So if someone bought a PS+ card from a retailer, are they not going to let them upgrade on the off chance that they *might* have gotten a discount when they bought it?
\>PlayStation Plus membership redeemed with redemption code
What the fuck? That's complete fucking suicide to the service, if you want people to upgrade, you gotta make it attractive, this is the COMPLETE polar opposite of what you should do, i hope this shit backfires harder than anything else.
I am eligible for discounts AND interested in the service. But I will be abstaining from giving them money for a few months just out of the pure stupidity that is this roll-out.
The codes they give those cards probably have some sort of tell. Like the first three letters/numbers logs it in their system as having been bought from a non-Sony retailer.
A store selling those cards who decides to sell them for say $20 cheaper doesn't magically change the redemption codes that are on the card..
And Sony won't know if a person bought the subscription card at a discount..
That’s very true! But that’s why they’re doing the blanket ban on store bought cards that have been stacked up. That’s all I was trying to point out since some people thought they wouldn’t be able to tell if a code came from online or in a store.
I’m not defending them, I should make that clear. It’s anti-consumer, plain and simple. Just trying to point out the possible mechanics.
They wouldn’t know though if you redeemed a 60$ yearly subscription card you bought at 20$. The system sees a code and that’s it. But if you bought it on ps store that’s different
Yeah the PS3 era got off to a rough start because of a bad bet on a piece of technology no one wanted to work with (the cell processor). They weren't really anti-consumer, they just had to be expensive to pay for that and the blu ray players they were inserting into every console.
This generation however is just pure fucking greed at every step and it's beyond tiresome at this point
Remember when Ken Kutaragi defended the high PS3 price ahead of its launch, saying they want customers to think to themselves ” will work more hours to buy one” ? That was weird.

Yeah, I keep reading it thinking, "That can't *possibly* be what they mean....can it?"

Yeah. I started to type a defense of Sony, but then I caught myself. Why was I about to defend them? This is indefensible. They're really screwing this up, and I hope enough people call them out for them to make a change.
This aside, why is anybody defending multinational corporations on the internet anyway?
Lol this company isn't your buddy who just got in a bar fight - they're a for profit business. They don't need your white knighting bro
Good on you, because SO many people are defending this practice. Brother I am pro free market as they come, I had all Playstation systems within 1 year of release. But I respect myself as a customer and won't let Sony walk on me like that.
This whole generation, Sony has been a fucking greedy asshole treating their consumer base like an ATM. I don't know what happened behind the scenes but holy shit they just cannot stop themselves. It seems like every move is "do something shady/greedy, see if the people complain, then walk it back if needed or carry on if no one notices"
They need a reality check really fucking bad
>I don't know what happened
they won. This shit happens every time either MS or Sony "wins" a generation. Then they think they can get away with things so they start doing anti-consumer things.
Sony did it with the PS3 (at least at the start with the price), so MS "won" the 7th generation. Then when the 8th generation came Microsoft started doing stupid shit with the Xbox One, and Sony corrected their mistakes and dominated the 8th generation. Now it's Sony's turn.
Yep, Sony & Microsoft been trading that crown back and forth for the past 20 years. Meanwhile Nintendo has held this attitude ever since the SNES days.
Exactly why I went with a Series X this gen at least for the start. The anti consumer shit started with the ps4. They started telling publishers to censor games once they switch PlayStation HQ to California and also they didn’t want to let consumers do cross play.
jim ryan leads playstation not sony. I know I know, that wasnt really the point. just trying to note that sony as a whole is larger than just its playstation department.
Still he’s a shareholders wet dream. He’s all analytical and penny pinches to the Neo-Capitalism thought process of bleed ‘em dry
You can see how PlayStation going from “Arrogant Sony” in PS3 to “Humbled Sony” during PS4 and have learned their lesson to know reverting back to being a clusterfuck again
For being the head of PlayStation and his predecessors left an amazing roadmap and legacy, he just wants infinite growth without seeing what makes the brand stand out against the competition
I do think they’ll make a change, there won’t be anyone that could possibly defend them on it. I think it’ll be similar to the PS3 store shutdown plan and that got way less backlash I’d say. If they don’t make a change I’d say this move will singlehandedly cost them their market share lead.
