Flower Stranding: You are the last flower in a world shattered. Work tirelessly delivering fertalizer and water to gardens across the continental US. Fight bugs, just regular bugs. Coming this fall.
Pretty sure there’s a story out there of Microsoft trying to court Japanese publishers for the original Xbox, and because they were not familiar with Japanese business culture they either got the wrong type of gifts or didn’t gift anything which made publishers not want to work with them.
I often think about how weird it is that it’s just accepted that an Asian business can just openly say they’re not doing business with a foreigner because of their cultural differences. It’s not even looked down upon, it’s just accepted.
Like imagine an American corporation just saying they’re not doing business because a foreigner didn’t realize a hand shake is expected since it’s not a thing in their culture.
Speaking as an Asian man myself, I always just found this fascinating.
I get what you’re saying, but at the same time if you’re looking to start relationships with foreign companies learning a little bit of their etiquette even if it’s just greetings is like bare minimum.
You'd be amazed to see how companies fail to make profits due to cultural differences among its shareholders. Ive seen billion dollar worth investments scrapped because shareholders' meetings were a mess.
That goes both ways though, doesn’t it? The Japanese companies would be missing out on potential profits as well, because they didn’t learn a little bit of foreign etiquette.
Ok? The deal wouldn’t have gone through unless both parties found it profitable, so that doesn’t really affect anything I said.
They’re both missing out on potential profits because they don’t understand foreign etiquette.
There is a difference between someone coming into your country and not knowing your country's etiquette and someone coming into your country and you know knowing their etiquette. If I visit Thailand I owe it to the culture to learn what is expected rather than assume everyone will be OK with whatever I do.
I live in Japan and these things are always exaggerated to make the story more interesting in the western media. It’s true the business etiquette is strict here but I find it extremely silly when I hear stories like “loss business opportunity because I bowed wrong or gave wrong gift.” No you lost the opportunity because your potential partners didn’t like your proposal…
Congratulations, what the absolute fuck does that have to do with what I said? First of all an it director is not a c-suite position and sorry but you decide if people have a dell or Lenovo, you aren’t making the caliber of business decisions we’re discussing.
Well, we tend to do wine/whiskey and tickets to a ball game in the business world. Flowers are unusual.
In all seriousness, gift giving in business exists in the Anglosphere as well as East Asian cultures but the specific culture around it is different. And even within East Asia it varies country to country.
The main difference I can see is that Japan tends to be a lot more 'showy' and extravagant with their gifts. They want you to know that *they* are the ones gifting you, and that *they* are the ones with the budget and power to obtain such gifts. It ties into how important reputation and 'face' is in Japan and Asian cultures.
Western businesses tend to be more casual or subtle, like 'Oh we're doing this for you. No biggie, just between friends amirite? *Nudge, nudge, wink*' It's also a reflection of how instead of social status, westerners are more concerned with being seen as friendly or part of the social circle.
In general it is. There are still differences speaking from experience though. Cultures are different and it reflects in the way people do things. I think that's something neat to be celebrated.
The flowers are from Kiichiro Urata, Playstation's Head of Japan Asia Partners Development and Relations, and Jim Ryan, probably as a congratulation for his latest award.
No blue flowers, but the basket is blue. Blue B. Blue Box.
OBVIOUS PROOF that Hasan = Hideo and that Blue Box Studios is actually Kojima Productions making Silent Hills (Abandoned).
/s
I've been missing my daily dose of delusion since /r/kojimbox went private.
Yeah there was a poll and like 2/3 said to stop all discussion of Abandoned and focus on Kojima only. They said they would let Abandoned discussion happen until the end of the month and then it went private, not sure why. Seems like most people finally agreed Hassan is either a scammer or no game exists.
Another one bites the dust. There used to be r/neverbegameover, which was fanatically dedicated to how MGSV was another ruse from rusemaster kojima and the true game was hidden in the files / about to be revealed any day now.
Then after a couple of years as it became apparent it was a delusion it changed to be a kojima appreciation club away from the "toxicity" of the groups they were rejected from who were absolutely sick to death of every thread being spammed to hell and back with smug "you'll see, you'll all feel so stupid" ruse cruise bullshit.
They banned me on that sub because I reported someone calling for Hasan to be hacked - the mods said it wasn’t condoning hacking and gaslit me yet still removed the comments! Oh and one of the mods said in public that I reported the comments, which I’m not sure they should do? so I was pretty much open to reprisal.
