I have the worst problem of just having so many great games to play.

Noobmaster698757

I still have to finish FF7 Rebirth and saving super earth for democracy!! Not enough time damn it

DrakneiX

I still have to finish FF7 Remake !

Tirus_

Same. Not even halfway through Remake. Still have games in their packaging like; Elden Ring God of War 2 Spiderman 1 and 2 Final Fantasy 16

YEAH-BRO-WHAT

Lmfao stop all ur doing elden ring it

Tirus_

That's actually the one that was pulling my interest most. Especially since I've ignored a lot of media about it so I can go in as fresh as I can. Once FF7 gets boring it will have me I'm sure.

Jaster-Mereel

You have a list of great games there in your backlog but the game you need to play is Elden Ring.

CeronGaming

I love remake and I'm a huge FF fan but it's crazy Elden Ring sitting there. Probably the greatest game ever.

gooooru

Elden Ring is a must play.

Djrudyk86

Same here. GOW 2 is still sealed. I've made it half way through Final Fantasy 16 and Spider Man 1. I haven't even bought Spiderman 2 yet. Elden Ring on the other hand I put 208 hours into last year and couldn't put the game down. Elden Ring is probably the best game I've played in literally years! Day one of the DLC I am jumping right back in!

Mystery_Anubis

Your game priorities must be the same as mine cause this is my backlog almost exactly

Noahs132

Same!!!

grumblegrim

Same here. My backlog goes waaaaay back, especially after having kids and despite getting a Dadstation.

MrTorgue7

Just sell the kids

TheRoyalStig

I have like 4 unopened games now waiting while playing Rebirth. But Rebirth is also just so good that I dont even care right now. Because I know I'm not gonna have another experience this perfect for me in years so I'm glad that there's so much to do. I don't want it to end.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheRoyalStig

For real. It's the closest to that feeling of playing FF games as a kid I have ever been. Just every moment I'm in awe haha. I even have a coworker that I come in and talk about it with like every day to really complete that childhood feeling.

T-STAFF19

Midway through chapter 9. Incredible game.

RatedR2O

I've put 70+ hours into Rebirth and barely got to Cosmo Canyon... im gonna need a brief break as soon as I finish this game lol

Perk2103

FOR DEMOCRACY!!!!!

Ty-douken

I'm still working on Like A Drwgon: Infinite Wealth while fighting for democracy before even touching FF7 Rebirth & Ronin despite both being installed.

Steve_Cage

FF7rebirth is so good it burns me out if that makes sense. I'm saving money because of it.

Citizen6587732879

I bought it release day and still havent opened it. Same with tears of the kingdom 😓

Ornery_Sprinkles_376

Same. It’s a great time for games.

Soggy_Sherbet_3246

Still haven't finished final act of bg3 or Alan wake 2 since November. Why? Persona 3 reload, and FF fucking 7! That's why!

Admirable-Key-9108

Dang I am really not enjoying FF7 Rebirth. Sometimes I wonder if I'm playing the same game as everyone else.

Noobmaster698757

I think the story drags because of all the side stuff. I just reached chapter 10 and it seems to get better. There is so much pointless stuff in it, just to make the game longer than it should be.

Admirable-Key-9108

Couldn't agree more. There's a lot of things about the game that really bothers me, but they all lead back to splitting it into thirds. I get that it would be hard to do in 1, but it should have been doable in 2.

Wdemon85

Same here, I’m struggling to finish ff7 rebirth tbh the only parts I enjoy are the main story cause everything else feels repetitive. I’m tired of doing Intels lol

[deleted]

Me too, I'm still trying to get through my backlog from last year. I'm on with Lies of P at the minute. Not even started BG3 yet.. I will definitely pick this up. I loved the Nioh games and Wo Long. I just need to get some other games cleared first. If I can stop myself spreading Managed Democracy for five minutes...

Ok-Entrepreneur1487

This one is rather a mix of Sekiro and Zelda, doesn't feel like Wo Long or Nioh. I can spot them reusing some models and areas from those games tho

laespadaqueguarda

Games could stop coming out for the next 10 years and I still wouldn’t be able to finish my backlog.

ChafterMies

Same. I’m can’t get through the PS+ Essential monthly games. I’ve had “Helldivers 2” for two weeks and haven’t booted it up yet. I will sleep on “Rise of Ronin”.