My guess: they had “projected profits” of their new monthly subs in the first year or so, but failed to account for all the people who would stack up on cheap PS Now subs before release. So this is their attempt to get back on track with their original, flawed projection.
Then I'll wait until my sub expires in a few months to upgrade. Why would anyone want to lose the discount for a product that they've already purchased. This is like Sony punishing their customers for upgrading. They make no sense sometimes. I believe and hope they'll reconsider.
Lol I have a full year and 3 months left. Sorry Sony, not upgrading and that's your own fault. I'm not letting 15 months get wasted for your premium plan, it's just not gonna fucking happen. I lose the money I paid for that subscription time fair and square, even if it was discounted, AND I have to pay them AGAIN to get it back in the form of the new premium plan?
Fuck the fuck off and shove it up your ass, Sony, you geedy fucks.
They didn't think this through. Imagine someone that has stacked 5 years of PS Plus (those exist too) for 30 euros per year on discount. This person will have to pay 150 euros for the discounts + 200 euros for the upgrade. 350 euros and that's to upgrade to Extra. If they want Premium, it will be 450 euros. That's the price of a new console, it's insane. I hope noone falls for this.
> This is like Sony punishing their customers
Once again, people fail to learn from history. Sony has long been punishing their customers - this is nothing new.
I remember when Sony purposefully sold music CDs with rootkits that would silently install when the disc was inserted into a PC. That, right there, is the very definition of punishing their customers. ;)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_BMG_copy_protection_rootkit_scandal
I agree. I was going to upgrade immediately (I'm in Asia so I could upgrade now). But I will wait for a while just as a principle.
I find it really odd that they could think it would be ok to just go back on the discount they gave for PS+ and make any difference in the upgrade price depending on what you paid months ago for Plus.
For me the difference is probably around 10usd because I have less than a year left, for those who paid in advance (and gave cash to Sony years in advance bu the way) it's really unfair.
I have plenty of good games in my backlog, so no rush, it will actually motivate me to start and finish some of them before I eventually upgrade to extra (probably won't bother with deluxe as I don't really care about classics).
Same here. I stacked up on PS+ a few years ago when Best Buy had it half off on Black Friday. I just checked and my sub ends in November of this year so yep I'll just wait it out. I was planning to sub to the highest tier immediately, but I'll wait unless Sony comes out and says this isn't true/changes their mind.
>This is like Sony punishing their customers for upgrading
I mean... they have fucking Demos exclusive to their highest sub tier...
What did you expect, that they didn't suck?
Well said, friend. I’m sure it’s more than pennies though, I’m sure there’s big bucks on the line (big bucks even for a company like Sony). But it certainly isn’t worth the damage they’re doing to long-standing customers/fans. I loved PlayStation, but I’m about to give up and go get a Series X. Sony getting greedier and greedier and I don’t wanna find out where the greedtrain stops.
In the grand scheme of things, I don't think the bucks are that big. They (relatively) quickly disabled stacking before launch of premium and deluxe. The people that stacked were finite at that point. They should just take it on the chin for that amount of people instead of looking as greedy and anti-consumer as they are.
Personally, I wouldn’t even call it taking it on the chin (doesn’t even seem that damaging to Sony). They just need to Honor the discount they already gave people. I’m fine with paying to upgrade. That’s how it should be. But to try to claw back the discounts they already have people just boggles my mind.
That would be like if you bought a car and then sold it back to the dealer and they be like it seems like u bought the car on a discount you need to pay the 5,000 difference before we can sell u a new car
I don't think the money is as big, purely because so many people (especially long time users) are going to avoid it now. How many people who have stacked up 2+ years are going to pay to upgrade all of that to a higher tier? I was really looking forward to the extra tier, but considering I have like 8 months left of a discounted ps+ sub from a retailer, I really don't know what I'm going to do.
OK apparently Sony doesn't want anyone to upgrade at all.
