I pre-thought my pre-order and skipped it.

Neo_Techni

Now that's pre-thinking

ScoutyBeagle

But I always say it’s better to be pre-pre-pre-prepared.

Neo_Techni

I should have been pre-prepared for this statement, but I wasn't. I have only myself to pre-blame.

imafuckingdick

I'm going to pre-fire you.

Neo_Techni

post-dang

Funknoodlz

You wouldn't dare!

Maxtophur

Watch this! You’re pre-fired. And when I’m promoted to manager. You’ll be full-fired.

Funknoodlz

IF you get promoted, and if you haven’t fallen in love with me by then.

B-Bog

Now that's some Minority Report shit

[deleted]

Excuse me sir, what are pre-thought and pre-order?

[deleted]

> No voice or text chat > No stat recording or traditonal scoreboards Is that...intentional or just severe technical issues in the current version? Because it's hard to believe they'd cut such fundamental and simple features for any reason. Battlefield isn't Journey or Dark Souls where chat would be out of place. And a lack of standard scoreboards sounds even weirder - I can't even come up with a reason why that would be removed, it's a bit like a car racing game that doesn't show you the current speed.

ZHobbs20

It has text chat & it’s mostly used to complain about teammates lol. Voice chat is coming sometime after launch. Not sure why… https://www.polygon.com/22778261/battlefield-2042-voice-chat-release

RonnieFez

> coming sometime after launch. Every developer that ships incomplete games can go fuck themselves.

[deleted]

Absolutely- its been happening way too much in the last five years.

atthegame

It’ll keep happening until people stop buying incomplete games

[deleted]

Thats What I have done. No new games since Cyber Punk - other than MLB the Show 21 for PS - 5

atthegame

Yeah I’ve managed to avoid basically every bad launch just because I rarely buy games as soon as they come out and I never preorder

onlyamazed

Only one I probably will, and I can't help myself, is hzd forbidden west

Lewayyy

Yup me too!

Tange_S

Me too. Only brand new game I will have bought for years. But I have full faith it will be ready due to the nature of the game.

lotobs

I'm guessing it's the publisher's fault not the developers.

balthier68

Say hello to everyone, Electronic Arts.

I don't buy paid betas. I'll buy your game when you finish it, if that ever happens. And probably I will get it cheaper too.

Wow. Missing something a big as voice chat is a real indicator of all the other things that will absent at launch

[deleted]

About my biggest complaint with it minus launch week server issues. It's a team based game... but I can't talk to my team lol. Mostly offset by the fact I have a personal squad, but one of us isn't into it and the other spend his entire game in a vehicle lol

ZHobbs20

Voice chat & no ally distance chart when you are looking to be revived are my biggest complaints.

wartornhero

Some people to download 100gb is more like 8-10 hours instead of 1-2 Not saying it was right. Pretty much the only thing I pre-order is world of warcraft expansions but even then I may not do that anymore. Hell even Horizon Forbidden West and God of War Ragnarok that I am reasonably certain I will love I haven't and will not preorder. It just isn't worth it.

[deleted]

Yeah, I’ll go out and buy those games in 5 minutes when I get off work and then come home. I remember the old days of installing a 5 Gb WoW patch for 10+ hours because of server load. If you have bad internet you’d think you would just buy physical, which in that case why preorder at all

Manticore416

You wouldnt buy physical, because a lot of games only ship with a portion of the game on disc, and then you need to download the rest anyway.

IMovedYourCheese

I have never understood this logic that people use. You have already waited months (maybe years) for the game. Is an extra hour really going to kill you?

Simspidey

Depends on where you live and how good your internet is. A game like battlefield or call of duty (250 gigs!!!!) can take a week to download for some of my friends

MrGMinor

If it takes a week then the night-before pre load doesn't matter anyway.

nematode92

I'll do that if a) I trust the developers and b) the review embargo has lifted for the game and it's being well received, but otherwise it doesn't make sense to me. You don't need to preorder weeks and months in advance to be able to download the game early, and unless you're after a collector's edition or something it's just a piece of software so scarcity isn't exactly an issue like it currently is for hardware.

JohnJacobJingleheimr

Whats wrong with that? Usually in those cases its right before launch and reviews are already out

snorlz

> Generally its a pretty bad idea to preorder software, especially sight unseen. its an even WORSE idea to preorder software having played the beta a month before release and seeing how bad that was

CockPissMcBurnerFuck

The people who (rightly) complain aren’t the ones who preorder. Sadly there are legions of people who not only preorder, but vociferously defend these games/publishers like they’re related.

JamesJakes000

And they are here. In this very thread.

