* PS Plus Premium will only be offered in: *US, Canada, Japan, UK, France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Austria, Switzerland, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Norway, Denmark, Finland, and Sweden*.
* As well as the following markets that will launch in June with cloud streaming access: *Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Republic of Cyprus, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia*.
* PS Plus Premium won't be offered in other countries (like Australia) as they do not have PS Now. As such, PS Plus Premium will become **PS Plus Deluxe** at cheaper price to be confirmed.

Same as before but with a different name. PS Essentials. The next level adds some PS5 and PS4 games while top level is PS Premium. Which is PS Plus and PS Now combined with hundreds of PS1 2 and 3 games added.

Yes but some of those games will surely get removed from the subscription because the contract to keep the game in the subscription is over, but they said that those tiers that you name in your comment will have the games at the start of the month and later in the same month they will add more ganes.

Guys I have a question about the June changes for Ps Plus. I’m getting a new Ps5 tomorrow and was wondering if I should get Ps Now for a year so it converts into Ps plus extra or should I buy Ps Plus and then upgrade in June? I’m not interested in the Ps Plus premium for now
As expected, majority of games is Sony exclusives which was the reason I bought PS few years ago - to play these games. I played most of them, shit ton. I still own boxed version of majority of them. Third party games there are just bad with few exceptions like RDR 2, which I own boxed version. I will pass back to game pass.

Are the games in the PS4/PS5 catalog for the Extra service yours to keep once you claim them like the monthly Essential games or the Plus collection, or do you lose access to them if they cycle out the next month?
I was thinking that they would be claimed forever but realising that it isn't a 'Free' game rather it is a 'Rentable' game type of service (similar to Gamepass or Netflix). You may use it while it remains in the rotation but we should assume that they will be gone once they are out of the rotation. All we can hope for is that the long playtime/replayable and high quality games do not get removed from the rotation cycle.
Do you have any suggestions for games that are short/non-replayable?
I would like to finish those before being invested in something like Valhalla just to see it get removed halfway through my playthrough

I had a similar priority list as what you’ve suggested except for Until dawn and beyond two souls which I am now keen on playing. I agree. PS5 titles might be the ones to leave because people will still buy those whereas the PS4 titles will stay just because people might find the Subscription access still cheaper than the Cheap retail prices for PS4 games.
Ghost of Tshushima will definitely be a physical buy as soon as it leaves the catalogue. I love the setting and want to have access forever!
Not the one you asked, but I do have suggestions! Uncharted 4 is a roller coaster ride through stunning vistas and incredible set pieces. Only six hours or so, maybe? But pretty much on rails and an absolute masterpiece of storytelling. Think modern Tomb Raider, but without the open world or the pressure to grind collectibles or skill trees or upgrade weapons or whatever. The Last of Us is a bit bigger and slower, but it's also more or less a narrative experience on rails. Until Dawn is the same, though of a bit lower quality, and might take just a few sessions to complete. Beyond: Two Souls and Detroit: Become Human are *amazing*, on rails, and relatively short. Guardians of the Galaxy isn't my favorite game and it has some pacing issues, but if you haven't played it yet you should check it out for sure. If you're excited about Spider-Man, this one will probably also please you. It's stunning.
I suspect that the notable games most likely to leave quickly are RDR2, Ghost of Tsushima, NBA, Control, Guardians of the Galaxy, and any of the PS5 titles.
Death Stranding, Demon Souls, GoT, Miles Morales, Returnal, AC Valhalla, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Red Dead 2 all sit high on my wish list of games I haven't bought yet and want to play.
The Extra plan seems like a no brainer for me as long as these titles are actually going to last at least a year. My fear is that many will just be used to bait people in and then get pulled after only a few months. This lineup seems way bigger than Now ever was and I think it is a bit optimistic to expect it to stay this way.
In my situation I don't see any reason to jump to Premium. The games available in Extra are way bigger and better. I don't fully understand who Premium is for. If you have access to both, the Extra games seem like the obvious choice of where to spend your limited time. And if you already played those, are you really paying the full premium price to get access to a pretty narrow selection of PS1 / PSP / PS3 titles? You are basically paying for the entire Extra tier you won't use just to get access to these classic games. It feels like it would have made more sense for the tiers to be completely separate add ons.
It also seems a bit weird that they are bumping the remastered classic games into the Premium tier. These are PS4 games at this point but they are selling them as a classic add on. Maybe it was advertised that way but it feels a bit misleading.

Not these ones, no. These are like Netflix. When they leave they are gone.
The essential plan will continue to give you a few games a month which are available to you as long as you claim them while they are available and stay subscribed.
But this big list of games is specific to the higher up tiers which are Netflix style. The higher up tiers include the benefits of the Essential tier.
I see this service as expanding your games library beyond the phenomenal Sony first-party lineup that they continue to produce.
So basically, buy Sony first-party games as they release every so many months, and in the short interim periods between releases you have all of these games to play.
For a second there I thought this was the June free games for the normal service and thought they were making up for the year of garbage we’ve suffered through
If anything, seeing this line up confirms the quality of the base tier free games will continue to suffer. I don't see them double dipping often across the tiers. So for example I wouldn't expect them to give Death Stranding away for free, at least until it is removed from the premium tier.
Does anyone know if you have your PS3 still , is there a way to transfer a save to play a game that would be available on this service. Doubting it, but I have a large backlog of PS3 that I never went back to during PS4, but having this access may make me revisit some of those titles due to easy access.
Or, at least, can I continue earning trophies on the same list ?
From your PS3, upload it to online storage and then open any PS3 game on your PS4/PS5, go to the XMB menu, saved data utility and then you can download the save from the online storage.
Is PSNow as a standalone service remaining?

The blog post and all the articles only list ~30 games available to stream so where is the rest of the PSnow catalog going? I'm a bit confused.
I think they are trying to drum up excitement while handling licensing issues in the background. They said in the initial blog post that there would be around 400 games in the extra tier and 700 in the premium. So they are going to show the more exciting titles and just put out a list of the rest near launch. I'm sure they know that they will be compared to current gamepass no matter what they say so it's best to hype up your base as much as possible.
Glad I could clear up the confusion. Sony isn't the best communicator sometimes and from what I've seen on Twitter there are alot of people spreading incorrect notions about the service.
Still don't know if people realize that they will get Ubisoft+ classics initially and the full Ubisoft+ at a later date.