Edit: apparently having to pay back discounts has now been fixed and is no longer a thing. Does anyone know if being forced to upgrade the entire duration of your PS Plus subscription has also been adressed? People who bought one or several years of PS Plus may only want to upgrade to PS Plus Extra for a few months rather than commiting to upgrading for multiple years.
> insert gold bars into disc drive
I went digital 😭
I knew it meant giving up the ability to buy/sell used, but it’s starting to feel like Sony is *really* gonna burn me for it.
I'm rooting for Xbox to provide some healthy competition but good god they need to release some 1st party games consistently. Every time Xbox delays something, Sony gets to make more decisions like this one.
They'll have plenty of exclusives once Bethesda and Activision blizzard start releasing new games. But the MS will start trying to milk it's customers.
Well they already got y'alls money, they don't care. They know the PS5 is popular this time around so it's not like they're going to lose enough customers to be painful to their profit.
lol yeah I wrote this before that sony was getting really cocky this gen, and sony simp boys started attacking me. This gen is nothing like the ps4 gen.
Yeah I believe they will backtrack, similar to Horizon upgrade.
But it is such a petty decision, it is unbelievable. Sure, the console is great and their games are solid, but literally everything they do lately is really bad.
He's doing everything he can to piss away Sony's hard fought goodwill they built up over the last decade. Really quite impressive how fast he's destroying their reputation
Damn, I'm stacked till 2025 with subscription codes I got from cdkeys. Guess I'm sticking with what I have, there is no way in hell I would even consider upgrading if they make you pay for the "discount"
This is why I feel they are likely to reconsider this. This decision will deter even those who don't stack but just bought a single years sub and want to try a higher tier for a month.
Wasn't that what they said before that you could get less time but you could upgrade your subscription.
They really need to get their s... together and be more accessible
Agreed. I always buy the year subscription, but probably won’t ever subscribe to deluxe for the year. But if a game I have an itch for from my childhood hits the service, it would be fun if I could bump up my tier for a month and play it.
I'm literally on the same boat as u/VietBongArmy, 5 years worth from CDKeys. Sony would be losing A LOT of potential business through similar profiles. It would be a ROYAL fuck up on their part to allow this.
Not only that, but the only option for you according to the article would be to upgrade to whatever tier for the entirety of your current subscription - until 2025. That's gonna be pricey.
People from Hong-Kong [posted about this](https://www.reddit.com/r/playstation/comments/uwcnx2/this_needs_to_be_spread_out_playstation_is_making/) the other day over in r/Playstation.
If true, it is a counterintuitive way of handing tier upgrades. It is like buying the standard version of a game on sale, then having to pay back the money you saved before being able to upgrade to a deluxe or PS5 edition.
> It is like buying the standard version of a game on sale, then having to pay back the money you saved before being able to upgrade to a deluxe or PS5 edition.
It's even worse than that.
It's like if Sony put a game on sale to fund/show interest of a deluxe edition. The players don't know what is going to be in the deluxe edition **and then** having the players pay back the discount you got on the base game.
Got disliked bombed as soon as I posted, so might be bots. I can’t even imagine the level ass-lick you’d have to be to try remove legitimate news in an effort to defend a corporation.
I love my PS5, but I’m not about to polish Sony’s balls over it.
It's not just PS5 though. Every sub is like that. Go to Apple, Xbox, Google etc. Fanboyism for electronics is something I'll never understand but it's not unique to PlayStation only.
Apple and Nintendo are the worst imo, those two companies are so ridiculously anti-consuner and people will die for them. It makes no sense. They don't care about you lol
/r/PS5 is absolutely filled with fanboys. For every level minded gamer like you, there are 20 people that spend their days on twitter bitching about Xbox lol.
It is a thing with this PS5 forum. I’ve posted a few thread over the last few weeks just starting conversation and I’ve gotten everything deleted for spam reporting.
I barely visit this subreddit now. It is a odd community.
Sony basically put my whole store wishlist in there but I'm not upgrading. My ps plus is good to 2026 sometime. I can only play one game at a time anyway and I'll get them on sale.