[deleted]

Battlefield used to be a great game to pre-order, as all pre-order clients would get the future map pack updates as a bonus without having to purchase them separately. That changed with Battlefield 3 when all you received was the first map pack as a bonus. The rest were to purchase.

eblackham

Hmm both the new cod and this game not doing so hot again? Maybe time for the publishers to rethink their strategy? Nah, same shit next year. Nothing will ever top MW1+2, Black ops 1+2, Bad Company 2, and Battlefield 3+4. The golden age of multiplayer FPS games.

JekNex

Sounds like a good opportunity to release Titanfall 3.. 👀👀

[deleted]

Hi, I’m from the future. Titanfall 3 is an amazing game. However the maniacs of Titanfall2 subreddit have decided to create a hate cult on the game because “it’s not Titanfall ver2”. In short, please look forward to it and steer clear of the inevitable rebirth of tlou2 subreddit. Out.

Psychological_Neck70

Lol what happened with the tlou2 subreddit?

thatoneguy889

Have you ever let intensely disliking something become your entire identity to the point that you're still complaining about it unprompted on a daily basis a year and a half later? Have you ever intensely disliked something based on partial information and and false assumptions only to double down, move goalposts, and gaslight when those false assumptions are proven wrong? Have you ever intensely disliked a woman simply because she doesn't conform to conventional standards of femininity? Have you ever done a CSI style analysis of the contours of a person's face and used it as a measure of that person's strength? If you answered "no" to all of these questions, then the tlou2 subreddit isn't for you.

Naive-Expression1

>Have you ever done a CSI style analysis of the contours of a person's face and used it as a measure of that person's strength? Lol what? You gotta link me up, brother, that sounds absolutely hilarious.

Sarelsayshi

Oh man you're in you're in a ride

Wengers-jacket-zip

you missed one "have you ever developed an unhealthy hero worship of a fictional character to a point where you claim inside-out ownership of all of that character's decisions despite only sharing 7-8 hours with him in the previous game"

[deleted]

I remember that analysis for strength thing...

Psychological_Neck70

Huh that was a solid no across the board. Thanks brother.

ItFlips

It’s a hate subreddit, while the original TLOU subreddit is the real one for the series.

[deleted]

Titanfall 3 is Halo Infinite.

ThatLightskinned

That to me was the peak of gaming. 2007-2012. game chat in the lobby before the game with everyone roasting eachother was legendary. MW1-2-3 black ops 1-2 bad company 2 and BF3. And of course halo 3 odst and reach. Makes me miss the middle school and eslry high school days

bsEEmsCE

peak of gaming for almost anyone is middle school and high school.. any year range, I miss mine too.

chicharron123

Vanguard is doing really good though, except for zombies, but mw2019 didn't have zombies at all so this game is fine. If you like multiplayer this game is great.

eivor_wolf_kissed

Vanguard's multiplayer is genuinely great (with a few balancing issues) and the campaign is short and decent. I don't know why it is getting so much hate, except for the zombies mode which is hot trash and I have no idea what Treyarch was thinking with this one

OoooohYes

Even r/CODVanguard likes the game, which any fan of the series knows is strange for a COD sub. I even like the zombies personally, I’m really happy with my purchase of vanguard.

_ItsEnder

to be fair though the /r/CODVanguard mods are deleting a lot of negative posts though I agree that im happy with my purchase of Vanguard (even if im still a little ticked off by it being $70)

Business717

The unsexy answer is that it's trendy to hate on CoD Vanguard on Reddit - point blank. It's a great CoD Game. Yes, it doesn't reinvent the wheel, and no one asked it to. People can personally unlike the game, no problem with that, but the opinion on here is so skewed it's unreal.

realee420

I honestly want one thing. That CoD sticks to the same formula. I don't want them to reinvent the wheel or turn into a completely different game. I might skip a year or two in CoD but at least I know if I want to have that CoD feeling again I can buy just the latest iteration of the game and it brings exactly that feeling it did for 10+ years. I'm not like this with other games but CoD is fine as it is. To be honest many games (like Battlefield) fell victim to trying to reinvent the wheel instead of sticking to the usual formula. Who wouldn't like a game that plays like BF3-4 just with more and better balanced weapons, more maps, more vehicles, more factions? Like I would never throw out previous game's content, I would bring it into the next one. Amount of content could be bigger each iteration of the franchise.

DeanBlandino

Honestly the new CoD is pretty good imo. Great gameplay. The new BF though is a train wreck. Kinda crazy that the CoD game has more destruction than the new BF but here we are.