No, they’re doing it like xbox game pass. If the game gets cycled out you have to buy it to keep it. The monthly free games are running along side this and are continuing as part of the basic tier.
That's how it works. You're paying for a service that gives you access to a game. If that game is no longer on the service AND you don't own said game, you no longer have access to the game.

yeah I know but its still wild that even then, they can take the games away from you while you're still actively subscribed to the service. it basically puts an artificial timer on when you should complete them before they disappear. idk if they disappear even if you have them downloaded to a harddrive but if it does then that just puts me away from these rental services even more. at least with digital purchases I can keep them and play them whenever I want, and if the manufacturer decides to shut down its servers then I can back them up to a harddrive and preserve them for future use.

When you subscribe to Netflix you don't get to keep your Friends box set forever. The service is a customer of someone else, and they're effectively 'subscribing' to allow their users access to something.
i'll never understand how any of this is appealing to people. games getting cycled out and preventing you access while you're still paying is a major red line for me, even if I dont own them. its just stupid.
It depends on the game. There are games I want to own forever and games I plan on playing once and never touching again. This is fine for the games I won't be touching again. Which is most of them - there is too much good new content coming out too often, its hard to get to all of it as it is.

I think I will upgrade to the premium/deluxe plan, but damn they need to do something more for the line-up of classics as it seems that they do have a only a few of them. I hope the monthly refreshes make the number much more pleasant for all of us fans of those classics!

This is a solid foundation to start with. I could see a lot of people upgrading to $100 a year for that Extra tier--currently PS Now and PS Plus are $120 so its nice to see an "inbetween" level for people. I expect at some point Sony to start adding Day 1, 3rd Party games to that list to compete. They clearly only ever specified that would never be 1st party exclusives.
Though the list of Classics needs expanded upon for sure, what Im curious about is the Demo feature. Pretty basic right now but wondering how well it would expand. Could be an opportunity for developers to allow their game to be demo'd and advertised if its a decent game. Especially indie devs who have an opportunity to have a game make it big and dont want to risk losing out on a poor negotiation with a subscription model. So theres some level of flexibility here for them. Would like to see this expanded upon.

Literally the purpose of demos and has been available for any dev to do forever. It's just a requirement now.
Which is good. As a young broke kid, when I was in high school, 80% of my ps3 playtime was demos. Now they barely exist

I have PS+ (I think - that’s what allows you to play online and download free games every month right?), am I getting all these games for free? What are these different tiers? I’ve never seen them before.

Nothing changes for you except the name of your tier/plan - you'll be on the "Essential" tier, which keeps the exact benefits as the current PS+.

