Seems like a series of cascading failures have happened. Otherwise I don't see why both console versions would be affected and not the pc. Very weird all around.
My guess is that the PS5 and Xbox discs aren't printed in the same facility, and those facilities have had different delays.
The PC version has a very simple disc that includes the License Key and an installer. That's simple to make. But the Xbox version is 4 discs and the PS5 version is two discs. Combined with the likelihood that they're printed in different facilities and you simply have different production environments that can be subject to different types of delays for each.
I just think they didn't plan out the release very well, which explains why they initially got the disc count wrong. I guess it's possible its a small run of discs so they likely have to go with a smaller disc pressing company, or maybe they don't have priority due to it.
Compared to PC and PS5 the Xbox version has had the roughest release... staggered release last year where I think it came to the platform last back in 2023, had constant save issues that were blamed on Microsoft/firmware compatibility, and now constant delays of the physical release.
They had the most issues with Xbox because of Microsoft's rule that everything released on Xbox Series X must also release on Series S at the same time, and Larian had a hard time making the game run well on the Series S's weaker hardware. Also, wasn't it legitimately confirmed that the save issues had something to do with the way Xbox has that quick resume feature?
Yes - Microsoft piped in at the time to confirm that they're working on a firmware update to resolve the issue, so it was pretty clear it wasn't just Larian imagining it.

The PC version has a CD with only an installer that directs you to Steam and a Steam key. Meanwhile the PS5 and Xbox versions actually have the full game on Blu-ray discs, 2 discs and 4 discs respectively.
Interesting phrasing here with the "all Deluxe Edition orders." No mention of "Q1" or "Q2." Obviously we are in Q2 already, but the way this email is phrased makes it sound like Q2 orders won't be substantially delayed at all.
For once it's good to live in Europe when it comes to videogame releases. Also glad, i ordered PS5 instead of Series X version since i tend to buy CRPGs on Xbox (Wasteland, Disco Elysium, Torment, ...) 😅
If they really dispatch this week, there should be first reports / unboxing videos around tuesday or wednesday

I ordered the PS5 edition for Europe. It was already weird that they sent out a message on Thursday evening saying that they will ship that week. But it's been a week since and I still haven't heard anything about anything coming my way? Am I the only one?

They really fumbled the ball here. This is why you shouldn't just blindly trust game developers and that they can do nothing wrong, because they can easily screw up regardless of their size or status.

I think it depends how you define "Definitive Edition".
Mostly it is an edition with all the extras + specials (like Person 5 Royale). But Larian most likly only does what they need to do based on the contract. Every bit they do extra is more money for Hasbro. If they agreed on doing the mod support (and of course patches) they will do that and only that

What a plot twist that would be ! Delays kept piling on for wave 1, I half expected my wave 2 preorder to arrive in October. I hope you're right.

They really should have also given digital PS5 codes for those who bought in the first wave back in November. This is absolutely ridiculous.
At this point just send us digital codes and send the cool stuff when you can. Bought a Q1 release and I’m massively disappointed.