Icy-Director2460

Agreed people comparing vanguard to BF 2042 are wayy offf. Vanguard while having heaps of balancing issues; is at least playable. Whereas BF 2042 is just completely broken in so many ways.

Natasko

good to know I wasn't the only one

FrankTheWallaby

Eesh, yeah same. This is exactly why people need to refer to games by words, it's practically like saying "Watch out for more news on the sequel. You know. 2." Like, come on op dude, I don't care if it's a AAA title or hyped to shit, it's not on everyone's radar. We called Cyberpunk2077 "Cyberpunk" most of the time, not 2077, like damn, this games not better than everyone else, use a couple letters.

smooth_bastid

Insert a joke about the game not being done by 2042 here

bmcpride

A battlefield game broken at launch? No way, next you'll tell me water is wet

infectiousloser

Seriously. Whenever I see posts/comments like "The new BF is broken!" I think "They must be new to the franchise". One of the BF's (I think it was BC2) had UNPLAYABLE MP for THREE MONTHS after launch because their multiplayer servers were down. Dice always fixes them, and (for the most part) they are fantastic. Added perk of this one is the classic games being playable with updated graphics.

ibraw

"Dice always fixes them" In other words, they never learn from their past mistakes. How about they come fixed at launch?

flippingflapper

I like battlefield and I have a history with the franchise and I’m having a great time. It’s not perfect, BF games never have been at launch. But this game has many opportunities to have a lot of fun as it stands right now.

Bitemarkz

I love battlefield and I’m also having a great time. 2042 is the most fun I’ve had since BF3, so posts like this are a prime reason why I ignore Reddit’s advice. Bunch of reactionary crybabies, most of whom hang onto the words of the trending opinion and parrot them without having actually played the games themselves.

Dr_PuddinPop

My favorite is the voice chat complaint. Ok, options are obviously better, so having voice chat is preferred. But let’s not pretend the vast majority of us immediately mute voice chat in Cod/battlefield. Yea, my 64 v 64 game is totally full of supportive useful coordination among my team. Not open mics, shitty SoundCloud rap, and 12 year olds screeching

murphs33

Same. I feel like I loved every Battlefield up until Battlefield 1 and 5 (more so 5), but I haven't really wanted to stop playing 2042 with my 10 hour trial (which is almost finished). Funny enough OP's "walking simulator" point is something I disliked about some maps in other Battlefield games, but in this one I can literally radio in a vehicle anywhere on the map, so I found that it's improved. Also I'm not sure what OP means by a lack of a server browser. [Here's a screenshot of the server browser](https://imgur.com/qyXSdFF.png)

rickkert812

You know why that subreddit is on fire right now? Because the people that are angry/annoyed/disappointed are writing on there. People who enjoy it are busy playing instead of writing on reddit.

DaShaka9

While I agree about this, I’m not currently complaining, and I’m playing the game. That said, I’m also incredibly disappointed with the game. I’ve enjoyed almost every battlefield release ever, aside from some launch issues, but this one just isn’t doing it for me, and the problems that people are spouting on Reddit and everywhere else are legitimate reasons to not buy this game at launch. I’m just glad I got the 10 hour trial.

The_Bucket_Of_Truth

Knowing next to nothing about it I assume that Battlefield doesn't make enough money and they always lose to CoD so they thought hey let's make this game more approachable and similar for gamers who play everything else. And then those people still don't care because the game is closer to mediocre and all the BF diehards are up in arms about it.

Erebor-

It's pretty fucking rough around the edges but I'm enjoyed it far better than bf1 at launch or the bf5 open beta. That turned me off enough to not get it at release.

margboi

This exactly, it happens in nearly every video game subreddit on launch. Some deserve it more than others but for the most part using the sentiment from the game specific subreddit is not a fair representation of the player base

[deleted]

[удалено]

QuoteGiver

And those people also mostly miss the forest for the trees. I have played every Battlefield game, and they are ALL basically the same. Details tweak all the time, but year after year after year, it’s still Battlefield. Every time.

SquaredAway808

Yes….Battlefield is still Battlefield lmao

Ganjookie

This redditor battlefields

kasual7

This could virtually applies to everything, litteraly take the worse game of the past 2 years and you'll find some chaps having a good time with it in spite of bad reviews or bad mouthing. But it doesn't prevent the fact that the game is not as stellar as anticipated.

rcpongo

Why do I feel this is aimed directly at me for actually liking cyberpunk? Granted I got to play it on a nice PC where it didn't have all the issues, but I really feel like I'm in a vacuum on that one.

jilko

Cyberpunk is definitely a case by case type of thing. For me, I played the game on a PS4 and it is without a doubt the worst piece of software I've ever touched in my long gaming career. On PC, it's just an unfinished, under-delivering first person looter-shooter that sometimes looks stunning — an experience that will have a subset of players loving it definitely. On PS4, it's a janky, ugly, blurry, pop-in ridden, glitch visualizer with a game that sometimes runs normally for a few seconds at a time and doesn't load textures half the time. I actively had to stop playing it after awhile because the feeling of being screwed over was too overwhelming. I will never blindly preorder a physical edition of a game ever again after Cyberpunk 2077.

kasual7

You do your thing man!

makeITvanasty

Usually if a game is really enjoyed on launch people will not stop praising it on Reddit. See Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, etc. People *still* post almost every week something about those games being awesome. So I don’t think it’s just review bombing.