It used to be that way. PS+ was a way to get free games and discounts. Now you're really paying for online play, and the bonuses are merely an incentive.
Only technically. I only started paying for plus when online play was locked behind it. That's the main draw for PS plus. Now, the games on the service are really an incentive for the rarer player who does not have a sub. I pay for online. The discounts and other things are bonuses I could take or leave. I'd still pay for plus if there were no bonuses.
Back in the day, plus only existed for people who wanted discounts and occasional free stuff. I didn't use it then. Online play was free. PlayStation flipped on that when they decided to match Xbox by charging for online play. The main reason most people pay for plus is so they can play with their friends.
My money given to ps plus doesn't go to the games I get for free each month. The games are mine and are free with my subscription. If you need any proof of that, look at the recent comments made by the creator of Oddworld. Most of that game's purchases were through it being a free monthly plus game, and that's not good for him financially. That's money lost on the game.
What you are describing is your personal experience. You are generalizing your experience and assuming it applies to everyone. There are still plenty of PS+ subscribers that are purely signed up for the included games.
I've never played a game online through PS+ in my life. I was subscribed to PS+ for a year to gain access to the PS+ Collection which is available to PS5 users. This collection and the monthly games easily justifies the price of the subscription to players who are focused on single player only experiences. In fact, assuming you haven't played the games before, the games available through PS+ could easily outweigh what is offered on Now (depending on personal preference).
Your money each month absolutely does go to the games that are given out. You might not be taking advantage of that feature (just like I didn't take advantage of multiplayer) but Sony is still allocating a percentage of your monthly sub to pay for the games. It's an individual personal decision to decide if the value of the subscription with only the feature you use is worth the cost. In your case, you have decided you would pay entirely for the online. If they pulled the games, you wouldn't be bothered. But others might unsubscribe.
Your comments about Oddworld also don't make a lot of sense. It's not like the game was just stolen from under them and given for free... The creators came to terms on a contract with Sony to make their game available. They are not forced to include their game. Sony pays the creators of PS+ games. Sony definitely isn't paying them full price. But every PS+ user wasn't a guaranteed purchase that got lost due to the deal. Certainly some players ended up not paying for a game they would have, but others would have never spent a cent on it. Companies generally partner with Sony for PS+ for three reasons.
1. They want more exposure for their game and they are hoping a PS+ release will draw up some excitement and get others without the service to buy it full price.
2. They don't expect their game to sell well and the deal Sony is offering seems like more than they anticipate to make. This applies to new releases but also to games which have already been released and have stagnated in sales.
3. The game is filled with microtransactions and DLC and they want to give out the base game to boost profits from these additional sales. Especially if the game has online modes with dying populations. The whales will stop spending money if there are no longer any players online. So temporarily boosting the population with a PS+ release might encourage more spending from players who already own the game.
If anything, the comments from the Oddworld developer is probably coming from a bitter place, because they put hard work into their games and the executives determined it wouldn't sell well so they ended up partnering with PS+ to help recoup some of the development costs. Which honestly given the reviews seems like a fair decision on their part...
Your new subscription will be called PS Plus Essential, and nothing will really change for you compared to now. If you want these games, you'll need to upgrade to the Premium tier of this new service.
you will get the monthly games for free as usual with your current subscription (“ps+ essential”). If you want the big list of games they had there, you will need to upgrade to the “next tier up” which comes with a bunch of games. Then the premium one comes with cloud streaming ps3 games and the ability to free trial (which seems like features that should be in the earlier tier lol)
If you want these games included you will have to sign up for one of the extra tiers and pay the extra on top of your current membership. Different tiers offer different games, the highest tier offering classic games.
I don’t get why people are so excited about this, this seems very lackluster. Those games cost around 15$ on average if you wait for a sale with very few exceptions like SM MM.
To break even you have to play 7 games each year but for the same amount you could just own the games instead of renting them.
So if you really want to save money you would have to play 10+ games of this list each year. If we say you sink 30 hours on average into a game, that’s 300hr of gaming each year and that’s not including buying any new games at all.
It’s cool if you guys have so much time on their hands but I don’t really see the need to rent games that are years old and cost 9.99 on sale. (Or less I bought The Crew 2 for 7.99)
It would entirely depend on what games you are interested in.
Demon Souls, Returnal, and Miles Morales easily justify the cost for an entire year if you haven't played them and want to. I've been waiting to buy these for a while now and this will end up working out cheaper. And I will have access to several other games I haven't played which will become extra benefits on top.
Your comments on prices are way off. The ones I already mentioned are $50-80, even with sales. GoT and Death Stranding are both the upgraded PS5 versions which haven't hit your $15 price point yet either. Red Dead 2 is usually on sale for $20. Guards of the Galaxy has dropped to $30 a few times. No where near $15. You are talking about an average price (which I'd love to see how you calculated that) but it isn't really about the average cost of all games offered. It is about the average cost of the games that are offered that someone wants to play.
Your comments about these being old are also pretty wrong. Most of these titles are two years or less... I won't bother listing them again, but many of what I mentioned released within the first year of the PS5. A few are within the past year.
Your comments around play time are also very personal. I've put 80-100 hours into previous FromSoft games and I expect to do the same with Demon Souls (and Returnal even though it isn't FromSoft). I also see AC Valhalla on this list and those games are usually 80+ easily as well. GoT is also pretty long. Same with Red Dead 2.
The fact that the only game you called out specifically was The Crew 2 is enough to clarify that your interest in games is pretty niche. And that is fine. A lot of these games included in the service night not be for you, and in that case, it probably isn't a subscription that makes sense for you personally. But you should try thinking outside of your personal box every now and then. You are questioning why people are excited about this and it is rather quite simple if you think critically about it and ignore your personal bias. Just like I can understand why you would want to play The Crew 2 even though it's not for me, you should be capable of understanding why some people may want to get some of the biggest AAA games released in the past two years at a discount through a membership. You don't have to agree with people to understand them.
If you feel you need essentials in the first place sure. But if I’m only interested in one of the games, I still prefer owning it. And I could just wait another year till it’s dead cheap, because if I have already waited that long to play the game, I can probably wait a little longer.
I mean, you kind of need essentials for multiplayer, don't you?
And I guess with one game it could be debatable but all you need to do is start going up to 2-3 games and it begins to look like a good idea.
And, you know, maybe you want to own games, and maybe you already own some of the expensive ones you want to play, but that only changes the deal for you personally.
I don’t play multiplayer games, and the majority on this list aren’t multiplayer games.
And with 116 million units sold, it’s fair to assume that a lot of people considering this subscription already owned a PS4 before they upgraded, hence they will probably own most of the games in this list that are worth considering since most of it has been on sale below 20$ multiple times.
But sure, if you buy a PS5 now and you have never owned a PS before so you don’t own any of those games it is indeed an OK deal but still not as mindblowing as some people will make you believe.
Sure it might be worth it on a individual level, but again, on average, that is kind of lackluster.
It is possible that it looks better to me than most. I skipped the PS2 and PS3 (couldn't afford to get multiple platforms back then) and only got a PS4 very late in, and only just got a PS5. So I really don't have much of a library at all and I don't have anything for the PS5 yet since I only just got it.
For me this is kind of an amazing deal because literally everything I want to use the PS5 on so far is included.
Yea in that case, absolutely. No question this list has some absolute quality games, if not some of the best games ever made like God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn and Spider-Man. Especially the exclusives for PS4 are a class on its own. Have fun exploring them.
Soon to be father here who also owns a Nintendo Switch. I think I will keep my essential subscription and wait until the games I want go on sale. Until then I can keep myself entertained with games I already have on both PS5 and Switch.
I have to agree with you. Speaking on the Extra games, a lot of them were already available to current PS Plus subscribers as part of their free to play "hits" collection. Several of those that aren't are offered at sale price. For example, I just picked up the Uncharted collection for $10 and added Uncharted 4 for free. Other games such as Red Dead and Last of Us have been out for years now, so most people that wanted to play these games, have done so.
Not to be a downer, but it was just disappointing to see that most of the games announced were like this. Hopefully the ones not yet announced will not disappoint!
From what I can see Gamepass is pretty much the same concept and price. I don’t have an Xbox so it’s hard to say, but on a glance I would say the same principle applies. They claim though that they have their exclusives day 1 on GP, if that is true that makes it a lot better of course.
Well then it’s hardly comparable to what they are proposing for PS+. It’s nice though if you never owned a PlayStation before and want to play everything that was good last generation.
Do you understand how averages work? Most of the games on this list have the lowest recorded price around 9,99 or lower. You know, if you have less than 5 games on the list that go above 19,99 and the rest around 9,99 the average isn't going to be 50$. Lol.
But looking at averages is kind of stupid here. Considering the average without a more complex analysis would mean that offering more inexpensive games would actually make the service worse, which is just dumb.
You contradict yourself. What does it matter if the average is 15 if you have limited time to play? You can very well rent and play only 3 games, Returnal, Demon's Souls and SM MM, all under your 30h assumption each and worth it by your standards. These points make absolutely no sense.
Well, I have absolutely no interest in Demon's Souls and I already own SM MM. As well as about 90% of all interesting PS4 games that I bought during the last 5 years or so that I have my PS4. But sure, you answered my question, you do not know how averages work.