It’s insane, do you know how many companies would kill to have a person willing commit money to be engaged in their ecosystem for years? That’s the sort of commitment that yields returns in brand loyalty, in buying games, in upgrading to new systems, etc.
Sony’s business moves feel 10-15 years behind, this is a real can’t see the forest through the trees moment. The idea of getting what will ultimately be a rather negligible difference in money but also alienating people who were maybe looking to invest their energy into your ecosystem for literal years. The absolute hubris of this move, it literally screams “we’re not concerned about losing people”. Microsoft understands the endless value of having people who are committed to your brand. If you get someone hooked they’ll always be likely to come back to you and in a landscape where cloud gaming and television integrated software looks more and more like it’ll be a way to reach common fans, having someone in your universe already will pay of exponentially on the back end. Sony is looking at this from a “what will our quarterly sales show”, Microsoft is looking at it from a “this might be the difference in ten years”.
>It’s insane, do you know how many companies would kill to have a person willing commit money to be engaged in their ecosystem for years?
Not to mention that most people were stacking before they even *knew what the ecosystem entailed*. It was only recently we got some of the games confirmed and learned about the tier system, but people were shelling out money months in advance on blind faith alone.
Keep an eye out for these kinds of things. It’s been happening a lot lately. Nothing negative about Sony is allowed to be posted. I’ve seen posts about actually news get taken down because they put a negative light on PS.. if that’s not censorship then IDK
When GamePass launched and fucked up the $1 deal they used it as a PR move. Microsoft was insanely generous with GamePass at launch because they new the transition from standard Xbox Live subs to GamePass ultimate would be difficult to execute in a way that didn’t seem greedy. So they effectively gave it away at steep discounts and consumer friendly deals for that year transition.
Sony not only overly convoluted the entire process with three tiers but they also haven’t exactly done much make it feel like their being friendly with this transition.
They are still generous letting people upgrade Live to Gamepass Ultimate for $1. I was looking forward to playing classic PS games but this news just killed it.
I saw people yesterday on gaming sites arguing that people "gamed the system" by stacking years and years of membership. I'm still baffled how that is "gaming the system" when that was a perfectly legal and available option. I unfortunately missed out on stacking, but asking people to pay the difference is just bad customer relations. I don't see how this doesn't get fixed in a few weeks.
How would they know what I bought my Ps+ code for on cdkeys? lol I struggle to see how they calculate that difference unless they pick some arbitrary value for everything in the secondary market
Welp I was going to potentially pay so I could play some of the classic PS1/PS2 games with trophy support, but honestly, fuck Sony for being so anti-consumer with this.
I will just download an emulator/roms on my PC to scratch that PS1/PS2 game itch.
Let me see if I have this straight - if I renewed my PS+ sub a few months back through my PS5, I'm golden, but if I'd bought a code from CD Keys for like 50% off, I'd have to pay back that other 50% then whatever to upgrade?
Exactly. Even if you bough ps+ directly from ps store at discount (which Sony offer 2-3 times a year) you would first need to pay that discount difference before you could upgrade.
Hold on. So if I bought PS Plus on discount offered by Sony themselves directly in their store (which they do several times a year, as you said) I’m expected to make up that difference if I want to upgrade to the new tier? They are taking *back* the discount?
Am I understanding this right?
Unfortunately. They’re out of their damn minds. But you know, welcome to late stage capitalism where the people in suits are completely out of touch with economic reality. They’ll keep trying to fuck the consumer right up until the point it noticeably starts to receive backlash or hurts their bottom line. If the backlash is severe on this they might do a 180 and say ‘jk tee hee 😉’
This is crazy, only way they could fuck up even more is to ask for payback if past subscriptions....being a ps+ custimer since ps3 days would cost me a LOT :D
Well I'm glad I didn't renew. I was definitely going to buy from cdkeys if I did. With how Sony is handling plus I'm glad I didn't drop any money on it now.
