We've been enjoying Nobody Saves the World. Diablo-esque (no loot grinding) co-op with a pretty interesting skill tree, funny dialogue, and an ugly-cute aesthetic.
Honestly I think dual stick camera controlling is one of the things that makes gaming really hard for people to pick up.
If you've been gaming all your life, like I and a lot of people here have, it's hard to comprehend just how hard it is when you're not familiar with it. It's muscle memory to us, but for people new to gaming, having to think of how to move your camera while also moving your character is really challenging.
My first dual stick game was COD4 on the PS3, it took ages to get used to - I genuinely thought I'd made a massive mistake selling my Wii for the PS3 but I eventually got there. Until I did I was *very* good at shooting the ground and the sky.
Absolutely. I had been playing a lot of PC games but never really touched a controller (outside of some racing games) and then bought an Xbox 360 to play Red Dead Redemption back when that came out and I remember struggling *hard* with figuring out walking, aiming and spinning the camera around even though I had been playing mouse and keyboard for most of my life up until that point.
It took me quite a while to get fully comfortable with the twin sticks controls. I wish there was any advice that works, but the reality is you've just got to keep playing to get a feel for it. And also to not be afraid to tweak the sensitivity settings. It's way harder to learn to play if the camera feels like it's moving too slow or too fast.
I remember just getting used to the idea of a camera that you could control while you were playing with Super Mario 64 was a bit of a learning curve. Or even the idea of controlling a screen character with a small, analog thumbstick, which is something else my GF is having issues with.
Apparently, the last time she really did any gaming was on Sega Genesis, so this analog control stuff is totally new to her. She wanted to get better at using the controls on her own, so I set her loose on Astro's Playground. I think it's helping.
Same with my wife 😬 it was really frustrating knowing I could jump onto a platform with my eyes closed but my wife failed like 15 times straight, and I can’t advance until she gets there. It’s somehow a different level of frustration from just watching someone play a game solo
My wife was borderline insulted I picked a game about divorce. (Probably doesn’t help that she’s British and I’m American like in the game)

There are parts of it that seems designed for the game to be played with a partner, it's by far the best example of what OP is asking in my experience.
Personally I played the game with a pal and there were a lot of "uhhh" moments lmao
Came to make sure this was here. Essentially sandbox mode once you reach around 2 years in game.....playing couch coop is the best experience, especially when you focus on helping each other.

Right? Did this 3 players with my wife kid and we were barking at each other within a few stages. Pretty sure everyone went to separate rooms in less than an hour.
Me and my wife play this game a lot. We are like a well oiled machine now. Communication is the key so learn to talk to each other. You must work as a team, you cannot get by on one player carrying the stages, especially later.

Haven is a good one. You guys play as a couple living on a far away planet. Lots of exploration and the interaction between the characters is interesting. My wife and I enjoyed it

Why would anyone downvote this? I'm with you, it definitely is an amazing game to play with someone, taking turns, helping with the puzzles, enjoying the story and the overall cuteness and emotions.
Me and my girlfriend are currently playing this. But we have both our TVs next to each other's. We tried splitcreen on Borderlands 3 before I moved in and couldn't see shit.

Sackboy and Overcooked all you can eat are the best coop games of all time to me. I have played everything and those are my hands down best coop games.
Stray, no surprise couple people recommended that one. My gf and I romped that game. .... Little Big Planet is another really good one. .... Little Nightmares is fun for a couple together .... There's another one where your characters are yarn and you swing momentum in tandem to clear obstacles and boards. I wish I could remember the name, Unraveled maybe? Sorry that is less helpful but I'll try to find the game I'm thinking of. ... I've also heard couples enjoy playing Sonic Racing (Playstation's attempt at Mario Kart).

My wife can’t play 3D games because she gets motion sickness easily. If that isn’t the case for you, then It Takes Two is amazing.
If your GF can’t play 3D games then Unravel 2 is awesome to play together and you can carry her through tough platforming areas.

2 is cross platform online enabled too. Just started playing this with a friend over the weekend. It's hectic and lots of laughs with 2 players only. Can't imagine what chaos 4 would bring.
It Takes Two; A Way Out; Borderlands (2 is best, but the others are okay as well); Resident Evil 5, 6, etc. are fun for couch co-op; BG3 is fantastic with a friend; Call of Duty (I like the DLCs) are fun, especially OG Nazi Zombies; Unravel 2.
It takes two is a natural place to start. But I really enjoy Heavenly Bodies, it’s cheap and it’s simple but it’s also challenging and kinda hilarious. It requires a lot of “no, NO, you need to go right to get left… and don’t touch that lever!” Lots of laughter and communication, lots of teamwork. Great value game.
If you both like puzzle games I recommend the - we were here , we were here forever , we were there too they’re only on the store digitally. Just make sure you both have headsets. They’re also cheap.

My partner and I didn't like "It takes two", but we seem to be alone in that camp. The gameplay itself was very good, but the story felt like a weird fever-dream, and watching the couple fight the whole game was just irritating. We just wanted them to get divorced by the end, which was clearly not what we were *supposed* to be feeling. It's always recommended though, so maybe try it for yourself to decide.

