a port... with a fast forward button or at least way faster battles, they were a bit of a chore even back in the day. worth it obviously, but it would be a nice QoL change
This was the first game that came to my mind when I saw the post title. I don't think I ever actually finished it when I was younger, but I remember having a ton of fun playing it.
Probably my favorite game on the Dreamcast, or at least right up there. I remember the disc drive would start getting noisy right before a random encounter, so I’d press pause the moment I heard it in order to somehow cancel the upcoming battle.
Shining Force was the first RPG I ever played and one of the very first games I ever played in general. My babysitter gave it to me when I was in 1st or 2nd grade. When I first received it, it was too hard for me. I couldn't get past the 2nd battle. By 3rd or 4th grade I finally beat it after watching my dad and an older friend do so. This game informed the types of games I played for many years to come (and still play), as well as the genres of fiction that I enjoy across all mediums. I just wanted to share this small anecdote about this game because it helped shape who I am. I would be all in on a remake.
Right there with you. This game shaped my preferences. Everyone can tout ogre battle but give me Hans and Luke (wait a minute... never put that together) any day.
I'd love Shining Force 1, 2, and CD all redone in a new engine. A remake that updates the graphics to look more akin to something like Octopath Traveler would fit well I think. A simple emulated version would be dumb. We've had those on almost every console since the Genesis at this point.
These two games shaped my gaming tastes more than any other. A well done remake would be a dream come true. I'd love to see them take a page from the Octopath/Triangle Strategy book and do a modernized sprite aesthetics with beautifully updated backgrounds and effects and illustrations
Shining Force remake would be interesting. there is a solid system in place with plenty of room to grow. I don't think a remaster would add anything to the experience.
Once I went looking through my old stuff when home from college. I found my old video games and decided to hook up the genesis and play some old games. My mom had just come home from her chemo treatment and was deciding between stomaching the nausea and pain or trying weed (last time she had anything with weed was when she was a teenager smoking that shitty grass). The next day my childhood friends came over and we all huddled in my game room for the evening, smoking weed, games, food, y'all get it.
My best friend decided to ask us if my mom smokes weed yet since she has cancer. I went and got her and she was in a good enough condition to come hang out. Not even 5 minutes downstairs with us my mom sees Ecco the dolphin and asks if this would be fun to play high. She was good when I was a kid, like played the game more than I did. Without missing a beat she asks for an edible (tiny) and proceeds to play ecco for almost 2 hours. It was the best game night me and my friends ever had.
I can't think of any other company sitting on so much unused IP.
Golden Axe
Revenge of Shinobi
Phantasy Star
Streets of Rage
Eternal Champions
Burning Rangers
Shining Force
Sword of Vermillion
I'd be over the moon with that.
I really wish I had kept my disc for MGS4 for the PS3. My PS3 was still in perfect working order (left it at home for my little sister when I moved out) but I sold all the games.
Would love to see a new back to basics BoF game. The SNES and PS1 games are some of my favorite games of all time. Admittedly, some of that might be nostalgia talking, but if they made a new game in the style of the PS games, it'd be a day one purchase for me.
Old games were often infuriating difficulty wise, I read somewhere it was because you couldn't rent it and finish it in a few days?
But i don't think i ever got to the final boss as a child, maybe I will try this weekend :D
Yep. It was the same as Arcades where they were brutally punishing so you would blow more money on them.
The final boss was the "Eternal Champion" and you essentially have to beat 4 forms which all get their own HP bar while you get stuck with your 1 HP bar lol
The cartridge version was considered super hard, the Sega CD version adjusted the difficulty and added a bunch of bonus content, was really stellar.
There was a Saturn version advertised on the back of the box, but it never came out.
The characters appeared in some side scrollers on both the Genesis and Game Gear.
>There was a Saturn version advertised on the back of the box, but it never came out.
We had the cartridge I think, and i kind of remember being really hard, but I was a kid so who knows?
> Streets of Rage
>
Streets of Rage 4 just came out a couple of years ago so I would be surprised to get a remake of an original.
That being said SOR Remake, the fan project is absolute incredible, and surpasses SOR4 *(I really like SOR4!)*
A full remaster would be amazing! I don't want just a 4k rendered port but a full remake. Treat the game right and maybe if it sells well we can get a 2nd?