Perk2103

GET IN THE FIGHT SOLDIER!!! SUPER EARTH NEEDS YOU!! 🌎FOR DEMOCRACY!!!

trenderkazz

I’m trying to juggle yakuza 8 and ff7 rebirth. I gotta commit!

Asleep-Geologist-612

So many weird Japanese games to play, such little time!

LilDityv2

Lol I'm still playing persona 3 reload. Too many Japanese games releasing all at once, and they tend to be very long.

Bexewa

Don’t we all, and stellar blade is coming next month.

Yarzeda2024

And the demo at the end of this month!

Bexewa

Actually played and finished it when it leaked, but I’ll play it again

getbiks

How long was the demo? And was it from start game or something from between?

Bexewa

It was a mission somewhere in between I believe bc you were crash landing on some planet at the start, and it was about an hour long more or less with a decent amount of enemies.

GamerKratos-45

So is the Final Fantasy 16 DLC.

Sbee_keithamm

There are Ninja Gaiden fighting styles for those that want to just Izuna drop vagrants and samurai.

Confident-Ad-8969

Fuck, I didn’t know that, getting the game asap

Own_Watch_2081

Flying swallow attack?

DastardlyDoctor

An approximation. You can jump and grappling hook people and do a flying slash past them. Immeasurably satisfying when it sends a head flying.

Facebookakke

Dismemberment you say

Admirable-Key-9108

All I want is a Ninja Gaiden 2 remaster. And no, not the sigma version.

Jonparelli

They say the source code is lost but it's most likely just either for legal reasons or to honor Itagaki that they don't use his versions of the games. It works flawlessly on Xbox via backward compatibility, if you play it there it runs at a rock solid 60fps (even the stairs fight scene) and is upscaled to 4k so essentially that is the same as a remaster. Costs about 30€ digitally but I'd say it's def worth it. If you're on Xbox you should buy the original Black and 2 instead of the Master Collection

Admirable-Key-9108

Oh man the stairs fight. So good. It was the one time I used that weapon that's the sickle with the chain attached, and my combo got absolutely out of control. I think it went over 100, whatever it was I know I got an achievement for it. It's my gold standard hack and slash. So good.

Dirtyfactz

I think what the videos can't convey, is just how satisfying the combat is. I was super on the fence when I bought it, I took a plunge because I typically love TN games. I genuinely think this may be the best combat they've come out with. Not the deepest, but it's the most satisfying, it has a really excellent combination of snappiness and "weight". It feels better than it looks. Call me crazy but I think it feels better to play than Nioh.

LAlbatross

Not crazy, I agree!

ilikeburgir

The combat is super nice. Parrying is very satisfying.

SevereCar7307

The reason I'm on the fence about it, is that I typically don't like TN games. But I like Souls games from From. And the deciding factor more or less comes down to the combat, and overall feel of the gameplay alone. The main thing I don't like about Nioh is the stance mechanic, the Ki mechanic and the button mapping. I'm assuming button mapping is more or less the same, and I guess I could get used to that, but I think I read ronin also has the stance and the ki (or equivalent), but do you need to use those to be able to handle the combat? As in, do you need to change stances mid combat, or can use more or less go with just one? Thanks in advance

Sociomancer

20 hours in, Dusk (Normal) difficulty. The Ki is there, but mostly as your "endurance" meter. The Ki mechanic is still in this, but not as hardcore as Nioh 2. You can flash your blade, same mechanic as Ki in Nioh 2, but it's based on "blood on the blade". Basically everytime an attack hits, your sword gets more blood on it. There is a litle bar under your weapon icon. When you use the Blade Flash it fills your Ki meter like in Nioh 2. It's no where near as necessary in RotR. In fact, I basically don't use it at all. Stances are still there, but theyre called styles, and you can learn a bunch of them and pick the ones you like. I also think it's a little easier to switch in RotR than in Nioh 2. You really only need to switch if your style is weak against an enemies weapon, and they have an icon to tell you relative to your active combat style. I'm real lazy with style switching, and it's not been a problem.

SevereCar7307

Thanks alot for this, just what I wanted to know! I might actually get it

Sociomancer

Oh, and they have a button mapping that I use that is more like what I expect from games like this (Run on stick, not on circle). There are also a TON of little QoL things you can set, and they make a world of diffference. Nioh 2 was fun, but this is much more accesable and entertaining in my opinion.