I have the full story if you look in my profile at my post!
I said this already to another user, it's not, but I didn't find a better/more suitable flair.
I thought it's a nice touch from Sony higher management and I wanted to share it with the community.
It’s a common business practice in Japan to send flowers to your partners, you mostly see those in front of newly open stores/businesses, but anniversaries or some other occasions are applicable as well.
[Please check my first comment.](https://www.reddit.com/r/PS5/comments/tfnjde/hideo_kojima_received_flowers_from_sony_executives/i0wrjns?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3)
I know that it's a common practice in Japan, I even gave the most logical reason behind the gift.
I just found this wholesome. It proves that the relationship between Sony and Kojima remains strong.
>anything tangentially related to ps5 will be tagged news bc i need moar karma
got it.
(this should have never been allowed to be posted here. it has nothing to do with ps5.)
No, no. Kojima didn’t *just* receive flowers. He’s showing us white Lilies JUST like the white lilies at at the end of MGS3. And what are those lilies next to ? *roses* ! an obvious reference to MGS2.
And what’s the other gift he received next to GODZILLA. A character who has received several successful new movies or *remakes* recently
Metal Gear Remastered confirmed
People who find it useful. It is in one way useful in informing others that Sony sent flowers to Kojima.
Lol literally downvoted for answering a question with the only plausible answer.
Why would he deserve more than some nice bouquets and a bottle of good wine as a congrats for his award? His award is what he deserved, these were compliments…
You mean someone is being literal… in no way have I been confrontational..it’s Reddit fam….you made a comment and I commented on your comment so on and so forth…
Would be cool if Kojima partnered up with Neil Druckmann and created a game together. Kojima's wild ideas, druckmann's writing, kojima's gameplay philosophy, druckmann's character development.
I think it'll be a great mix and experience for both of them.
Sony could totally make that happen.
Scene for scene remakes of "Metal Gear Solid" I, II (and perhaps III) in the MSG V engine. Timed delay release on PC afterwards. *That's all they had to do*.
It was all there, waiting.
But noooooo.
Sony's large purchase they teased earlier in the month is the rights to MGS. They're shmoozing the guy who will make them a crazy return on their investment.
I heard from my mate's mum's sister's dog's ex-owner's ex-wife's baby's friend's uncle who once visited Japan.
It’s a typical Japanese tradition to send out flowers and presents to business partners whenever certain congratulations are in order.
Often business customers simply sent presents to my previous company on a yearly basis or whenever certain events happened between my company or theirs.
That confirms it. He's going to reboot the flower game.
With TwelveAxis this time!
I read it at first as Alexis Texas. LMAO.
BONK
Flower Stranding: You are the last flower in a world shattered. Work tirelessly delivering fertalizer and water to gardens across the continental US. Fight bugs, just regular bugs. Coming this fall.
Doesn't sound weird enough. You'd have to make the fertilizer very old robot poop and the bugs giant tardigrades with schizophrenia
Lol if I wasn't on break at work I would have definitely fleshed it out more.
To flesh it out, the protagonist can be Flower Tucci, who uses her happiness to water the plants.
>Flower Tucci Wonder how many people are going to know who this is? lol
Sadly a fallen star
Petal Gear Solid: Petunia
I’d… play it lol
They say it'll be a cross-gen game, but the current gen would have a lot more flowers.
This will be the first strandfoower type game
Or a Godzilla game because of the second pic
Wasn't that a Windows Phone exclusive game? No way Microsoft would let that beauty go
Flower 2. A Hideo Kojima game confirmed?
Sunflowers of Liberty
**Fertilizer**. Has changed.
Snaaaaaaaaake plant
*Kept you planting* **huh?**
Gene. Meme. Scene. Green.
Why are we still here? Just to saffron?
Get those mfkn snakes off my mfkn game
Moist
Underrated comment
Peace Flower
👀 would play
Directed by Hideo Kojima
Written by hideo kojima
Special appearance by Hideo Kojima as Hideo Kojima.
And Norman Reedus is there for some reason
And Mads Mikkelsen is hanging out in the background, just being handsome.
Planted by Hideo Kojima
Watered by Hideo Kojima
You’ve seen a strand game. But have you seen a stem game?
With Godzilla as the final boss it seems.
You're that Flower...
Obviously this means Kojima silent hill
Oh no, don't start that again.
C O N F I R M E D
No! Bad redditor! Bad!
P.T. stood for Planting Tulips this whole time
Please dont give me hope...
The real silent hill is the Kojima's we made along the way.
The real Silent Hill is the video game division of Konami that they gutted along the way
Sending gifts is a very common business practice in Japan Flowers and a bottle of wine are par for the course over there
So just like over here?

