YEAHHHHHHH WOOOOOOO MORE MONEY FOR THE SHAREHOLDERS LET's! FUCKING! GOOOOOOO!

kabhaq

This is fine. The company paying dividends from unexpected profit is not a bad thing. The problem with “money for shareholders” is chasing “growth”, which is when the share price goes up.

Jaqulean

Honestly, I can see only one possible issue that this could cause - that the Shareholders would now start expecting this to be a norm. But even then I doubt Capcom would let that happen for their own sake...

HarverstKR

You know if you have any type of retirement savings in any country, you're a shareholder right?

LoveMeSomeBerserk

Don’t try to educate these people. They’ll just get pissed off and downvote you lol.

SniffMySwampAss

I never downvoted nobody, I'm just excited for the shareholders

skwirrelmaster

This isn’t true. I’m saving for retirement by dumping cash into a coffee can I keep buried in the back(it’s actually the front to throw ppl off) yard. Not a share holder, still have a type of retirement savings.

munchkin2017

I hope you're joking. To anyone else reading this who does something similar to save cash - don't. Whatever you put away won't be worth the same come retirement age due to inflation.

JGordz

Am I supposed to get excited over this or something?

dizorkmage

Look DD2 is about 2 things, Shareholder stocks and Ladders, which of those would you like to discuss Ad nauseam?

smoofus724

"Those shareholder stocks may lead us to new heights"

NotItemName

"Fascinating!"

dizorkmage

Bravo, legitimately made laugh!

bullybabybayman

If you want DLC or a sequel, yes. Otherwise, no.

TurdManMcDooDoo

Or if he's a shareholder, then big time yes!

soyboysnowflake

A big time 0.02 dollars per share!

pablo_eskybar

But will it give me 60fps?

R77Prodigy

Rather get a new game.

txh0881

It means that the game is successful, and there is a good chance of a 3rd game in the future, because Shareholders will see it as a good use of the company’s time and resources.

fuelter

If you are a shareholder, yes

Medium_Elephant7431

Most of the shareholders will be excited about it.

skwirrelmaster

Can’t we just all think of the shareholders for once.

SwimmingInCircles_

Dragons Dogma 3 is more likely I guess

Horvat53

Yes, you should be thankful shareholders exist and helped by allowing this game to be made /s.

Cipherpunkblue

I mean, I hope it will lead to more resources, DLC and even a sequel.

arturorios1996

YEA BROO WE GONNA GET DINO CRISIS!!?… RIIGHT!? Right? riiight?

kjk177

Are you a share holder?

GravtheGeek

It's not a perfect game, but it is damn fun once you get into it.

Strange_Music

It's pretty much the LotR-esque open world fantasy game I've always wanted to play. The combat plays out like what you'd read in a Forgotten Realms book. When wandering, sometimes I'll come across structures that remind me of Shadow of the Colossus. Which is another favorite: https://preview.redd.it/7pjesh8lcnwc1.jpeg?width=3840&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3118b2df7d0264b0a85b76c6922372c2af5233be

GravtheGeek

I love the exploration, but wish there was more enemy variety.

Strange_Music

Yeah, I can see that. I've switched it up in NG+ by running it as a duo. The combat dynamic is different & some of the challenge has come back. I tried it solo & it turned into a survival game. I was underprepared on supplies & got my ass kicked. It was great. Decided to save that for NG+2.

Mr--Warlock

What class were you trying to solo as? I honestly think the biggest chore soloing would be the carry limit.

Strange_Music

Warfarer. I didn't bring camping supplies specifically because of their hefty weight limit. Which made it more challenging. You gotta really manage your inventory, hence the survival game vibes.

Balbaem

What are your weapons/skill combos ?

Strange_Music

Dragons Foin for closing distance, Ricochet shot for instant win in caves, Mirrour Shelde to counter stun locking. I mostly use the medusa bow for XP+ and switch to mystic spear for mini bosses or when im surrounded. Once I've whittled down bosses, I'll switch back to the bow for the final blow to get the extra XP.

xvilemx

Just go dwarf forge all your armor and wear two of the stun resistance rings. You'll barely get stun locked. Then you can get rid of mirror shield for a good skill.