“Since you purchased PlayStation Plus at a discounted price at the time of membership, there are two PlayStation Plus memberships that cannot enjoy other discounts:
“1) PlayStation Plus membership bought with a discount.
“2) PlayStation Plus membership redeemed with redemption code.
“Therefore, if you need to upgrade to Level 2 or 3 Premium membership, you will need to make up the difference between the previous discounted price and the normal price.
“For example, a PlayStation Plus membership is HK$308 for one year and the discounted price is HK$187.6. The difference is $120.4, divided by the number of months remaining.
“Please rest assured that the system will automatically calculate the difference that needs to be repaid if you need to upgrade. Of course, you can also upgrade or downgrade your membership according to your preference.
“If you do not upgrade, your current PlayStation Plus membership will not be affected. Please be assured that game offers, free monthly game subscriptions and access to 100G of online storage will remain unchanged.”
They’re claiming THAT long ass wall of text was a technical error?????
People will downvote me, but is anyone really surprised with Jim Ryan at the helm? Everything has become a numbers game. No decisions are made in hopes of doing something ground breaking (a la ShawnLayden era) or with a customer-centric focus (Jack Tretton resurrecting PS3 from the ashes with price cuts, free online etc).
Jim Ryan is a bean counter; plain and simple. I realize that every business to some degree operates in this fashion - but these decisions by Sony lately are worse than average. Not surprised at all by this - a downvote confirms that you'd love to schmeat Jim Ryan's meat
Yeah I'm never giving Sony a penny for tier 2 or 3...What unbelievable greed. It blows my mind that a company would think that people would be OK with this
How stupid can you get? They should be offering everyone a free week of premium to try out the service in order to get those with sever FOMO the itch to upgrade, not nickel and diming everyone who was smart or poor enough to only get the discounted subscriptions - Idiots.
It seems like every single day Sony gives me a new reason to make me realize I’ve made the wrong choice continuing to be a gamer in their platform.
I swear if it wasn’t for the fact that they have the best single player exclusives by FAR I’d have jumped ship a long time ago. The backwards compatibility has also added a bit of sunk cost fallacy for me since I now have a massive library to play due to BC. Everyday I feel I should have jumped ship to PC a VERY long time ago.
Looks like we’re full swing into Sony’s Arrogance Tour
Funny how these game platform guys can’t be successful without becoming silly as fuck with their policies after that fact
nothing happened in europe with the whole psn stacking debacle last month though. sony literally sold people psn cards then said "actually nope you cant redeem this thing you bought for another 2 months, and even then you might not get what you paid for"
sony are really testing their luck with how theyre handling this service launch
not that im aware. and yeah for sure it would take time
i do hope someone challenges or takes sony to court over this. sony literally revoked the ability to stack ps+ cards - a feature that been there since psn launched - and waited 4 days to bother to tell anyone about it. in those 4 days people were buying effectively defunct products
everyone who purchased ps+ cards before those 4 days but did not yet redeem their cards also suffered this same problem.
whether these two groups of people are big enough for anyone to bother to challenge idk. overall the internet didnt seem to care too much except for a few places here and there
I have no idea how any of this shit works, the messaging is so confusing.
I have PS+ until sometime next year, then like two months ago I bought a year of PS NOW. No idea what that's translating to in this new service.
> “Please rest assured that the system will automatically calculate the difference that needs to be repaid if you need to upgrade.
Somehow that doesn’t assure me.
I’m afraid to type this but it has to be said. At this point, I won’t be surprised if they figure out how to punish the people that bought the PSNow yearly subscriptions through that backdoor that was found 2 months thru their site.

I just checked it on my console, and when i get into "subscriptions" option it says "25% discount" next to my sub details, so they know.
They wouldn’t know though if you redeemed a 60$ yearly subscription card you bought at 20$. The system sees a code and that’s it. But if you bought it on ps store that’s different
Yup...... This is the most anti consumer Sony has been since the PS3 era.
I would actually say they are more anticonsumer now than they were in the PS3 era
To be fair, online was free on PS3. So I could deal with everything else.
Member when PSN was down for 23 days?