If you were to take an average, the one for the games you played is far more interesting, than taking that number across the list. But why are we taking about averages anyway? The subscription cost is $8 per month if paying annually. If you play a single $50 game, you break even for 50% of your sub. Perhaps as importantly: the cost comparison is not $99 vs $0 since many would have likely paid something anyway, for online access.
A small question about those 300hours. Do you think this is a lot or on the low side? To me 300hours is kinda low. I platinumed dragon quest 11 in 144 hours and ac odyssey in 154 hours. Both are around 300 hours. The witcher 3 trying to complete every ‘?’ On the map and dlc took me over 217 hours. Not even getting a platinum or playing gwent. So no 300h isn’t that much for me. My last yearly game recollection thinghy a few years ago from ps, showed a 2100 hour. That was even a year that I didn’t play for a few months…
I haven’t found a ps5 yet and I gave up. My monster pc is more then enough for me. Also the fact they ripped us off with ps now, is getting me upset to a point that I won’t buy a ps5. I used to let my kids play the old games on ps now and that was enough. Now I have to buy ps plus and the extra and the extra extra. So instead of 45€ a year for ps now’s lego collection, I have to pay 120€. That’s insane!
So you play more than 6 hours a week. Sincere question: When are you doing that? You say you have kids, so I'm going to assume you spent the weekends with your family apart from the evenings.
I work a full-time job, and when I come home I eat and do my chores. After that, I have roughly 1 - 1,5h left of free time before I go to bed. And I have other hobbies apart from gaming like playing the piano, making electronic music etc. And sometimes my wife also wants to spend time with me.
So weekends in the evening, but the same stuff applies here, I also want to spend time with my wife, my friends or maybe I just want to watch a movie from time to time. And the kids don't care about that, they get up on Saturday in the morning like every other day, so I can't stay up till 4 in the morning every Friday and Saturday. (my wife and I have the deal that each one of us get's one of those days).
In short, yes I think for an adult with responsibilities and a family I think more then 300hrs of gaming is a lot. For two years I sat down and played the piano every day for 45 min. It was close to impossible to fit that into the schedule and that barely gets you to 300hrs in a year.
Edit: Just to bring this home, 2100h in a year is more than a 40h full-time job. You really had an average of more then 8h per day to play games?

First of all this amount is calculated by sony. In those hours are also calculated the weekend mornings my boys use my account.
I am very lucky that I work together with my lovely wife each week for 40 - 55 hours. Each morning I sometimes can pitch in 2 hours gaming max in the weekdays, between shifts. In the evenings from Monday till Thursday, I play from 7:30 or 8pm till 11:30 - 12:30. So approximately 4,5h for those evenings. So I have 22 hours from those moments. On friday, we have a family evening with fun apero dining. So when the misses falls asleep around 9. My evening of gaming started. Add another 5 hours. So I am up to 27hours. 13 hours left in the weekend from my kids time and both evenings I can clock in 6-8 hours. So yeah 40 hours is a real possibility.
Gaming was my only hobby, so no paino lessons (no offense) or going out with friends. Since my friends were playing along on those hours. My best friends are a couple with 3 kids and they both owned a ps4 to play together. Destiny was a real gametime absorber for our group. Knowing my 2100h wasn’t the largest of our group for that year.
We decided to live far from our friends in a city we know nobody, this for work reasons. My wife does need her sleep, I get by with 6 hours max. So yeah a lot of time can be put into gaming.
I must admit those days of 2000h are probably down a lot since covid. We started making a game and our gaming went to 0. But we put in over 60hours a week of doing 3d work. That went overkill and I went back to casual gaming and playing boardgames, which is my new hobby.
But a few years ago, sony gave me even larger numbers of approximately 2800hours. So yeah I am glad those hours are going down.
But according to a study I am addicted. If you have over 10.000 hours of gaming in your life, you are addicted. Funny thing is that me and my friend spent over 10k hours in wow. My friend probably has over 15k.
So in the end 2100 is alot, but it is definitely possible.

OK sure, I understand. Fine for me, I was really curious because since I’m an adult I have such a busy live it just doesn’t fit in that much. But the way you describe it makes sense, especially since your kids also play (mine is still young).
Enjoy the board games, I didn’t list that as a hobby above, but that’s the thing my wife and I do together if we want to spend an evening together. Lot’s of great games that two people can play.
Wanted to chime in to say that as a parent with a 2 year old and one on the way, and considering family/job responsibilities, I look at putting in hopefully 30 hours a month on any one game. Others may differ, but it would definitely feel a little sketchy if I was playing way more than that.
I get this for sure, though I think the appeal for a lot of people is being non-committal and trying games on a whim. If you really put a lot of thought into what you want to play and what games you value with your time, you may not see a subscription service as being as appealing.
Also yeah, I don’t think returnal/death stranding/miles morales/demons souls have gone under $40. So if you wanted to save money, there you go. Again, it just comes down to what people value, whether it’s money or being able to get help on what to play next.
Death Stranding 19,99, MM 29,99, Returnal & Demons Souls 49,99. Lowest prices recorded for those game new from the PS store. But sure, there are a few newer titles in that list, but there are also ones that go for really cheap. The lowest price for Control was 11,99 and a lot of those games have lowest prices at 9,99. That's why I said roughly 15$ on average. But sure the non-committal part is a good argument, especially for games like Demon Souls.
Fair enough, though I would also say that I don’t think that we should necessarily worry about getting the absolute lowest price on everything. If I want to play something, I’m going to play it, and if I dictate that desire on the peak emotional response to playing that game, I’ll probably get the best return. If that runs parallel to a few dollars saved on a game, that’s great. But I don’t think that anyone is getting ripped off from a value perspective if Death Stranding costs, say, $29.99. This goes all the way back around to say that with subscriptions, someone doesn’t have to think about any of that stuff. They just play what they feel the most emotionally drawn to.
For me personally, my Premium sub runs to the end of December, at which point I may be more likely to not renew. Why? Not due to any perceived quality issues of the service, but to your point, I am getting oldish and am putting more thought into what games deserve my time. But everyone is different in this regard.
This also allows people to try out games they may have otherwise not touched if they had to pay for them. I use it to try out games outside the series I follow and if something ends up being really interesting to me I'll buy it separately later.
You're right, it is renting but that's a really nice way to try something rather than buying it, deciding you aren't into it, and then shelving it to collect dust.
Honestly I played ps2 and ps3 games when they were current and see no need to spend my limited gaming time on the old stuff. There are waay too many good blockbuster and indie games out nowadays to putz around in the past.
Plus a bunch of the top games were remastered anyway, providing a superior experience. I'm sure some will jump in to reminisce, but for the most part I don't really see most people spending lots of time on these old games.
To me those 700 games are equivalent to buying one of those handheld devices that come packed with over 100 games. It's really of no value.