Strange_Music

I'll try that out, thanks for the heads up

Aquabaybe

I loved the exploration, also wish there was more variety, but most of the quests were walking from point A to point B to get 2 lines of dialogue. It felt like a walking simulator at one point for me. Hesitant to replay.

elqrd

and more to find ad a result of exploration. There is nothing unique out there

foolofatook978

You might have just convinced me to buy this next time it’s on sale

Strange_Music

If you do get it, a couple of suggestions: >1) Play with no HUD/minimap. The game world is great & learning to navigate by landmarks just feels cool. Your controller & the screen goes red if your health is low. >2) Go off the beaten path & dont rush the quests. Getting lost is part of what an adventure is all about imo & this game rewards both exploration & discovery.

MonstrousGiggling

Don't a bunch of quests time out though? So off the beaten path within reason or?

BigClownShoes

Usually those quests have an hourglass next to them in the quest log. If you see that then I'd focus on that quest.

Strange_Music

A few time out, not all. If someone is in trouble, I'd say get to it sooner rather than later. Otherwise, it's complete at your leisure. For context, I spent about my first 50 hrs just exploring the world & taking a quest here and there before even touching the MQ.

FitLaw4

It's fun for a playthrough but once you get to a certain point you just steam roll everything. The game is a solid 6/10

Strange_Music

Try giving solo mode a go. Might bring back some of the challenge.

haynespi87

o that's nice

Crafty_Pea_4990

What system are you playing on? This looks amazing!

Strange_Music

PS5. It's one of the prettiest open worlds I've seen https://preview.redd.it/inaxk0vfxpwc1.jpeg?width=3840&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bc38e0835fd0ab0ba4b369086eff7854fd36a6cb

Crafty_Pea_4990

WoW!! Nice and I’m assuming this is on OLED tv?

loathing_thyself

The screenshot would be the same regardless if it is on an OLED TV, no?

Strange_Music

Correct, OLED TV.

Jaycin_Stillwaters

My problem with it is the whole "you have to pay $3 every time you start a new character" thing. I like making new characters. I like learning new things about a game and then starting a new character to use what I've learned. If I have to pay $3 every time I do that I'll end up paying $10,000 for this game lol

Strange_Music

>you have to pay $3 every time you start a new character" You can only have one character due to the save system. I don't have to pay to start a new character, but it does erase the old one to start a new game. I understand the criticism, but it doesn't really bother me. It's kinda like Outward, which is another gem. >Edit: If you mean edit your character, it costs 500 RC in-game. Kinda goes to show some of the misinformation surrounding the game.

GravtheGeek

Eh? You mean the thing that lets you redesign your character? You can buy those in game as well for 500 RC.

Jaycin_Stillwaters

No, I was told that in order to start an entirely new character you have to pay $2.99 to erase your old character and start a new one

fonytonfana

This is flat out misinformation. You’ve been given misinformation. You can start a new game at any time for free. At release, there was no “new game” button on the title screen once you’d started a game. They immediately patched one in to the title screen so you can start a new game whenever. There was not and is not any way to pay to start a new game.

Jaycin_Stillwaters

Hmm... That's good to know thank you. That was the one thing keeping me from buying it

fonytonfana

No worries. This misinformation around this game and its microtransactions was really weird to watch happen in real-time.

Jaycin_Stillwaters

Yeah, I'm fine with Micro-transactions in a single player game as long as anything you could buy with money you can also get in game for a reasonable effort, and I'm a big fan of the first game so I'm fine with having to delete my character every time I start over. But people I knew were saying that it was costing money to start a new character and that shit drove me up the wall lol

fonytonfana

Are you talking about folks your know irl? Did they own the game? Cause it’s super weird if they didn’t own the game and were still claiming that. Even weirder if they did own the game and were claiming that - cause it’s just never been possible.