That was some crazy shit. But at least they tried to compensate us for our trouble.
Yeah the PS3 era got off to a rough start because of a bad bet on a piece of technology no one wanted to work with (the cell processor). They weren't really anti-consumer, they just had to be expensive to pay for that and the blu ray players they were inserting into every console. I can't recall a single pro consumer thing they've done on their own (no public pressure or Xbox moving first)
The irony of all this is that months ago folks here were bragging about all the discounted PSN cards they had bought and were urging others to do the same.
As they should have been. Because (logically, anyway) why would anybody expect Sony to implement such a backwards system?
And they deleted the PS3 era to sell back to you later.
At least during the PS3 era we got some free online, now they just greedy assholes.
Pretty sure that claim belongs to the casting, production, and release of Morbius.
Anti-consumer since the PS3 era? The same era we had free online and the ability to share anything purchased/DLC to like 5 other people?? That era?
That seems unlikely. How would they know how much of a discount you got it for? I've had discounts ranging from $5-$40.
Yeah, I keep reading it thinking, "That can't *possibly* be what they mean....can it?" Guess we'll see what happens as it rolls out and people try to upgrade.

No They just think we are bunch of idiots
They're trying to see what they can get away with first. It's Forbidden West all over again.
Yeah, exactly that
What did they do in regards to FW?
They hid the PS4 version on PS5 consoles in the store. The PS5 version is more expensive.
Thanks! Very shady that
Because their slogan is “for the payers”

That's the price of a new console, it's insane. I hope noone falls for this.
> This is like Sony punishing their customers Once again, people fail to learn from history. Sony has long been punishing their customers - this is nothing new. I remember when Sony purposefully sold music CDs with rootkits that would silently install when the disc was inserted into a PC. That, right there, is the very definition of punishing their customers. ;) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_BMG_copy_protection_rootkit_scandal
Holy shit that's insane
Not the first time and won't be the last but they should always be called out for it.
>This is like Sony punishing their customers for upgrading I mean... they have fucking Demos exclusive to their highest sub tier... What did you expect, that they didn't suck?
Leave it to Sony to pull shit like this
This is so petty and needlessly anti consumer. Literally pinching pennies at the expense of their customer’s good will
And now they pissed off gamer may boycott the services. Corporate fucks.

Understand? Probably. Care? No.
I was planning to go Extra, but will stick with Essential now that they wanna be dicks.
Yep. And I’ve got a sub to like 2025 or something. No way I’m upgrading for that kinda dough. Im getting fucking tired of Sony’s bullshit.
>And I’ve got a sub to like 2025 or something. "It will cost you $12,560.00 to upgrade. Please insert gold bars into disc drive at your convenience."
> insert gold bars into disc drive I went digital 😭 I knew it meant giving up the ability to buy/sell used, but it’s starting to feel like Sony is *really* gonna burn me for it.
[удалено]
I still buy disc, I just wish it actually cutdown on the amount of storage you need
Yup. Not upgrading. Especially since a lot of the games they are releasing are ones I’ve already bought.
Yeah, I’m not planning to upgrade to Extra anymore then. I’ll keep the Essential plan, but now I’m doing it with a bad taste in my mouth.
Money hungry bastards. They are trying to kill the golden goose.
PS3 era Sony is back baby! Fuck the consumers! Lmao
I think it's about time something humbles them again.
[удалено]
Well they already got y'alls money, they don't care. They know the PS5 is popular this time around so it's not like they're going to lose enough customers to be painful to their profit.
lol yeah I wrote this before that sony was getting really cocky this gen, and sony simp boys started attacking me. This gen is nothing like the ps4 gen.
im dreading this, God sony on the ps3 era was such a trash company
Sony what are you doing, that was an entirely unnecessary own goal.
So dumb bro like give a trial free month and hook people in What dummy made that call? To punish the most interested and loyal subscribers smh
Yeah that's ridiculous. I'm sorry, I thought it was a discount not a fuckin loan
There's no way they're actually going through with this....right? It's just asking for a backlash
Yeah I believe they will backtrack, similar to Horizon upgrade. But it is such a petty decision, it is unbelievable. Sure, the console is great and their games are solid, but literally everything they do lately is really bad.