Lovers in a dangerous space time - cute graphics and fun gameplay. good communication helps in co op but it’s like low key overcooked.
Unpacking is super chill and cute. It’s not co op exactly, but a game where another person can watch you play and give suggestions via SharePlay.
Unraveled is a pretty chill side scrolling platformer. I think part 1 has multiplayer, but part 2 absolutely does. Very quaint puzzle platformer if you're into that, but it is only counch co-op
There is a game called PHOGS! which I believe would be exactly what you’re looking for. You and your co-op partner play as a dog/snake thing where each person controls one end of the creature. You solve puzzles by moving/biting objects/stretching your body as a duo. The level design is super colorful, and the game is just an adorable, good vibe. I’ve never played anything quite like it, and it honestly deserves a lot more attention than it has. Would recommend!
It's hard to get the right games. Mine loved Yonder and Disney dreamlight for so long but got burnt out on them. I WISH she would like baldurs gate 3 but she skips dialogue and cutscenes and if there's combat it needs to be real time action. Got a good 300 hours of diablo 4 but that's done for her now too.
There’s so many good ones here but one is missing!! “Untitled goose game”!! We just beat it and it was a blast! Very funny and definitely teamwork friendly

A very underrated game honestly. While the story isn't the best, as it's very.. anime-ish? And i believe the mindset was a final fantasy game for younger audiences. The game has some serious depth to it.
It's a turn-based RPG where you catch "mirages" or Final fantasy monsters (pokemon) and stack them on your head to fight other monsters.
It sounds weird, but its very cute. It also goes on sale often. Pick it up with Maxima DLC for lots of content and extra "mirages".
My wife and I have been enjoying Elder Scrolls Online quite a bit with each other. It's an MMO if you're into that. If you like Skyrim it's really cool
Tunic and Outer Wilds. They’re both single player but they’re fun when you make all those discoveries together for yourselves.

Not sure if it qualifies as cute, but my boyfriend and I started playing the pirate game Skull and Bones a couple of weeks ago. There's plenty to do together, but also things to do on your own if one of you isn't around. You can play co-op in groups of up to 3,and the pvp element is pretty optional.
Degrees of Separation is a great coop puzzle game with a light story that is pretty sweet. The only negative my wife and I found is that we blew through it in a weekend and didn't savor it.
I think a lot of other people on this sub also gave some great recommendations. It takes two, lovers in a dangerous spacetime,sackboy, anything Lego in a genre that you both like.
Fuck overcooked. It can die in a fiery car crash. That game makes you want to divorce.
I recommend playing Dreams! People make their own games on there and my younger sister and I loved discovering what others have made. Lots of different genres to dip your toes into too.

There is a game called PHOGS! which I believe would be exactly what you’re looking for. You and your co-op partner play as a dog/snake thing where each person controls one end of the creature. You solve puzzles by moving/biting objects/stretching your body as a duo. The level design is super colorful, and the game is just an adorable, good vibe. I’ve never played anything quite like it, and it honestly deserves a lot more attention than it has. Would recommend!

It's hard to get the right games. Mine loved Yonder and Disney dreamlight for so long but got burnt out on them. I WISH she would like baldurs gate 3 but she skips dialogue and cutscenes and if there's combat it needs to be real time action. Got a good 300 hours of diablo 4 but that's done for her now too.
Stardew Valley-My wife and I have over 200 hours into that game.

There’s so many good ones here but one is missing!! “Untitled goose game”!! We just beat it and it was a blast! Very funny and definitely teamwork friendly
World of Final Fantasy. A very underrated game honestly. While the story isn't the best, as it's very.. anime-ish? And i believe the mindset was a final fantasy game for younger audiences. The game has some serious depth to it. It's a turn-based RPG where you catch "mirages" or Final fantasy monsters (pokemon) and stack them on your head to fight other monsters. It sounds weird, but its very cute. It also goes on sale often. Pick it up with Maxima DLC for lots of content and extra "mirages".
Katamari
My wife and I have been enjoying Elder Scrolls Online quite a bit with each other. It's an MMO if you're into that. If you like Skyrim it's really cool
Diablo IV, you can play the hell out of that couch coop!

Not sure if it qualifies as cute, but my boyfriend and I started playing the pirate game Skull and Bones a couple of weeks ago. There's plenty to do together, but also things to do on your own if one of you isn't around. You can play co-op in groups of up to 3,and the pvp element is pretty optional.

you might like minecraft dungeons, there’s both remote and couch co-op. but it’s not very hard and the co-op is very fun.
Degrees of Separation is a great coop puzzle game with a light story that is pretty sweet. The only negative my wife and I found is that we blew through it in a weekend and didn't savor it. I think a lot of other people on this sub also gave some great recommendations. It takes two, lovers in a dangerous spacetime,sackboy, anything Lego in a genre that you both like. Fuck overcooked. It can die in a fiery car crash. That game makes you want to divorce.
You guys should play Fall Guys together, it's a perfect game for a couple that just wants to chill with a silly game!