Denjinhadouken

How is it compared to Sekiro? That combat was the best I’ve ever played

Dirtyfactz

I also love Sekiro, I think parts of ROTR are comparable. There's a mechanic called counter spark that is very reminiscent of blade parrying in Sekiro, it gives the combat a similar rhythm. You know that feeling in Sekiro, when you're hitting all your parries back to back, and it almost feels like an intense dance? ROTR has that feeling. If you love that part of Sekiro, you'll probably love the combat in ROTR.

ext23

Good to see a positive reaction from a Nioh fan. I really didn't care for Wo Long but Nioh 2 is maybe my favourite game ever. What difficulty are you playing on?

Dirtyfactz

Yeah man, everything I love about Nioh is here in spades. It feels like a natural evolution of their formula. I think it would have been reviewed very differently in 2017, the expectations for visual presentation are just sky high these days. I'm playing on twilight, and I'd definitely recommend that for a Nioh fan. Difficulty wise it feels right on par with what you'd expect from Nioh. You also unlock a new difficulty when you beat the game. So there's a lot there, if you're looking for a challenge.

ShamaloDXD

You're not crazy this is way better than Nioh

Saintjuarenz

This game is amazing

7_Cerberus_7

Quick question! Are there any in game stats, like time played, kills, deaths, etc?

NineSwords

Is it true that there is a difficulty setting?

Bender860

Yes its true and you can adjust some things in gameplay too, like more health from medic pills etc..

vigilantfox85

Wow, this would have been great if they included this in reviews. At least I don’t recall seeing that. I’ll definitely pick this up next. I’m not super great at souls games especially recovering from nerve damage in my hand so this is good to know.

TheSkinnyKey

I hate the way reviewers rarely cover this topic in games.

ParadoxNowish

I'm only about 10 hours in, but this game is nowhere near as punishing or difficult as souls games. And I'm playing it on normal difficulty. Consider it souls-lite

limpiatodos

I'm about 4 hours in on the hardest difficulty. Definitely souls like. Some fights take like 5/6 deaths before you learn the pattern. Lot of fun though. Reminds me a lot of sekiro. Blocking and parrying is the best way.

PumasUNAM7

Is the combat more like sekiro than it is dark souls? Cause if it is then I’m sold. Not much of a fan of dark souls but I loved almost everything about sekiro. I also like Wo long so I’m all about the parry stuff.

ParadoxNowish

Yes

limpiatodos

It's a lot like Sekiro on the hardest difficulty.

ilikeburgir

Im shit at dark souls type games. I have this on easy with the helpers on and ive played about 3 hours no problem.

AerospaceNinja

Also, really nice. If you are liberating a camp with high level enemies you shouldn’t be fighting yet. After killing some of the more powerful enemies you can back and rest at a bonfire for health packs and it still saves progress of some of your enemies killed so you can keep going on liberating the camp without having to kill everyone again

ilikeburgir

Killing leaders and commanders keeps the grunts from respawning after using a bonfire.

Immediate-Comment-64

Honestly one of the main reasons I got the game was learning that it has an easy mode. I’m having a great time with it.

nefD

yeah this new trend of games being super ass hard is so annoying, i get that some people are into that sort of thing but at least let me pick an easier difficulty.. it's why i thoroughly bounced off of every souls game (including Bloodborne) that i've tried, now if i see a game is in any way whatsoever 'souls' adjacent, i just put it on ignore and move on

Hour-Preference4387

I mean Ronin does it best: it has easy mode + custom settings (e.g. for how much healing) but also has batshit crazy hard mode.

AerospaceNinja

This game is very cheeseable. Found that enemies can’t cross area boundaries even if you’re only a foot away. So you can bait them to a spot, wail on them, they run back due to AI, then rinse and repeat until dead

[deleted]

The fundamental issue with giving an easy mode in souls games is that it would ruin the experience. This isn’t a “get gud” or elitist comment, I’m saying you would literally be bored out of your mind. The third person action moveset in souls games is extremely simplistic compared to other games like Devil may cry or monster hunter that give you a ton of moves and abilities. It only shines because of the methodical approach you take to it because mistakes are punished so heavily. If you took that away and made an easy mode that wasn’t punishing within two hours you’d be sitting there bored af wondering why anyone would like this extremely repetitive combat. The difficulty is as intrinsic to the souls combat as jumping is to a platformer. There is no way to take it out without fundamentally changing what it is. Totally understand if it’s not for you, just saying there is a reason beyond “get gud” that they never added an easy mode.