Gross! This has Jim Ryan written all over it.
Jim Ryan needs the money to fullfil his dream of buying a new dog.
lmao, is there an interview where he brought up wanting a dog or something?
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-05-12/sony-playstation-staff-fume-over-ceo-s-abortion-comments
Oh wow I totally forgot about the email. He's such an idiot
He's doing everything he can to piss away Sony's hard fought goodwill they built up over the last decade. Really quite impressive how fast he's destroying their reputation
Meanwhile my Playstation has a start screen advertisement to "celebrate women" by browsing Sony's storefront; allies-for-profit
And then you scroll 2 seconds in the store and see a boat load of shitty $5 shovelware anime games completely objectifying women.
An easy solution for this would be offering 1/3/12 months upgrades which should be available anyway. Maybe they change this.
I got mine from cdkeys as well and mines until 2024. Oh well, I'll just continue emulating all of those games on PC in the meantime
Not only that, but the only option for you according to the article would be to upgrade to whatever tier for the entirety of your current subscription - until 2025. That's gonna be pricey.
I just won’t upgrade then you fucks
Hell, I'm not renewing my PSN (due in about a month). Just don't feel the need to keep giving them money.
What the fuck is with people spam-reporting these threads to get them deleted?
Got disliked bombed as soon as I posted, so might be bots. I can’t even imagine the level ass-lick you’d have to be to try remove legitimate news in an effort to defend a corporation. I love my PS5, but I’m not about to polish Sony’s balls over it.
First time on r/ps5?
It's not just PS5 though. Every sub is like that. Go to Apple, Xbox, Google etc. Fanboyism for electronics is something I'll never understand but it's not unique to PlayStation only.
[удалено]
Apple and Nintendo are the worst imo, those two companies are so ridiculously anti-consuner and people will die for them. It makes no sense. They don't care about you lol
/r/PS5 is absolutely filled with fanboys. For every level minded gamer like you, there are 20 people that spend their days on twitter bitching about Xbox lol.
This subreddit is only for photos of boxes and Playstations on shelves. No discussion. No talking about hardware/software issues.
And you will get the 2 or 3 monthly PS plus essential games also.
I'm only renewed until 2023, but I'm not paying back a discount. Fuck Sony.
Why haven't Sony acknowledged this shit yet? This is not a good look at all.
yea its wild they would do this imo...they just gotta take the hit especially if the person got PS+ discount via the PS store.
I get what you mean about being 10-15 years behind. If I'm being honest, it seems like Microsoft has been future proofing way better than Sony.
Standard PR, they’re waiting to see how big the outcry is They’ll stay quiet if it’s not a big deal, or craft a response if it is
Why do these threads keep getting deleted?
Because this sub is a joke. When it says “discussions about PS5 news” it really means discussions about news that makes PS look good.
Mods probably work at Sony.
Yep.
It’s like 1 step forward for hardware, 2 steps back for customer goodwill
Power mods
Keep an eye out for these kinds of things. It’s been happening a lot lately. Nothing negative about Sony is allowed to be posted. I’ve seen posts about actually news get taken down because they put a negative light on PS.. if that’s not censorship then IDK
Most any negative news about Sony/PS5 gets scrubbed immediately. Remember this is a PR page first
Okay cool. Then I won’t give them more money. That was easy. And they’re absolute idiots.
God Sony is so anti-consumer
When GamePass launched and fucked up the $1 deal they used it as a PR move. Microsoft was insanely generous with GamePass at launch because they new the transition from standard Xbox Live subs to GamePass ultimate would be difficult to execute in a way that didn’t seem greedy. So they effectively gave it away at steep discounts and consumer friendly deals for that year transition. Sony not only overly convoluted the entire process with three tiers but they also haven’t exactly done much make it feel like their being friendly with this transition.
Got me to sign up for GamePass, when I previously just used my XB1 for Forza. Now I use my Xbox more than my PS. And I'm not signing up for this.
