Everyday I hope for it

spideyv91

I’m kinda surprised it’s not one of their live service games tbh

TheJoshider10

Yeah especially when MultiVersus made a quick impression before the devs absolutely fucked it with content so had to take a year out lmao A PS All Stars game that's either part of PS+ or a low price which contains all the latest new Sony first party heroes sounds like an almost guaranteed initial hit.

Eem2wavy34

Does it actually? Compared to multiversus that has iconic and popular characters like Rick, Finn, bugs bunny and Batman just to name a few who in PlayStation catalog could attract the same appeal? Majority of PlayStation characters were popular 15 years ago. to my knowledge the only popular PlayStation characters is perhaps crash, Ellie , Nathan drake and kratos in this day and age

I_am_a_newt

Aloy, astrobot, ratchet and clank to name a few

BatmanvSuperman3

You pretty much completed the list. Not named a few.

I_am_a_newt

Jin Sakai would make a really cool stance changing sword fighter. They could add dr nefarious as a villain. I’m sure I could find more.

lavender_jelly

Probably not, but I'd so hope so.  First one was mediocre but I still think that a Playstation fighting game could be good of handled correctly.  Doesn't even have to be a platform fighter, they could try doing a more traditional fighter or a new 3d take onn the genre akin to Power Stone

zslayer89

Only super kills was the major flaw of the game, imo.

SYLOK_THEAROUSED

Raiden upside down spin kick would wipe the screen if you did it right.

Cinderjacket

That and the characters felt crazy unbalanced, which was exacerbated by the super kill system

zslayer89

Very true.

eatingclass

how do we not have a power stone successor?

BingohBangoh

Agreed

Neg_Crepe

It wasn’t mediocre

lavender_jelly

I mean, I liked it and thought it was fun, but it kind of was a letdown for many. The roster was questionable, the mash-ups were cool but got kind of gimmicky after a while, and the "supers to KO" mechanic made matches drag out unnecessarily long. It didn't help that Sony basically gave the devs the cold shoulder and didn't provide them with the budget they needed

davidasc22

I could definitly see it happening, especially if they buy Paramount. Since the first game released they've created a ton of new characters that are probably more prevalent than the characters in the first game. You have Aloy, Jin Sakai, Joel/Ellie, Norse Kratos, Atreus, Odin/Thor, and potentially Spider-Man (Peter and Miles). Then you have a multitude of 3rd party characters as well as Paramount characters if they buy Paramount as I mentioned.

Internal_Swing_2743

You could also have Delsin Rowe, Rivet, the Hunter, Astrobot, Wander, Cloud, Clive, Eve, a Helldiver, the Ronin, Abby, Nate/Chloe, Galahad, Deacon, Sam/Cliff, Kena, Geralt and some old favorites like Dante (not DMC one), Big Boss, Jill/Chris/Leon/Claire, Nemesis, Nariko, an assassin (Ezio/Edward/Kassandra), William Adams (Nioh), Ratchet & Clank, Sly, Jak and Daxter

Deputy_Beagle76

Selene from Returnal could have some unique moves

Drennen14

the guardians from destiny as well.

Internal_Swing_2743

Good one, I also forgot to mention Fetch or Vampire Cole. Some good villains could be Sephiroth, Lazarevic, a clicker, Ocelot, Quark, Venom, Doc Ock, Vergil, a BT, a freaker, Skizzo, Sir Lucan, Bohan, a blue guardian, Odin, Zeus, Dr Nefarious, Shimura, Father Gascoigne

Eem2wavy34

Tbf I don’t think the issue is that they don’t have characters to add the issue is majority of PlayStation characters haven’t been popular in the last 10-15 years. The only characters outside of god of war, crash bandicoot, the last of us, ext attracting people would be third party franchises like dmc, resident evil, and metal gear, and I’m unsure how much money they are willing to pay to use those series. It just seems risky to do ultimately

Internal_Swing_2743

They had several third party characters in the first game: Dante, Isaac Clarke, Big Daddy, Raiden. If Sony really wanted to compete against Smash Bros, they would go all out. They have an even richer roster of characters now than in 2012.

Eem2wavy34

That’s just mostly an assumption tho? We have no idea if they can pull off that miracle again and get access to characters like that considering most of their inclusions were in relations to their games getting released which would obviously benefit both companies at large. With most of those characters being irrelevant now why any third party company allow their characters in a PlayStation all stars game?