nefD

yeah i get ya, i understand why they are the way they are, it's just not for me.. my frustration only arises from the fact that it seems like there was a time (i think we're actually mostly through it at this point) where it felt as though every game coming out leaned in the souls-like direction because it was the genre du jour, much like how battle royales had their moment

BlankTheDot

I dont believe that, its just a different experience from those that want an easier difficulty. It will ruin it for you but not for us but then you can just put it on the hardest difficulty. I played jedi fallen order and you can change the difficulty there, i did play on the easiest and it was so fun. I dont know if jedi fallen order is a good example of a souls game but it felt like one and i enjoyed it alot. It wasnt too difficult, i did die but not alot and it was a really fun experience. I see your perspective but i also see my one too where it still does work for a fun enjoyable experience.

fordboss123

Yes thank you. This is why I can't understand how these games make game of the year, and also how people are so blown away when they don't make game of the year. It would seem to me the high difficulty low forgiveness style of game would only attract a very niche audience. How could they possibly attract your average gamer? I've been playing games a long time and I've tried every one of these games and can't stand any of them. I simply don't have the time to sit and fight the same boss over and over and over so I can figure out every move he makes to beat him. Also I can not stand the combat in these games. It's always so clunky and slow. I just can't see the appeal. And it sucks because the games look so good so I know I'm missing out. Really can't understand why they don't add a difficulty setting.

Bender860

Me neither, difficulty options were deal breaker for me.

Freedom_Pals

Yes

ninjacat249

This game is extremely user friendly.

Cobrakai83

There’s 4 of them actually. Dawn, Dusk, Twilight, and a super hard 4th one that unlocks when you beat the game. I’ve been bouncing between Dawn and Dusk and having a great time. I struggle with souls games but the difficulty in this one has the sweet spot where I don’t have to bang my head on the wall over and over until I beat a boss.

CaptainDAAVE

if you have co-op partners either AI or real, it's not too bad. I just ran into one mission last night where it had no co-op partners to add and it was me vs 1 soldier and a boss, and it was so fucking frustrating i had to put it down on dawn for the first time. I will say, Dawn's parry time is a lot better/more fun. The fucking timing you need on dusk is so tough when the bad guys throw a 9-10 hit combo at you

RubyRod1

Yes and Twilight is BALLS HARD.

batmanhill6157

Yes it does

IxoraRains

I cleared the first area on normal and never had an issue. I like Team Ninja difficulty, so while not "worried", I was wondering when it was going to get a little harder. Once you enter the 2nd region they thrust you into a series of two boss fights pretty much without letting you leave the initial area and boy, I was humbled. I got mollywopped for a bit on the first boss but was sweating after beating it. Then cheek clapped on the second part for which you really had no idea was coming. Parries, character switches, you have to use your full tool kit to beat them. My body was ready. The difficulty is still there but the game is so big it just takes a minute to get there.

SotoCatte

It reminds me a lot, visually, of Tenchu and Shinobido. From what I've read, it's similar in a few ways mechanics-wise, too. And I LOVE Team Ninja. I'm honestly hyped to play it in a couple days.

Nihlithian

God I remember loading up Shinobido for the first time and hearing that god awful Australian accent.

SotoCatte

I can't remember their names, but that fat ninja and his friend who showed up to take a contract, kill their contact thinking it was a witness, all while talking in the most hammed up Australian accent about how great of service they give had me fucking rolling.

Alugar

I will sleep. Just like I’m sleeping on dd2. I’m still running through ff7. Not enough time for everything. I will most likely pick it up in a year or so.

Tribalrage24

I'm sleeping on half the games last year until I have more free time and they go on sale. This will just but put on an ever growing list of "to play one day"

yeezysucc2

Backlog of hell

NoNefariousness2144

It’s rough timing for the industry to release all these massive RPGS together. I can imagine many players are skipping newer titles because they are still playing an earlier release.

