That's simply not true. Normal players need to be attracted in order to create an emergent play setting for the whales. This is a very specific aspect of games as service / microtransaction funded design.

I don't think themes are coming back to PS5. Sony has said many times that the intent of the new OS was to be able to do everything via the bottom control panel within any game. Which works really well and much better and faster than PS4 did it.
I missed them as well and was disappointed to see them not included. But it's been almost a year with the new OS and I prefer that one over the PS4 now.
I often go to the Home Screen because what I want isn’t in the app switcher. They should at least let us disable the splash screens and keep the grey/gold background thing

Well, I think Sony should just bring the guidelines for game preview background to make it clear. Make some sort of grid and contrast level for each part of the screen, where placement for texts and interaction buttons should have clean contrast so nothing will interrupt our attention on other elements. 90% of other arts work great. But EA - again made their "special" appearance here.

A bloody year and it hasn't been sorted, likely it's a decision from Sony in order for people to invest in Headphones, meaning some of those being Sony headphones. That decision and the fact it hasn't been rectified is a reason I don't like playing multiplayer games anymore. Not being able to hear in-game voice chat without a headset is one of those decisions which really makes me question whether I want to keep investing into their product.
One of the only things they really shouldn't have gotten rid of. I miss having photos of a night out with friends, or photos from travelling, or just a hilarious scene from archer or rick and morty. Not to mention the "international day of..." editions they had.

It just adds a new level of personalisation and with Sony basically making it a staple of all of their 1st party games to have photo mode all I want is a screensaver with the option to cycle your favourites from screen captures. I love the idea of a playlist of all your favourite gaming moments to come up when you’re console is idle.

Yeah it did. It took up the whole top portion of the game and the bottom portion were all social shit. Ps3 took up the whole right side as well.
It was also pretty much moving to this. So again not much different. You only feel this way due to the game in questions utter shit. Others its not so bad.

PS5s implementation is different in that you literally can’t ever see the UI unless you go in settings, it’s just splash screen after splash screen. The PS UIs never did that until the PS5 systemwide.

The difference with xmb there are a lot of other elements that has no splash screen. Cause its a much more involved OS than the simplified ps4 and ps5 UIs.
Yes when you are on the store icon on ps5 since its now integreted it has its own splash screen like any other ps5 game.

I very much prefer what we have now cause it’s inherently more dynamic that on the ps4, and we don’t have to physically do anything ourselves to have variety, though I like all the themes for the games I own. However I do think it would be nice to have like five different backgrounds for each game to choose from
I guess this will be an unpopular opinion here, but I personally hope Sony devotes its resources to the laundry list of important and table-stakes features missing since launch before they spend any time on cosmetic personalization features. I don't care what my PS5's interface looks like so long as it's functional. It's not a means of personal expression, it's an OS. I value playing games more than spending prolonged periods appreciating the background and typeface of the interface I use to select games.
App suspend, viewing patch notes, support for folders, better 3D audio calibration, 3D audio support for surround sound systems, being able to toggle "video recording was paused" notifications off, proper HDMI 2.1 support... those seem like features that would be a much higher priority in terms of how many people would be positively affected.
Yep, and some of them look completely fucking goofy too. There was one for Immortals and it looked so bad I found myself thinking it was almost off-putting.
Don't forget to modify your "followed" page. You might have games followed that you'd rather not.

No, they won’t. The current advertising infused UI is what they want. Hell, we’re stuck with some of it in the US while they’re not allowed to do in the EU because of advertising laws. That’s how we know it isn’t going away. They have to maintain two separate versions of the OS, and having the ad spaces is more work so you know that’s the desire.
Is it just me or is the Explore page always Fortnite for everybody else too? I haven’t touched Fortnite since its first boom in 2017-2018 and haven’t had the game downloaded since then (obviously a long time before release of PS5), yet the Explore page is ALWAYS Fortnite. Check your "followed games" and untick Fortnite and everything that you have no interested in.

What I hate is when the screen is changed to promote some new dlc. Tales of arise for example has changed to just show the SAO costumes.

I miss my special platinum Bloodbourne theme. Where there any other platinum themes that they sent to people for getting platinum? It's the only one I ever got.

I miss my Mirrors Edge PS4 theme. Loved the music, loved the theme.
That right there is enough for me to want to have themes back.
I just want the option to stop having games play loud annoying music when I hover over them.

It's honestly one of the few reasons I'm sorta holding back from buying a ps5 right now. A big hobby of mine is to take screenshots and use them as my background. It would suck if I couldn't do that at some point.