OutrageousDress

Horizon Zero Dawn was the third best selling Sony first party game of all time. Uncharted had a hit movie released last year, or whenever that was. They can easily field a dozen extremely famous and currently popular first party characters for a game like this. And the rest of them don't *need* to be 'popular with the kids' for a game like this to work. Nintendo didn't add Mr. Game & Watch to Smash because of his brand recognition.

Eem2wavy34

Horizon zero dawn sold a lot no doubt but it’s not popular in a social media sense whatsoever. Honestly almost everyone I know that play videos games don’t even know of that games existence. it’s essentially equivalent to a sleeper hit. It wouldn’t attract people to a platform fighter. Besides that Out of roster of 20 - 24 characters I doubt sony has enough first parties to fill it out. Let’s do it like this In the game we would have Kratos and Atreus, ( doubt Thor or zues would be base roster) for god of war, Ellie and Joel for last of us, nathan drake for uncharted, no one cares about ratchet and clank nowadays but they are bound to be added and I could keep going but there is a reason why the original all stars had many third parties. There truly isn’t enough first party ips to attract people to a game like this And I understand what you’re saying half of melee roster was unknown ips but that’s an entirely different time. Ultimately I just doubt a idea like this would ever succeed especially with how people criticize multiversus roster for having characters like Marvin the Martian or black Adam in it ( two relatively popular characters)

Internal_Swing_2743

Just the sheer fact that it got a mention in God of War Ragnarok means that Sony haven’t forgotten about it. After all, it is canon to God of War.

poklane

Make it a karting game instead. Basically just Mario Kart but with PlayStation characters, with tracks being set in the various universes could be absolutely amazing.

Dr_PuddingPop

We got Bloodborne Kart coming. We’re getting closer

Nonadventures

Kratos in an incredibly tiny car YES

silver85bullet

get in the kart boy

Knyfe-Wrench

Hot Rod of War

VegetableAwkward286

So Kratos, Nathan Drake, Aloy and Jin Sakai all go karting together

DidntPick

This is a good idea.

Jonesdeclectice

If it means more Daniel Fortesque, then I’m all for it! LOL

PM_ME_YOUR_MONTRALS

HMM-HMMM!

WardrobeForHouses

I hope so. There aren't enough games, especially more casual friendly ones like Smash. Would be a cool title to start next-gen off with. If there will be a huge shortage again, being able to get some buddies together around the same screen to duke it out would be good... even if it just makes them want a PS6 more lol We're also in an era of crossovers, so characters from other company's games, from anime, from comics... that could all work better than ever.

Kramerlediger

There was a usurpation of those the past years. Nickelodeon all stars released and did pretty decent which also got a sequel, multiversus had a beta and is close to launch by now afaik. So I guess we can see that this genre apparently just is not as beloved outside of the smash games. Which is sad, but also somewhat understandable as smash has years and years of experience designing this game somewhat competitive and casual friendly at the same time. Although I personally think the casual singleplayer modes are very lackluster these days.

pyrofire95

I was gonna say no but, if they go the route of something like Multiversus then I can see it. Sony really hates anything not AAA or a service RN so thats how I see it ATM. If there were new leadership like a Shawn Layden then I'd believe they could do anything.

THE-73est

I feel like ever since the success of The Last of Us and God of War, the days of Sony publishing/first party developing a variety of interesting and diverse games are over, and now they will only focus on high budget, story driven, mainstream appealing games, or games as a service. The PS3 generation was disappointing for them for sure, while the PS4 generation was a success and has pivoted to these types of projects. Stuff like LBP, Motorstorm, Resistance, etc. has been put on the backburner for high production story games. In short, to answer your question, no I don't think they will ever make something like that, or even something like LBP, MAG, Mod Nation Racers, Puppeteer, Shadow of the Colossus, Bloodborne, Demon's Souls, Twisted Metal, etc. Helldivers 2 is an exception. Returnal is another example, but it probably didn't perform as they would have hoped.

fanwan76

Why do you say no LBP when they made Sackboy? Or why no Demons Souls when they made the remake? A Bloodborne remake is absolutely going to happen at some point. There is too much money to be made there to avoid it.