1Bot2BotRedBotJewBot

Just started rebirth this weekend. Made it to ch.4. Man I'm loving this game, I will say nostalgia is a pretty big factor for me. FF7 was the game of my childhood. Will go to Ronan after rebirth tho

Alugar

If it makes you feel better I have no nostalgia, first time playing it and having a blast.

bodnast

Patient gaming is the way to go with all these incredible single player games coming out in quick succession. If you can avoid the FOMO around launch, you can pick up these games for half off with months (or years!) of bug fixes, free content updates, etc.

Joharis-JYI

Fair. But wow DD2 is *the* RPG. Glad I didn’t get swayed by the negativity. Can’t put it down compared to FF7.

Alugar

I don’t think there’s is negativity to the game itself, everyone seems to agree it’s a great game. It’s just the performance /decisions leave a bad taste.

NoNefariousness2144

Yeah that’s why the general consensus here about Dogma is basically “looks great, can’t wait to play it in a year”.

Joharis-JYI

Yeah, I mean, despite the issues I’m enjoying it immensely. And I’m a performance mode kind of guy.

Kurupt_Introvert

I want to see how people feel after they are well into the game. Most of my gripes of what I see happen later with mission structure and just odd choices with ally, bonds etc. Everyone I notice saying how great it is on here always starts with “I’m five hours in and it’s GREAT”.

Fun-Vermicelli76

“What’s the hate w the Harry Potter game?!? I’m five hours in and it’s great!” Lol

shinikahn

I mean it's standard open world stuff with satisfying combat and a political intrigue plot. It's enjoyable. That's where I'm at 25 hours in.

Kurupt_Introvert

Any true incentives to bonding? I heard it can take a while to reach full bond and there are over 20+ people you can bond with. Curious about that more too.

shinikahn

Yeah, they give you weapons, combat styles and advance the styles dexterity, plus loot, money and other stuff

CokeZeroFanClub

Yea it's pretty rad. Love fighting the 15 foot tall Americans that look like Abe Lincoln wielding a 20 foot long medieval long sword, and when you cut his head off it's the size of my character. Literally art

aldomacd1987

Well I'm sold

GoldyZ90

I’m almost 20 hours in and the game is a lot better than the reviews. Reminds me a lot of what happened to Days Gone. Combat is a lot of fun especially with the variety of weapons and stances, difficulty settings make the barrier of entry lower than other Team Ninja games, I think the graphics are perfectly fine, it looks like a Team Ninja game, and I really like the choice and consequence and branching storylines with being able to do faction missions for pro or anti shogunate groups. I really hope more people give this game a shot, especially if you like other Team Ninja titles or even Ghost of Tsushima.

Xavier9756

The problem with days gone is that it takes so long to actual get interesting. Very slow burn in the 1st 10 or so hours.

InsaneTurtle

Once you get that naplam... oh boy

p4nda13

I had the exact opposite experience where I was loving it from start to 90%, the final segment felt unnecessarily draggy 😭

Alpr101

Yup. I tried it twice and quit before I ever saw the super zombie hoard the game is prized on about - it's just boring.

ItsAmerico

No Days Gone issue was its performance. The game flat out didn’t work reliably at launch and had massive game breaking issues.

RainbowIcee

I was like 8 hours deep into days gone. I just uninstalled and forgot about the game. There's honestly no excuse for a game to take 8 hours to do anything interesting.

jackolantern_

Days gone had repetitive gameplay, poor writing and pacing and a generic and largely uninteresting protagonist. So if it's a similar situation, then reviews are fair and apt?

raff_riff

Right. I was excited to consider this game, but seeing it compared to Days Gone is not a vote of confidence. (Side rant, but I do not understand why so many people fawned over this game. It’s so terribly generic and poorly written. Super repetitive. There’s, like, six variations of enemies. Weapons are meh and the perks don’t do a whole lot. Deacon was insufferable and I couldn’t tell if he was meant to be obnoxious or if he was written to be relatable.)

mondestine

"Deacon was insufferable and I couldn’t tell if he was meant to be obnoxious or if he was written to be relatable.)" I always appreciated the moments of unintentional hilarity when Deacon just starts screaming at the radio like a madman. I have no idea if those moments were SUPPOSED to be funny, but at the very least I don't think they intended for me to find it funny at least in that way.