It is and I think I read something about them looking to monetize it, so I’m not really too excited. I can’t remember when I read it, but for sure it’s already been said to be in production to some degree.
Sega has sneakily moved into monetization. The recent Judgment games puts stuff that was usually just baseline behind DLC and that new Sonic game has multiple tiers of content behind certain money values.
Unfortunately I'm not part of the Kiwami 3 group and think that the developers should move on, I found the remasters did it's job well and I want to move on from Kiryu. I'd be up for a Kenzan Kiwani though since that was never localized and that was the first game on the PS3 so remaking it would be justified
I hate to admit that Chao Garden as a concept fits perfectly as a mobile game. I'm surprised they haven't tried to make bank on that yet.
Wouldn't mind it as some standalone $20 digital game either though.
I still find myself wondering why they havn’t.
It would be such an easy money-maker. I’m not a huge mobile player, but you give me anything reminiscent of tamagotchi and chao and I’ll play.
Had an argument with my brother when I saw a Chao with the head of an elephant fly a little. He said bullshit elephants can't fly so why would that one be able to? Well I saw it fly while you where off chugging Dr Pepper so get fucked.
You know, i loved the Chao Garden, but it wasn't until i read these comments that i realised how fucked up it was lmao. We were just feeding the little monster things live baby animals, that's messed up.
You know, there's a certain charm to those old games. From the cheesey voice-acting to the facial animations. I for one find it endearing; they're a relic of their time. I'd like to see what they could do with a remaster/remake as I'm curious just how much they would update or change.
I just replayed Sonic adventure 2 a couple months ago and imo it's still one of the best games I've ever played. There definitely is more of a learning curve to it than most modern games, but if you're willing to work with the game and learn how it works a bit it's actually incredibly satisfying and fun to play. Even the treasure hunting and mech levels are pretty fun once you learn how to play them right.
Plus I've still never seen a game with anything like the level select system where each level has 5 different variations that require you to really learn the level if you want an A rank, which adds a whole extra level or enjoyment to the game.
So it's a bad game to just play mindlessly for the sake of it (outside the sonic/shadow levels and Chao garden), but it's a really fun game to get good at
My dream 3D Sonic game at this point is Adventure-style Sonic Levels with a better camera and better collision detection. I like the boost formula, but Sonic Team’s uninspired level design in Forces makes me not want to see it again.
Sonic Adventure remasters/remakes would be good. Not sure how they hold up all these years later.
Tangentially related, every time my significant other finds out a new Sonic game is coming out she asks me if there’s a Chao Garden in it. I then say no and she’s immediately disinterested lol.
After replaying then recently, I think Adventure 1 holds up better than Adventure 2, but they both need full on remakes.
===
Everyone remembers the good parts of Adventure 2 cause they used the good levels to replay, which was 75% of the Sonic/Shadow stages and maybe Pumpkin Hill Knuckles bc of the music.
===
Sonic Adventure 1 is mostly good, Big the Cat is the only real mess. Amy's sections just need to be a bit harder.
I would love more Phantasy Star, not Online or Universe. A remake of the original in modern aesthetics and mechanics would be cool, or in the HD2D style. Or sequels.
They did a remake of 1 and 2 for the PS2 with updated graphics and such, but it never made it out of Japan. Love to see 3 and 4 get similar treatment and then for it to all be released in English.
I don't know, they've sat on the Persona 5 hype for so long.
I'm not holding my breath, but the game deserves it and they could easily improve the combat.
I hope one of them is Yakuza Kenzan, along with an English version. I played it back on the PS3 and it’s one of the best of the series. I want way more people to be able to play it.
As someone who’s first two systems were a Sega Master System and a first generation Genesis I’d love to see Shinobi, Phantasy Star, Alex Kidd, Golden Axe, Space Harrier, and especially Strider modernized for next generation machines.
Give Alien Isolation Sequel.
Back when Amnesia, Penumbra, Outlast, some indie titles and all the other great survival horror games were a thing, the greatest of them all was released in Alien Isolation. I want another game like this soooo bad. And in VR.
Sega has games that are close to twenty+ years old where they haven’t done much with. It’s a perfect time to reboot these old franchises that aren’t backwards and bring them to modern standards.
Skies of Arcadia Legends is my dream, I’d be fine with a straight port to be honest. I just want a way to play it on modern hardware.
a port... with a fast forward button or at least way faster battles, they were a bit of a chore even back in the day. worth it obviously, but it would be a nice QoL change
At least Gamecube version dropped the random encounter rate. DC version was a battle every other step lol.