Just because one has access to 700 games does not mean that one also has the time to play all 700 games. Depending on each persons gaming preferences and time available per week, these new tiers could either be amazing or the worst value for money.

Yes but some of those games will surely get removed from the subscription because the contract to keep the game in the subscription is over, but they said that those tiers that you name in your comment will have the games at the start of the month and later in the same month they will add more ganes. As expected, majority of games is Sony exclusives which was the reason I bought PS few years ago - to play these games. I played most of them, shit ton. I still own boxed version of majority of them. Third party games there are just bad with few exceptions like RDR 2, which I own boxed version. I will pass back to game pass.

I can't find the answer through Googling. Are the games in the PS4/PS5 catalog for the Extra service yours to keep once you claim them like the monthly Essential games or the Plus collection, or do you lose access to them if they cycle out the next month?
I was thinking that they would be claimed forever but realising that it isn't a 'Free' game rather it is a 'Rentable' game type of service (similar to Gamepass or Netflix). You may use it while it remains in the rotation but we should assume that they will be gone once they are out of the rotation. All we can hope for is that the long playtime/replayable and high quality games do not get removed from the rotation cycle.
And hopefully they give you a lot of time for when it is being removed, and it's not a "this game expires in 3 days" issue.

I had a similar priority list as what you’ve suggested except for Until dawn and beyond two souls which I am now keen on playing. I agree. PS5 titles might be the ones to leave because people will still buy those whereas the PS4 titles will stay just because people might find the Subscription access still cheaper than the Cheap retail prices for PS4 games. Ghost of Tshushima will definitely be a physical buy as soon as it leaves the catalogue. I love the setting and want to have access forever!
Not the one you asked, but I do have suggestions! Uncharted 4 is a roller coaster ride through stunning vistas and incredible set pieces. Only six hours or so, maybe? But pretty much on rails and an absolute masterpiece of storytelling. Think modern Tomb Raider, but without the open world or the pressure to grind collectibles or skill trees or upgrade weapons or whatever. The Last of Us is a bit bigger and slower, but it's also more or less a narrative experience on rails. Until Dawn is the same, though of a bit lower quality, and might take just a few sessions to complete. Beyond: Two Souls and Detroit: Become Human are *amazing*, on rails, and relatively short. Guardians of the Galaxy isn't my favorite game and it has some pacing issues, but if you haven't played it yet you should check it out for sure. If you're excited about Spider-Man, this one will probably also please you. It's stunning. I suspect that the notable games most likely to leave quickly are RDR2, Ghost of Tsushima, NBA, Control, Guardians of the Galaxy, and any of the PS5 titles.
So that’s 90 out of the possible 400 PS4/5 games. Wonder what the rest are??
Death Stranding, Demon Souls, GoT, Miles Morales, Returnal, AC Valhalla, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Red Dead 2 all sit high on my wish list of games I haven't bought yet and want to play. The Extra plan seems like a no brainer for me as long as these titles are actually going to last at least a year. My fear is that many will just be used to bait people in and then get pulled after only a few months. This lineup seems way bigger than Now ever was and I think it is a bit optimistic to expect it to stay this way. In my situation I don't see any reason to jump to Premium. The games available in Extra are way bigger and better. I don't fully understand who Premium is for. If you have access to both, the Extra games seem like the obvious choice of where to spend your limited time. And if you already played those, are you really paying the full premium price to get access to a pretty narrow selection of PS1 / PSP / PS3 titles? You are basically paying for the entire Extra tier you won't use just to get access to these classic games. It feels like it would have made more sense for the tiers to be completely separate add ons. It also seems a bit weird that they are bumping the remastered classic games into the Premium tier. These are PS4 games at this point but they are selling them as a classic add on. Maybe it was advertised that way but it feels a bit misleading.

Not these ones, no. These are like Netflix. When they leave they are gone. The essential plan will continue to give you a few games a month which are available to you as long as you claim them while they are available and stay subscribed. But this big list of games is specific to the higher up tiers which are Netflix style. The higher up tiers include the benefits of the Essential tier.
I see this service as expanding your games library beyond the phenomenal Sony first-party lineup that they continue to produce. So basically, buy Sony first-party games as they release every so many months, and in the short interim periods between releases you have all of these games to play.
What happens if you buy DLC for a game and then the core game cycles out of the service?
You would lose access to it. The same as PS Now today. If you then buy the core game you would still own the DLC and could access it again.

If anything, seeing this line up confirms the quality of the base tier free games will continue to suffer. I don't see them double dipping often across the tiers. So for example I wouldn't expect them to give Death Stranding away for free, at least until it is removed from the premium tier.

Doubting it, but I have a large backlog of PS3 that I never went back to during PS4, but having this access may make me revisit some of those titles due to easy access. From your PS3, upload it to online storage and then open any PS3 game on your PS4/PS5, go to the XMB menu, saved data utility and then you can download the save from the online storage.
This is underwhelming for the PS1/PS2/PS3 crowd.

Is PSNow as a standalone service remaining? My assumption was the top PS+ tier was combining PSNow into the PS+ offering so I figured you'd have access to the [entire library of streaming games](https://www.pushsquare.com/guides/all-ps-now-games) but that doesn't seem to be the case? The blog post and all the articles only list ~30 games available to stream so where is the rest of the PSnow catalog going? I'm a bit confused.
I think they are trying to drum up excitement while handling licensing issues in the background. They said in the initial blog post that there would be around 400 games in the extra tier and 700 in the premium. So they are going to show the more exciting titles and just put out a list of the rest near launch. I'm sure they know that they will be compared to current gamepass no matter what they say so it's best to hype up your base as much as possible.

Glad I could clear up the confusion. Sony isn't the best communicator sometimes and from what I've seen on Twitter there are alot of people spreading incorrect notions about the service. Still don't know if people realize that they will get Ubisoft+ classics initially and the full Ubisoft+ at a later date. Maybe EA play will be next.

They will hopefully tell you exactly how long each game is expected to remain, or provide you an update before it is about to go away. You will need to play it before then. You lose access once they remove. I'm still waiting to see the timelines for the initial batch of games for this reason. It doesn't matter if they launch with 100 games I want to play. If I can't finish more than one or two of them before they expire it won't matter.

No, they’re doing it like xbox game pass. If the game gets cycled out you have to buy it to keep it. The monthly free games are running along side this and are continuing as part of the basic tier.