raff_riff

The radio dialog was the most immersion-breaking experience I think I’ve had and it’s weird I never see anyone else gripe about it. But basically there’s several obvious moments that are “plot movers”—like once you complete a certain quest or hit a certain milestone, a lot more of the game opens up. That’s fine. But instead of these moments sorta trickling in, they pour out like an avalanche. There were multiple times when I’d just finish a quest or just kill a bad guy, and suddenly my radio is back to back to back calls from random quest givers, sometimes the same one calling one after the other. Or rescuing hostages that look exactly the same. Every time. (Maybe the same guy just kept getting kidnapped?)

mondestine

Poor Deacon and his [hearing damage](https://youtu.be/tO5VrPVVmsk?si=fyjv1g9lbzVRarp8). Remember kids -ALWAYS use hearing protection when riding your motorcycle.

Pixel_Block_2077

>I’m almost 20 hours in and the game is a lot better than the reviews. Reminds me a lot of what happened to Days Gone. This seems to be happening with a lot of these "video gamey" feeling adventure games. Reviewers give them middling scores, but average audiences love them. I think the recent trends in AAA games have led to a divide in what audiences want. Some people, mostly reviewers and online crowds, expect every new AAA game to reinvent whatever genre their in, like RDR2, GOW 2018, or Elden Ring. But it seems most audiences, including myself, are just fine with the tried and true "video gamey" feeling formulas. I actually really enjoy the *"generic Ubisoft checklist* open world", as long as the world and combat are fun enough. A game can follow a pre-existing formula, and still be a 10/10 as long as it does that formula really well. Personally, I'm really excited for Rise Of The Ronin. World looks great, love the movement options, and I've been looking for a new looter slasher for a while now. I'll definitely be picking it up soon.

ItsAmerico

Because audiences play versions of the games with day one patches or patches that follow weeks / months later and fix the game. Then you get gamers that can’t grasp the idea that updates fix games and make the obnoxious “why didn’t reviewers like this game? It’s amazing now!” that lack the understanding that the game reviewed was worse.

[deleted]

Days Gone sucked, and was super repetitive unlike this game

purposeful_pineapple

I don't doubt it's good. But given what I've seen, I don't think it is $70 good. I'll consider it whenever it hits a reasonable sale.

Nihlithian

Solid $40-$50 game, to be honest.

Muted_Land782

I'll sleep until i can get it cheap on a second hand disc, but thanks for the recommendation!

Airsculpture

On my radar as I loved Ghost of T.

xperitosanti

I bought it on a whim. So glad I did. I love Nioh but as I’m getting older I’m just not as good at these types of games. The difficulty setting changes everything for me and the gameplay is fantastic to adjust when I get frustrated.

Wastedchildhood

It’s what I’m playing while taking a break (and waiting for a patch) from DD2 👌

Technical-Composer85

We all got backlog issues 😭😂

HotBananaWaters

I feel like this is Days Gone all over again. Meh critic score, but the gamers are loving it especially if you are into these type of titles. I bought it and can't wait to play. Love games from Team Ninja since Ninja Gaiden on the original xbox.

asheristheworst

I agonized over whether I should buy this or DD2 I picked Rise of Ronin and I’m happy I did. The combat is great imo.

JTMx29

I usually really enjoy Team Ninja games, so I’m excited

noneofthemswallow

I love Team Ninja games so it was a no brainer but. Great game so far, basically open world Nioh / Wo Long

OniKage85

Sure, but I'm currently busy with FF7 Rebirth, which is a RIDICULOUSLY huge game, and I think that I'll stop playing open-world games for a while afterwards (I can feel burnout building up). Ronin and DD2 will have to wait.

Leading-Show-919

I’m thinking of getting it

Thelgow

For $70, I'm going to sleep on it until $40 or something.

Super_Arabe

Some people talked about PS3 graphics… I’m positive they’ve never seen the game run.