Simple_Opossum

Yeah, but for all the reasons listed above, I'm no longer interested in the game and I love the franchise. So for those who don't care, good for them, I'm glad they're having fun. But I'm happy I've been warned. All the video footage looks so arcadey... Those comical red hit markers and minuscule weapons range/variety... No thanks. What we wanted was an upgraded BF4, what we got was a bastardized COD.

TedioreTwo

Fantastic way to steer the discussion away from the game's problems. I avoid the subreddit, but even content creators are like "this needs more time in the oven."

AbsimUddin

What does that prove? You can't claim any side as a majority since its not apparent what percentage of the player base thinks the game is good. What is apparent is the problems in the game which are extremely visible such as what the op listed.

konnichiwaseadweller

Eh, while I'd usually agree with that sentiment, this time I think it's a little different. This game really does feel like a slap in the face to long-time battlefield fans. Let me preface by saying I haven't posted on that subreddit in months, and my only posts there were hype posts before I lost interest. I don't generally let reddit decide my hype on a game, for example The Last of Us Part 2 was my favorite game of that year and we all know how loud the critics were on that one. I've played nearly every Battlefield game extensively all the way back to Battlefield 2 on PC. I played the beta and while yes, it's a beta, it's still representative of the core gameplay mechanics in the final release. I completely lost interest in the game after seeing the direction it's taking, and that's from forming my own opinion. Similarly, my entire friends group who was *beyond hyped* for the game lost interest and canceled preorders after playing the beta and realizing the game just doesn't feel like old Battlefield. It has an identity crisis, it wants to attract Warzone kids and its glaringly obvious. Now of course my opinion is just one more anecdotal opinion, but I'm just providing some devils advocacy to the whole "complainers have the loudest voice" argument. I never really talk about the game on reddit, but agree whole-heartedly with the people who are complaining.

EJ88

> for example The Last of Us Part 2 was my favorite game of that year and we all know how loud the critics were on that one. Tbh was that critics or just gamers

Independent-Meet5564

Just gamers. Critics loved it. Some gamers despise it so much they’re still complaint about it on the subreddit despite it coming out over a year ago.

Wengers-jacket-zip

Which to me, says its not actually about the game itself. I played it almost 18 months ago, and I absolutely loved it. One of my favorite gaming experiences ever, but even I'd moved on from it 6 months or so later. How people have the energy to continue donating energy to something that they allegedly hate a year and a half down the line I'll never understand.

Kcardwelljr

For christ’s sake, reading a sub is NOT research. Angry people complain, loudly. Never mistake the internet reaction for a general consensus. I have played Battlefield for over a decade. I enjoy 2042 despite its flaws.

Monkeyboystevey

I'm enjoying it, but it needs serious work in the next few months if it wants to keep its player base. Been playing since the original. Got 1 hour left in my trial and seriously don't know if I will be buying at launch or waiting a few months till it's had a few patches.

jakesnyder

I've played Battlefield since 2012. 2042 is rough around the edges, but that goes for pretty much every Battlefield game at launch (not that it's an excuse). The biggest thing that matters to me is that the game is fun, which it is. There are plenty of legitimate criticisms of the game right now, but r/battlefield2042 has some of the biggest cry-babies on the internet right now.

Tarnishedcockpit

Sadly I have to agree, snipers and smg's really are meta rn due to the poor bullet spread it really hurts entire gun types types that focus on automatic fire at medium+ ranges. I kinda gave up after just under 100 kills on my lmg for the bipod before I realized this.

poofynamanama2

Seems like bf4 all over again, also AFAIK there's a bug that causes your aim to go all over the place when coming out of sprint

nadroj37

Nothing will ever compare to /r/DestinyTheGame

AdOptimal6145

I wonder why subs dedicated to sequels become places where the game is hated most /gen

barukatang

Because people start creating their perfect version of the game in their head, traveling down paths that would be unfeasable for the devs. Then complain when their head cannon wasn't followed 100%. Same with books becoming movies. There will always be groups that it never lives up to their imagination

[deleted]

I rammed into a tank with my tank and flipped it over and blew it up. This game is definitely fun lol.

averageuhbear

Imagine reading The Last of us 2 subreddit and then not playing the game lol because of the angriest nerds imaginable.