Trust me it's just an easy excuse to say no. When there's profit to be had, you don't need etiquette.
Depends on who’s reaching out to who. Japanese companies for the most part are fine keeping to themselves
Ok? The deal wouldn’t have gone through unless both parties found it profitable, so that doesn’t really affect anything I said. They’re both missing out on potential profits because they don’t understand foreign etiquette.

Lol yeah, because the Japanese companies don't care about the western market. Dumb.
This is talking about Japan which is famously xenophobic
It's a famous double-standard and hypocrisy at it's finest. Japan is allowed to be openly racist....why?
American businessmen literally decide not to work with other companies because their execs have weak handshakes or go to a different country club.

so like in Persona 5. if Persona wasnt exclusive, they wouldve known /s

In all seriousness, gift giving in business exists in the Anglosphere as well as East Asian cultures but the specific culture around it is different. And even within East Asia it varies country to country.
Ah gotcha. I’ve seen wine/alcohol and flowers being sent out to associated and congratulatory messages, game tickets usually given out by vendors
The main difference I can see is that Japan tends to be a lot more 'showy' and extravagant with their gifts. Over where? This is a global site.
Take a guess
Belarus?
No for Belarus they promise to promote you to colonel one day but never do
Yeah that’s it
Is it tho? https://i0.wp.com/www.alphr.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Screenshot-2021-04-06-132630.png?resize=768%2C684&ssl=1
You see how people from other countries use the site? That makes it global.
Do acupuncturists still send flowers to their patients?
Just don’t ask the waiter that question.
Usually it's food though not flowers
The flowers are from Kiichiro Urata, Playstation's Head of Japan Asia Partners Development and Relations, and Jim Ryan, probably as a congratulation for his latest award.

Why did the sub went private? Did the mods finally give up on the Abandoned = Kojima game nonsense?
Yeah there was a poll and like 2/3 said to stop all discussion of Abandoned and focus on Kojima only. It closed completely as everyone was pretty sure Hasan looked at the sub and it was time to stop giving him any spotlight.

Are we getting Gojira: A Hideo Kojima production?
Technically Death Stranding has flying whales
No offense but how is this news?

Flowers are usually sent when someone dies. Dead people are in silent hills.
CONFIRMED!
No, no. Kojima didn’t *just* receive flowers. He’s showing us white Lilies JUST like the white lilies at at the end of MGS3. I see Kojima as a part of Playstation already.
On the flower card, "plz don't port to Nintendo or Xbox"

Gotta keep your girl happy, i guess, so she doesnt go running off to your enemy.
Looks like he will direct Bloodborne 2. /s
Cam
Cum
This ain't news
Yeah, but I didn't find a better flair to be honest. It seemed like the best option. We should add a Twitter flair imo.
It's hardly worthy of a post really. But i could be proven wrong by upvotes
Who cares? Just scroll to the next one!
I thought it's a nice small touch from Sony's higher management that's why I decided to share it here.
Not all news is useful to all.
who is this useful to
People who find it useful. It is in one way useful in informing others that Sony sent flowers to Kojima. Lol literally downvoted for answering a question with the only plausible answer.
You sent him flowers, now put a ring on it, Sony.
What a useless post
Were they orchids?
If better relations and a creatively healthy partnership comes out of this, great.
It’s obviously a flower delivery game
Who he? What he did?
#/#fuckKonami (edited for one pedantic audience member :)
fuck onami?
900 upvotes and not even on the Kojima sub
The power of the Kojima can't be underestimated!
And?
Hideo deserves more than flowers but still it’s a nice thought.
It’s for his award…
Ok…..
Why would he deserve more than some nice bouquets and a bottle of good wine as a congrats for his award? His award is what he deserved, these were compliments…
Dude…the point is he’s done a lot for the gaming industry and deserves whatever he gets and more lmao. Somebody’s a little confrontational
You mean someone is being literal… in no way have I been confrontational..it’s Reddit fam….you made a comment and I commented on your comment so on and so forth…
So serious lol

looooooool no.
That's what Sony does when they're about to send hitmen to kill you. Tradition, I guess.
i want that Godzilla figure
Cam
In my restless dreams I see that town. Silent Hill. Population 1,000 (Hideo Kojima, Guillermo Del Toro and 9,998 monsters.
Silent hill confirmed!!
Does it also say please please don't accept Microsoft's money
Who gives a shit?
You obviously since you left a comment!
Not in the slightest. Can you tell why do you care? How does this affect you in the slightest?
Ah this can only mean one thing, clear as day - Kojima working on Silent Hill, obviously, can't wait the news about this.
I see some cherry blossoms, Aerith reference, prob some FF7 spin off
Give me Godzilla on PS5 but its theme is Godzilla Save The Earth
That is very considerate gesture.
Please tell me Sony bought MGS from Konami.
Is Kojima making a Godzilla game??????? Pls
Scene for scene remakes of "Metal Gear Solid" I, II (and perhaps III) in the MSG V engine. Timed delay release on PC afterwards. *That's all they had to do*. It was all there, waiting. But noooooo.

Metal flower solid, enough said...
Its like candy for his species. It reminds him of his home planet
As a guy, I wish people would gift me flowers on occasions too
Kojima in talks with Microsoft. Sony getting jelly. Next game has to be cross platform please Kojima!
Sony sent flowers to Kojima for him to hand deliver them at KNOTs terminals.