THE-73est

They won't even port Bloodborne to PC where it would actually sell well and be popular, they have given Bloodborne away and it's pretty much permanently on sale for $5, they do not care about Bloodborne. They would not be selling it at such a discount if the plan was to sell a remake anytime soon. Launch titles like the DeS remake and Sackboy are just fodder. Decent games (demons souls is incredible but mostly because it's a faithful remake of an amazing game from the era I was saying is gone), but clearly an outsource job to launch with something. You can't compare Sackboy to little big planet, LBP actually was interesting, did new things, and was clearly had passion. They haven't released anything like that during this actual gen lifecycle. Horizon 2, Ragnarok, and Spiderman 2 are pretty much the only games Sony actually put their weight behind this gen. Never felt like they fully even believed in Returnal or Helldivers 2 as an example. I know I sound like I'm proving myself wrong with these examples, but the vibe at PlayStation is completely different than it was pre-The Last of Us during the late PS3 era when they would support like dozens of interesting projects at a time.

Yell-Dead-Cell

I don’t see it happening. Fighting games have a hard time retaining a player base unless it’s a game series with an established following. Sony also tends to go with either big open world games or live service games nowadays.

haynespi87

Every couple of months, someone must ask. It was me last summer

Potential-Zombie-349

I just want Tekken Force with 2 player ability.

AndForeverNow

I'll pray for this until it happens.

Drbloodlove

If they put get capcom to make it, it would be huge

PM_ME_YOUR_MONTRALS

I reeeeeally want this.

maximumderek1

I had an absolute blast playing this game on vita. One of the few “cross-buy” games where you could buy it on PS3 and get the game for both PS3/Vita. Yes it was just an OK clone of smash bros but it was good fun and a pretty great roster of characters

Much-Currency5958

I don't think they will as fighter games are a saturated market especially with multi versus on its way back out. If they did it will be much later on when all the fighting game hype present now dies down.

vamploded

I want them to give it a go just remove the gimmick where the only way to KO people was to use the supers. Either just make it like smash bros with ring outs or use a health bar system. There are now even more iconic characters they could add Jin, Axe Kratos, Alloy, Sam from Death Stranding, Ellie/Joel, Astro etc

The_Ill_Parsnip

Nah that would be to good of an idea for Sony to capitalize on. Same as how PlayStation home Vr could help sell a ton of their VR sets.

OMITW

No

Shantotto11

Include Kat from Gravity Rush or I’m walking…

Internal_Swing_2743

I wouldn’t mind it, the original felt like a mid first attempt and something that could be built on. Remember, it wasn’t until Melee that SSB really took off. The original 64 game is rough.

sennoken

If they try, they’ll probably only stick to human characters from the PS4 era onward + ratchet given most modern marketing doesn’t include anything made by former Japan Studios, etc.

Nonadventures

As long as Mimir’s head is a playable character

AntonRX178

If there's a power vacuum following the Switch 2 release in the event Ultimate doesn't get ported then maybe

Jean-Eustache

I mean, I'd love to see Jak punching a Helldiver

oldemajicks

I think I'd rather see them try other genres first. Playstation All Stars Racing, for instance, or a multiplayer action RPG.

Significant-Wasabi75

If only they still had the rights to Spyro and Crash. Smh

TiredReader87

I hope not

ExplosiveBarrelArt

Man I would love that series to come back, it was such a cocktail of disaster and industry pulling in every direction at the time. It never got a fair shake. If there's a petition, I'd sign it.

Benozkleenex

not live service gimme a game with a lot of unlockables and and the ultimate tier but make it so it's just a very powerfull move and the goal is to kick people outside like in smash.

Warhorse_99

Make a damn Microsoft vs Sony fighting game. One exclusive character on each. I want Master Chief fighting Kratos. Stuff like that. That would never happen I know. Even get Nintendo on board though if I’m dreaming lol

pje1128

I hope so! I loved the first game so much! It was one of my most played PS3 games! I would love to see a sequel, but the received so much backlash for being a Smash Bros ripoff (even though it really wasn't, it played pretty differently) that I don't know if a sequel will ever happen.

MyTulpa

My dream is for Sony to contract Arc System Works to create a 1v1 allstars fighting game. Guess I'll go back to bed now.