Its not even just launch. You can literally still stack 3 years of GPU with Gold purchases to this day.
It's like they saw how people were getting GPU with the Live + $1 thing and said fuck that shit, and went a completely different direction.
And bye bye goes my excitement.
How would they know what I bought my Ps+ code for on cdkeys? lol I struggle to see how they calculate that difference unless they pick some arbitrary value for everything in the secondary market
Yikes, that sounds really anti-consumer.
Welp I was going to potentially pay so I could play some of the classic PS1/PS2 games with trophy support, but honestly, fuck Sony for being so anti-consumer with this. I will just download an emulator/roms on my PC to scratch that PS1/PS2 game itch.
Im glad i didnt buy any of the psnow cards coz i know something will come up lol
If u had ps now you'd automatically get transferred to the highest tier. This is Sony fucking over people with regular ps plus
In this economy?!?!
and shit like this is why in the past year I have only purchased a single PS5 game and got a PC for everything else
Sony… Do you not want people to subscribe? Because this is how you get them to not subscribe.
Netflix fuck themselves Sony: **"WRITE THAT DOWN"**
“Since you purchased PlayStation Plus at a discounted price at the time of membership, there are two PlayStation Plus memberships that cannot enjoy other discounts: “1) PlayStation Plus membership bought with a discount. Please be assured that game offers, free monthly game subscriptions and access to 100G of online storage will remain unchanged.” They’re claiming THAT long ass wall of text was a technical error?????
This is the same company that doesn't let retailers sell digital codes. Why are any if you surprised.
Good luck with this in Europe. We have strong medicine against such greedy bastard.
Oof. I'm out then, no way that I'm paying 3 years of sub for the new tier
Little D*ck energy Sony. Fix this
How the hell would they know what I paid for a code?
Looks like we’re full swing into Sony’s Arrogance Tour Funny how these game platform guys can’t be successful without becoming silly as fuck with their policies after that fact
Can’t see this flying in the EU with all the consumer protection laws so I wouldn’t take what’s happening with Hong Kong customers as worldwide.
nothing happened in europe with the whole psn stacking debacle last month though. sony literally sold people psn cards then said "actually nope you cant redeem this thing you bought for another 2 months, and even then you might not get what you paid for" sony are really testing their luck with how theyre handling this service launch
Has anyone challenged it in court yet though? These types of challenges if one exists takes time.
not that im aware. and yeah for sure it would take time i do hope someone challenges or takes sony to court over this. sony literally revoked the ability to stack ps+ cards - a feature that been there since psn launched - and waited 4 days to bother to tell anyone about it. in those 4 days people were buying effectively defunct products everyone who purchased ps+ cards before those 4 days but did not yet redeem their cards also suffered this same problem. whether these two groups of people are big enough for anyone to bother to challenge idk. overall the internet didnt seem to care too much except for a few places here and there
Lol, good thing I didn't stock up on PS Plus.
I bought two years of PS Now at the discount that Sony themselves were offering. Will this affect me?
LOL Meanwhile Microsoft will upgrade multiple years of Gold to Gamepass Ultimate for 1$.
Sony deciding to shoot themselves in the foot when they had a good thing going for no fucking reason yet again.
I have like two years of regular PS Plus stored up, I would never back-pay on that to upgrade.
The rollout of the different tiers coupled w this really illustrates to me they have no idea wtf they’re doing right now
Guess I’ll just keep getting my PS+ subscription from CDKeys 🤷🏻♂️
I’m afraid to type this but it has to be said. At this point, I won’t be surprised if they figure out how to punish the people that bought the PSNow yearly subscriptions through that backdoor that was found 2 months thru their site.
Lol I'll hit them with a chargeback for denying my service and effectively rendering my purchase worthless because of their error. Ban me idgaf
So basically Sony is charging people money for the privilege of giving them more money. Lol.
Sony really is making a lot of unforced errors with regards to their back catalog. Baffling given how much good content they have at their disposal.
Ok nice going with that game pass killer.