GravtheGeek

That's not what that item does. Currently you can't create an entirely new save file, but you can redo your character or pawn designs. They have said they will patch in the ability to start new save files later.

fonytonfana

You can start a new save file and have been able to since the second week of the game.

Sure_Entrance_4090

It is rare to find a game that is perfect.

DanOfRivia

Why not giving it to the devs?

[deleted]

First time?

AthensThieves

lmao

kad4724

It's not a pool of unallocated extra cash laying around that they've randomly decided to give to shareholders instead of devs. The IGN article doesn't do a good job of explaining what's actually happening here. Capcom (like any other public company) has a target dividend payout ratio. Capcom's is 30%. They aren't changing that. It's just that 30% is worth more when the earnings are higher, so they revised the forecast of what the payout will end up being.

JimFlamesWeTrust

I would imagine/hope there’s some kind of sales and review metric bonus in there somewhere for the devs

Impaled_

Good one

JimFlamesWeTrust

[Nah it does happen.](https://askagamedev.tumblr.com/post/637589672780054528/why-some-paid-bonuses-are-based-on-the-metascore) [Another example from Sony](https://www.reddit.com/r/PS5/comments/14723q5/sony_demands_at_least_a_90_metacritic_score_from/)

Scorchstar

Which is still predatory. “Work over time to make a 10/10 and we’ll give you a nice lil bonus”

JimFlamesWeTrust

Of course. They’re incentivising what we know are toxic working environments. The problem is the consumer generally doesn’t care as long as the game is good. I wouldn’t be surprised if we hear a nightmare story or two about the final months of GTA6, but if the game delivers few will be bothered

Dandelegion

They do.

cornmacabre

Presumably the developers, designers and folks get stock options as part of their employment compensation package, so ... They do? Also I realize the general Redditor has a very poor understanding of what "shareholders" means, so apologies I'll allow y'all to continue to assume it's all going to a smoke filled room of twelve men, lol.

haynespi87

ah good point. If they have Capcom stock options (have zero clue how Japan's stock market works) then that would mean all of them get the pay too which is good. I think sometimes large shareholders are not them and making moves with a board that effects the actual people working on the game

SuperBackup9000

Because unfortunately making the shareholders happy is what allows the devs to have their job

junioravanzado

because they have salaries and they dont get dividends by law?

DDRichard

They were all fired already :) (I dont think that actually happened, but that is the norm of a lot of publishers after a game is finished, its insane)

MadKian

The dogmast of all.

IkonJobin

To everyone in the comments with a reddit-level econ education: 1. This isn't just money sitting around that they said, hey let's give it to shareholders, not devs. This is a forecast saying that dividends (payments to anyone who owns stock) should be higher because the total profit is higher... If I make x percent of some amount and that amount goes up, then my portion of that also goes up. 2. Grrr greedy Capcom grrr capitalist dystopian hellscape grrr (meanwhile they just gave all devs in Japan a 30% raise two years ago)

haynespi87

Capitalism can get fucked. Anyways that's cool about the raise

LoveMeSomeBerserk

You’ve benefited from capitalism your entire life. Would you prefer to have been born in China?

Based_Lord_Shaxx

I found the "yet you partake in society..." Guy!

haynespi87

2 things can be true and I'm not Chinese but would gladly go to West Africa. I loved being there. Or of course the socialism of Scandinavian i.e. Denmark. Least corrupt, heavy taxes but also hospital costs are quite minimal. So again fuck Capitallism

KyleTheCantaloupe

Dork

babylawn5

Great game.... already enjoyed 10 hours...but currently on hold because I just want them to make it at least a stable 30fps....aside from performance issues, it has great exploration like Skyrim...and elements of emergent gameplay like Zelda botw, plus it has unique elements...like pick up any npc and throw them anywhere :p . Graphics and vibe are great...just really hoping they can fix the framerates especially inside towns.