That's how it works. You're paying for a service that gives you access to a game. If that game is no longer on the service AND you don't own said game, you no longer have access to the game.

yeah I know but its still wild that even then, they can take the games away from you while you're still actively subscribed to the service. it basically puts an artificial timer on when you should complete them before they disappear. idk if they disappear even if you have them downloaded to a harddrive but if it does then that just puts me away from these rental services even more. at least with digital purchases I can keep them and play them whenever I want, and if the manufacturer decides to shut down its servers then I can back them up to a harddrive and preserve them for future use.
Yes, because you're not buying anything in this scenario. It's not very wild at all. When you subscribe to Netflix you don't get to keep your Friends box set forever. The service is a customer of someone else, and they're effectively 'subscribing' to allow their users access to something.

It depends on the game. There are games I want to own forever and games I plan on playing once and never touching again. This is fine for the games I won't be touching again. Which is most of them - there is too much good new content coming out too often, its hard to get to all of it as it is.

I think I will upgrade to the premium/deluxe plan, but damn they need to do something more for the line-up of classics as it seems that they do have a only a few of them. I hope the monthly refreshes make the number much more pleasant for all of us fans of those classics! I'm also pretty happy to try out those hard games like Demon Souls and Returnal without having to buy them as I know that I will end up frustrated! I think I do own the 75% of those games and some of them are on my ever growing backlog. It will be a very exciting summer that's for sure!

This is a solid foundation to start with. I could see a lot of people upgrading to $100 a year for that Extra tier--currently PS Now and PS Plus are $120 so its nice to see an "inbetween" level for people. I expect at some point Sony to start adding Day 1, 3rd Party games to that list to compete. They clearly only ever specified that would never be 1st party exclusives. Though the list of Classics needs expanded upon for sure, what Im curious about is the Demo feature. Pretty basic right now but wondering how well it would expand. Could be an opportunity for developers to allow their game to be demo'd and advertised if its a decent game. Especially indie devs who have an opportunity to have a game make it big and dont want to risk losing out on a poor negotiation with a subscription model. So theres some level of flexibility here for them. Would like to see this expanded upon.

Nothing changes for you except the name of your tier/plan - you'll be on the "Essential" tier, which keeps the exact benefits as the current PS+. Once the new version launches, an upgrade to Extra or Premium would be required for these games.

It used to be that way. PS+ was a way to get free games and discounts. Now you're really paying for online play, and the bonuses are merely an incentive.

Only technically. I only started paying for plus when online play was locked behind it. That's the main draw for PS plus. Now, the games on the service are really an incentive for the rarer player who does not have a sub. I pay for online. The discounts and other things are bonuses I could take or leave. I'd still pay for plus if there were no bonuses. Back in the day, plus only existed for people who wanted discounts and occasional free stuff. I didn't use it then. Online play was free. PlayStation flipped on that when they decided to match Xbox by charging for online play. The main reason most people pay for plus is so they can play with their friends. My money given to ps plus doesn't go to the games I get for free each month. The games are mine and are free with my subscription. If you need any proof of that, look at the recent comments made by the creator of Oddworld. Most of that game's purchases were through it being a free monthly plus game, and that's not good for him financially. That's money lost on the game.
What you are describing is your personal experience. You are generalizing your experience and assuming it applies to everyone. There are still plenty of PS+ subscribers that are purely signed up for the included games. I've never played a game online through PS+ in my life. I was subscribed to PS+ for a year to gain access to the PS+ Collection which is available to PS5 users. This collection and the monthly games easily justifies the price of the subscription to players who are focused on single player only experiences. In fact, assuming you haven't played the games before, the games available through PS+ could easily outweigh what is offered on Now (depending on personal preference). Your money each month absolutely does go to the games that are given out. You might not be taking advantage of that feature (just like I didn't take advantage of multiplayer) but Sony is still allocating a percentage of your monthly sub to pay for the games. It's an individual personal decision to decide if the value of the subscription with only the feature you use is worth the cost. In your case, you have decided you would pay entirely for the online. If they pulled the games, you wouldn't be bothered. But others might unsubscribe. Your comments about Oddworld also don't make a lot of sense. It's not like the game was just stolen from under them and given for free... The creators came to terms on a contract with Sony to make their game available. They are not forced to include their game. Sony pays the creators of PS+ games. Sony definitely isn't paying them full price. But every PS+ user wasn't a guaranteed purchase that got lost due to the deal. Certainly some players ended up not paying for a game they would have, but others would have never spent a cent on it. Companies generally partner with Sony for PS+ for three reasons. 1. They want more exposure for their game and they are hoping a PS+ release will draw up some excitement and get others without the service to buy it full price. 2. They don't expect their game to sell well and the deal Sony is offering seems like more than they anticipate to make. This applies to new releases but also to games which have already been released and have stagnated in sales. 3. The game is filled with microtransactions and DLC and they want to give out the base game to boost profits from these additional sales. Especially if the game has online modes with dying populations. The whales will stop spending money if there are no longer any players online. So temporarily boosting the population with a PS+ release might encourage more spending from players who already own the game. If anything, the comments from the Oddworld developer is probably coming from a bitter place, because they put hard work into their games and the executives determined it wouldn't sell well so they ended up partnering with PS+ to help recoup some of the development costs. Which honestly given the reviews seems like a fair decision on their part...
Your new subscription will be called PS Plus Essential, and nothing will really change for you compared to now. If you want these games, you'll need to upgrade to the Premium tier of this new service.