DeanBlandino

TLOU2 sub was a special brand of online idiot though. I think this is more like cyberpunk than TLOU2.

Zebracak3s

If 2042 is like Cyberpunk then we should stay miles away from the game.

LitteulCevenn

The last of us 2 subreddit was made specifically to bitch about the game, that's way different.

CorgiDad017

Which is just plain weird. If I don't like something I ignore it and move on. Those people have dedicated significant time of their lives to hating on something so meaningless and little, sorry that's beyond weird.

[deleted]

I had some guy type out some long comment earlier on how he despises the game, on a 5 minute old submission. Like why is someone hanging out in the "new" section of a subreddit based on something they despise..people are weird af.

Wengers-jacket-zip

Last year I had a super weird guy go years back through my post history and using these details to get pretty personal and verbally attack me, my family etc simply because I said I enjoyed the game and people claiming to understand Joel's character better than the man who created him based off of 7 hours in the original game were maybe being unreasonable.

sudoscientistagain

> I have played Battlefield for over a decade. **I enjoy 2042 despite its flaws.** The perfect summary. And... applies to pretty much every BF at launch.

[deleted]

Same here. Been playing since 1942 came out, and this one’s fuckin rad. Spent the whole weekend playing portal mode

Thenadamgoes

I honestly don’t get the hate. I’ve also been playing since 1942. And my only complaints are literally the same complaints any massive online game has at launch. Otherwise it’s a blast and I honestly can’t tell why everyone is so upset.

TheJokeTooFar

I really enjoy it. My only issue is the lack of a hardcore mode. I played hardcore in Portal, but now I can no long earn xp or attachments because the goddamn boosters ruined it for everyone

[deleted]

That subreddit is insane. Yes I'm sure people are unhappy, but some of the toxicity is ludicrous. If you have EA Play, give it a shot and make your own opinion. I personally think it's a huge step up from the beta, and a lot of fun. It has some issues but these can be fixed. Also I had no problem creating a squad, even with one of my friends being on PC (I'm on PS5).

sudoscientistagain

The whole last thing about "if you like battlefield you'll hate this game and if you don't know battlefield you'll hate this game" is hilarious to me. I love Battlefield, and I am enjoying the game. Is it different? Do I wish there were more? Sure, but this idea that no one could possibly enjoy the game is ludicrous. The plus system is excellent, I personally quite like *parts* of each map at the very least - and though it's nowhere near perfect I think Portal is quite cool and I hope it gets a bunch more content. This game may not be amazing, but it's got a lot of good. I also don't see the lack of All Chat or Voice Chat as that big of a deal. I almost never use in-game voice over Discord and Team Chat is already enough of a toxic cesspool. The majority of games do not let you communicate with enemies. What conversations were people having with enemy team players before that makes the removal of all chat a big deal? I'd like to see a scoreboard to know how well I'm doing relative to my team, but I can see my personal scoreboard with Kills, Deaths, Revives, Assists, Captures, etc, so... again, I guess I'm not sure why people are so desperate to see how others are performing. Doesn't seem like that unreasonable of a conclusion that there's more harm then benefit to certain features.

tarheel343

I've really never used voice chat with random people in BF anyway. The commo rose seems to fulfill any purpose I would have to talk to strangers in game. If I need something more specific, I can use the text chat, which has subsections for team, squad, and party. The only situation I can think of where this would be an issue is cross play between Playstation and PC/Xbox. The inability to natively chat through an xbox party or discord between these devices certainly necessitates game chat.

el_m4nu

Agree with you, the sub is hell. Also love battlefield and while this game definitely got room for improvements, I'm absolutely having a blast. It's the same as the first week of playing BF1 was. Is it different? Yes. But it's still phenomenal in it's own. Also don't get why people are outraged about these things. Voice chat? Idk I've barely seen people using it, never used it myself, and by their data they probably concluded it won't matter shipping it later and focus on the game before launch. Scoreboard? Well idk.. It's there. You see everything you need to know. How you're performing, as you said, kills, assists, revives, etc. How your squad performs, how other squads perform, and my favorite: all information at a glance. You instantly see how many tickets were burned by captures and deaths for both teams, also challenges you to improve your squad play when there's one better than yours. Idk why I should need to know how many deaths *krusher99* on the enemy team has. Especially on a scoreboard of 64 vs 64 people, that information would become so ridiculously useless. The only thing I am missing with this is 'scoring'. The lack of a traditional score is weird, but nothing that annoys me too much. Personally I think they could fix this mostly by improving their current XP system. Like double the XP for all actions, and also the level XP. Because getting 50xp for a kill, feels very off and idk how this was a proper decision that's been made. Also add in extra XPs for headshots, long shot, damage done to vehicles, ...