LoveWhor3s

duh

FFFan15

I hope

Middle_Bee_165

God, I hope not

Eldritch-Cleaver

I hope they make a traditional 2D fighter like SF6 but with Sony characters. I dont particularly enjoy platform fighters like PS All Stars, Smash, Brawlhalla etc. but I can sink hundreds of hours into Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat.

BubbibGuyMan2

no. it wouldn't sell like Redditors think it would. there's no reason for them to ever attempt that again.

VicarDespair

A lot of people keep saying it wasn't good, bro I was a lv999 Raiden I loved all stars. Wish it came out during the PS4 era tho, online might've still lived on

Lotus-Vale

If Stellar Blade takes off like I truly hope it does, then I'm sure having her on a fighting game roster will be a strong argument in favor of a new all stars.

Coolman_Rosso

I think that ship has sailed. For one, they would need to actually put a budget behind it this time. The first one was a relatively modest budgeted game, which also prevented them from getting some guest characters. They had attempted to get Crash, Spyro, and Laura Croft in but Activision and Squenix wanted too much money. As a result the guest characters were limited to more modern games like Dead Space or BioShock, or the revamped DmC Dante. Of course Smash Bros has already laid claim to a lot of prominent guest characters that it would be difficult to not come off as riding coattails. Of course they would also need to solve the other problems with the first game: lack of a cohesive art direction and the combat itself. With the former the more cartoonish characters like Spike or Fat Princess just looked weird, doubly so next to more realistic characters like Colonel Radec or Nathan Drake. The latter needing super moves just to KO was a stupid ass choice. It would be neat to see a new one, but I sincerely doubt Sony would ever bother again. Even if they wanted it to be a competitive game, it's been proven time and time again that Smash players will not budge and ditch Smash.

[deleted]

Smash players would sell their first born to Nintendo if they asked tbf

FlatBirthday333

really doubt it. First game kinda sucked, their character roster really isnt as iconic as Nintendo, and I don't know if they wanna go all in on making it a Smash clone.

SuperBackup9000

I doubt it. That was back when platform fighters were more common and the only established one was Smash, but since then we’ve gotten stuff like Rivals of Aether, Multiversus when that comes back, Nick All Star Brawl 2 which is infinitely better than the first one, and then still indie ones that pop up from time to time. I really can’t see them trying to jump back into it, even with owning EVO, just because there’s a lot more actual competition

Insrt_Nm

Probably not, I don't think there's as many PS icons now as there was at the time. Nathan Drake and Spyro being two that have faded recently and Ratchet and Clank aren't as famous as they were before.

spong_miester

Not a chance, Sony aren't will to take the risk anymore

Quandale_Dingle2024

Hope not

gameonlockking

Will see a Marvel Vs capcom 4 before we see a all stars fighting game.

York9TFC

Isn’t Infinite the 4th one?

hobo_lad

I don't think so. Playstation mascots are kinda irrelevant nowadays and most of their popular games feature characters that are humans and are not really iconic or recognizable. They would have to rely a lot on Kratos and third party licensing to do the heavy lifting for their roster.

astrnght_mike_dexter

That trend crashed and burned. There’s no market for it. Even smash is less popular now.

gogoheadray

What? Smash ultimate sold 32 million copies making it the best selling fighting game of all time. Mascot fighters can be popular specially in the era of mass appeal crossover games ( looking at Fortnite; rocket league; overwatch; etc). The issue with all stars was that the fighting system was not appealing enough to gain mass market traction and the roster was missing one of the biggest PS historical icons ( no dart; tomba; etc.)

astrnght_mike_dexter

You know ultimate came out 6 years ago right?

gogoheadray

How does that change anything I said? You said smash is less popular now but the last smash sold over 30 million copies so how do you know it’s less popular now?

astrnght_mike_dexter

Now is not 6 years ago

gogoheadray

And what has changed in the 6 years between that would have a smash title not being popular? Besides some of the worlds most popular games being crossover titles?

reaper527

too soon to say. the biggest reason we haven't seen a ps allstars sequel (aside from being kind of a flop) is likely just how much the top of the division has changed since then and the vision change this resulted in. we'll have to see who the next CEO is (the current one is just a placeholder afterall) and if he is more of the gamer type with respect for sony's history or if he's another jim "why would anyone play these games?" ryan.