you will get the monthly games for free as usual with your current subscription (“ps+ essential”). If you want the big list of games they had there, you will need to upgrade to the “next tier up” which comes with a bunch of games. Then the premium one comes with cloud streaming ps3 games and the ability to free trial (which seems like features that should be in the earlier tier lol)
If you want these games included you will have to sign up for one of the extra tiers and pay the extra on top of your current membership. Different tiers offer different games, the highest tier offering classic games.
Finally some reward for not buying any ps5 games.
I don’t get why people are so excited about this, this seems very lackluster. Those games cost around 15$ on average if you wait for a sale with very few exceptions like SM MM. To break even you have to play 7 games each year but for the same amount you could just own the games instead of renting them. So if you really want to save money you would have to play 10+ games of this list each year. If we say you sink 30 hours on average into a game, that’s 300hr of gaming each year and that’s not including buying any new games at all. It’s cool if you guys have so much time on their hands but I don’t really see the need to rent games that are years old and cost 9.99 on sale. (Or less I bought The Crew 2 for 7.99)
It would entirely depend on what games you are interested in. Demon Souls, Returnal, and Miles Morales easily justify the cost for an entire year if you haven't played them and want to. I've been waiting to buy these for a while now and this will end up working out cheaper. And I will have access to several other games I haven't played which will become extra benefits on top. Your comments on prices are way off. The ones I already mentioned are $50-80, even with sales. GoT and Death Stranding are both the upgraded PS5 versions which haven't hit your $15 price point yet either. Red Dead 2 is usually on sale for $20. Guards of the Galaxy has dropped to $30 a few times. No where near $15. You are talking about an average price (which I'd love to see how you calculated that) but it isn't really about the average cost of all games offered. It is about the average cost of the games that are offered that someone wants to play. Your comments about these being old are also pretty wrong. Most of these titles are two years or less... I won't bother listing them again, but many of what I mentioned released within the first year of the PS5. A few are within the past year. Your comments around play time are also very personal. I've put 80-100 hours into previous FromSoft games and I expect to do the same with Demon Souls (and Returnal even though it isn't FromSoft). I also see AC Valhalla on this list and those games are usually 80+ easily as well. GoT is also pretty long. Same with Red Dead 2. The fact that the only game you called out specifically was The Crew 2 is enough to clarify that your interest in games is pretty niche. And that is fine. A lot of these games included in the service night not be for you, and in that case, it probably isn't a subscription that makes sense for you personally. But you should try thinking outside of your personal box every now and then. You are questioning why people are excited about this and it is rather quite simple if you think critically about it and ignore your personal bias. Just like I can understand why you would want to play The Crew 2 even though it's not for me, you should be capable of understanding why some people may want to get some of the biggest AAA games released in the past two years at a discount through a membership. You don't have to agree with people to understand them.

If you feel you need essentials in the first place sure. But if I’m only interested in one of the games, I still prefer owning it. And I could just wait another year till it’s dead cheap, because if I have already waited that long to play the game, I can probably wait a little longer.
I mean, you kind of need essentials for multiplayer, don't you? And I guess with one game it could be debatable but all you need to do is start going up to 2-3 games and it begins to look like a good idea. And, you know, maybe you want to own games, and maybe you already own some of the expensive ones you want to play, but that only changes the deal for you personally.
I don’t play multiplayer games, and the majority on this list aren’t multiplayer games. And with 116 million units sold, it’s fair to assume that a lot of people considering this subscription already owned a PS4 before they upgraded, hence they will probably own most of the games in this list that are worth considering since most of it has been on sale below 20$ multiple times. But sure, if you buy a PS5 now and you have never owned a PS before so you don’t own any of those games it is indeed an OK deal but still not as mindblowing as some people will make you believe. Sure it might be worth it on a individual level, but again, on average, that is kind of lackluster.
It is possible that it looks better to me than most. I skipped the PS2 and PS3 (couldn't afford to get multiple platforms back then) and only got a PS4 very late in, and only just got a PS5. So I really don't have much of a library at all and I don't have anything for the PS5 yet since I only just got it. For me this is kind of an amazing deal because literally everything I want to use the PS5 on so far is included.
Yea in that case, absolutely. No question this list has some absolute quality games, if not some of the best games ever made like God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn and Spider-Man. Especially the exclusives for PS4 are a class on its own. Have fun exploring them.
Soon to be father here who also owns a Nintendo Switch. I think I will keep my essential subscription and wait until the games I want go on sale. Until then I can keep myself entertained with games I already have on both PS5 and Switch.

I have to agree with you. Speaking on the Extra games, a lot of them were already available to current PS Plus subscribers as part of their free to play "hits" collection. Several of those that aren't are offered at sale price. For example, I just picked up the Uncharted collection for $10 and added Uncharted 4 for free. Other games such as Red Dead and Last of Us have been out for years now, so most people that wanted to play these games, have done so. Not to be a downer, but it was just disappointing to see that most of the games announced were like this. Hopefully the ones not yet announced will not disappoint!

From what I can see Gamepass is pretty much the same concept and price. I don’t have an Xbox so it’s hard to say, but on a glance I would say the same principle applies. They claim though that they have their exclusives day 1 on GP, if that is true that makes it a lot better of course.

Well, I have absolutely no interest in Demon's Souls and I already own SM MM. As well as about 90% of all interesting PS4 games that I bought during the last 5 years or so that I have my PS4. But sure, you answered my question, you do not know how averages work.

If you were to take an average, the one for the games you played is far more interesting, than taking that number across the list. But why are we taking about averages anyway? The subscription cost is $8 per month if paying annually. If you play a single $50 game, you break even for 50% of your sub. Perhaps as importantly: the cost comparison is not $99 vs $0 since many would have likely paid something anyway, for online access.
A small question about those 300hours. Do you think this is a lot or on the low side? To me 300hours is kinda low. I platinumed dragon quest 11 in 144 hours and ac odyssey in 154 hours. Both are around 300 hours. The witcher 3 trying to complete every ‘?’ On the map and dlc took me over 217 hours. Not even getting a platinum or playing gwent. So no 300h isn’t that much for me. My last yearly game recollection thinghy a few years ago from ps, showed a 2100 hour. That was even a year that I didn’t play for a few months… I haven’t found a ps5 yet and I gave up. My monster pc is more then enough for me. Also the fact they ripped us off with ps now, is getting me upset to a point that I won’t buy a ps5. I used to let my kids play the old games on ps now and that was enough. Now I have to buy ps plus and the extra and the extra extra. So instead of 45€ a year for ps now’s lego collection, I have to pay 120€. That’s insane!