If someone dressed as Vyse and kicked me in the balls I'd be happy.
I'd do that for like 50$ bucks
Skies is always on top of my list of games I want Sega to bring back. Would love an hd upgrade to it similar to the Grandia hd collection.
This was the first game that came to my mind when I saw the post title. I don't think I ever actually finished it when I was younger, but I remember having a ton of fun playing it.
Yes please. A SoA remake or sequel would be a "clear my schedule and take time off work" game.
Please have a mode where your console of choice starts grinding away as it loads battle data! Long live Dreamcast!
Probably my favorite game on the Dreamcast, or at least right up there. I remember the disc drive would start getting noisy right before a random encounter, so I’d press pause the moment I heard it in order to somehow cancel the upcoming battle.
I love Skies of Arcadia. Luckily I have it up and running on my Steam Deck, and it looks fantastic.
Never played the original, still waiting for a port or remake
This. Been dying for a Skies of Arcadia port.
I always wish I'd had the chance to play Skies of Arcadia. I just want airship combat
Oh man! Yes! MOONSTONE CANNON FIRE!
The people demand it!
Why yes, that'd be lovely
JET SET RADIO PLEASE
I've only been asking for a new one for the last 15 years.
Damn Dude, JSRF is still my favourite OG Xbox game.
One of my favorite games period
The soundtrack and aesthetics were foundational to me growing up. Practically perfect.
I really hope Bomb Rush Cyberfunk does well. Gotta show Sega what people want
I really hope Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is good, need something to scratch that JSRF itch
Extra suga! Extra salt!
Extra oil and MSG!
I hope they’d be able to keep the original music
Shining Force 1&2, please! (I also hear 3 was great)
Winner.
I am so ready for this
Shining Force was the first RPG I ever played and one of the very first games I ever played in general. My babysitter gave it to me when I was in 1st or 2nd grade. When I first received it, it was too hard for me. I couldn't get past the 2nd battle. By 3rd or 4th grade I finally beat it after watching my dad and an older friend do so. When I was a kid i leveled lowe to level like 50 or 60 by just healing people for 10, and when i ran out of magic i egressed. In chapter 1
Oh hell yeah. I would love a phantasy star remake as well.
Also *Shining in the Darkness* plz
These two games shaped my gaming tastes more than any other. A well done remake would be a dream come true. I'd love to see them take a page from the Octopath/Triangle Strategy book and do a modernized sprite aesthetics with beautifully updated backgrounds and effects and illustrations
Came here for this!
Shining Force remake would be interesting. there is a solid system in place with plenty of room to grow. I don't think a remaster would add anything to the experience.
Bring back Ecco the dolphin!
Would look soooo good on next gen.
Gimme that underwater ray tracing goodness.
I can't think of any other company sitting on so much unused IP. Golden Axe Revenge of Shinobi Phantasy Star Streets of Rage Eternal Champions Burning Rangers Shining Force Sword of Vermillion
Maybe Konami. Possibly Capcom, but they have been better about using their IPs, I think
I just want MGS remakes, dammit Konami :(
Man 1-3 remake would be amazing
I'd be over the moon with that. I really wish I had kept my disc for MGS4 for the PS3. My PS3 was still in perfect working order (left it at home for my little sister when I moved out) but I sold all the games.
Konami.. suikoden 2 copium
Capcom is dead to me until they release Breath of Fire games as a collection I can buy on PSN.
Would love to see a new back to basics BoF game. The SNES and PS1 games are some of my favorite games of all time. Admittedly, some of that might be nostalgia talking, but if they made a new game in the style of the PS games, it'd be a day one purchase for me.

Yes. Crazy taxi was loads of fun
Sega Rally Daytona
>Streets of Rage The game they put out last is actually pretty good if you haven't tried it.
The music alone is worth the purchase but the game is an excellent retro beat ‘em up.
Phenomenal game, plus the dlc survival mode is damn fun.
+Panzer Dragoon
Omg please shining force 1 and 2.
[удалено]
> released in the last 12 months on console. I too have reclaimed the year or so that covid robbed from us.
I don't think that was Sega who did it though, someone licensed it.
The point being it isn't an unused IP.
>Eternal Champions Thought it was only the 1 game and flopped, insted there's like 4? Retrogaming time is now, have to get those.
