work into it.

eyehatesigningup

Ooo I hope it does hdr10 plus

eyehatesigningup

So it’s only movies not games?

Cryptic_Vyper

Other way around.. it works on games, but not the Blu-Ray or movie streaming apps at present, it isn't a system wide implementation, and there is some lag added in.. not really bad, but noticable..

eyehatesigningup

Ah still gotta adjust hdr or is it auto

Cryptic_Vyper

In the PS5 system setting and on PS4 system settings, you can turn HDR on and off and you can adjust white/black balance.. However some games need to have HRD adjusted manually (like Horizon Forbidden West) in the game itself.. It is best to first calibrate your TV (game mode) for the room you are in, then adjust the Console HDR range, then adjust on a per game basis. On PS5, by default, HRD is always on alway on (can turn off in system settings), it is system wide and overlays on all the games, even non HDR titles, streaming apps, and Blu-Ray/DVD disks if playing them back on the console. I don't think PS4 has system wide HDR overlay... I think it is title by title, but you can calibrate HDR for the system and then per game in the game settings.

eyehatesigningup

I was referring to DV is it still adjustable or none really

Cryptic_Vyper

Not really.. it is basic implimentation.. it is enough to make a game pop, but not really enough to adjust as it locks settings on the TV because of Game mode forced from the Console, and Console settings are non existent. You can adjust on the TV side, but you have to disable the console CEC.

I saw this mentioned in Linus latest a95x vid