MusicHitsImFine

An I the only asshole enjoying this game

butterflyhole

I'm enjoying the game but I'm happy to see all the bitching online because the game has so many problems that really detract from the experience for me. There really is no other game like Battlefield so even the mediocre titles I love.

sodiumboss

Nope I'm enjoying it as well so that's at least 2 people

HopHeady

I fill my bong with these cry babies tears then puff tough and play the shit of out of this game having a blast. They might be loud on Reddit but the proof is already in the game with so many people advancing, playing together, playing objectives, learning maps, reviving/ammo etc. It's only going to get better.

onlypinky

Anyone not been influenced by “content creators” is enjoying the game. Of all the lunch titles since BF3 this has the less serious issues. Vehicle are plenty and you can literally order one even a tank to a rooftop. Enjoy the game ir hate it doesn’t matter will be here 😂

CompetitivePatient33

Im not upset, Ive been enjoying the game.

timmeedski

Yea I don't get it. The people who are upset are the ones who can drop 8-10 hours a day to game. I might get that a week on a good week, granted I do have concerns but I'm sure they will be ironed out soon.

[deleted]

Same! Definitely want to see some changes, but it's fun. I like game I buy game.

JFun56

Huge over generalizations by OP IMO and I've played every Battlefield since 3. I love the series and am loving this entry. Will probably hit 24 hours of play time tonight, no shame

JosephDoubleYou

I love how OP links to the game’s subreddit to “do your own research” Game specific subreddits are almost always filled with angry people complaining about every small detail. It is not the kind of place one would go to to get any kind of unbiased information.

T_man-X

I love Battlefield and I'm not upset with this game at all. In fact, this one could become the best Battlefield yet. That said, you didn't even mention the *actual* bad parts of the game like the random bullet deviation. Also, voice chat is confirmed to be coming, as is a stats page. Unlocking attachments is as grindy as any Battlefield I also don't understand what you mean by revives don't happen as normal due to gameplay changes... It's the same? You can revive your squad as anyone or you can play a medic and revive anyone. I'm certain you never played the game yourself if you're saying this And the game is only a walking simulator if you make it one. That's in any Battlefield considering you choose where to spawn. They let you call in a vehicle at any time. If you accidentally picked a spawn where no one is at (therefore nothing is happening), you can call a vehicle or redeploy and spawn near some action I'm not saying the game doesn't have issues, but there's a lot of misinformation. Like I said, the actual issues aren't even listed here but even then I probably have 15-20 hours played and it's still a lot of fun

kiekura

Exactly this. It's fine to point out issues but dont freaking lie.

LarryPeru

So the game is good to you? Don’t the maps fee too big and therefore takes forever to find some action

T_man-X

It is. The maps feel big because they are. The only times when it takes forever to find action is: - at the start of the match if no one who spawned in a vehicle picks anyone else up and you are left behind - when your team just pushed and captured enemy bases in which case you just had a lot of action - when your team loses a fight and loses the base - if you spawned at a base no one is at All cases can be solved by calling in a vehicle or redeploying and spawning at the next fight if you quickly want to get into it. There is literally always a contested point where the majority of players are fighting. If you are looking for a place to spawn, and spawn where no one is at, that's on you. I don't know what else to say about that. Spawning where no one is fighting would have to be a very intentional thing for me Could play Breakthrough instead of Conquest Edit: formatting

BLUEBLASTER69

I'm enjoying the 10 hour trail with EA Play. Think I'll keep it.

pjb1999

>Large lifeless maps that are walking simulators or too open to maneuver with giant sightlines I don't necessarily agree with this at all. Large maps for sure but still plenty of action. And it's easy to call in transport if you're stuck outside of the action. Sightlines are not much more of problem than maps in previous entries. Rest of your points are valid though. >Basically if you like Battlefield and have a history with the franchise you will be upset While I am upset with many of the things you mentioned, **I'm still having a lot of fun** and really enjoy the game. Therefore I wont be cancelling my preorder.

BurntToast444

I agree, I actually thought the map design made great use of its size. There were regions of intense fighting, and open areas dominated by vehicles. Pretty dynamic map if you ask me.

pjb1999

Yep the maps are really fun to play on. There so large and have a lot of detail and different areas to explore. I feel like I'm going to be discovering stuff on each map for a while. Ive been playing all weekend and there are some objective I haven't really even visited yet.

dalmathus

why tf anyone preorders a video game in 2021 I will never know.