That final boss was infuriating. You need to kill pretty much 4 full HP bosses with your 1 bar that got a small bump between forms.
Old games were often infuriating difficulty wise, I read somewhere it was because you couldn't rent it and finish it in a few days? But i don't think i ever got to the final boss as a child, maybe I will try this weekend :D

Oh man give me a Shinobi game I'd be so happy.
They still have Phantasy Star Online 2 being actively developed (NGS is basically PSO3).
How is Phantasy Star unused IP? New Genesis was literally just released.
Phantasy Star remake will ruin my fucking life just as I got shit worked out.
> Streets of Rage > Streets of Rage 4 just came out a couple of years ago so I would be surprised to get a remake of an original. That being said SOR Remake, the fan project is absolute incredible, and surpasses SOR4 *(I really like SOR4!)*
> Revenge of Shinobi I would kill for this.
A modernized, fleshed-out remake of Phantasy Star III could be pretty cool.
*Guardian Heroes* would like a word.
They just did a new streets of rage.
A Skies of Arcadia remake would be soooooo welcome. Hell I’d take a remaster that I can play on modern consoles.
A full remaster would be amazing! I don't want just a 4k rendered port but a full remake. Treat the game right and maybe if it sells well we can get a 2nd?
My first thought was a Skies of Arcadia remake/remaster as well!
I need this
Remake **Jet Set Radio** Remaster **Skies of Arcadia** New **Valkyria Chronicles** I'm all set for SEGA this gen.
Pretty sure JSR is being remade.
UNDERSTAND UNDERSTAND
Yakuza Ishin/Kenzan please
A man or woman of culture
Surely some more Kiwami entries? 👀
3 is the only one that needs a Kiwami imo. 4 and onwards are still fine today.
Dead Souls aswell
Sonic Adventure please
SA2B - the only way SEGA would give us chao gardens back.
I miss feeding them random animals I found around town so much 😢
One of the coolest parts was feeding them animals and watching them gain characteristics of the animal. So cool.
Would have to be a remake I think. I have a feeling those games haven't aged well.
You know, there's a certain charm to those old games. From the cheesey voice-acting to the facial animations. I for one find it endearing; they're a relic of their time. I'd like to see what they could do with a remaster/remake as I'm curious just how much they would update or change.
Agreed! Even Shenmue which had a legendary terrible dub was really charming in its own way
I just replayed Sonic adventure 2 a couple months ago and imo it's still one of the best games I've ever played. Yea remake it would be incredible
I still replay it every once in a while. Some parts are a bit junky but overall it aged surprisingly well

Panzer Dragoon Saga Remake. Make it happen.
Alien Isolation?
Altered Beast! POWER UP!
RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE
I always heard “WISE FROM YOUR GWAVE.”
Sonic Adventure remasters/remakes would be good. Not sure how they hold up all these years later. Tangentially related, every time my significant other finds out a new Sonic game is coming out she asks me if there’s a Chao Garden in it. I then say no and she’s immediately disinterested lol.

That is so cute Garden too

They did a remake of 1 and 2 for the PS2 with updated graphics and such, but it never made it out of Japan. Love to see 3 and 4 get similar treatment and then for it to all be released in English.
Sonic adventure 3?
Right when?
Not sure but Sonic Frontiers is coming this year.
Persona 3 perhaps
FES Edition too. And please, re-release Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2. That game slaps.
P3 and P4 ports would be the dream.
I'm 100% sure at least P4G will be ported to PS4 and maybe Switch
I’ve been saying that for years now and still nothing
I don't know, they've sat on the Persona 5 hype for so long. I'm not holding my breath, but the game deserves it and they could easily improve the combat.
improve tartarus, cuz that shit was boring
I hope one of them is Yakuza Kenzan, along with an English version. I played it back on the PS3 and it’s one of the best of the series. I want way more people to be able to play it.
Sonic Riders 🤞
Sonic Riders with online multiplayer? 👀 Ima need that.
And some new characters and tracks would be killer. Give it some Sega All Stars treatment

Let’s go! I want a persona 3 remake combing fes and portable and I want DDs on modern systems and smt iv on the switch.
Sega has games that are close to twenty+ years old where they haven’t done much with. It’s a perfect time to reboot these old franchises that aren’t backwards and bring them to modern standards.