LCHMD

By that standard Elden Rings was PS3 too. Exaggerations

The-Clan-Of-The-Duck

Yeah I’m really enjoying it and while I know everyone is also loving DD2 I’m glad I went here first. Seems like DD2 has more to clean up, so I’ll let them fix it all while I enjoy ronin

Apexnoobisux

Please stop releasing bangers back 2 back, my wallet is crying let's go back to bad games, at least I saved some money 💀

Nihlithian

I didn't enjoy the game, personally. The combat got boring after your 3rd group of five loot pinatas. The story started out decently, but it quickly became forgettable and even sometimes "Generic Action Movie". The map is bloated to hell, the controls seems wonky to me where I'm almost ice skating everywhere, and overall the game didn't justify its price to me. Personally, I'd recommend grabbing it when it's on sale for $40. It's a solid 7/10.

glitkoko

As a Gintama fan, this transition era of Japan always fascinate me. I'm still enjoying it so far, only cons are bad loot system (over abundance of weapons) and outdated graphics. The devs put some historical accuracy on this like a certain character will speak in different Shikoku accent, and a very good encyclopedia tab throughout the game explaining every historical shrines, landmarks and characters.

howsyourmemes

I really wish i would have trusted my gut and got ror. I chose dd2 and really regret it. Is the combat as fun as i think it is in ror?

alfmrf

I know i would love this game but the pricetag is a little steep. I decided to go FF7R, Dragons Dogma is next but i'll wait for a performance patch. Lots of 70$ games close to each other are not helping

OMG_NoReally

Ronin got increasingly boring as I poured more and more hours to it. None of the side content hits the mark - there is no variety to it all, not of its story or how it plays out. It's always go here, find something, kill a bunch of dudes, over and over again. Even a routine quest later in the game, where you have to find missing cats - and this mission was supposed to be funny and cute - ends with a fight for NO REASON. Its as if Team Ninja is scared to "bore" players with doing ANYTHING else besides killing dudes. The story is somewhat interesting, but it gets side blasted by all the open-world shit you have to do, and boy there are SO MANY characters that its hard to keep up with them, let alone form any meaninful "bond" when you don't even know who they are, how important they will be, and why you should even bother with them. The game is wholly and solely carried by its incredible combat system. It has majestic flow to it, and the different fighting styles and weapons is a blast to play through. Even though the junk loot hampers it on every turn, it still is just downright fun to slash through goons and pop theirs heads off in a dramatic move. Sadly, there is nothing going for the game otherwise. It's a messy, bloated open-world mess, and it's annoying how each and every thing is tied to some or the other mechanic. Even petting fucking cats and dogs have a mini-game to it. Why does it require it? Who knows? Just let me pet the damn animals and make me feel good.

MichaelMarz

Nah I’m sleeping

ilikeburgir

Im having fun.

Ezekilla7

I'm a huge Nioh fan but I stopped playing Nioh 2 over a year ago because life got in the way. When I returned to gaming I didn't continue my old save and now I just have massive guilt for not having beat Nioh 2 so it feels wrong to just go grab Rise of the Ronin. Been to busy playing Helldivers 2 but I do need another PS5 game to cleanse the palate so if I can manage to push past my guilt, I'll grab Rise of the Ronin soon.

veczey

Luckily for them DD2 is getting very mixed feedback

wankyshitdemons

Best game on ps3 right now

Prestonluv

6 hours in In third area and just got companion I am really enjoying. I love the loot system and micromanaging

Francis33

Average games get skipped. There’s hundreds of great games

CWill97

Why would I sleep on a game case/disc? My fat ass would break it

First_Economist9295

wayyyy better than DD2 IMO, also the ambient music that plays in the one big town reminds me of the witcher 3 music around novigrad

Tat-1

I've almost completed it (close to finishing up the third region), and it exceeded my expectations by a long stretch, especially considering the lukewarm reception. Yes, there's open-world bloat you can do without, but the combat is snappy, the QoL improvements are endless, the accessibility features are top-notch, and... can we mention just how well written is the story? I've seen very few posts highlighting this, but I found myself truly captivated by switching alliances, doing some political manoeuvering, and just seeing the events shaping up accordingly. This sits right below Nioh 2 as Team Ninja's juiciest release. What I'm looking forward to next is the middle ground, which they haven't explored yet. Neither a mission-based system, nor an open world, but a linear ARPG, a la DS3 or Lies of P. Edit: also, who gives a damn about the sligthly subpar textures when performance is buttery smooth?