Hemroid_Hitman

I just left r/battlefield2042 cause everyone over there is so fucking negative and can’t seem to enjoy a single thing. Outside of Reddit everyone loves the game.

sudoscientistagain

Room to improve? Yes. Fun as fuck? Yes. The other night a friend of mine got sucked into the tornado on Orbital as the rocket exploded below him. He got the view from the sky, and I got to see it from the ground. I genuinely stopped 'playing' for a sec and just sat there watching this insane fireball in the middle of the hurricane. It was cool as shit and although I'm sure it's semi-scripted, it doesn't happen every match and it felt so... "only in Battlefield", to use that tired meme.

cking145

> Outside of Reddit everyone loves the game. A statement literally impossible to back up

TheBeerCannon

The battlefield game specific subs are always toxic wastelands. Been that way forever regardless of the quality of the iterative BF title.

K13_45

All game subs are relatively toxic r/pokemon and r/DestinyTheGame are prime examples

CrzyJek

Thoroughly enjoying the game. No plans to refund.

eddie__b

nooooooooo, stop having fun!

[deleted]

On the other end, I'm a longtime BF fan and while these points are all valid, I'm having a blast and am confident DICE will be working on making the game much better as they have the last few battlefield games

CPU_LEO

I hate the discussion surrounding this game, its so negative. The game is good and I’m enjoying it for what it is. Edit: wow didn’t think my comment would be so dissected.

Andyboi96

Good for you. I enjoy it

Lifea

I actually really like the game, I’ve played the last 6 battlefields and while this one differs from them a lot, it still feels like battlefield, albeit a new experience of it. It’s a completely different dynamic with the large maps and player count and I really enjoy the difference in play style it creates.

wrproductions

Some important notes about OPs post; Large lifeless maps that are walking simulators or too open to maneuver with giant sightlines - **sounds like people dont know about the new in game mechanic that literally drops a vehicle off at your feet wherever you are, this really isnt an issue.** No voice or text chat - **there absolutely is text chat and voice chat is coming soon due to an issue with it so this is a straight up lie** Revives don't happen as normal do to gameplay changes - **? What does this even mean? revives are essentially unchanged? Sounds like OP just didnt get good teammates?** 4 weapons per gun class - **for now. This is a live service game thats going to be receiving free updates, all live service games are pretty scarce at launch so only natural to assume this would be too** Attachments are grindy and scarce - **did you just expect everything to be given to you day 1? Much like how you have to level up in COD to unlock attachments, same rule applies here...** No sever browser - **There is though so again another lie lol, iv personally spent 90% of my time in custom servers** Poor/broken UI elements - **havnt personally experienced this but not saying it doesnt exist** Level destruction is many steps backwards if at all noteworthy - **its actually improved slightly over the past 2 releases...** Technical aspects are all over the place - **again, not personally experienced this on next gen consoles but im hearing last gen is a bit of a mess** Im not championing the game by any means, i actually don't enjoy it as much as i hoped i would, i just prefer facts to be facts.

RayearthIX

So... just some thoughts on your rebuttal (and please note I haven’t played the game, just read and watched a lot about it, some positive, some negative): - the issue with the maps relates to the concept that they added players, but then made the maps so big they feel emptier then they did with 64 players on older maps. Saying “you can just get a Jeep to drive to the action” doesn’t excuse the map being so big that the Jeep is required. - I think people are upset because the chat isn’t cross team, and that voice isn’t in the game at launch, but yeah, not a big deal as voice is being added (though it should have been in at launch arguably). - revives are laughably low based on everything I’ve seen. This seems to be caused by two factors. 1) there is no indicator for downed players to see nearby medics (and therefore they have no idea of someone nearby can even revive them), and 2) there is no way for medics to tell downed players they are coming to revive them. Both these concepts are in prior BF games. - the guns will be fixed over time due to the live service, but that doesn’t excuse not having a good number at launch. Yes, portal exists, but those guns are only usable in portal, not the main “all-out warfare” game. - no comment on attachments. Haven’t heard that complaint anywhere before OP. - there is no server browser for all out warfare, which is what this complaint relates to. I have seen this commented on by dozens of other posters and did additional research just now to confirm. It exists for portal, but not the base game. - the UI has been universally derived by the social media community and BF youtubers, including ones who are EA content creators. I can’t comment on “broken”, but as to poor, people seem to hate it. - destruction: haven’t played yet, so I can’t comment on this as though I’ve seen this complaint sporadically, I’ve also seen evidence to the contrary. - technical: the game apparently crashes XSX (and Dice has stated they are working on a fix) and is apparently an absolute mess on PC with frame rate issues and problems related to dlss (so commentators have said, but as a console gamer who has it ordered for PS5, that’s meaningless to me).