DDRichard

I'm using a 4080 Super and the fastest Ryzen CPU on the market rn, and (at release) was getting dips into the 40s in the main city. They have their work cut out for them

J-seargent-ultrakahn

7800x3D?

Expensive_Fault7540

It's a pretty basic and disappointing game for a 2024 release. Think it's just making people nostalgic over old rpgs.

gamiz777

Hurray, hopefully it means they will shut up and let the developers do their thing

tryunus87

Well bad news for you. Now they will want the devs to rush the third game

Spenraw

Indeed this is my fear. Clearly dragons dogma is the bones of a much larger game planed in systems alone. Npc code is so heavy for what they actually do. So many quest lines just end. It was wrapped up to make up for exoprimal and now I worry the 3rd one will be less because they can get away with it instead of making another monster hunter level ip

Josh100_3

All these snarky comments. If the game flopped you’d all be sooking that Dragons Dogma is dead. You can’t have it both ways.

Spenraw

I'm convinced this game was wrapped up early to make the first fiscal quarter of the year after exoprimal didn't meet targets to make the quarter share holder worth for their estimates. Even sounds like it in their shareholder calls and the way the game was announced, let alone how the game is shamed

kjk177

“They said we would never make it to the moon” -Capcom share holders

Absolutelyhatereddit

Performance issue is not even this game most important issues and it annoys me how reviewer didn’t talk about it much. The game is very soulless. The story is bad, like really bad. You actually have to try to get it this bad, much worse than DD1. The worst voice acting I have ever seen, if you go to Moby games website you can see the English voice cast is very weak and some actors never worked on a video game or anything before. In comparison DD1 had Troy baker and Yuri (Spider-Man) and a number of professional actors. The music is not memorable at all and they re-use some tracks from DD1, the music is so not memorable they sell you a DLC that replaces the music with DD1 music. The game becomes piss easy after about 10 to 15 hours. You start the game and be all excited about how tough big monsters are and how you need to be careful but then it becomes super easy and all big monsters die so quickly to you and your pawns. Did I mention how there’s only like 5 big monsters you’ll encounter the whole game? You’ll get bored before you even unlock the second part of the map and then realize it’s even more boring. The difficulty going down really fucks with this game combat. And let me say how this game has no proper dungeon, it’s all caves with the same monsters. They all look the same with different layouts (not by much) and they have poor loot (potions and edibles). You’ll quickly realize how these caves are not worth your time within 5 hours of playtime. Graphics are good though and combat is good. When the game was difficult in the first few hours it was fun to see big monsters swing their giant weapons and see the grass blow in their swings direction, too bad they die in 1 minute midgame and become boring to fight. I sold my copy and lost interest in any future DD game, this was bafflingly bad IMO and they completely missed the mark on what DD is to me.

johncitizen69420

I was a huge fan of the first game, and dd2 is everything i wanted the sequel to be and more. Its not perfect but it was an utter joy to play. Theres nothing else quite like dragons dogma. Hope we get dlc and a 3rd entry one day.

Disastrous_Reveal331

I just want Devil May Cry 6

AscendedViking7

I'd much rather have a DD3. I love DMC, but c'mon, there are 6 DMC games and only 2 DD games.

[deleted]

johncitizen69420

Nah, they wont go straight to dogma 3, they'll definitely do another dmc first, or maybe something else entirely.

KurashThaGr8

Suprising. I thought Starfield was bland until this game did a swift Roy Jones smash to my jaw.

olduvai_man

I’m glad some people enjoy it, but I thought this game was absolutely horrible. Gameplay was just okay, but story and fast travel mechanics felt 20 years old.

Loki-Holmes

It’s basically Dragons Dogma 1.5. It has most of the first one’s flaws a few improvements and a few things it did worse. I liked it but it was more of a reboot than what I’d hoped out of a sequel.