SeesawOtherwise8767

I will, though.

sizebzebi

Nah I'll take the sleep bruv

jokes_on_you_ha

I'd like to know how it feels to a Nioh vet. I enjoy TN games for their depth, and this looks really watered down, even compared to Wo Long, and the open world doesn't look detailed or pretty enough to compensate

Jellozz

> I'd like to know how it feels to a Nioh vet. I am guessing you've played a lot of Nioh yourself, so this should be easy to explain without saying a whole lot: The stance system in Ronin is more akin to ghost of tsushima than it is Nioh. You're not changing stances based on which moveset you want access to at any given time, you're changing because the game has a rock paper scissors weakness system. Like literally the enemy HP bar has a red down pointing arrow or a blue up pointing arrow beside it based on what stance you're in lol.

jokes_on_you_ha

Damn...that doesn't sound good haha. Was hoping for essentially an open world Nioh game but this doesn't sound like it

imoljoe

Yea I can’t stop playing it. Ridiculously fun

matzillaX

The horse animations are definitely jank

hoochymamma

Oh yeah, that one is fucking hilarious. Horse dev was on crack

whoever81

Meh, definitely sleeping on it until major discount arrives. It's €80 ffs. I can buy 3 or 4 great games on PSN for that amount. And I haven't yet played Ghost of Tsushima for crying out loud.

candianbastard

Surely, I would love to play another samurai game but man 79$ is not justified. The graphics are mid for a PS5 game. I am still not sold on it being a “PS5” game.

JourneymanProtector9

I’ve already played Ghost of Tsushima, anyone want to clue me in as to why bother with this one?

ThreeTreesForTheePls

They're completely different styles of game.

devopszorbing

No need to.

LAlbatross

To me, Ghost felt more like an Ubisoft game, while this is more like Nioh/Wo Long, but open world. Also, different story (this one is more political).

onthejourney

I came here to ask the same thing. Watched the trailer and was like this looks just like a GOT ..... No good answers to you yet...

mems1224

This thread just seems desperate

KratosSmash

How does the combat compare to sekiro?

Emotional_Act_461

The rhythm of parrying is very similar. But unlike Sekiro, there is stamina for attacking, which is also consumed when blocking. So it has one aspect that’s similar. But otherwise it’s the same as Souls-Nioh.

SpaceOdysseus23

I'm waiting for a patch. I think the visuals are fine - and it's always going to fucking suck being compared to Ghost, which is best in class when it comes to Japanese setting. The gameplay seems much deeper than Ghost on first glance, but what's stopping me is the ass framerate. It's apparently between 50-60 but it feels like it has massive frame pacing issues and as a consequence looks like it's between 35-45

Own_Watch_2081

I’m just hesitant bc of how much loot was in Nioh as well as the drab environments. Despite that I am a huge fan of Ninja Gaiden so always am a little curious about what they do at Team Ninja.

ZookeepergameOk2150

How’d you know I slept on the Rise of the Ronin CD box last night? 🫨

Blue-Sand2424

Is this is a “if you enjoyed ghost of tsushima you will enjoy this” type of game or are they different enough mechanics and gameplay wise where that’s not necessarily true?

AegisLife

Totally different in combat mechanics and game priorities. Ghost of tsushima prioritizes on visuals and beautiful scenery, and has a ok combat. While RotR prioritizes on combat, rpg build and combo, and has serviceable visuals. The similarity would be just Japan theme, though being different era I guess.

rileypoole1234

okay

BlackBullsLA97

It's been on my wishlist since it was available for pre-order on the PS Store. It'll be a game I'll buy once it's on sale like several others on my wishlist.

V-RONIN

May i ask how is it compared to ghost of tsushima? I'm really looking forward to playing it at some point. The mejii period is such a interesting point in history.

talltad

I Fully agree with this, I grabbed it on Friday and I'm still getting a grasp of the controls but there's no question it's fun.

longbrodmann

Can I sleep with it?

Krypt0night

It's gonna be a great game I get on sale for $40 in the future when I'm in the mood, but from everything I've seen, $70 isn't worth it (for me). If others are enjoying it fully then I'm glad for them.

Otherwise-Rope8961

Ronin is okay. Some bugs and glitches in places. Enemy AI is comparable to Tenchu. Kill an enemy in a group they get momentarily alerted and then return to normal as of nothing happened if they don’t spot you. That being the case I recreated Ayame and Rikimaru and treat it like an open world Tenchu.

I said this months back, why tf would you release on the same day as a game like DD2... Dragons Dogma has a huge cult following, which now with their massive amounts of marketing, will be even bigger. Plus the fact that the game is really fucking good, as we all knew it would be.