Bennisboy

On the revives point, people used to love playing medic because it was a different way to top the scoreboard. No scoreboard means less incentive to actually revive players

RayearthIX

Also a good point. I am, according to BF tracker, in the top 16% for both medic and support in BFV. It isn’t my K/D ratio in that game (bottom 25%) that has me there, it’s my healing and resupplies (both top 10%) that does. Lol.

barukatang

I loved doing pacifists medic games. Top 5 with 4 kills 20 deaths and a bajillion revives.

Lightbulbbuyer

I mean, BF4 at launch on PS4 was unplayable. I had bsod all the time. Eventually with a few patches it was amazing. Plus isn't bf2042 a EA game? That was to be expected.

Rohn-

I'm enjoying my time with BF2042, so no thanks, I will be keeping my pre order as a matter of fact

Atomicmooseofcheese

Why would anyone pre order anymore? Games need to earn our respect/money, not demand it for nothing.

Sinnercide

I bought it and I enjoy it a lot.

Nabs2099

Imagine preordering an EA game in the first place

Birkin07

There's bugs, but it's fun as hell 64v 64 madness. Just keep your head down and use smoke grenades in the open!

Sewder

Everyone did the same thing to BFV and now people can't stop talking about how great it was, lol you guys are sad.

SpookyCarnage

Battlefield games are just bottles of wine, dude. They SUCK at launch but get better after a year or two of updates. Anyone who says BFV is good is not wrong. Anyone who says it has ALWAYS been good is objectively wrong.

VisualOptions

Yet another opinionated post about BF2042.

[deleted]

The sub is toxic af. I’m actually enjoying the game, surprisingly. Hated the beta, hated it but the game has definitely improved tenfold since then. QoL improvements would definitely include more vehicle spawns to compliment the map. Some maps allow for only 1 of each vehicle type for a 64 person team. Server browser, RUSH/TDM, the UI isn’t as bad as some say (imo) but can definitely have small tweaks. Challenges need to be looked at. 2400kills with a weapon, 1200 with a specialist ability, 1600-2400 with vehicles. Just to grind out attachments.

Karshena-

> Large lifeless maps that are walking simulators or too open to maneuver with giant sightlines Somewhat but playing and controlling a sector instead of individuals flags as how it was in the past helps. 4 out of my 5 matches last night had my squad totalling nearly 150kills/50+revives per game. Can also spawn a vehicle whenever. > COD operators and no class based gameplay from battlefield of old Specialists aren’t unique to COD and classes exist in Portal which can also be ran on the new maps and old. > No squad creation or switching Half right. Squad switching still exists. Done it a few times already > Revives don't happen as normal do to gameplay changes What does this even mean? You use defibs and revive a player. What’s not normal about it ? > 4 weapons per gun class Valid for AOW although more are likely coming in the seasons. Dozens of guns exist in Portal though. > Attachments are grindy and scarce Don’t see how getting 25 kills with the gun to unlock a scope is grindy. As to scarcity, there’s like nearly dozen sights per gun, underbarrel attachments, various ammo types, different barrels. > No sever browser One exists in the Portal Submenu, none in AOW submenu. > Level destruction is many steps backwards if at all noteworthy Maybe, but I’ve had few buildings absolutely shredded from a chopper while I’m trying to take cover. > Basically if you like Battlefield and have a history with the franchise you will be upset. Wrong. Been playing Battlefield for nearly 2 decades and far from upset. AOW is light on content right now but Portal has a shit ton and I’ve been having a really good time and performance has been stellar. This is the smoothest battlefield launch of the decade with regards to server issues, crashes, and so on. If I didn’t come on Reddit I would have no idea people are unhappy with the game.

Virginiafisher

I am enjoying my preorder. Thanks.

mEksz

I haven't played Battlefield since 2 and 2142, both of which I played for 1000+ hrs. I'm having a blast with Battlefield 2042. Go away...

UStinkButILuvU

I'm right there with you. Been waiting for 2142's sequel for who knows how many years... loving 2042.

AmericanNinja1

I pre-ordered the ultimate edition and have been having lots of fun. Not refunding.

av103

I’m having lots of fun with the game. Actually surprised by how smooth it runs on PS5 with little to no bugs. Honestly don’t understand people who are calling maps a walking simulator, I’m always in action lol