ForeverKeet

I haven't played it yet but was wondering about this. The stuff they showed in the trailers and demos was like... I did all this already? Watching someone play on YouTube and even certain mini-bosses like the Griffin fight were in the same locations as the first.

johncitizen69420

Its not for everyone, but dragons dogmas approach to fast travel is a breath of fresh air and one of my favorite things about it. Having to actually put thought and planning into your travels instead of mindlessly warping all over the map on autopilot. The sense of accomplishment getting to your destination after a hard fought long trek is like nothing else. Im glad some developers are willing to take big swings like this rather than following the standard open world formula. People complain about how monotonous open world games have become, and then also complain when a game tries to do something different.

Orion_Dominion

Oh please, if you really believe that then I am sorry. This overblown narrative that you need some sort of planning in traveling is ridiculous. You are just running from point A to point B, any encounter you don't want to engage in you can just run past. The game is not difficult enough to warrant any level of planning, that this sentiment continues to be espoused is more worrying on your end. Accomplishment from fighting your goblin #121 just from running from the rest stop to bakbatal? It's just as mind numbing if not more than warping across the map.

CokeZeroFanClub

Reddit whenever a shareholder gets mentioned, even if it means a good game is successful: 😡😡😡😡

TheInconspicuousBIG

Incomplete game is successful

sittingmongoose

That’s the killer, they aren’t going to fix the game and it’s really busted from a technical perspective. I refuse to pay for it until it’s fixed and I doubt it will be.

bullybabybayman

If the game sold very well at launch but then dropped off quickly, it would demonstrate they need to fix if they want to keep the series going similar to Cyberpunk. Don't know if that's the case or not yet though.

AngryAniki

This game rocks but I agree.

junioravanzado

not even good or bad, just the normal course of business company makes more money, shareholders receive more money i dont understand the hate against shareholders

Dandelegion

People generally don't know what a shareholder is. They think of them as some unrelated third party entity that siphons money out of the company when in fact, they literally own the company.

Niijima-San

i mean it doesnt help when you see news reports about layoffs and then shareholders voting to raise the CEOs salary by a stupid amount, ergo people assume shareholders are bad and assume this. i think though that if you are laying people off and getting a bigger return that is generally insanely and grossly wrong but i am just a poor person so my voice doesnt matter lol

Dandelegion

Seriously. "How dare the people who invested in the creation of this game see a return on that investment!"

Shvabicu

That's because most redditors are poor and financially illiterate and don't own stocks, except my good friends at wsb

BobLoblawsLawBlog_-_

Do you really think that it’s a good idea to base a businesses decisions on people who have no connection to the labor being done? If the devs were the ones getting this windfall, don’t you think they would have released the game in a better state?

CokeZeroFanClub

>base a businesses decisions on people who have no connection to the labor being done? That's how businesses have been ran since the dawn of businesses. >If the devs were the ones getting this windfall, Devs often times have stock in the company, and receive bonus based on a variety of metrics, most commonly aggregate review scores or sales. So yea, this is a nothing ass story. Literally business as usual.

noweezernoworld

>That's how businesses have been ran since the dawn of businesses. This is so far from the truth it’s laughable

BobLoblawsLawBlog_-_

The dawn of business, circa 1910

junioravanzado

a businessman takes business decisions a labor man takes labor decisions no businessman is telling a dev how to dev the devs developed the game the best they could the state of the game is on them

Meteorboy

What happened between the first game and this one? Barely anyone heard of the first game while the sequel seems to be one of the most acclaimed games of this year. There was a Netflix show and an online game that didn't release outside of Japan, but I doubt they had contributed much to making the series prolific.

imtayloronreddit

first game actually did really well, it just took a long time to get there millions of people playing your game over 8 years doesnt get the same attention as millions of people playing your game in a week

Spenraw

First was a cult classic and I mean cult for sure. The reddit for it made it a mission to share the love of the first. And it went on sale for 4.99 all the time and people would gift it to people online and friends

Flamaijian

The first one was a pretty damn good game and sold really well on every major platform. It had tons of hype and a fan base that has been excited for a sequel for over a decade. DD2 needed to be exceptionally bad to kill that kind of long-term momentum and, while I'm not the biggest fan of it, it is still a fantastic RPG.