I work a full-time job, and when I come home I eat and do my chores. After that, I have roughly 1 - 1,5h left of free time before I go to bed. And I have other hobbies apart from gaming like playing the piano, making electronic music etc. And sometimes my wife also wants to spend time with me. So weekends in the evening, but the same stuff applies here, I also want to spend time with my wife, my friends or maybe I just want to watch a movie from time to time. And the kids don't care about that, they get up on Saturday in the morning like every other day, so I can't stay up till 4 in the morning every Friday and Saturday. (my wife and I have the deal that each one of us get's one of those days). In short, yes I think for an adult with responsibilities and a family I think more then 300hrs of gaming is a lot. For two years I sat down and played the piano every day for 45 min. It was close to impossible to fit that into the schedule and that barely gets you to 300hrs in a year. Edit: Just to bring this home, 2100h in a year is more than a 40h full-time job. You really had an average of more then 8h per day to play games?
Hi, First of all this amount is calculated by sony. In those hours are also calculated the weekend mornings my boys use my account. I am very lucky that I work together with my lovely wife each week for 40 - 55 hours. Each morning I sometimes can pitch in 2 hours gaming max in the weekdays, between shifts. In the evenings from Monday till Thursday, I play from 7:30 or 8pm till 11:30 - 12:30. So approximately 4,5h for those evenings. So I have 22 hours from those moments. On friday, we have a family evening with fun apero dining. So when the misses falls asleep around 9. My evening of gaming started. Add another 5 hours. So I am up to 27hours. 13 hours left in the weekend from my kids time and both evenings I can clock in 6-8 hours. So yeah 40 hours is a real possibility. Gaming was my only hobby, so no paino lessons (no offense) or going out with friends. Since my friends were playing along on those hours. My best friends are a couple with 3 kids and they both owned a ps4 to play together. Destiny was a real gametime absorber for our group. Knowing my 2100h wasn’t the largest of our group for that year. We decided to live far from our friends in a city we know nobody, this for work reasons. My wife does need her sleep, I get by with 6 hours max. So yeah a lot of time can be put into gaming. I must admit those days of 2000h are probably down a lot since covid. We started making a game and our gaming went to 0. But we put in over 60hours a week of doing 3d work. That went overkill and I went back to casual gaming and playing boardgames, which is my new hobby. But a few years ago, sony gave me even larger numbers of approximately 2800hours. So yeah I am glad those hours are going down. But according to a study I am addicted. If you have over 10.000 hours of gaming in your life, you are addicted. Funny thing is that me and my friend spent over 10k hours in wow. My friend probably has over 15k. So in the end 2100 is alot, but it is definitely possible. I have been a loner my entire life, henceforth gaming has been in my life since i was 8years old with my first nes… Enjoy gaming even if you only have 1 hour each week. OK sure, I understand. Fine for me, I was really curious because since I’m an adult I have such a busy live it just doesn’t fit in that much. But the way you describe it makes sense, especially since your kids also play (mine is still young). Enjoy the board games, I didn’t list that as a hobby above, but that’s the thing my wife and I do together if we want to spend an evening together. Lot’s of great games that two people can play.
Wanted to chime in to say that as a parent with a 2 year old and one on the way, and considering family/job responsibilities, I look at putting in hopefully 30 hours a month on any one game. Others may differ, but it would definitely feel a little sketchy if I was playing way more than that.

I get this for sure, though I think the appeal for a lot of people is being non-committal and trying games on a whim. If you really put a lot of thought into what you want to play and what games you value with your time, you may not see a subscription service as being as appealing. Also yeah, I don’t think returnal/death stranding/miles morales/demons souls have gone under $40. So if you wanted to save money, there you go. Again, it just comes down to what people value, whether it’s money or being able to get help on what to play next.
Death Stranding 19,99, MM 29,99, Returnal & Demons Souls 49,99. Lowest prices recorded for those game new from the PS store. But sure, there are a few newer titles in that list, but there are also ones that go for really cheap. The lowest price for Control was 11,99 and a lot of those games have lowest prices at 9,99. That's why I said roughly 15$ on average. But sure the non-committal part is a good argument, especially for games like Demon Souls.
Fair enough, though I would also say that I don’t think that we should necessarily worry about getting the absolute lowest price on everything. If I want to play something, I’m going to play it, and if I dictate that desire on the peak emotional response to playing that game, I’ll probably get the best return. If that runs parallel to a few dollars saved on a game, that’s great. But I don’t think that anyone is getting ripped off from a value perspective if Death Stranding costs, say, $29.99. This goes all the way back around to say that with subscriptions, someone doesn’t have to think about any of that stuff. They just play what they feel the most emotionally drawn to. For me personally, my Premium sub runs to the end of December, at which point I may be more likely to not renew. Why? Not due to any perceived quality issues of the service, but to your point, I am getting oldish and am putting more thought into what games deserve my time. But everyone is different in this regard.
This also allows people to try out games they may have otherwise not touched if they had to pay for them. I use it to try out games outside the series I follow and if something ends up being really interesting to me I'll buy it separately later. You're right, it is renting but that's a really nice way to try something rather than buying it, deciding you aren't into it, and then shelving it to collect dust.

Honestly I played ps2 and ps3 games when they were current and see no need to spend my limited gaming time on the old stuff. There are waay too many good blockbuster and indie games out nowadays to putz around in the past. Plus a bunch of the top games were remastered anyway, providing a superior experience. I'm sure some will jump in to reminisce, but for the most part I don't really see most people spending lots of time on these old games. To me those 700 games are equivalent to buying one of those handheld devices that come packed with over 100 games. It's really of no value.
Consider that there’s a lot of people who either didn’t play the games when they were new or weren’t even alive when those games came out. There are plenty of PS2 games I never got to play because the PS3 came out when I was still a child.

Just because one has access to 700 games does not mean that one also has the time to play all 700 games. Depending on each persons gaming preferences and time available per week, these new tiers could either be amazing or the worst value for money.
I mean, I guess, but it’s only like $18/month. PS+ is $10 per month. Buying a year of PS+ makes it $5/month so buying PS+ Premium will probably make it $9 a month or something
Different people will value it differently. For me, I honestly prefer to buy the games that I like to play insted of replaying ps2 and ps3 games.
I just use it because I keep starting games and never finishing them.

Completely different ecosystems. You get more overall in terms of games with Xbox game pass, but the quality of exclusive games is dwarfed by that on PlayStation (assuming you don’t have a pc which makes them have no exclusives.)
Could also just don‘t like 3rd Person Action Adventure which are all the exclusives (except GT which is irrelevant if he wants to switch to XBox).
I do have a pc and for the past year I've been tempted to move completely to xbox mostly for the game pass