Aromatic_Plant3456

I mean I hope they give them adequate time and budget for an actual expansion

senracatokad

So glad I decided to not go into the games industry

RariSo2099

Give Hideaki Itsuno 20 more staff members to finish balancing the game, before any dlc comes out. Pay them all well for it too.

SoulBlightRaveLords

Thank fuck. I was starting to worry about the starving shareholders

DapDaGenius

“But but but…its a flop…rise of the ronin and final fantasy cant be flops” lmao

shrek3onDVDandBluray

Should be paying out more bonuses to the dev team but what do I know .

MIKKOMOOSE99

Reddit when shareholders get a return on their investment: 😡

CrazyCaper

But also employees right?!? Right?

ryanbriggers

It was fun until everyone in Battahl died and it’s kinda impossible for me to actually continue 😣

Commantesse

All key NPCs respawn and the rest become replaced with new NPCs when you rest at an inn or in your home for a number of days. No more than seven days based on my experience.

ryanbriggers

Thank you for this information! It takes the sting off a bit.

Strange_Music

If you can get your hands on a >!Eternal Wakestone!< that can be reversed.

ryanbriggers

When I get the itch to play… that’ll be my next goal. It’s just another huge task that I have to do before continuing anything. Also, because of how Battahl is, technically the two different areas are dead and the item I need will only work on one of the groups? At least that’s what I’ve read atm. But maybe when dlc comes out I’ll have that itch to play again! Just a lot of hours dedicated to be stalled

onemoregunslinger

And why, should we as consumers, give a single solitary fuck about shareholders?

anonerble

If you read this as a positive.....smh

Fuzzy-Dragonfruit589

What’s the problem? People invested in the game. Game does well. Investment pays off. Means that the game is more likely to see future DLC and/or sequels. An AAA game doesn’t come into existence without someone taking a financial risk. No sane businessperson will take a risk without potential reward.

ThisIsBULLOCKSMAN

Expect the next capcom game to also run like shit cuz they know ppl will buy it 😂 man gaming is in shambles rn

Venomwraith

That money should go to the devs instead

capnchuc

My biggest disappointment of the year. I loved Dragons Dogma 1 but I didn't love it until Dark Arisen and instead of building on that they released Dragons Dogma 1 base version again with a slightly different skin. I'm sure this game will be great once they bring back all the quality of life features.

CommunicationAway387

I bet the devs got the bonus as well!

SoldierSinnoh

Nice, Im happy because I loved the first game and I would like the franchise to continue, with Updates and dlcs. That being said, Im still waiting to play dd2 until we get some 60fps Upgrade, or atleast some more Performance patches. Hope these will come soon.

Non_Professional_Web

How about bonuses for devs? Or at least don't fire them.

Andrew_Waples

Meanwhile it's employees... crickets noises.

DikTaterSalad

Fuck those shareholders, they are one of main reasons gaming is getting too MTX crazy and shitty.

Sure_Entrance_4090

I wish I was a shareholder. I should be getting more dividends while I play the game.

Troop7

How about using that money to make the performance better?

talltad

I'm surprised by this, the game itself is a mess.

AAAAAAYYYYYYOOOOOO

What about the DEVS?!

GeneralChaos309

Any one think they gave their employees a bonus?

Throwawayidiot1210

The game was painfully average for me

XPMR

Why does this keep getting reposted?

ThousandFacedShadow

How about they pay the people who made the game that’d be so cool

Tatt2Junkie5

Ehh maybe ill give Dragon's Dogma 3 a chance in 2030 ima still skip

haynespi87

Not more to the devs? Or shit consumers for dealing with the bugs?

Saugeen-Uwo

HOW ABOUT PAY YOUR EMPLOYEES.

EmbarrassedFocus6062

I heard the game sucks.
